One thing I've learned watching literally millions of tutorials is that most of them are using tricks like baking that was introduced for drag, because the makeup is supposed to be exaggerated, heavy for lack of a better word, not meant to be practical, everyday for natural light. Baking for me is a nightmare and I have to be mindful these videos are usually done with brighter beauty lighting, which looks amazing on the screen, in the photo but girl, natural sunlight exposes it like a caked up mess! At least this is my experience, actually makes me look so much older, ew! Glad I found you and I'm hooked!!
You are totally right. You should never stop learning in your chosen profession. There’s always room for growth if you are open to it. This was great information. Thanks for sharing these tips.
I still need tutorials! These videos are great to watch while on a no-buy. So, thank you for this video, from one lady with hooded eyes & oily skin to another. Cheers! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
You are fabulous. I am a semi retired makeup artist & I agree with you about using the powder puff to roll the powder into the complexion. This is a great tip. I too use an eyeliner to create a crease on my hooded eyes. Thank you so much for these great tips. I really enjoy your videos. Cheers 😉 🌷
These tip/hack videos of yours are my favorite. And I love your willingness to give credit to others. The paint pot AND pencil sketching tips - WOW! Will use these tricks in Vegas this weekend!
OUTSTANDING, RISA. So good of you to share these tips and tricks. I had seen the Nikkia Joy video a long time ago and Wayne Goss did the powder puff technique way back when but the others are new to me and I can't wait to use them. I LOVE tutorials and I hope you never stop doing them. You have helped me immensely over the year or more that I've been watching you and I always learn something about a product or a technique. I have normal skin so when you advise about skin types with products it is very helpful to me. Plus I'm old (74) and wearing makeup at my age is always tricky because I want to look good but not overly made up. Less is more. Thanks for all your hard work and obvious caring about us, your fans. You're the best.
Hi Risa, you are one of the most generous and humble makeup artist and human being I've ever met, you're willing not only to share your knowledge with us, but also appreciating and recognizing the other colleagues tips on youtube, you´re so sweet. Loves 😘
Thank you so much Maria! Your comment means a lot to me. I am so appreciative of everyone who shares their talents and knowledge with us here on UA-cam. I don’t know how we lived without it!!!
I have learned so much from you and appreciate you sharing your make up knowledge with us all! One tip I have for you is I always dip a large blending eyeshadow brush in my loose face powder and do a final blend over my eyeshadow with that! It really helps my shadows look seamless!
I love Nikia Joy, I am an oily skin girl. I also love my powderpuff! Yes I am more mature, always used my puff for blending, softening and powder applications. believe it or not, the larger puffs are so hard to find. When I do, I stock up. Love your tips Risa!
Tried the powder puff method mentioned, even works great with powder foundation! My skin felt so natural and didn’t feel like I had to be careful so I don’t smudge my makeup! 😸
UA-cam “get ready with me” videos are my favorites! And I have learned so much from people like you. Especially you! Your videos are full of tips and I love watching your technique because you are a makeup artist and you never steered me wrong yet! Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to share your expertise with all of us.🙏❤️😉
Thanks Risa for these tips. I love makeup tutorials. It's the #1 reason I watch videos. As you said, you can never feel you know it all. I'm 61 and have worn makeup for s long time and still love learning new techniques. I like the eyepencil as shadow tip. I'm wondering how it will work on my mature eyes. I'll have to give it a go. Wayne Goss has a great video on how to keep foundation on your nose with eye primer and powder. It works great. Keep the tutorials coming Risa, I can't get enough from ppl I trust like yourself. Some Influencers do nothing but gab. It's ok when they're trying to say something important but I'm really here for the tutorials, recommendations, GRWMs, etc. If I want talk I'll watch a vlog.
Yes! I learned the powder puff tip not too long ago. I use it with the Maybelline Fitme loose and some puffs I bought off Amazon. I could never use powder with a brush. It just sat on top. Now it blurs pores and looks so soft.
I watch UA-cam for the tutorials. I get overwhelmed by all the new makeup products. I love learning new makeup tips. Please keep them coming on your channel 🤗💕 Thank you!
I’m a new subscriber and as soon as I saw this video, I clicked on it. I taught myself how to do my makeup while I was in high school. (Currently I’m 47 and recovering from total knee replacement) And back then (and going forward) I always got and get compliments on my makeup. Since I discovered UA-cam a few years ago I enjoy watching makeup tutorials and still do. Until I started watching those videos, the only makeup brushes I owned were blush brushes. I used the spongey things that came with the eyeshadow to apply it. And I even would swipe extras from Sephora! Anyway, I’ve learned a lot from those videos and still do. Everyone does there makeup a little differently and I enjoy learning different ways. I’m glad I found this video and look forward to seeing more from you 😊
Thank you for the powder applied with puff tip! I have tried several techniques, all of which resulted in powder settling in fine lines. I am excited to try this.
