I have to disagree with Christian, horror does not look like shit on VHS, the fuzzy soft look works very well for horror specifically. I remember watching a hellraiser documentary and the effects artists did their work in a specific way because of how it looks on analog video tape.
I'm still upgrading my DVDs to blu ray but the only movie I own that isn't on Blu Ray is Broken Lizard's Club Dread. I bought it at a local cd store for 4.99. It's one of my favorite slasher comedies.

VHS holds a special place in our hearts and it still looks good to me its feels good to watch one on a cold rainy day
Does anyone know why they haven't released a blu ray of Monster Man 2003. The dvd is oop and getting more expensive. Luckily I bought it right after I rented it from Blockbuster because the cheapest I see it for online or in some stores is $25 and I've seen it for as much as $50. I know it wasn't a popular movie but I think it's really good and very unique. Anyway I enjoy your videos
Thx man. Oh wow. I own that too. Didn’t realize it was hard to find now. I actually did hear someone was putting it out on blu ray. But then that kinda went away. Maybe it came out overseas but I kind of remember it being mentioned not to long ago.

To me there’s nothing like those SAW DVD’s. That was my childhood right there so it’s nostalgic. I just adore absolutely adore those DVD’s with the clear background and slip. Man those were so unique I hadn’t seen anything like it before when they did that stuff and as a kid it was such a cool release to own and show off to my friends at school!
Heck yes! Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. I bet you could prob score all those again for dirt cheap right now too.
@@Born2BeRad Agreed! Yeah dirt cheap. I looked into the VHS though and it’s pushing $100 online. I think it’s part the fun of going out and searching for these titles within our communities cuz it’s more fun that way when we find a gem and for a cheap price too.

Masters of Horror Season 2 box set. Theres also a dvd boxset for season 1 that is a Mausoleum that CHH just recently picked up.
Christian must've been super late going after Hardware. The non slipped Roninflix one came out late 2019, I bought it from them sometime in 2020, possibly on sale, for maybe around $20 or less. Had no idea it's now going for 200+. Probably going to get a 4k or re-release next few years from Arrow or somebody. Actually used to own the Severin release too but sold it when I read the Ronin version had a new scan.

The willies is also on a multi pack from Echo Bridge or Millcreek that’s how I have it. It’s a 10 film family movie pack.

The highlights were the red snapper cases for the Nightmare franchise, The Hills Have Eyes remake with the blood/water in the slip, the fold out chainsaw for the TCM remake, and that THICK BOY Halloween release. Great video!

The ichi the killer dvd comes with a bloodbag,sleep away camp first aid kit dvd set is fire. Wetmovie1 has shown those off.

This video was great brings back all the memories when I used to buy DVD haven't bought a DVD in years the only time I buy a DVD now is if there's no Blu-ray and absolutely need it but DVDs look like crap on my 77 Sony OLED TV so I never watched them the only one I watched recently was Blair Witch on DVD

I keep DVDs that have Open Matte format (like The Shining) as a curiosity because Bluray or 4K have another aspect ratio (widescreen or intended 16:9)

LOVE some of these old DVD releases. So cool. They were so creative with unique cool releases. Seems now they are just lazy. Or maybe it is a nice premium edition which may have "Nice" Packaging but just missing that creative really unique stuff.

My uncle did the special effects on Strangeland he said Dee was the nicest dude. Also it predates Saw; so who knows maybe it influenced James Wan.

As laughable as it may sound, some stuff really is better on VHS. Watching things like Friday the 13th 3D, Deadly Blessing, The Changeling, and The Last House on the Left on our ‘77 Sony Trinitron Console is really quite a unique viewing experience. Maybe it just adds to more of the atmosphere 🤷♀️. Same goes for watching a DVD through an early 2000’s CRT 🤌🏻 Great video guys, love when the two of you pair up!

I agree, VHS can be fun though it's largely for the cozy nostalgia trip which is cool enough and of course the odd rarity title that never made it to DVD there's still a ton of movies like that.
Opera came out from Scorpion a year or so ago. A really expensive version.

Loved the vid. I have that copy of Murder Set Pieces. Wish I also picked up the Lionsgate Cut version because it was so cheap at the time. I have the Clownhouse DVD and grabbed it from Wal-Mart. There were four copies set apart from the video section and I think it might have been in the process of being pulled. I knew it was rare already, but I only bought one. Big regret. Should probably kept a sealed one. Think they will shy away forever from releasing that. Won the MOH Mausoleum and Skull set from Deadpit was back around 2000. Slippy was giving away stuff on a trivia contest.

