dont know if you guys cares but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf during the lockdown =)
I have the Juggs in my Fat Cat Custom Magnus which has a solid rosewood neck and mahogany body with maple top. I think my woods are too dark for such a bassy pickup. Might switch to the impulse! Good demo here!!
It’s hard to decide which one I like better. The juggernaut has a nice low end punch and chunk while the Impulse just sounds super smooth and balanced.
The Juggernauts are beefier but the Impulse cuts through and fits into a mix better in my opinion, I think the Impulses would be better for soaring leads too.
I'm more with the Impulse ! I love a good chunky mid focused Sound with an okay bassy aspect. The Juggernaut's have too much low end for my, and could sometimes sound too muddy I guess
I know this is old, but this is a great way to do pickup comparisons. The ear forgets so quickly, it’s nice to have such a fast and frequent A/B. All pickup comparisons should be done this way.
I appreciate the kind words! This the way I always wished pickup demos were done, so I did it myself. I’d like to get back into making more when I can.
hmmm they both sound great. Probably helps that you created such a great demo track for them haha. Like everyone else is saying the juggs sound so punchy but the impulse sound so open. Also, how low did you set the action on your guitar?
in the mix the juggernauts sounded a little brighter, but soloed they had too much woofy lows in my opinion. Do you know if the 6-string version and the 7-string versions are voiced the same? when going to 8-string tunings I feel like the impulse might be more suitable because northland are playing those tunings as their main ones, I know periphery have low tunings too - but they are mainly on drop c/a
I can't say which is better, to my ears, I enjoy the Impulse better, the kind of tone and output I might find useful in my setup I think... Nice review man!
Honestly, both can accomplish both ambient and metal very well. The Impulses seem to have a little more pronounced mid range character, while the Juggernaut, while still super clear, is a little fatter and thicker. The better option falls with which tonal characteristic you prefer!
I had a Juggernaut in a Jackson HT7 (Misha Signature) and one problem I had with the bridge pickup was that it felt and sounded quite bloated in the low mid and was hard to dial in different types of tones..Replaced it with a ceramic Nailbomb and it was much better for my style. More aggressive, cuts better, and way more balanced, All Shall Perish kinda tone..
I'd like to see a comparison of the Impulse set with the alnico Black Hawk set
really like that mid range growl of the impulse!
I'm with you, they cut through a mix like knife!

@Damon Luis Yea, been using InstaFlixxer for months myself :D
@Damon Luis Definitely, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself :)

Juggernauts have that gut punch I like. Impulse sound empty in the low end
They definitely have a killer low end, I'm glad you like them!

This is the best comparison I've seen of these two pickups by far! Thanks!
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you found the video helpful!
Dude you are the guy that crafts blackmachine replicas?!

Is the impulse the humbucker version or the single coil?

You switch back and forth too quickly, my Dude.
@@scottdavidson6066 some people find it helpful to hear the differences jumping back and forth at a faster pace. Sorry it wasn’t helpful for you.
I feel like the juggernaut sounds better soloed, but in a mix, the impulse seems to sit so well with so defined mids! I’m going with the impulses
Mathias Gabrielsson enjoy them man, you won’t regret it!
Producer Dudes can’t wait :)

This is exactly how comparisons should be done. BRA VO!!!!
This finally helped my decide what I want, Juggernaut all the way even though it's a hard choice
Amazing comparison video! Can't go wrong with either, but I can see why the Impulse would be a bit better suited for low tunings, less bassy....
“Get good headphones” UA-cam compresses both audio and visual. Makes zero difference.
IMPULSУ all the way!
Hey man, great compairson!
Is it possible for you to send me the DI tracks maybe? :3
What is the band and song name that is in the background during the talking piece around 7:00? Really dig it!
The band is Fever Youth, idk what the song is though

Can you tell us what song was used in the background?
Juggernaut has a better attack when you hit the single notes. I think I'd have to do more tone shaping to get the impulse to have the same effect.
I am getting juggernaut for bridge and Impulse for neck
I found the ragnarok sounded best, but it also depends on the guitar itself. maybe they're suit for different models
That's the best comparison I've ever seen dude. It's so easy to determin the differences when you switch scenes so fast.
Thanks!
how would you recommend either of these sets to a player that enjoys both ambient as well as metal music?