I was terrified of your tip to puff the powder over my 40-something dry skin, but I tried it am now a true believer!! Makeup stayed shine free and didn’t budge all day. Used By Terry hyaluronic powder (great stuff). Thanks for the great tips (as always)! 😃
I just discovered you today, this is my 3rd video I have watched of yours and won’t be the last. You explain so well in your tutorials. The powder puff to roll the powder into your complexion is it a translucent powder or a shade of your skin tone. Thank you I am a subscriber now, you rock.!!
I love tutorials for my specific makeup & skincare needs. I am a 45 year old woman. I’ve spent the last year relearning how to apply makeup after a 7 year hiatus. My skin has changed from normal/combination to dry and textured! Yikes! I also have hooded eyes...and they are heavily hooded. I’ve learned so much from your hooded eye tutorials. I’ve also learned so much from Wayne Goss. I haven’t tried the eyeliner technique mentioned in this video. This was a very informative video. I learned several new things. Thanks!
Great tips. Really excited to try the liner trick on my hooded lids. And the NOSE! I don’t have the Mac pot but I do have a Bobbi Brown pot concealer that might be close enough in texture to work. I’ll try anything to minimize those dastardly pores.
I follow all the makeup artist you mentioned, really enjoy Hindash , he is amazing, I like his techniques and makeup looks a lot. I totally agree with you , no matter how long you have been in the Industry , their is always more to learn , unlimited knowledge from talented people in the Industry. I have learned and applied so many techniques in my makeup routine. i can literally say that what I learned in school was not aall enough , i learned much more watching this talented makeup artists. I had started my you tube makeup videos watching Lisa Eldridge, Robert jones , Bobbi Brown, eve pearl to name a few.
Hi Risa, I opened the Laura Mercier counter in Henri Bendel in NYC. I remember her doing a Smokey eye on Ellen Barkin with just a black eye pencil!! She was awesome!!
I recently purchased Jane Iredale's flocked sponge and tried using it for the pressing powder technique and it works so well. I'm going to try the eyeliner tip here, too. I have been using shadows as liners so often my pencils have been falling off the radar in my routine altogether. Time to break them out again. Thanks for sharing.
Loved this video. I always appreciate tips and hacks on application since I get tend to get set in my routine. This is part of why I love makeup, the creativity and flexibility in application. The paint pot on the nose is eye-opening!
I love your channel, I’m 48 and have never taken care of myself ( no cleaning routine or make up or even getting hair done) since finding your channel I’m trying to change that, I just hope I’m not to old 🥰
I LOVE Hindash...he is exceptional!! He is actually so relaxing to listen and watch...I only watch tutorials that are wearable.....while I appreciate the talents of these very creative individuals...at 60, I just can't pull the looks off! We can ALWAYS learn from others...the day we stop learning ...we are dead! 😉
I loved this ! Especially the tip for the eyeliner/eyeshadow. The paint pot tip I learned from Wayne Goss and Nikkia learned it from him. And it really does work!
I will definitely try that paint pot trick! I freelanced for Laura Mercier back when she launched. I remember Kristofer Buckle worked with her. I love her flawless face method.
Great tips, Risa! I also use my Mac Paint pot around the edges of my lips before foundation. I think this helps my lip liner and lipstick last all day and not bleed into the lines around my mouth.
Just discovered you I am now obsessed I am a very young 60 yr old flight attendant with a 20 yr old daughter she got me into tutorials and now I can actually do my makeup so much better. I have hooded eyes and now lip lines😟 I will be watching you from now on thank you 🙋🏻❤️✈️
I ❤ LOVE ❤ tutorials!!! I hope that UA-cam channels ALWAYS keep them coming!! So don't stop making them Risa, lots of us love them. 😁 Great video, today.
I love the hooded eye technique will have to give it a try👍 for more natural contour look I love to use contour products under my foundation, it makes such a huge difference
I also love tutorials. I’ve stopped watching UA-cam because no one does them anymore. I love watching a good tutorial. I’ve been doing my own makeup since the early ‘70s and I LOVE watching a woman put on her makeup. It’s artistic, like a painter creating a work of art! I wish they’d become popular again.
