MECCANO self erecting crane

This model automatically replicates the process that allows a tower crane to rise to the desired height. Each additional mast section is lifted by the crane itself and added to a climbing frame after the main mast has been lifted by hydraulic cylinders, then this section is bolted to the previous part to secure the assembly.
All operations are controlled by a microprocessor, 7 DC motors, a hydraulic water pump and 4 electromagnets.
The model is made with "MECCANO" parts and a very rare and obsolete"HYDRO ACTION" box which was compatible at the time with meccano.

This is brilliant. I didn't even know an hydraulic pack existed for Meccano. That opens up possibilities.
I couldn't properly make out how the locking mechanism worked - what is involved, and how secure is it?
