22:00 Music?
I'm impatiently awaiting the Foo Fighters episode.
YES.
The favorite band of every urban lumberjack-looking, craft brewery hipster. You know the ones...
It’s been more than 2 weeks, TYLER.
If craft beer was a band.
Love all the comments from people that are clearly in their 20s and are trying to be cool with comments like this
@@TheHSIHP I’m 43
I’m also a Wilco fan with a sense of humor
Yup, they’re the IPA of pretentious yuppie breweries
Whew you guys are back. Was running low on disgust and bile.
Been a long time since you guys have done a band I actually like. This will be fun!
That time Foxygen opened for Wilco but didn’t know who they were.
This channel is awesome. Helps to differentiate between ones affinity vs ones value judgment.
I dare you to do an episode on The Dead Kennedys.
Jeff Wilco gets me every time 😂
more of a fan of Jay Tupelo myself
Big fan of everything up through The Whole Love (after which the songwriting fell off a cliff), but it’s always good spiritual discipline to listen to YFBS eps about bands I like
Wilco: the band that single handedly raised the price of PBR from 75 cents at my local bar to five bucks. Thanks dicks.
they don’t even drink
Also wtf drinks PBR
Hipsters have been drinking Coors for like the last10-15 years anyways , old man
I like it better when y’all do good bands but this should be fun anyway
burn
When have they ever done an episode on a good band?
wait, yeah, what he said
@@YourFavoriteBandSucksPodcast Still waiting for Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, and Merle Haggard. And then of course the Velvet Underground, Television, The Fall, The Jam, Pavement... so many terrible artists left to cover
@@JimBobMcGillicuddyZappa, Gang of Four, Wire, Coil, Swans (especially late-period Swans), Labradford, Low, Neurosis, Loop, Townes Van Zandt, Hella, Deerhoof, Quasi, Ruins, Fela Kuti, Magma, Rudimentary Peni, Jaga Jazzist, Miles Davis, Augustus Pablo, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Brainiac, Björk, Aphex Twin, Melt-Banana, Brian Eno/Roxy Music, 16 Horsepower/Wovenhand, Miracle Legion, Dinosaur Jr., The Young Gods, the Human League, anything Jason Molina's been involved in, John Prine, Autechre, Portal, Morbid Angel, Talk Talk, Wipers, Minutemen, King Tubby, etc.
Shoutout to 16 Horsepower. David Eugene Edwards rules. Wovenhand is another one of the great bands he’s involved in.
These guys were on the bill for a ton of different festivals I went to back in the day, but I can honestly say I never saw them.
i’d love an episode on Ghost
Open up two windows on your computer, play the kiss episode and the queen episode at the same time
I bought Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for 2$ at a used CD shop and still regret it
Jay Bennett is what made Wilco great. When they fired him, they became a Generic Band. Listen to “Can’t Stand It,” “California Stars,” “War On War,” “Jesus Etc,” “Remember The Mountain Bed,” “Secret of the Sea.”
Was he on those tracks or nah
Wilco sucks after Jay Bennet
Thank you
I like "Summerteeth" and think it is easily their best. But I still think it is generic background music.
It doesn't sound like Spoon.
Please do an Aaron Lewis/Staind sucks episode!
Agree
But Staind is good
@@JimBobMcGillicuddy Hahaha 😂😂😂... Staind.. As in shit "staind" music
In the UK, Wilco is the name of a home store, so now I'm confused. I've never heard of this band before
Snap. Never heard of the band either so I just picture the store
No one knows them either. No worries.
The hat wasn’t floppy enough guys
I knew this was coming eventually
Excited for this year of YFBS
(But you guys will never do a Zappa episode)
Nobody even questions if Wilco sucks 😅
can you do a Frank Ocean sucks, feel like he's due rn
YES. My god his fucking dans. I like the guys music but holy shit he and his music sucks!!
He actually sucks lol
I started listening to this episode as a podcast on a train home. I thought you meant floppy hat as in a bucket hat or something. I am happy I was wrong.