I watch mostly tutorials mostly. My mom told me this tip but seen it on a Sephora tutorial also. My eyes water a lot. No eyeliner would stay on! Waterproof will not work if putting on watery eyes , but if you use khol eyeliner first the waterproof has something to grip! Works like a charm
That's an awesome tip! I have watery eyes too and while I rarely put anything in my waterline for eye health, sometimes I do a look that really needs it.
GRWMs and tutorials are my favourite type of video. I’ve found my large nose pores have reduced since I started using Pixi glow tonic pre-soaked pads every other night, and I’m less oily now. I’m going to try your tip #4 with the pencil in the crease, eye makeup has become challenging in my late 40’s 😬
I'm a recent subscriber to your channel and LOVE the tip about the eyeliner. I have been trying to do something very similar with cream shadow sticks, but this is even better! I also love tutorials too, thanks for the great content!
Hi Risa!! I love your tutorials. They are so informative. I feel that I have learned so much from you so far. I would love to see you do a tutorial some day on makeup for fair skin & green eyes like mine. I feel like I fail in the area of getting my face to not look so washed out. When you are very fair, you can really overdo face makeup color if you are not careful. Your makeup ALWAYS looks beautiful. ❤ My blush never looks that good. I guess practice makes perfect, right? My friends tell me all the time that I don't even need makeup because I have perfect porcelain skin. Well, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I feel that makeup truly enhances my natural beauty and gives me color. So I don't look sickly. Lol Btw, you never posted below what nail polish color you are wearing. It is really beautiful! Pink is my fav color and I wear a lot of it. That would look so great w/ my own fair skin. Can you also recommend a really great pink lipstick to me? Something good for my fair skin & green eyes? I would appreciate it!! I will continue watching your videos. You are such a genuine person who truly seems to love what you do, and helping women to look their best, lifting some of us up and giving us better self confidence, when it comes to makeup that is. Thanks for listening!! Ooops. I mean reading!! 😊
I just learned one too-looking down into a mirror while applying mascara eliminates the transfer I always used to get when previously applying when looking straight into a mirror. No more need to scrape mascara off my eyeshadow.
TY! I am memorized by watching techniques. Wayne Goss did a tutorial using the pencil for an eye look. Loved it. Ahhh you reminded me I wanted to try that tip from Nikkia. She is cute & fun to watch. Totally agree w/ you on always keeping open to learning. You have a lovely attitude & shirt BTW.
I find that out of all my channels that I am subscribed to, yours is my favorite. I watch your videos I go out and buy a product and so far every time it has really worked for my oily imperfect skin. Thank You!
These are great tips. You said makeup tutorials aren't as popular here and I was surprised. I love them! Learning how to apply is so interesting and you don't always need the exact products to practive them. Instagram shots are fine but I think they can create difficult results for anyone without the knowledge. Please keep turorial alive.
As an Amerasian woman, I cannot wait to “draw” my crease on! Ty! And ty for crediting the MUA’s from which you originally found these tips. Will def check out their channels as well
Samantha Ravendal does shadow mapping as well. I like her way because I don’t have to use a pencil. I just use a pencil brush or lip brush and a darker shadow. But it’s a great idea.
Love the tip with the eye pencil. I watched this while removing today's makeup, so I just went ahead and tried it. I've got one hooded eye and one non-hooded, and I think this is going to help me balance them out. Used an Urban Decay liner and had plenty of blending time.
I love tutorials there actually my favorite ! I also love just watching someone create or recreate a look at grwm all of these still teach me something, Un fact that’s all I guess I watch. What are the popular makeup videos now? Am I missing out on something?? Love these tips and totally remember the Laura mercier powder puff technique thanks for reminding me bc I remember when I applied it that way it was flawless. Now I use a brush occasionally a beauty blender
Great vid! Tutorials are the ONLY type of vid I like of the make up genre. I don't care for reviews or chatty GRWMs, I despise those ”unboxings.” I didn't start wearing makeup at all until my late 30s and I just wanna tips and tricks to make it look correct and good, particularly for real-life situations. Keep the tips coming!
Thank you so much Risa for sharing these fantastic tips with us. You giving credit to the others on YT where you picked up some of these tips, shows what an honest, caring woman you are. I SO Appreciate that and admire you for it ❤ I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week ~ Hugs ~
Risa, I have the "IT" finishing powder i like to use to set my make up...It's super light and not any color. Do you think that would work with the Laura Mercier puff or do i need more of a translucent powder like maybe banana powder? Just making sure i am using the right powder because i love the technique you showed in this video with the puff and making it into a taco shape and pressing onto my face to get it to have staying power. I have a wedding coming up soon and it's outside in Mississippi...You talk about hot and humid.
