This has to be my favorite scene in the entire series!
Mine too. It was such a quirky way to formally introduce The Observer who had just appeared in the background of the previous episodes. Who asks for a raw roast beef sandwich and drowns it in pepper, tabasco sauce and jalapeños before wolfing it down? I also liked how he politely leaves a twenty dollar bill underneath the empty pepper shaker while the employees and customers run out of the diner.
@@dkleener ln a later episode he explains they have almost no taste buds so they need stuff extremely spicy to taste it if I remember correctly.

@@bigfrankfraser1391 I've had the sandwich and had no problems. I regularly eat what could be classified as weapons grade spicy material... I deeply enjoy eating raw superhot peppers and use concentrated pepper extract and sauces with almost everything I eat. :)

I do remember September saying they have virtually no sense of taste hence all the pepper and tobasco I'd imagine
@@manw3bttcks there is no proof as far as I am aware. However it is heavily implied due to the phrasing when interacting with broyles "have a drink with me" as well as usually toasting in some way before drinking, broyles saying drinking water doesn't do anything for him, implying it does something for windmark seems to suggest it.
However, it could simply be consumable liquid in its purest form i.e water has become so rare that the act of drinking the liquid itself is what illicits the response. This could also be why windmark emphasizes that it does hydrate him when broyles brushes off the offer of a drink saying it doesn't do anything for him. So no proof to be had leaning one way or another as far as I am aware.
Given what they show in the last season, with Captain Windmark drinking water from a little flask like it was luxury whiskey, I'd say that September, in that scene, swallowed that sandwich helping it with a half bottle of what must have been the equivalent of vodka for him. September is a badass.
I need to order that the next time I go to a diner :D hehe

No kidding huh? lol all that tobasco sauce, not to mention the insane amount of pepper and the jalapenos would have my mouth on fire.
Hot stuff is basically the only thing that brings any sense of taste for them. They can eat normal foods, but are completely indifferent about their tastes.
his response to temperature doesn't exist in the flashback episode he dives in the icy lake to save peter and walter and doesn't even bat a eyelid I laughed at him eating the sandwich though hahahaha like how when the tremors start he changes the grip on his pen and calm as you like leaves a 20 dollar tip!
Actually there are people like me who actually exist and know that all those things are actually really mild. I eat things that are really hot like Carolina Reapers, and mace.

I want to see the behind-the-scenes for this bit because I'd love to see his reaction after taking like five bites into so many jalapenos at once. Even if they traded out that sandwich for one without the pepper and sauce, those were still peppers.

To be fair there are so many different varieties of peppers. If I can find some at the local greengrocers I assume it would be trivial for a production company to get hold of peppers that look like jalapeños but are as mild as bell peppers. The varieties number in the thousands, I have to say. This isn’t something outstanding.
Jalapenos are extremely mild... I eat superhot peppers and enjoy them.

Which is a weird oversight because they've clearly already developed their alternate symbol language, he's writing in it.

I have, to some extent. I didn't put as much black pepper on and the beef wasn't near-raw, but it was close enough and it was delicious. 10/10 would recommend.
