Jake's DDT in the 80's was a true finisher, don't remember anyone getting up after that. Now wrestlers do 10 finishers in a row and they still kick out.
I LOVE these wrestling videos. I'm a new fan from this past Wrestlemania, so I appreciate your chatty way of describing WWE history. Keep up the great work!
I think the DDT becoming normal had to happen though, a lot of older finishers have become normal. Hulk hogan’s “leg drop” and ultimate warriors “splash” are also good examples of this
Shocked at the lack of Scott Hall/Razor Ramon. I agree, Owen could've been a main event face after the screw job. It was hard with Austin coming up with the momentum he had though. Also, he attacked Shawn at In Your House D-Generation X either during or after Michaels' title defense against Ken Shamrock. It always seemed odd to me that they went with Shawn vs Taker in casket match at the 98 Rumble instead of Shawn vs Owen.
Even if Booker T had beaten Triple H at WrestleMania it was for the World championship, not the WWE championship. But he has held the World Championship in WWE
Sting should have won the WWE title from Seth Rollins back in 2015 in my view because it would have made Sting one of the few wrestlers to win the World title in multiple companies & the only wrestler to hold the World title in WWE, WCW & TNA. However since Vince wanted to totally bury WCW, it didn't happen & in fact that match with Seth Rollins was Sting's final one until he debuted in AEW in 2020. At least AEW gave Sting a proper retirement run & didn't bury him like WWE did.
I think too many people win the big one these days. It's almost a prize for being there a long time. The fact that there are 2 world championship doesn't help. So many guys have world championships in WWE simple because there are 2 world titles. So many wrestlers would have never been world champions in the old days.
If you are just counting the WWE Championship, I have a couple names I'd throw in: Dolph Ziggler Chris Benoit (Yes, I know what he did) Jeff Jarrett Booker T Kevin Owens Wade Barrett Christian Razor Ramon/Scott Hall
You're right about Owen should've having won the belt at some point, but during the Montreal Screwjob time, Austin was building momentum to where it would make sense to have Michaels lose the belt to him and no one else
The closest to “The Streamer” was probably Max Moon (Konan I believe) where he briefly has these wrist launchers for them and would shoot them off from the turnbuckle
I heard the original plan was to put the belt On Ted DiBiase after WrestleMania 4. Hogan was going to do the favor for him for Dibiase doing the favor for Hogan when in came in the WWWF in 1979. They had a match and DiBiase really put him over.
"The Streamer" in this era would be some guy (or gal or other) on Twitch or other internet tube who'd come to the ring with a mic attached, possibly can headphones, a silver or platinum UA-cam plaque (as a weapon) and would interact with the fourth wall during matches thanking them for superchats.
I do think that had Vince Sr would've been able to own the company for another 10 years, Tito would've been "The Guy" after Backlund, until eventually running with Savage on top.
Can't argue with that list. For me, Owen and Hennig are 1-2, with maybe Rude as 3, but I could go with Piper. The problem was that if it wasn't Hulk Hogan hogging the title, it was usually some other showboater. In Hennig's era, it was Hogan. In Owen's, it was either The Rock, who despite his popularity was more along the lines of Hogan as an in ring performer, or the fact that he wouldn't pretend to cheat on his wife, so Vince Russo and co decided to make an example of him, leading to his demise. I completely understand that Bret Hart doesn't want WWE to own footage of his brother. Fans and their kids should be able to enjoy The Rocket/Black Hart/King of Harts' matches whenever they like without copyright issues. Everyone remembers Owen dropping the golden goose, Steve Austin on his head, but primarily, he was a phenomenal and safe wrestler. He was Bret with some of the more athletic moves that you saw in Japan in the 90s. Depending on the day, I'd go back and forth on who the greatest wrestler I ever watched was between Bret and Owen. But of course, Hennig and Piper are up there. Wrestling isn't just about showboating or even the moves. It's about telling a story in the ring. Pretty much all of my top 5 matches feature Bret. If it's not Hennig, it's Piper, or King of the Ring 1993 or WM13 with Stone Cold. It's a shame WCW couldn't book matches or that guys like Piper, Owen and Hennig didn't get their just due because of politics. Ask Ken Shamrock about that. He could have been WWF champion but was blacklisted after Bret left for being a Hart guy.
I remember watching the ppv where Owen Hart had his accident. It was such an emotional thing to happen. Owen Hart was an amazing wrestler. He just got put into the stupid blue blazer gimmick.
If Bulldog could of cut a decent promo and not have the drug issues he would of beeen champion a couple of times talk about having the look. Bam Bam could of been great. Scott Hall Sheldon Benjerman Again terrible promo. Had prime Sting would of went in 92 to 96 he would of been champion. Aleister Black, WWE really dropped the ball there he could of been the next undertaker type figure.
Vince would have made Jake put up a large bond for the belt before he would have ever given it to him. He wasn't exactly the most reliable person back in the 80's.
Mick Foley makes my list because of that last match against HHH. It would have been a perfect way to retire, but I forgot that Vince McMahon was still in charge. Gave my heart a single tear.
@@christhornycroft3686 including DDP & Sting (though in Sting's case it wasn't until he joined WWE in 2014). DDP was screwed big time when he joined WWE because instead of making him a main event star like what WCW did, they gave him that terrible stalker gimmick & a mid card feud with the Undertaker which was totally dominated by the Undertaker & killed all of DDP's main event status.
You're so right about the DDT. It was such a great finishing move. No one ever kicked out, like nowadays
William Regal would be in my list.
Perfect heel
Jake was terrifying because his voice never sounded like he was performing. He always sounded dead serious.
Roddy Piper might not have won the title, but he has one of the best movie fights in "They Live"
absolutely LOVE the wrestling content Shannon
Jake's DDT in the 80's was a true finisher, don't remember anyone getting up after that.