Wow I just found you. I like your style. How nice and practical. I’m older and horrible at make up.trying so hard to get the basics down. Look forward to learning from you.
Please tell me how you get your under eyes so smooth !! I’m 27 and I have more fine lines then you appear to have. Is it retanol is it filler is it genes ?! Thank you xx
Thank you so much for these great tips risa. Very clearly explained. Love your humility as you highlighted other professionals and how you learned from them.
I had to chuckle when you brought up using a folded powder puff to roll on setting powder. I was taught that technique in a makeup for modeling class in the late 1960’s. We were told to use a swan’s down puff after we’d finished pressing in the powder to gently remove the excess. It was a technique I used throughout my years on the runway and on stage in theatrical productions. In those days, it was difficult to find powder that was finely milled enough to keep it from looking caky. We sure don’t have that problem now.
I have the same issue with foundation disappearing from my nose area. I have the MAC painterly pot for my eyes, never thought to use it on my nose. I will diffidently try this.
Risa, I LOVE these tricks, especially the powder puff one---my puff is so ignored I almost threw it away! Thank heaven I kept it! Also loved the eye pencil tip. Thank you! Eileen
I learned that (hooded) eyeshadow technique accidently myself when I was taking out a eyeliner pencil and I was in a hurry .. so didn't have time to take out eyeshadow and brushes. So, I just used the eyeliner pencil and drew a line on my eyelids as a contour and smudged out a little bit.
I saw a video of make up trends thru the decades of 1900's. One shadow an eyeliner in the crease as the only makeup on the lid. It gave me the brilliant idea of using it as a base for my powder eyeshadow. I have never drawn the little part at the bottom though. I use Stila smudge proof liner and have purple, turquoise, blue, brown black to match most eyeshadows. This method gives me eye makeup that lasts until I take it off. The other tip I found a few years back was using tape to get that sharp crisp line for eyeshadow. Before these two tips my eyeshadow was muddy and undefined. I have done the eye primer on the nose before. I was having trouble with Lancôme foundation just disappearing in hours. But my Stila foundation, beauty balm and Josie Maren matchmaker don't slide off my nose. I will try the rolling powder technique to minimize the Caky line and wrinkle enhancement. Most people think I am much younger but with menopause starting I know the big skin changes are coming.
I hear it so often that tutorials aren't popular ... but I absolutely love them! Thanks for all these great tips!
JackOllie4 I agree with you!! I’m 62 and love watching makeup tutorials and videos I cannot imagine why anyone wouldn’t?🤷♀️
One thing I've learned watching literally millions of tutorials is that most of them are using tricks like baking that was introduced for drag, because the makeup is supposed to be exaggerated, heavy for lack of a better word, not meant to be practical, everyday for natural light. I love watching tutorials too, especially when the person doing them is knowledgeable. Keep doing them, Risa. I learn from you.
Thank you Shelley! This means a lot to me. ❤️
I agree!! I love tutorials!!♡♡
Welp, I've been doing tutorials on my channel not knowing they arent popular. It's fine. No one has EVER accused me of being popular.

I still love tutorials and especially on more mature skin. Love these techniques. Thank you, Risa!

I enjoy watching different techniques to look more natural. You did an excellent job in this video. Thank you!!! Xoxo

These tips were so good! The primer on your nose and flesh tone or brow bone shadow to even out the eye look / crease color - genius!!

I tried using the Mac Paint Pot Soft Ochre on my nose and the large-pored area of my cheeks near my nose. Magical! Thank you so much for sharing!
Great tips. Really excited to try the liner trick on my hooded lids. And the NOSE! I don’t have the Mac pot but I do have a Bobbi Brown pot concealer that might be close enough in texture to work. I’ll try anything to minimize those dastardly pores.

I love Nikia Joy, she was the first makeup UA-camr I discovered, and Hindash is amazing!!!!!
And of course you rock.
I'm with you, Risa, I love tutorials! Appreciate that you continue doing them; they are very helpful!
I love your channel, I’m 48 and have never taken care of myself ( no cleaning routine or make up or even getting hair done) since finding your channel I’m trying to change that, I just hope I’m not to old 🥰
I still love many of Laura Mercier's products. The Smoothing Powder Foundation is my absolute favorite hands down! I repurchase it over and over.