You’re right, they’re wrong, for better or worse
Glad to hear you mention 16 Horsepower. Such a fantastic band. On the other side of "Alternative Country", what do you think of Mohave 3, especially their earlier work?
Spot on.
i have never heard a single song from this band, but, after this i do not want to still. lol i do however want to listen to the other bands that you mentioned, you dudes have never let me down before.
whats your opinion on Arctic Monkeys, seems like they've quietly been the most popular band of the last 10 years
I’m so happy i came to youtube to see what the “floppy hat” was that y’all were talkin about. I never would have guessed. I’ve always known it as the “rich mom on vacation” hat, most likely paired with giant designer sunglasses, so it’s hilarious to imagine hipsters wearing those
My favorite podcast
Too me
Yes, finally!!!
i like your show.
one of my favorite bands is Culture Club and would love to see you do an episode dedicated to them, lol
Now that Tyler coined the phrase, when are we getting an "Nonetry Music" shirt?
Wilcos drummer worked on T-Shift’s latest album. So that tells me all I need to know.
They were playing a music festival I went to this past weekend. Didn’t stay for their set and now I feel vindicated.
Never had I agreed with you more on a shout out to a lesser known band. I fucking love Hey Album by Marvelous 3. Underrated power pop.
I think I might have fallen for this if it didn't happen at the same time that I was first getting into actual country music. I don't know about how I feel about this coming from a Gram Parsons apologist though.
Gram Parsons was kinda the Jeff tweedy of his day now that you mention it
Oh shit, a Butch Walker reference! Dude took guitar lessons from my guitar teacher in high school, so you can thank Jerry King for Butch Walker.
I'm new here but love the show. Any Marilyn Manson plans??
Jeff Tweedy's voice is if Wayne Coyne took a liking to nicotine instead of LSD, or even better, some drunk guy trying a John Prine impression. That's never a compliment.
the Heavy Metal Drummers song was kinda good tho ngl
Back in 2003, I fell into the music media hype trap for this band and watched the documentary and bought Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Summerteeth. When I realized I couldn’t bring myself to listen to either record all the way through, I made a mixtape of four or five of the songs from both albums (that’s two or three songs per album, not four or five each) that I found listenable, including ELT and Camera. Then I realized I couldn’t even listen to the mixtape all the way through and gave up, sadder but wiser.
I kinda liked that album of woodsy Guthrie covers they did but that’s about it
Dead the f*** on with Billy Bragg, and the Radiohead comparisons.
I was doubtful for some reason, that' you'll you ever come for N'SYNC. Dang!!!
Nice shout to Slim Cessna and Munley
I am confused Wilco hasn't even resembled country since "Being There," their second album. Of course I agree they are a perfect band for a genericized adult contemporary indie generation. They made krautrock and experimental rock sound unassuming enough to be played in the Starbucks mix.
Didn't they do a song that appeared in the first Spongebob movie?
You mean Ween?
@@harrisonmullaly9194 Wilco did Just A Kid and the song appeared in the 2nd part of the credits
16 Horsepower reference!
nirvana is more country than wilco. cant wait for the john mayer episode!
ELO's "Out of the blue" is a double album.
also 13:34 Son Volts "trace" is a great album - way better than "AM" - but they should've stopped there.
Please do a Spoon sucks!
I'm a big fan of Uncle Tupelo from when I saw them by chance in 91. Still Feel Gone is still one of my all-time favorite top 5 albums. never was a fan of Wilco. I feel like Jay and Jeff got into many heated arguments in the studio and because of that mostly the good stuff got released But my defense of Tupelo is that no one was really that sound back then and really didn't become that successful til the end
Uncle Tupelo is one the best bands ever, and few people have heard them.
Jeff has done some decent stuff with Wilco, but I’m more of Jay fan.
spotify is the community no live bands add to their tours, except its studio albums lol
spotifys embarassing, man
I would love an episode on Faith No More. I'm pretty neutral on them, but I also don't get all the hype around Mike Patton's voice when he sounds like he a cartoon character with a broken nose more than half the time.
tell us you've only heard The Real Thing without telling us you've only heard The Real Thing
@@magicjackm just last week someone recommended that I listen to FNM’s live version of some song so I went to YT and holy shit did that song suuuuck, Patton couldn’t hit any of the notes, it was just embarrassing
@@magicjackm I love the assumption die hard fans have of any band. "You just haven't heard the RIGHT album, man." Nah, dude, I had a phase. I heard them all.
