Maybe that's an unpopular opinion but the Warcraft movie was actually very good, and actually such great movie adaptations of games are extremely unusual. the movie might have not been popular with the audience outside of players because the story could have been too confusing for someone who didn't play the game and didn't know the lore.

As much as I liked the Warcraft movie, I felt if they chose something else like the story of Arthas, it would've done better. I understand that it can be overwhelming when you look at how long Warcraft's been around with that sheer volume of lore and worldbuilding, but going with something like the naive prince's fall from grace is something basic and solid enough to build up a franchise from.

the original plan was to have the first movie be about the warcraft 1 and 2 lore and then the following movies would go into the warcraft 3 lore, but since the first movie flopped all plans were dropped for that, which is a shame. missed opportunity for sure... also the director they chose to make the first movie was really bad, clearly not very experienced in movie making.
the continuity errors, cuts, acting, cast etc. all just seem completely off.... i mean i love actors like Travis Fimmel, but he is no Lothar.

something catastrophic was clearly going on during production because its not just a little continuity error here and there, its like everywhere, all the time all over the place.
i also think they could have done a bit more with the costume that the character "Garona" was wearing... i mean she literally just look like a human woman painted green and the tusks are obviously fake plastic.

I think the story would benefit a lot better in a tv show format. Too much ground to cover for just 2 hour long movies, it needs to be fleshed out more. At the same time, the budget for tv shows is lower, and something like warcraft needs bigger budgets so it gets expensive. Kinda complicated to make it work...

The Warcraft movie is underrated, insane visuals with the realistic looking orcs(seriously re watch it and look closely at the orcs it's crazy), pretty great interpretation of the old lore(it's not canon you dolts..it is it's own thing people need to stop being butt hurt). And then some, it was amazing but people just got pissy that it wasn't "Lore accurate" when it was known from the damn beginning that it wasn't going to be as a movie adaptation. So they shit on it for purely that reason alone and didn't look at it objectively as a story.

Nothing is going to work except the rise and fall and defeat of Arthas. But to do that they also have to set up Tirion Fordring as a main character too. A time crunch might work a bit too. I think this could work as a 7 season tv series if it had a good budget. The first season could be the fall of Arthas ending with him killing his father while following the Orcs exodus to Kalimdor. The second season could be the sacking of Lordaeron by the Scourge with the Orcs landing in Kalimdor and encountering and clashing with the nightelves for the first time. The third season could be the fall of Silvermoon and the destruction of Dalaran by Archimonde while touching on the humans fleeing to Kalimdor and introduce Illidan. Season 4 could be the end of Warcraft 3 where Orcs Humans and Nightelves, with the other races the orcs met along the way, saving the world tree and defeating Archimonde. Season 5 could Arthas going to Icecrown to merge with Nerzhul and become the full Lich King by defeating Illidan and season six could be a build up of starting the campaign against Arthus in Northrend. Season 7 would then be the final battle against the Scourge and Arthas culminating in his final defeat. Now what has Tirion Fordring been doing this whole time? He would essentially be the Jon Snow character. The character that is not a part of the other events but is in exile and his story slowly builds into being the most important one. They could start his story as the revered paladin that helped an orc due to honor and was exiled for it. Then he could watch, and try to help where he could, the destruction of his homeland around him. Then they could show the formation of the Scarlet Crusade then the Argent Dawn, when he got the Ashbringer and set him up for a final confrontation with Arthas. His POV would be where we truly watch the evil that Arthas unleashed on the world and the aftermath with a deep sense of duty and justice building withing Tirion. His scenes would be shown every season as the other larger events were happening culminating in his final showdown with Arthas to end the show.