I appreciate you!! Thank you! Just found your tutorials❤ Have a Beautiful Day🌈
I LOVE Hindash...he is exceptional!! I agree 100% Tammy!
Contour with foundation brush-genius. Great video!
LOVE Hindash - his looks are to die for! Thank you Risa, love all these tips
I love to watch people put on makeup! You have some wonderful tips that I use every day!
Thanks to you I bought the Mac paint on my nose and I so-o-o grateful! It not only controls my shine but holds my makeup in place. Thank you!
Hi Risa, I always use the powderpuff method, my mother always did this and it works. I love your tutorials don't ever stop please !!! 😘😘🇬🇧🇺🇸
Great tips, Risa! I also use my Mac Paint pot around the edges of my lips before foundation. I think this helps my lip liner and lipstick last all day and not bleed into the lines around my mouth.
That’s a great tip Sandy! Thank you for sharing it. 😃👍🏻
Such great tips. That last one using a flesh toned eyeshadow to “clear up” was a game changer for me. Thank you, Risa and Happy Mother’s Day.
IIRC, Nikkia Joy had a tip to blend out a patchy or streaky eyeshadow by using a shimmer shade.
Wow, that bronzer tip with a foundation brush was amazing.

Great info, particullary about Laura Mercier- the woman, and the skills, not only the brand! Could listen to you all day long🥰🐾💗👍👍
Thank you so much 😊
@@RisaDoesMakeup thank YOU💗 love from sweden🤗🤗🥰🐾
Brilliant! Thank you! 30 years in the industry and UA-cam has been a game changer for me! You are one of my favorite educators ♥️
Thank you so much Molly!
Thank you risa ❤️ So very helpful of you. The paintpot idea is genius I’ve been doing it for a few years now!
I'm a recent subscriber to your channel and LOVE the tip about the eyeliner. I have been trying to do something very similar with cream shadow sticks, but this is even better! I also love tutorials too, thanks for the great content!
Just found you. So glad I did. Quick and to the point. The tips are great and will be giving them a try. Thanks
Thank You!
Love the emergence of the powder puff !
Absolutely love the second tip with the contour.
As an Amerasian woman, I cannot wait to “draw” my crease on! Ty! And ty for crediting the MUA’s from which you originally found these tips. Will def check out their channels as well
Thank you Risa. You are so beautiful and humble. I agree I think we can always learn more. I thoroughly enjoyed this video . Xoxo
Thank you so much Rebecca 😃
Love this!! The powder and hooded eye techniques are what I’ve been missing. Thanks beautiful!
OMG! THANK YOU! Thank you! Thank you! I have tried EVERYTHING for large pores. Paint pot works!!!! Thank you so much!!
Paint pots work decent for under eye as well. I've used a few to cancel out colour and they don't get cakey
Samantha Ravendal does shadow mapping as well. I like her way because I don’t have to use a pencil. I just use a pencil brush or lip brush and a darker shadow. But it’s a great idea.
Risa, I did the paint pot on the nose and the creamy eye pencil for hooded eyes, the both worked really well. Thanks so much❤️
Love the tip with the eye pencil. I watched this while removing today's makeup, so I just went ahead and tried it. I've got one hooded eye and one non-hooded, and I think this is going to help me balance them out. Used an Urban Decay liner and had plenty of blending time.
Very fun to watch. I just need to know if you rolled the powder on your face before your foundation? Thanks
I don't care for reviews or chatty GRWMs, I despise those ”unboxings.”
I didn't start wearing makeup at all until my late 30s and I just wanna tips and tricks to make it look correct and good, particularly for real-life situations.
Juicy Lucy i agree! Tell us your secret please!
Watching this in 2021...great tips ❤️ loved your video
Thank you so much for these great tips risa. Very clearly explained. Love your humility as you highlighted other professionals and how you learned from them.
I knew some of them, but OMG, using a Paint Pot on my nose is such a great idea! It is where my foundation always goes first.
I agree with you I love tutorials on makeup 💄 tips and I wish more influencers would do those .
Dear Risa, I love your videos. I love your attitude about keeping learning and we never know everything. You are amazing. I love your videos and you
I am a fan of all of these techniques. Esspecially the paint pot on the nose! Def a game changer!
Thank you, Risa, for all of these very informative and extremely helpful tips and tricks! God bless you!
BEAUTIFUL! Thank you! What kind of lashes are you wearing please !! So so pretty! Thank you again!!!
I’m definitely trying the paint pot trick!!
The nose tip was GREAT!!!! Trying that tomorrow for sure !!