The dvd resurgence will come. Ive kept all my stuff and have over 30,000 titles with horror/cult being the biggest part (dvd, blu ray, 4k, etc). I remember a guy on Facebook selling tons of Anchor Bay releases and me buying 100 titles from him 5-6 years ago (many were still sealed including fat packs. I bought everything i could get from him because i knew the day would come when they would become sought after again). My #1 dvd i have i bought in 2002 for about $15 is the Anchor Bay The Midnight Hour which goes for a ton. I have so many rare and sought after titles im glad i never got rid of.
💯 man. You can see the slight rise in some of these old releases in the horror genre.
A few years back I found that I had an unopened copy of the Severin blu ray of Hardware. I was starting to drift away from movie collecting at the time it came out and must have just boxed it up with a bunch of other titles and forgot about it.

@@Born2BeRad for sure man! Love the videos and especially the dvd ones. That’s why I love buying them, you get them at tag sales for .50 to a dollar a piece and there are plenty of titles that fetch decent money now. Imagine if it gets a resurgence

A little off topic but what you were saying... How certain things look better on VHS or DVD for prosthetics. That's how I feel every time I watch My Jurassic Park 4K it's so clear that it just makes the CGI look way worse.. But when it's on VHS or DVD, The Edge blending from real life and CGI dinosaurs looks way better on SD in my opinion.

I’ve kept so much of my DVDs and have gone back and been rebuying DVDs I never had cuz the slip cover was sick, that packaging was rad as hell etc. So when I see horror I always grab if I can.

Yea they do. But I’m sure some will be lost in the shuffle because by chatting w people involved in the process. Lionsgate doesn’t even know what they have anymore.
I remember when I turned 18 in 2008 I started buying my own DVDs and some were the old Dimension Extreme label horror movies like Automaton Transfusion, Diary of the Dead, Inside, and the NOTLD 40th anniversary DVD.

It really is so strange how it all comes back . . . My husband and I stop by our town’s biggest thrift shop at least twice a week. And in the beginning of the year, while browsing their media, it became clear to both of us that the nostalgia we have for VHS was also oozing over to DVDs. Especially with the ol’ Anchor Bay and Artisan/Republic Pictures stuff. Luckily, our thrift store only charges a dime a movie (whether it be DVD, Blu-Ray, or 4K), so we’re collecting all the stuff we made the mistake of selling off for dirt cheap.

Nothing wrong with DVD at all, especially when viewed on a good Blu-ray player that upscales the image I have no complaints. Sometimes, it's actually as if the older the release is the better (albeit still anamorphic, of course), because if it's a say pre-2004 release then the unnecessary industry desire to give new color gradings hadn't fully set in yet, i.e. we got the movies as we remember them or as close to the original look as possible (pretty much the original look) not what the revisionist interns happen to favor this month.

Found a dvd special edition of Re-Animator in a box with a dried up green syringe from Anchor Bay. It’s a cool looking release, got it at a 2nd and Charles for 7 bucks the other day.

I’ve been collecting since about ‘98 and I have always sold off my previous releases when upgrading. I never understood hanging on to everything. I’ve always just focused on owning the single best release of the movies I love. I don’t have the room to collect any other way. I guess there’s two different types of physical media collectors, those who collect movies and those who collect releases. At the end of the day, they’re movies, not baseball cards.
Definitely many diff kind of collectors out there. And however you collect is how you collect. Space has a lot of factors for most people and that makes perfect sense. But couple things. “Best release” of a movie is all subjective. Some releases have features others done. Some horror purists would never want to watch an old horror movie in hd. And with anything people collect. What determines the value and importance of something is truly the passion of the fan base. For years and years people said. Why are baseball cards a thing? It’s juts cardboard. And cards went from valuable to junk in the 90s. They recently went back up in value as like we said. Things come back around for many different factors.

I gotten really big in collecting oop horror DVDs recently. I am trying to get all the Dimension extremes, Fangoria dvds and the Maneater syfy movie series, with randos in between. I found a movie at a thrift store called Love Object, crazy weird but not bad. Ever seen it? “Killer” sex doll movie, very much in the same realm at Magic with Anthony Hopkins

This was such a great video, I'm closer to Christians age so I had the exact same reaction as him every time you pulled out a cool DVD release that I have never seen. I was never a big horror collector back when i mostly collected dvd's so this video was a cool learning experience and I can't wait to find a few of these titles in the wild myself.

Yeah. That NOTLD release was sacrilegious. Russo filmed about 12 minutes of modern day footage to add to a 30 year old classic movie 🤦🏻♂️ Who does that?
I don't mind the new score, but the new scenes were pointless.