They need to do a cinematic biopic on one of the most well known main characters in WoW. Like the Lich King for example, I know so many people that have never touched any of Blizzard’s IPS but they still know who the Lich King is. I think the movie should really focus on him and his kingdom. Follow him through his early years and into his adult years and the end of the movie should be when he puts on the helm of domination and sits down as the fully developed Lich King. It’s should be like a coming of age movie, but a coming of age movie where instead of things ending up happily ever after, it leaves the movies ending open for a follow up movies where the Lich King is confronted and taken down. That is just my idea. They need to focus on some main character that almost everyone knows the name of even if they have no experience with the games. That would sell seats in the theatre. The only other suggestion I might make… is well. The make really realistic looking CGI movies for every expansion of WoW and they just keep looking better and better. So why don’t they just make a completely CGI movie that looks like the CGI movies they have for the start of every expansion. But if they follow the idea of telling the story of a super recognizable character in their IP like the Lich King, I think they could simply follow the same style of the first movie. The first movie wasn’t that bad looking. I just think the stories they chose for the first movie were too lore heavy for to get new people interested in WoW and they had too many characters in service of the hardcore fans, which was nice for the fans. But like I said to new people that they want to attract to their IP of WoW the story for the first movie was just too much and nothing much recognizable for people new to WoW or people whose first experience with WoW was the movie. Eh, that’s my two cents. Cheers all and have a good one!!!

An animated series would be less clunky in concept, and we already know that Blizzard retains a decent animation team. If they could get a solid director and adapt their cinematic team (or at least enough of them to oversee and assist additional animators so that the team isn't too overburdened) for the project, it might be doable. Otherwise, I'd almost expect the story of Warcraft 3 to require multiple movies to really convey.

It doesnt matter that there was some slight lore changes, that's always going to happen when you try to squish so much content into one movie, and there is no way they could only do one movies worth of less squished content. I would give everything I have to see a live action movie involving either Arthas or Illidan. Animated series means nothing because its still not real, its just another game cutscene. Making it live action makes it more real, more relateable.

Warcraft lends itself to an animated series on either Netflix or Hulu perfectly. They could basically turn each expansion from World of Warcraft, classic all the way through Legion over multiple seasons of a show Then completely skip BFA and Shadowlands. The reason the Avengers movies worked so well is because they tried to make them for people that wanted to see comics come to life not the Hollywood producers who think they know what people want

The only problem with a TV show is it would likely need to be animated. I know special effects have become a lot easier to implement than they used to be, but to get a warcraft series that's not heavily focused on just the alliance side, they'd need a lot of CG and that gets really expensive fast.

does it really get more expensive than hiring actors, stunt doubles, using tons of recording equipment etc.? Not to mention that if the animated series turned out to be a success, blizzard would benefit from it double time, because it wouldn't just give them money as % of the whole profit for allowing the studio to use their franchise, but they could also expect a lot of new people trying out WoW/warcarft so they would sell more games/playtime

I think you hit the spot Doron. The setting being focused at Orcs Vs Humans wasn’t the right decision to capture mainstream. The story of Arthas would’ve made for a better adaptation as it could serve plot twists and cliffhangers if done properly. Also the creative decisions on cgi orcs in the wake of Avatar movie fame wasn’t the best imo as they seemed too cgi. I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed for this one. Warcraft has huge lore potential to be explored successfully if done right.

A série with a lot of ambition could be a very big thing.
I watched the warcraft movie with friends who don't know the lore. Every 5 minutes I had to stop to explain them because they didn't understand where all the references where coming from.
That is the thing. If you decide to do fan service , one movie orcs vs human with fights and stuff is fine. You don't need plot introduction. And can focus on what your audience want.
If you decide to do a movie for everyone , you end up making things that don't make sense especially if you still try to do fan service.
It makes a movie that is not good for one or the other purpose.
But a series can be a great thing. You can introduce plot , you can segment that plot in different arcs.
It is more ambitious and risky , but it is what is needed if you want things to be done the right way , to make people new to the lore and long time fans enjoy it

A Warcraft movie? Naah.. Make it a series instead.. Theres sooooo much lore, that simply can't be covered in a single movie.. The last one I was quite disappointed about, cause they tried to cramp as much as possible into one movie, but it was too much and so much lore was merged...
A series would work much better...
But sadly... I'd rather not, cause a Warcraft series (or movie) would be woke af.. So.. No thanks.. And if they are gonna make one, make it fully animated, not that mix of animated/live-action

I don't think the first movie struggled because it was too much information. It suffered because it didn't give enough information. It was written with the assumption that the audience already knew the story, so they omitted a lot of stuff to save time. That doesn't make for good storytelling.
I think they should have started with a series of films or even short films that focused on the story arcs of a number of specific characters. Give a few key characters their due and fully establish the setting, _then_ do a full 'Warcraft Movie' where they all cross paths and fight it out. Marvel went this path and it worked out extremely well. If they hadn't laid the groundwork with the origin films first, the avengers movies would've been a total flop. For something as lore-dense as Warcraft, they really should've done the same. It's probably too late to change course now, but I hope the second movie does better.

