I’m not into summer romance books but I decided to read Beach Read and I feel I wasted my money. The reading is smooth and Emily’s writing is not bad but it’s decent. Girl, how you do 24 hours reading? You’re really admiring for that!

Your opening thoughts on “Seven Days in June” were spot on. I would love to recommend “The Mixtape” by Brittainy Cherry and anything by Kennedy Ryan. I have found that I enjoy intentionally including black authors,especially literary fiction or romance authors, in my rotation for the exact reasons you stated. I specify the genre because I rock with N.K. Jemison and her fantasy books on the regular 😂. Also, the spice is a little spicer imo in romance novels written by POC. 😅🤭

Beach Read has so much hype and when I read it last year I was very underwhelmed and kinda had to push myself to finish it. Im undecided if I’m gonna read Emily Henry’s newest release

I gave beach read four stars but it was exactly what I was in the mood for at the time that I read it which I know plays a huge part in how much I enjoy books and what I’m able to rate them. Next time you read a Emily he try book, don’t binge it or read it when tired or doing a 24 hour read cause you definitely cheating yourself out a fair experience. Her books take more brain power and read like women’s literacy fiction so yeah I would take my Time with them.

I felt the same about beach read. I didn't understand the hype around it. However, I decided to give her other books try and I loved them so much! Happy place is my favourite. I hope you give Emily Henry books another chance because they're much better than beach read.

Ohhh the first book - I totally have to add this to my tbr! Plus, I was SO hoping for you to read Every Summer After cause this was one of my romance faves this year! And I feel the same way about Beach Read as you do. It is a good story but not as deep and meaningful as I hoped it would be (I prefer Happy Place by Emily Henry)

No shame I had the same situation with Emily Henry cause the first book of hers I read was people we met on vacation which was a 4/5 star read but book lovers and beach read didn’t hit as much, they were just… okay not bad but not good

I thought i was the only one. I was having a hard time connecting with emily henry's characters. Out of all of her books, i only connected to the characters from happy place. Maybe you should try that out

I think I talked about it in my April review but I felt the same way. She’s a great writer but the story was a bit boring and the characters were so unlikeable to me 😭
I also felt the same way about Beach Read. I just could not connect with the characters and the storyline. So..I decided Emily Henry is just not for me. And that's okay!