Loving the content on this channel lately, anything that involves wrestling is an instant click for me!😃
Same

More of this please !!!

NO SCOTT HALL? What is going on here.
Even if Booker T had beaten Triple H at WrestleMania it was for the World championship, not the WWE championship. But he has held the World Championship in WWE
This is bringing back memories of my childhood. Santana, Ricky Steamboat, Orndorff etc
Agree that had they put the belt on Owen shortly after Bret left they could have printed money.
Love your list. One other person is Rick Martel. He was a good worker and charismatic. He was mostly held back by his English ability.
King booker was world champ dude

Would be a nice to see a list of guys who should've been Intercontinental champion. I think of guys like Hakushi, Rick Martel, etc.
Owen probably wasn’t helped by the fact he severely injured Stone Cold in their IC title match. I agree he should’ve won the belt at least once.
TEG should do a crossover on The Blog Of DOOM with fellow Canadian Scott Keith

Dolph Ziggler
Chris Benoit (Yes, I know what he did)
Jeff Jarrett
Booker T
Kevin Owens
Wade Barrett
Christian
Razor Ramon/Scott Hall
Great number one pick in Owen Hart
You're right about Owen should've having won the belt at some point, but during the Montreal Screwjob time, Austin was building momentum to where it would make sense to have Michaels lose the belt to him and no one else
The closest to “The Streamer” was probably Max Moon (Konan I believe) where he briefly has these wrist launchers for them and would shoot them off from the turnbuckle
Honorable mention to one of my dad’s favorite wrestlers Jerry “The King” Lawler
Love watching 1980 WWF was fantastic time
The downfall of the DDT tarted in the late 1980s when I saw Michael Hayes or Arn Anderson started to do it.
Everything Arn did was believable. Love Double A!
I heard the original plan was to put the belt On Ted DiBiase after WrestleMania 4. Hogan was going to do the favor for him for Dibiase doing the favor for Hogan when in came in the WWWF in 1979. They had a match and DiBiase really put him over.
Another good choice in Mr Wonderful Paul Ordorff
Scott Hall / Razor Ramon should be on the list - liked Tito Santana as a kid too, but he would not make my list.

Ricky Steamboat was a great face and technical wrestler in an era of plodding giants.
Can't argue with that list. For me, Owen and Hennig are 1-2, with maybe Rude as 3, but I could go with Piper. I remember that Raw with Owen
According to Bruce Prichard, Tito was in the running to be World Champion, but they choose to give it to Bret Hart in 1992.
Rick Rude was cool even in his suit days, late 1990s.
I remember watching the ppv where Owen Hart had his accident. It was such an emotional thing to happen. Owen Hart was an amazing wrestler. He just got put into the stupid blue blazer gimmick.
Back in that era, it was difficult to take it off Hogan because he was so hot. You had to be careful how to take it off him, but they did it well.
Tito Santana was a cool dude. I loved him as a kid too! 😂
ARRIBA!
Booker T won the world title as King Booker in 2006, defeating Rey Mysterio
He never won the WWE Title though.
I thought Curt Hennig would have been a good WWE champion.
If Bulldog could of cut a decent promo and not have the drug issues he would of beeen champion a couple of times talk about having the look.
Bam Bam could of been great.
Scott Hall
Sheldon Benjerman Again terrible promo.
Had prime Sting would of went in 92 to 96 he would of been champion.
Aleister Black, WWE really dropped the ball there he could of been the next undertaker type figure.
I totally agree with Rusev. Another Eastern European vs American fued like the 1980's
You need to be tye booker in the WWE Shannon
If watchmojo titles their videos like this the "another top ten" videos would make sense
After the Tito vs Hammer match,Valentine destroyed the green belt, fantastic ending!
Razor Ramon
Dustin would have been a great champ if he hadn't been lumbered with the Goldust character.
I can tell you one who did. PNW legend Stan Stasiak and his dreaded heart punch.
Hurricane Helms, if he wasn't too powerful for a belt to contain him.
Maybe a little before your time but Mil Mascaras could do absolutely everything in the ring.
I don’t think DiBiase was ever ranked in the WWF top 10. Shocking really.
Piper may have beat Hogan, but conviently for Hogan it was a non title match
I wish Eugene won the Heavyweight Championship.
Hogan&Perfect drew 0 money according to Pritchard. When he smashed the title was the best SNME ever. RIP
Roddy Piper
Vince would have made Jake put up a large bond for the belt before he would have ever given it to him. He wasn't exactly the most reliable person back in the 80's.
Its The Hockey Guys evil twin onannhS
Razor Ramon
Shawn Michaels lost to Bret Hart in Survivor Series 1992, I do believe in a clean manner.
Before he lost his smile
Happy Rusev Day Shannon!!!!
Top 10 Dumbest Booking Decisions are always fun to talk about!
Booker t won world heavyweight championship
Rusev wtf?? 😂
Mick Foley makes my list because of that last match against HHH. It would have been a perfect way to retire, but I forgot that Vince McMahon was still in charge. Gave my heart a single tear.
Booker T held the World Heavyweight Championship, not the WWE title
He stayed with WCW until the end, so he basically got punished with a lot of talented guys.
@@christhornycroft3686 including DDP & Sting (though in Sting's case it wasn't until he joined WWE in 2014). I was a huge Goldust fan growing up, I always hoped he would win the WWF title
HHH winning that feud, with him going on pseudo racial tirades, was ridiculous! The racist heel won! 🤦♂️
Good pick with Tito Santana, who played a season with the BC Lions
