- I've always been of the opinion that a mother had the toughest job and should therefore be the most respected and admired of the 'workforce'.
Thank You 'Harriet Winslow' for making my point so dramatically and so professionally.
This segment from Family Matters is the best presentation on Motherhood in recent memory.
Underrated actress!
anjelheaven she is so is bernadette stanis and they are both beautiful woman!!!
After 98 when Family Matters was over, she started to be underrated. When she started in the show Perfect Strangers, she became very popular at the time right before Family Matters and right after.
@@bryanmarrero9817 what episodes of Perfect Strangers did she occur in?
The best part is after this she gets the job....
Yess I was emotional when she stood up for herself
She ATE that scene
Yess
Ate it??! More like she DEVOURED IT!!
Damn. She killed it. Wow. So epic. HARRIETTE was Superwoman and supermom!! 💙💙💙
OOOOOO Harriet nailed this part.👏👏👏👏
Deen Akeredolu-Ale miss jomarie did her thing
Go Harriet 👏👏
I love this episode! Skills are not taught in college. You do not get experience in college but you do get it thru every day's living. Mothers!!
True though, she still wouldn't get the job but, at least she stood up for herself - didn't leave pouting and most importantly : she held her head high and didn't lose respect by telling the next applicant to enter
@@greatest_bumble_bee_dude If you see the full episode spoiler Alert
she gets the job
Yes - in the show she gains the wanted employment opportunities though, I'm referring to real life scenarios
Since having my daughter when I feel cruddy I hear her say this in my head and it helps me get necessary strength to take care of chores and my little girl
Aranel Dragon aww so sweet but this episode is from 1989 things were diffrent back then
@@angeljohnson6665 the year doesn't matter. Women can still take care of a household of children and work a full time job and then some.
You go mama
In my opinion Jo Marie Payton will always be the one and only Harriet Winslow no offense to Judyann Elder( replacement Harriet) but she kinda dampened Harriet's character and made her seem like a pushover that didn't stand up for herself. After Jo Marie's departure Family Matters was never the same.
Judyann came along midway through the 9th season & only had about 12 episodes to really get acquainted with the role. I think scripts had already been written for a 10th season, but CBS was not happy with the low ratings season 9 was getting (though, I think they were already far gone when ABC canceled the show after season 8) & they did not pick it up.
Not only are there a lot of "what ifs" involved with regards to those unfilmed episodes, but who is to say maybe Judyann would have gotten the chance to make Harriette her own? I do agree, though, Judyann's approach was very different than Jo Marie's.
Much like when Daphne Maxwell Reid took over Aunt Viv on Fresh Prince from Janet Hubert. The first Harriette/Viv was not afraid to be an equal partner in disciplining the kids, whereas the second Harriette/Viv expressed more disappointment in their actions rather than laying down the law.
Everytime theres a character change like that the show is bound to be cancel
Facts!!! Wasnt the same anymore the show losted its touch!!!
I definitely agree!!!!! JoMaries Harriet took absolutely NO shit from anybody!!!!! Judyann's Harriet, while she DID put her foot down occasionally, didn't quite stand up for herself like JoMarie did.
Payton's Harriette would never interfered with Eddie's job as a cop because she knew how dangerous the job is. She used to train as a police officer in the same police academy that Carl trained at. Thus, Harriette would understand it better and let Eddie do his job as long as she knows he's safe. Elder's version interfered with his job and was called out by Carl for it.
You go Harriet!!
Yess
WE need messages like this today. It is sad that if anyone says this they will be blacklisted.
toplaycool21 i agree the 90s were flawless
@@angeljohnson6665 This was from the 80s. 1989.
Love this scene she nailed it!
Probably one of the best monologs in TV history.
Good job for standing up to him.
I love the still of this photo, because it perfectly captures her range an actress- hand on the hip or arms folded over each other with a resting bitch face. That was literally every episode how you will find Harriet Winslow. I close my eyes at any random episode when I hear her voice and I’m like she has her hand on her hip right now or her arms crossed. I open my eyes and i am right every time.
I love this scene between Harriet and her employer. She's right. When you confidently know that you've got the skills that are appropriate for a job position speak up about them. And that's just what Harriet did. " My favorite part of the speech is when Harriet tells her employer that when she was working full time, she was also raising a family, managing a household budget etc.. and that is something where you can't call in sick, can't take a vacation etc.. Very very powerful. Every woman should learn to be as assertive as this.
Harriette Winslow is one awesome woman and mother!
Shit almost bought a tear to my eye DAMN
Harriett was and always will be the mother of all mothers!
This bought me to tears when she told him off and said I am qualified, full time mom, Yess, ask my kids I said Yess I'm an African American man but I understand were she came from go girl
I know it’s been said before, but DAMN they don’t make shows like they did back in the day for TGIF!!!
Too bad they dont make this kinds of great shows anymore.
exactly
She wasn't wrong about having all of the experience in the world required for the job.