100% a TV Series. They would have a lot more time to move the storyline into the viewers. Create a long relationship with the characters and grow with interest for a longer time.
I liked the movie, and I would love to see another, but the amount of story/lore and activities can carry this for many many seasons.
Have it damaging - have a great relationship of the character only to kill them off unexpectedly. Everyone loves Chaos and loves to not be able to guess what will happen next. WARCRAFT is that unexpected story.

The only way to credibly approach the issue is start with animated series. Once CGI becomes cheaper they can move to it. If the franchise explode they could then do separate tie-in movies with real actors not being obliged to sign long contracts with aging real actors. See what happened to the MCU.

Unpopular opinion: I've played since vanilla and enjoyed the movie very much and think they should make several sequels, telling the story of Warcraft from where they started to where they plan to end, over the course of however many movies it may take to do so. Also, I personally think the 3 xpac announcement means the end of WoW, I believe they're planning to wrap up the story and game by the end of the trilogy.

if someone DOES pick up a second Warcraft movie, I genuinely hope they go further back than where they started.
Or perhaps, skip forward to Warcraft III where we're introduced to Thrall as he works his way to Chieftain of the Orcs.
Sylvanis going from an unwanted banshee to Queen of the Damned - Scourge. Arthas' downfall from a righteous
Paladin to going to Northrend*** where he merges with the Frozen Throne and becomes the Lich King Arthas after
killing his father, the King, in Lordaeron. As well as how the alliance and horde decide to team up and fight against
the Ice Crown Citadel and Lich King Arthas' undead army.
I would LOVE to see them pull off a trilogy - if I had my ideal person to make it, it would be Peter Jackson with proper
planning and timing, especially with his huge team of set designs using practical effects, gigantic miniatures mixed
with SOME green screen / CGI and NOTHING, i mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE the "Hobbit trilogy" which should
NOT have been a trilogy. at MOST they could have split it into two movies but honestly that's stretching it... and i get
transcribing a book into a movie is difficult to include all the details, honestly the Hobbit movies genuinely SKIPPED
over 99% of Bilbo Baggins - the TITULAR character of the entire trilogy... he made his entire character arc by the END
of the FIRST MOVIE in the trilogy and man... it was dead on arrival due to the late changes in directors from Guillermo
to Peter Jackson and they did NOT have the same amount of time to finding sights to film at / film in, no miniatures
that are huge in size (look at behind the scenes of LotR compared to the Hobbit to see what I mean). Anyways...
I truly believe Peter Jackson might be the ONLY person to be able to pull off a Warcraft TRILOGY movie given the time
and effort he had for LotR trilogy.
Even to this day, LotR holds up BIG TIME even when they use extremely out of date CGI... compared to the Hobbit, it is
by FAR a much better viewing experience and you can feel the tension and highs/lows. The way they filmed with Ian
and the hobbits was so much better than what they put that poor man through on the Hobbit... he had a legit mental
breakdown filming the Hobbit cuz he was majority of the time... alone, in a greenscreen room with references as to
where to look when speaking. he said he genuinely broke down and started crying on set one day due to his extreme
loneliness and it made the cast realize what they were doing and they surprised with him a Gandalf celebration of sorts.
Either way. the Hobbit had far more problems than that. the CGI was just... overwhelming... the "de-aging" filters on
certain characters were absolutely atrocious... Legolas (Orlando Bloom) being OLDER IRL than Lee Pace who played
Legolas' father. The FPS they filmed in... just a total mess. The last movie was called "Battle of the Five Armies"
yet NO ONE CAN AGREE or simply point out and say "Army 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5."
Since in the books, goblins and orcs were generally synonymous and the only difference in some orcs were how they
came to be; I.E. in LotR when Saurumon flipped to serve Sauron and work against the Wizard Council, he grew his Orcs
which are supposed to be elves that are corrupted by the darkness. What made the Uruk-hai so much different were
their obvious size difference, ability to move and fight during the daylight (however weakened but most of the orcs/goblins
could NOT STAND the sunlight at all to even be outdoors in it...). Along with their other power ups of Sauromons famous
speech when he created Lurtz and finalized his army: "You do not know pain, you do not know fear, you do not know tiredness..."
etc. and of course the white hand of Saurumon marking them as different.
However, in the Hobbit Trilogy, Smaug was a VERY SMALL segment in the books... yet they made it an entirely whole movie
and threat... and he didn't "officially" end until the beginning of the third movie.
So by the time we have the Battle of the Five Armies there are the following:
Bilbo and his Dwarven companions to get to the Mountain that WAS taken by Smaug, made up an entire thing called "Dragon sickness"
then his cousin came to his aid, so is that ONE or TWO armies? an Army of 13 holed up dwarves and his cousins army of dwarves = 2?
Then the Elves that were promised their fair share which... all they wanted was the necklace. why was that so hard to hand over?
Elf army = #2 or is it army #3?
Then we have two separate ORC armies (One led by the albino orc who should be dead at this point in the books, Azog? idk)
and his son, both had armies so is that one ORC army or TWO orc armies making potentially #3 or #4 and #5??
Then we had the HUMANS making army #4,5, or 6?
As well as the beasts that ate through the mountains, giant trolls, and other creatures, do they also make up other armies?
no one KNOWS for a fact what are THE FIVE ARMIES. and Legolas did some over-the-top nonsense in LotR but it was mainly
a "comic relief" situation 9x out of 10. yet in the Hobbit we see him pull off unrealistic things even for a FANTASY world.
On top of that, the Necromancer aka revealed to be Sauron (also made up for the movie, where the Wizard Council shows up
with Elrond instead of showing the two Blue Wizards - this was their CHANCE to SHOW the blue wizards and they chose to
bring in Elrond and Galadriel...) moving on and back to WC movie ideas:

