    Released: 2014

    Genres: Death metal, Alternative metal

Taylor explained the song's meaning to The Pulse of Radio: "'The Devil In I' is really about the war inside yourself," he said. "Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up basically. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest thing you can do, is to give in to that side of

someone probably already explained it, but, the song was made after one of their band members and close friends, Paul Grey, died from drinking while on medication. so the song is about getting past all the anger and guilt and grief they felt during this whole process of losing Paul. In the video they decided to show themselves killing themselves while they wore their old masks, symbolizing how they're moving on from the past and becoming comfortable with the future. It's a very deep song and album and I love how they did everything. I'm more into the gore so I enjoyed the video but I can see how it isnt for everyone, like, I wouldnt show that to my mom haha 😂 but I love your videos guys ! love and support from this guy :)

Shawn needs to start directing horror movies. Maybe with Corey's help because he loves horror. I feel like Shawn's visionary and Corey's desire for seeing something new and different but also loving your old school classics would make something terrifying.

@@mattbononi2018 there was actually multiple medications as well as heroine found scattered around the room that he died in. So it was likely a cocktail of drugs that did it.

It’s also a song about the conflict between the band and Paul’s wife who blamed them for his death saying they were always with him and could have helped him . The devil in I is her referring to him as a devil. He is saying step inside and you will realize I’m not your devil and also freeing himself from his rage and guilt and telling her I’m not your devil anymore . Hope this helps

I subscribed to them because they are two cool people trying to react to new music and I enjoy watching them. No need for that kind of negativity over a word that I lit spelled correctly and my phone changed for me. Blame my phone or millennials but don't bring that negitivity to this channel. No need for it.

Hey guys I want to give you a little run down on slipknot and the meaning of this song. First off maybe not the best first song givin the meaning behind it but I’m glad you guys enjoyed. So they formed in Des Moines Iowa in the mid 90s but didn’t make it until 2000. There are 9 members who have unique masks representing their own personal fears and personalities. In 2008 one of the founding members Paul Grey (Bass) RIP suddenly passed away and the band almost fell completely apart. This song represents how they are making a new start and by killing themselves they are each letting go of the past. They are then reborn with new masks marking a new era for the band because they decided to move on from the past and keep going. Each death in this represents their worst fears. Except the two new members the drummer and bass player since they don’t have a say yet they get stabbed in representation of the fact that they haven’t earned their way yet. Maybe I’m a little rusty on some of this but I believe someone will correct any errors I have made down below. This band uses a lot of metaphors and symbolism to get very deep messages across but spreads awareness to things such as suicide, abuse, anger issues etc. and they say that their anger and passion with each song is an outlet for those who might be experiencing rejection and anguish by society and by rocking out to these songs makes those people a lot more relaxed and calm. Corey Taylor the singer has a second band called stone sour you guys should check out sometime. It’s a bit more mellow and melodic

You have to understand they are utilizing theatrics much like Alice Cooper, but a few shades darker. If you look for interviews from the lead singer Corey Taylor, he is quite intelligent and outspoken. Corey also sings for another group, Stone Sour. You should check them out to see a more melodic version of Corey Taylor.

This is also when their new album and hence new masks were revealed. They were killing off their old selves (dressed in white) and showing their new masks (dresses in black). Each death represented their biggest fear. The two guys in wheelchairs were new members. You don’t see them playing until they’ve been killed off as well. A lot of symbolism. Sid (the DJ) losing his hands or arms would mean death to a DJ.

That's just slipknot wearing their mask as they have done since the start of their career 🤣
They wear them on stage for the whole concert performance, and the masks they are wearing in this video clip are their most recent, whereas each album they have had different masks.
This song though, is probably one of my most favorite.
The video clip is about fighting about inner demons and fears (what scares them the most is what they are acting out, the guy eating his own hands is their dj, the connection is losing his hands and not being able to dj anymore kind of thing)
Shawn Crahan (band member wearing the clown mask) directed this one.

Just wanted to say you two ooze love and happiness. Relationship goal for anyone. Have discovered your channel not so long ago and I've never disliked anything I watched from you so far. Genuine, tolerant, funny.
Now that I've got this out of my chest, I hope you guys continue this and I hope you eventually meet a succesful benchmark on youtube that would allow you both to ease off the crazy hours you're working (as you said in your previous video).
What I would recommend for you to do is a really small background check on either the group and/or the song you're listening to in your reaction video because the best songs in heavy metal or rock are often not so easy to understand because it's got multiple layers and metaphors and whatnot. Show us that, by the end of the reaction, you understand even if a little bit what the song you'd just listened to is all about. That will not keep us from reacting at all I promise :)
I'll regurlarly try to comment a recommendation to keep you guys with content :D.
For now I'd recommend huuuh let's say
Korn - Freak on A Leash
    followed by
Korn - Falling Away from Me
They both have clips and both these songs are supposed to be listened one after another (they're connected)

I like dat! Holy shit, it's just funny cause those syncopated riffs in metal are just stole from black music anyway, not that music is black or white or purple (well, yes, some music is purple, I'm from Minnesota, Prince.). But yeah, this is a great song, but it's essentially a heavy pop song, very well done. They pretty much comment only on the video.

Not sure if anyone’s explained it to you guys in depth but the guys are killing themselves in symbolic ways.
Sid Wilson (0): Ate his own hands and fingers as they are the most important things to him to play his instrument, as he is the band’s DJ.
Chris Fehn (3): Picked apart by birds as he is afraid of and hates them.
Craig Jones (5): killed by attack dog as he is afraid of them.
Shawn Crahan (6): Died as he lived. In the most theatric and insane way possible. Setting yourself on fire and hanging, to capture the madness that is “The Clown”
Mick Thomson (7): Is self isolated and tears off his own face to get rid of that layer of himself.
Corey Taylor (8): Lead singer, and as such carries the stereotype that lead singers have a big ego or “blown up head” So he literally chose to blow up his own head.
Jim Root (4): Not too entirely sure on this one but he did choose full body explosion
Jay Weinberg and Alessandro Venturella: Slipknot kept a consistent lineup of the same 9 men from 1999-2014. These two were new members of the band replacing Joey Jordison (1) and Paul Gray (2). As such they were cornered by the band and stabbed repeatedly as a form of initiation.