The kicker, "Oh! Would you mind asking the next applicant to come in?" lol...real sleazeball
A disrespectful putz that was also likely racist
The gr8 trans4mable bumble bee exactly
I wouldn't even want to work for that bastard anyway.
Next time, don't ask for a raise Carl. She almost lost her job because of that.
This scene makes me cry every time I watch it
With the way some parents do, she'd STILL get that job today.
Amen! Such a good actress!
Amen, Sistah Gurl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That turned out to be a hell of an interview! 🥴
That school now commercial cracked me up though lol but Harriet Winslow one of the great TV Moms for sure.
I never knew Family Matters was a spin-off of Perfect Strangers.
Me neither
Well, It Actually Was Because JoMarie Payton France Who Played On Perfect Strangers As The Elevator Operator And Then Reggie VelJohnson Also Appeared On The Show In The Episode "Crimebusters" From Season 4
Damn skippy ain't that the truth with kids never looked at it that way til I seen this I'm a pretty bad ass mom :)
Thanks SO MUCH for uploading ,this is one of my fav episodes and performances ever!
SO TRUE ON THAT! THINGS LIKE THAT ARE NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOL.
Didn't know she mentioned her kids names in Perfect Strangers
Ok but where is the episode where she got fired? And then quit? That moment was so good as well!
Season 9, Episode 9: A Pain in the Harassment
In a lot of cases, most places of employment demand that you have a college degree. However, I am surprised how some places would pass up those who are gifted inclined with the skill they are demanding without a college degree.
amen amen amen
Harriett has such a range as an actress. Hand on her hip or arms crossed.
This part of this episode just went off on TV1
I didn't like Jo maire Payton's replacement, she lacked a lot of chrasima that she had, plus there was no chemistry with her and Riganald VelJohnson.
I agree. JoMarie and Reginald had better chemistry. She was very no-nonsense during her first appearance on Perfect Strangers when she was an elevator operator at the Chicago Chronicle
Idk about asking Judy Winslow lol
Yes... let’s ask Judy about her parenting skills! 😜
1st official episode outside the pilot
love it
Gotta like the employer know like this go ahead Harriette
Shamar Campbell yes those were the good old days
Acting oozes
From this woman!!!!!
Actually, don't call Judy.
Yeah, she ain't home... LOL!!!
J Miller ...no mo!!!
Why yall say she aint home? Its 3 kids
Frau Steiner she’s upstairs
@TheMusicchild89 Not sure,I'm not one of those people who know the name of episodes, they don't exactly put the name of them during the intro, lol. Thanx for asking, wish I could help ya.
YAAAASSSS!!!!
J Miller yes miss jomarie is a flawless actress
Four years later the place fired her.
She killed him so sad that they took away Judy
Harriet is tough
I know thats right
Hand on hip hand on hip hand on hip hand on hip
U tell him Harriet
“Family Matter” link
They should have ended with ten seasons
Pffft! Some mother she was. Her daughter, Judy, went missing in the 5th season, and she didn't even notice.
Biscuits McGee Judy was written out the show!
Tygra Gonzalez What a shitty job they did.
JoMarie Payton>Judyann Elder (replacement Harriette)
What episode is this
"Two Income Family" Season 1 Episode 2
What about Carl? He'd likely have the most in depth and objective opinion
Amiqmiiqmiiqmm89
Judy? 😬
RAMÓN
Well, maybe not Judy.
gpe41 why lol?
This would not work in real life.
I agree with you. Being a mother, being a great parent, etc are excellent accomplishments, but in the real world, if a job requires management experience, bosses usually don't count being a parent as management experience.
Don’t call Judy
😭😭😭😭😭
Errrr..... don't call Judy.....
Don't call Judy Winslow. She's not exactly a...reputable source.
With all due respect, this wouldn’t get her the job in the real world. She’d probably get an eye roll from the guy. 🙄
Good scene though.
Youre weak ass would just take the firing and not say anything, lmao. If i tried to fire someone (because i am a business owner) for me not THINKING they cant do something they havent had an opportunity to TRY.. and they told me THAT... id give them a chance.
karateflix cool! 👍🏻
karateflix she wasn’t being fired, it was a job interview. Look, point being, being a wife and mother doesn’t qualify anyone for a management position and the fact that Harriet uses that to try and justify being given an opportunity is ridiculous. She’s comes off acting as if she’s the first wife/mother to ever apply for a job, lol.
Again, I admire the passion but...cmon. Everything she listed as her “management” experience isn’t any different than what any other spouse/parent of a household does on the daily. She’s trying to make it sound like her domestic responsibilities make her special and above other applicants...
It doesn’t.
With all due respect, I don't see it that way. The guy doing the interview said that she had no qualifications for a management position, and she stated that being a parent was a management position. She didn't say it made her superior to the other applicants, just that it meant she had the experience he was looking for.
The bosses I have worked for would have said they admired her passion, but would have sternly reiterated their perceived lack of experience on her part and told her to look elsewhere.
I feel for her and everyone else that has had to defend themselves against tone deaf hiring managers like this guy. I’ve been in Harriet’s shoes more times than I’d care to admit.