No mention of Loose Fur!
Reddit: the podcast
More like wontco
You guys should look on Discogs at the prices people pay for barely out of print Wilco records. It’s ridiculous
im down with any fucking podcast that mentions 16 Horsepower. just the mere fact that a host even knows about their greatness lets me know that they are a trusted source of what is "good" and "bad" music.
Do giuded by voices
What do you guys think of Iggy pop
who?
This entire time I thought I was musically inept for not understanding this band's appeal. On the other hand, I'm literally listening to Pennywise right now, so what the fuck do I know?
YHF is excruciating to listen to. If I want to learn "How to Write One Song" the last person I'd buy a book from would be Jeff Wilco, as he hasn't done it yet. "Crawling is screw faster latch, I blow it with kisses" get fuckin real
Wait....that's not Dave landau?
Jay Bennet, Wilco guitarist, was my first guitar teacher in Champaign-Urbana, in 1994. R.I.P. Jay.
That said, i never really liked Wilco. As a teenage beginner guitarist in the 90s I wanted to learn dumb shit like Metallica and Alice and Chains.
Can’t wait for the Playboi Carti sucks episode, truly some of the worst music I’ve heard is by him
Die lit is great...because pierre bourne.. WLR is one of the most overrated "influential" albums recently...somehow the artist carti influenced makes music thats 10x worse.
That hat is a taco
I don't believe Wilco is real and you guy make that up
I got a Dr Pepper tattoo, #DoctorPepper
Is wilco a band
Floppy hat = the hat Steven Tyler wears
they're such an esoteric nu-listeneable band...
Wilco is actually way worse than you describe. I remember hearing one album ( against my will) which sounded like they took The Band and crossed it with Little Feat, but removed all the interesting aspects of both bands but kept all the terrible aspects. Spiders is a rip off of the Peter Gabriel song On the Air, despite the band claiming its their token experimental krautrock song.
When are you two going to do no/fx, bright eyes, Dinosaur Jr., sonic youth, velvet underground.
Jeff Wilco 😂
Gonna be a lot of angry dads
I hope they have or will do Steely Dan, so nauseating.
we did
Wilco is a rock band. Critics called Wilco alt country, not the band.
25:26 Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is a Masterpiece. Jay Bennett is the reason it was so great.
Listen to the song “War On War.” Musically, that song is superb. Very experimental, and simultaneously very catchy.
“Pot Kettle Black” is also an excellent song from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
The entire album is about September 11th. Wilco claims it isn’t, and that it was recorded before September 11th. I believe that’s true, but not all of it was recorded before September 11th: the song “Jesus, etc,” the centerpiece of the album, was most likely recorded after September 11th. Some of the lyrics are: “Tall Buildings shake, voices escape, singing sad songs.” It’s beautifully inspired by September 11th.
They claim it’s not at all inspired by September 11th, though the album cover is of 2 identical buildings in Chicago. Yes, I believe those are a “fictional” representation on the Twin Towers.
Again: I believe they claim Yankee Hotel Foxtrot had nothing to do with 9/11 because they didn’t want to appear to capitalize off that tragedy.
Another great song on the album is called “Kamera.”
No songs on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot could be described as “Alt.Country.” It’s more like an Experimental version of “Guitar-Pop.”
At any rate, as they were completing Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Jeff Tweedy fired Jay Bennett, who’s the one who made all of the songs on Yankee so beautifully experimental.
Since then (1997-2001) Wilco has become a very generic band.
The fact that you have to go this in depth to defend Wilco says enough about the band
@@bobertrobertson130
My Brother,
I’m guessing you haven’t listened to any of the songs I mentioned.