    • @drewskiwest5284
      @drewskiwest5284 9 місяців тому

Movie 1 could show a prologue opening pre-title card of the Demon Jaedon and/or Archimonde corrupting Gul'dan and getting
the orcs to drink the demon blood of big boys name, the Pit Lord (i can't believe I'm drawing a blank), making them have their
different skin color. From which they came from Outworld and did a lot of damage there until the portal was opened to Azeroth.
And once they walk through the portal on a War March campaign being led by Gul'dan and Gromm Hellscream; title Card.
Then we see Human HQ like Stormwind and people talking or in Kul'Tiras where we meet Paladin Uther and young Prince Arthur
      training. Meeting Jaina and all.
      Lots of things happen that i can't type out since I don't have a story board written down this is just off the top of my head;
there can be dialogue, information dump/whatever. And the humans vs orc battles beginning and towards the end of their battle
we see the opening credits of Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos where Infernals began raining from the sky. [[How I WISH that voice actor
did NOT pass away. NO ONE CAN REPLACE HIS EPIC VOICE. my first time hearing him was in that playstation game with Raziel
and the other vampire clan leaders and the vampire leader above all, Kain. SOUL REAVER 2 thats the game. Loved that game out
the gate based off that intro cinematic and that voice actors incredible narration.
Anyway. During this first movie we can get glimpses and introductions to the other races, just simple scenes of what they're doing
such as dwarves mining and working/living their life in their main big stronghold. Then we could also have mid cred/end cred scenes
introducing the Night Elves (Tyrande Speaking with Furion) as mid credit talking about how their woodlands are being under siege
then end credit we get to see a panning shot of the outside of Illidan's prison, panning around everything and eventually zooming in
seeing Maiev standing guard of illidan and his glowing eyes "opening" underneath his eye wrappings.
2nd movie would obviously be embassies sent out across the world to put together the Alliance and the Horde. race leaders meeting
and agreeing on chieftain Thrall, and whoever was King at the time of the humans. While we still have Nightelves observing until it
directly effects them and this is where halfway into film we get into Wc3 TFT expansion showing Illidan escaping and raising up the
Naga. so now Malfurion and Tyrande have to respond to the world at war and they join the alliance of humans, gnomes, dwarves.
While the horde is orc, troll, tauren, undead (sylvanis is introduced in 2nd act) since the first act will be the meeting of races to come
together but the pre-title card shot will be Arthas 'losing his mind' by killing humans who would turn undead like in the campaign from
the poisoned grains. Sylvanis is forcibly turned into a banshee, but she breaks free of that and takes over the undead underground.
idk how to explain what i see in my head. The rise of this movie will be Arthas finding Frostmourne, while orcs have their infighting
over the pitlord blood making Hellscream bloodlusty. Illidan ecapes in the intro. Hunting down Arthas. Then when Arthas returns
home with Frostmourne, he assumes leadership via killing his father. Medivh will be throughout all movies as per cinematics and
cutscenes in the game. The final act will be Arthas fighting Illidan in Northrend where we know he ends up climbing up and melding
with the Lich King (Ner'zhul I think?) and he becomes insanely powerful.
Third movie we see flash backs of the meetings of the Dreadlords and Demons that are the masterminds behind all of this, and
we see the transformation from past planning to modern moment where Archimonde is drawing his sigil to destroy the human
