This song/video is so full of symbolism, it's a kick to the senses, especially for people just getting into Slipknot. I'll breakdown the video and song for you. The song itself is about overcoming your past (the devil in i), and accepting it so you can move forward in life. I'll hit the main points below just numbered.
1. Slipknot has new masks for each album.
2. During each death scene, that member of the band wore the mask from the previous album and then was in the new mask for the rest of the video. This is symbolic of them overcoming their inner devils, moving forward.
3. Each specific death is unique to each member as they picked how they died, some being fears, others being symbolic.
4. Sid (the DJ) chose to cannibalize his hands/finders. As a DJ, his hands/fingers are most important to him and losing them would cost him everything.
5. Mick is a big man (like 6'4, 250+). He chose to rip himself apart and make himself invisible. He feels that even at his size, sometimes he can feel unseen and insecure.
6. The 2 guys getting stabbed in the wheel chairs are the 2 new members of the band. You don't see them playing any instruments until they are killed, which is their initiation into the band/family.
7. The 2 red robed/hooded people represent the 2 members that were replaced from the previous album (Joey and Paul).
8. Corey chose to explode his head as most front men get a big head. He wanted to symbolize staying humble and not getting a big head.
9. Craig (pinhead) chose to get killed by his own dog bc he just loves the dog.
10. Chris (dicknose) chose to die by crows as he has a fear of birds and couldn't think of a more terrifying way to die.
11. Jim (phantom) chose to explode his entire body as he thought that would be the worst way to die.
12. Shawn (clown) chose to burn and hang himself bc at the end, life is a mess, let everyone else clean it up.
13. Last nugget are all of the people in straight jackets writhing around and headbanging. These represent the Slipknot fans. Slipknot refers to their fans as maggots. When the crowd is moving/jumping/writhing, it looks like a cluster of maggots. Them being symbolized by the straight jackets is a tribute to their fans.
The video is a lot to take in, but if you read the symbolism for the way it's meant, it's quite a complex video and song. Re-watch it again keeping these things in mind and you will get more out of the video and find a new respect for them as artists. Hope you enjoy the Slipknot adventure.

It isn't ABOUT their phobias, the phobias inspired the "killing of themselves" in the video.
The song is about Paul Gray....and mourning him, remembering him, and being really angry at how his life ended
Song Meaning:
Corey Taylor explained the song's meaning to The Pulse of Radio: "'The Devil In I' is really about the war inside yourself," he said. "Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up basically. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest things you can do, is to give into that side of yourself." And that you can have fun. Crahan also explained at the song was about "finding past devils, past things, becoming one with it, and doing away with it.

As far as I know, Craig Jones is not even afraid of dogs. He has dogs. But he was afraid of "betrayal" so as a metaphor it was his own dog attacking him.
There is so much symbolism in this video and lyrics that are for the hardcore dedicated fans of Slipknot that have been with them from the beginning. Each death is symbolic due to it being each ones phobia but also they are shedding their past and starting anew. The masks they wear during the death scenes are from the previous album and in the cut scenes of them playing you’ll notice the new masks. Each album they have a mask reveal video. Also the two
New members were stabbed in this symbolizing their initiation into the band. The song itself is about being betrayed by those you love and it turning your soul a little darker each time. Hope that helps a little

All symbolism as the band transitioned from its previous lineup with the sadly departed Paul Gray who died, and Joey Jordisson who left/was fired depending on who you believe as he had a medical condition stopping him from drumming
The new members (Jay and Allesandro) get stabbed to 'welcome' them
The rest of the band used their fears visually in the vid to kill their old personas/masks and change to the new ones.
Its a gruesome but fantastic video!
I watch a lot of reaction videos, and you guys are great. The one thing I NEVER see, that I would LOVE to see, is a reactor(s) doing a follow up video after having heard the song another time or two and after reading the fan comments which might have answered some of your questions.

Great reaction ! Video always shock the first time xD, i think it's a song about their nightmares like the crows an the dog. Another great song you can react to from this album is Killpop which is basically about the music industry.

This whole album is called The Gray Chapter in ode to Paul Gray. This song slaps and, although graphic, the video definitely paints a picture of how the members cope with the loss and progress forward. Keep rocking on. I feel that Callum will appreciate the lyrics without the video hahaha.

The big guy u seen tearing his face and mask apart was the brother of the founding members
The other point not mentioned much below is the masks they are wearing when they are being killed are the old masks from the previous tour/album, whilst they are singing in their new ones.
The 2 in wheelchairs are the 2 new members joining the band, replacing the drummer and other new percussionist...thats why the band surround them and stab them, as a form of 'jumping in' to the band.
If you look at it as just a violent video, its pretty unnecessary in 8ts violence, but when you get the meanings behind everything, 8ncluding the song and its lyrics, the it all makes sense and you realise that everything is there for a reason.

I think it’s not your type of videos. I can watch gore videos but when i saw blood on my wrist from an accidental cut from a a broken glass, i felt nauseous. A small dog bite on my cousin made me feel nauseous as well.
