Good advice there, and don't forget expansion gaps around radiator pipes as well, I had a customer where a radiator pipe sheared off because of this, not an easy repair.
Just a thought. . . Wouldn’t it have been easier to use the multi tool to cut out the bottom of the skirting and architrave (remove) so the floor has a new expansion area 🤔. Good effort mate 👍
Looks like the previous installer didn’t understand wood movement. Wood expands most dramatically perpendicular to the grain. The left plenty of gap along the end grain but none on the side grain!