castle. by drawing in the dirt and then swiping through it. I still haven't found the best spot to put him in regards to when he does
this against humans or when he blows up the Tree of Life or a combination of him trying to destroy it on top of being surrounded
by wisps who explode and kill him and so much land around it is destroyed and scarred.
      At any rate.
We see death knights in the picture in act 1 where they're breaking free of the Lich King, and between A1 and A2 we see the 2
sides going up to Northrend to fight together. And obviously, the peak fight will be trying to kill Lich King Arthas by going through
the citadel killing all the massive creatures. This will have probably the most fights, but some of it can be cut down since certain
boss fights in the raid are obviously mechanics that if happened IRL such as the movie (ex: marrowgar's bonespike cc) could just
freeze instead of impaling OR if it impales it kills them. anyway. they finally get to the top and fight Arthas.
End of Act3 is the semi-slowburn of Arthas' death and of course the "new lich king being "born" aka someone ALWAYS HAS TO BE
the Lich King to keep them under control.

There's SO MUCH CONTENT in just two games they have an EASY trilogy to make, if not build a super franchise like MCU did by
introducing us to each race and cross-overs in movies specifically dedicated to certain leaders' journeys, and different stages of it.
like Iron Man 1 2, Avengers, Captain America, etc did. They could do it that way to fully flesh out the world building of Azeroth,
Outworld, All 4 main races, dragons, giants, jotunhiem, special weapons like Lichbourne. There's just so much they could do with it.
With proper time, budget, directing, casting; they should have done it that way from the start cuz that warcraft movie that came out...
i can NOT think of anyone who can sit there and genuinely say they truly liked it.
Think of it like the first two hulk movies... they didn't do too well until Iron Man with RDJr as lead. We could start off with a strong lead
in human section of the story as we follow him learn from Uther to be a Paladin. and his relationship with Jaina, Uther and is Father,
and it ends with the invasion of the evil orcs, not Thrall's leadership of orcs.
I mean they even have a way to make a netflix series. The possibilities are endless as long as they do NOT mess up the SOURCE MATERIAL,
OVER USE OF CGI, UNDERPLANNNG, RUSHING, BAD ACTOR AND ACTRESS PICKING and ABSOLUTELY ZERO TOLERANCE FOR AGENDAS
IN AMERICAN SOCIETY TODAY. LEAVE THAT FOR OTHER MOVIES; THIS MOVIE OR POTENTIAL SERIES WITH 1HR EPISODES AND A LEAST
5-6 SEASONS IF NOT MORE DEPENDING ON FAR IT GOES SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY RE-GENDERING, RE-COLORING OF CHARACTERS, ETC.
ESPECIALLY MAKING RANDOM PPL HOMOSEXUAL (IT JUST DOES NOT FIT WITH WC LORE AND THE POINT OF THE STORY).
      anyways..
if i had it my way, it would be done the Peter Jackson LotR way. with a huge budget, tons of awesome actors, and a gigantic team that
worked together and everyone gets along and loves doing what they're doing for the movie or show; Art department, clothing design, set design,
      etc.
I can ONLY hope and dream since I just know in my heart no corporation will fund it and allow the director to do what needs to be done.
When Peter Jackson HAD to take over the hobbit trilogy... they legit had to start from scratch and it put so much stress on everyone.
So many actors had breakdowns as mentioned before. storylines that did NOT exist in the book just to extend the length of movie runetime,
bard becoming a 'main character' for no reason and no one cared to see what happens to his family honestly.. just so much junk in those films
wrong FPS and horrible abuse of CGI it was just terrible.