I watched this entire video, and I can easily tell that neither of these dudes listened to more than 5 minutes of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
And they didn’t listen to the songs I mentioned.
I enjoy differing opinions. I also like it when people disagree with my opinion.
But I don’t like it when a couple idiots OBVIOUSLY didn’t listen to the album that this podcast seems to be focused on.
The dude on the left DEFINITELY did not listen to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and the dude on the right seems to have listened to the 1st song, and stopped there.
Here is the most absurd part of this podcast:
They are putting down “Alt.Country” the whole time (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot has NO RELATION to Alt.Country, by the way), WITHOUT ONCE MENTIONING THAT MAINSTREAM COUNTRY IS THE DUMBEST, LIGHTEST, FAKEST VANILLA CR** EVER MADE.
For example: Here are some MAINSTREAM COUNTRY GARBAGE from 2002, when Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was released:
Faith Hill - Cry
Toby Keith - Courtesy of the red, white & blue
Montgomery Gentry - My Town
Rebecca Lynn Howard - Forgive
John Michael Montgomery - Til Nothing Comes Between Us
Pinmonkey - Barbed Wire & Roses
Diamond Rio - Beautiful Mess
Go listen to those songs.
THAT’S THE GARBAGE THEY CALL “NEW COUNTRY.”
It literally is the worst garbage being created in the world, and is still being made today.
Alt.County isn’t perfect, but the point was to make Old Timey Country with REAL INSTRUMENTS that’s the opposite of the OVERPRODUCED NON-MUSIC that is New Country.
At any rate, enjoy your evening.
29:44 This dude didn’t “Go Back and listen to the album.”
@IchigoMatsumoto1889
My Brother,
I wish I could be a hipster.
I understand what these Bros are doing.
They’re being contrarian.
They made videos of why Nirvana sucks, why Jimi Hendrix sucks, why Beck sucks, etc etc etc.
So they’re trying to bait people.
Again: They’re trying to poke people to get a reaction.
But: They should at least listen to the album they’re talking about.
Almost this entire podcast episode is about the album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but neither of them listened to the album, but they claim they did.
They should just say:
“We didn’t listen to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. One of us listened to One Song, and this other dude didn’t listen to even one song. We hate the idea of this band, so we’re going to give non-specific-generic put-downs, because we never listened to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.”
They are liars.
That said, that’s the point of their podcast: They make fun of everything just to get a reaction out of people.
I agree: Wilco has sucked ever since 2001-2002 when they fired Jay Bennett.
Jay Bennett was the dude who pushed their experimentation forward and added all the interesting sounds.
Without Jay, Wilco is as boring and generic as these dudes say.
Always been a Wilco fan. Just remember, you can’t always change everyone’s opinion on the band. Personally the Jay Bennett era was the best (1996-2001)
Thank you! I hate this band so much and our community radio station worship Jeff Tweedy. 🤦🏻♂️
Bon Iver
So you don’t like Americana music… ok… yeah a lot of it is Bob Seger mixed with alt. Rock and the occasional bluegrass instrument being thrown in 😂 it’s country music for those who grew up in the suburbs but only like 15 minutes away from the actual country
Would like to hear you do Greta Van Fleet……… I’ll still like you 😂
But you have to watch some of their interviews…. Like Addressing All of Your Questions on their UA-cam..
post 2011 wilco sucks
Southern Culture on the Skids is way cooler.
Why do i not take these guys seriously? Who are they?
You guys have gone and upset Jeff Wilco...now he's gonna write a song about it. That song will also suck, probably on limited edition color 180g vinyl too.
Wilco are like indie films for unseasoned potatoes.
Needless to say, the intro music for the pod sucks.
You guys should do a punk band after the *NSYNC episode like NOFX or bad religion
Ngl you guys are the reason why I even heard of most of these awful hipster bands. God damn no wonder the rest of the 90s were awful for rock and country
*HIS NAME IS JEFF TWEEDY NOT JEFF WILCO*
according to you
Yeah right and I suppose the green guy isn’t named Halo
This episode is lazy and phoned in. Leaving loose low hanging fruit. 🎉