  • @wolfdrago9541

i see a few options. lets start with an show series of before the dark portal officially opened. like just before. first series would be revolving around the humans on Azeroth and the orcs on dreanor. would it be long, yes. would it lay out lore for people to understand, yes. at the end of season 1 or 2 the dark portal opens. have the next season be focused on just the first war, then move on. long story short episodes later we get the fall of arthas. the next season or two would be focused on arthas's arc. if you catch the pattern here i feel like it would be great. basically don't rush it but give time to explain shit. the movie had lore all over the place and somethings just straight up didn't add up. what i think would be the smartest idea is to hire the cinematics team to make this movie. personally i think they know how to make people hooked. i stopped playing retail but I've always kept myself in the loop solely because of the cinematics. a tv series made by the cinematics team the the people who are keeping to the lore. now how far before the dark portal you go is a different thing. you dont want a series based off of peace time otherwise there is going to be no viewers, but no one wants to see a bunch of soldiers stabbing murlocs gnolls and troggs for 7 episodes straight. the biggest problem is that the lore goes so far back that it would take ages to get through it all.either way. end the series before it hits catacylsm. it would throw everything into chaos. i see the perfect ending for the series would be bolivar putting the helm of domination on and saying that there must always be a lich king. that would leave veiwers on edge wanting to know more about what happens and thus more people taking a peek at the game itself. now, this would be a good time to drop wow2 or something. what would be cool is in wow 2. everything after wotlk is different. with more expansions coming it feels like there is less in the world. ( medevil knights and orcish paladins are now traveling the solar system in a crystal spaceship trying to farm crystals to save the planet of goat people so they can cross dimensions to have their undead druid turn into a cat made purely of fire delve into the depths of the plane of afterlife existance to stop a giant robot from becoming a god like lich king who took over the burning legion lore in order to forge a blade made of the blood of a god to talk to our home planet's soul to fight eldritch beings for the tenth time, but wait dragons and dragon people are having a civil war over rocks we must have our robot fox people train to become demon hunters in order to...) you see where this is going? the show should never reach that point.

I'll straight out say it: YOU CAN'T do an Arthas storyline.
For Arthas to make sense, we 1st need to establish who Ner'zhul is, but he can't be there without finishing up 2nd War and the Alliance Expedition to Draenor.
We're done with 1st War with the 1st movie, so we can go on from there.
But Arthas' story adaptation cannot go through WITHOUT any built-up to it.
But if we HAVE TO do a reboot, start with Rise of the Horde and The Last Guardian combo. With written source material existing this shouldn't be a problem.

That wouldnt be too bad unless they decide to kinda change the Lore how they did in the first movie so it could make more sense to people who are not familiar.
Didnt they basically cover small part of the "The Last Guardian" in the first movie? But who knows how they approach it if its in a movie setting and continuation of what they released first the Rise of the Horde will make most sense tbh then maybe WC3:RoC? so they could follow up with WC3:FT and milk the Arthas story.

I mean, when I first played Warcraft 3 a loong time ago, it was my first step in the Warcraft universe. And without the context of 1 and 2, the Arthas story made perfect sense. Ner'zhul was a mystery to be explored later, same with Medivh, his cryptic explanation before Eternity's End was enough to convince me he's a big deal, the Alliance in Draenor does not really come into play until the Frozen Throne, but does not have such an impact on Arthas' story anyway. These parts can always be explored in flashbacks later on, or a prequel if the franchise is successful.
