The summary of the episode is that the guys brain became a supercomputer that uses algorithms to predict infinite number of outcomes and then picks the best possible one based on factors such as temperature, facial expressions, movement of vehicles and people etc.

I loved this one as well. I remember watching this series back in 2014 when I believe it was still new. This one is one of my favourite episodes SAS well, together with one that included time travelling. Or more like an accidental time loop. I don't remember exactly.

I thought it was on accident, and only the older scientist in the show recognized the timeloop pattern because of the characters behavior, eventhough he himself was in that very timeloop himself. He met this person on a train I believe. And that train also changed with every clink of change in that timeloop.
Sure, if this was a regular crime procedural, which this isn't and it's not a coincidence that three people died in very similar ways.. It's a sci-fi, so normal rules don't apply. If you look at it from an objective point of view, it's pre-meditated murder because he planned it out in advance, and there's more than one victim, which mean's he a serial killer.

This is one of the best sci-fi series i have seen. It was quite ahead of its time. At that time there were not good quality VFX, graphics etc. Still it managed well to keep the interest build up for such a long seasons list.

For example, in the alternate universe this episode takes place in, the FBI doesn't exist (the FBI exists in the prime universe of Fringe, which is one of the important signals of what universe characters in the show are from). It's not realistic to feature one episode of this show, without really explaining some things first ... the mythology is too rich and dense to just willy-wacky string info together. That said, Fringe is an amazing show, so thank you for giving it some notoriety, people should really give it a watch.

Reminds me of another episode of the show alphas. A show about people that have powers. There's a bad guy that his power is this, he can easily calculate the effects actions will have, he thinks everyone can do this so any time something bad happens to him someone must have done it on purpose so he uses his power to kill others.

Fringe to this day stands out as one of the best sci-fi series i have ever watched. the channel hasn't done justice to the more complex and nuenced relation between man and science that the series portrays.
The guy is predicting futures, much like what the Observers do. The drugs and experiments are probably part of the basis for the Observers future tech.
If you fully watched the episode you would understand what is going on. His brain is like a computer that calculates algorithms therefore making it calculate multiple possible outcomes at the same time and his brain then picks the best outcome based on everything going on in the environment and also based on how people would surely react in certain situations, as the episodes progressed his capacity increased until he could no longer communicate with humans because his though process was so complex that it was only computers that could interpret what he was trying to say.

The universe in the show has areas that are damaged and require you to wear an oxygen mask to pass through. Their universe is dying and falling apart, whole city blocks are walled off to protect people from the damage.
Like Berk says, the universe that Walternate is in has areas where the atmosphere has low levels of oxygen, they are danger zones and have signs indicating the peril. Olivia, being from the other universe, was unaware of the meaning of the signs.

Well, before thinking about courts and proof about this case we, first we should know which actions are considered by the law as crimes, from the way it is written on it because " Whatever action snt prohibited by the law, means that it is permitted". So in order to know if this case is considered as a crime, and specifically as homicide or murder, we have to check if this case fits the meaning of the crime called murder as the law describes it. Checking the law, murder is discribed as" Anyone who commits (= does anything, any action) intentionally(= does this action knowing or even more aiming to make harm) homicide(= a person losing his life as a result of this intentional action), or simply "kills (= Takes the life of someone, with every possible way or means capable of such) another, gets penalty "x" years in prison. So the crime of homicide is consisted of every action that can result to death and the intention of doing so. Every crime consists of the action (corpus) and the intention (animus) and when it gets proven that one of these aspects is missing, because they werent present in the case the way the law describes them to be as such, then we dont have a crime. So putting a pencil somewhere knowing that by doing so it would trigger a series if events that usually CAN result to an accident=> death, its murder. So there is a third component of the crime not writen in the text witch is the very relation between intentional action and the result of death, and this is the common sense or knowledge that this action, will affect or will be followed by some events present in this situation, wich usually it is known or it can be proved afterwards that they conclude to the death of another person. So in other words in this specific conditions and place of events, if placing a pencil placing a pencil on a mailbox, expecting that a passing car will force it down, CAN draw the attention some guy to result in a crush with a bicycle etc, resuls to the death of a lady, almost as absolute because of the usual turning of events, it is murder, and of COURSE as long as you can prove exactly why and how the events turn this way, because you know, that the the atturney of the victim or the public prosecutor have to prove that a crime has taken place, because of the "Everyone is inocent until it is PROOVED he is guilty". Mosy likely in this case we dont have a case of murder, because its difficult to prove that he placed the pencil there with the intention or knowing this action woukd conclude ti the death of somone in comparison to other reasons and intentions from such an action. If you tried to do so though, in this turn of events, you could prove that this guy commited murder if you prove somehow that he had very good knowledge of psysics and maths so that he would have the ability to make such calculations and even present measurments of known distances, velocities, with calculations proving specificily that he could predict thst this chain of events can conclude to the death of the woman, but you cant prove somehow that he calculated the response of the guy drinking his coffee, for it seems a person he doesnt know at all, so he couldnt make any valid assumption that he can be forced this way to end up in a specific spot in the very specific time, to crush with the bicycle so that the other chain events will follow to lead to the womans death. I will advance this specific topic right away as "PROOF" . So, about PROOF, Assuming that the guy is a physics prodigy with very good sense of aerodynamics and calculation skills or something, even if he could calculate the Velocity and the distances of the car,the becicle, the bus, the position of sitting guy, the height and force of the rain drops forcing the pencil to fall etc, you defenetely cant predict a complicated behavior of a person you dont know, that he would be so interested in a fallen pencil so much that he would stand up, leave his coffee, make the rewuired specific steps in time, to the position of the crash with the bicycle. All the other values had to do with,time,velocity forces and positions knowledge witch can be known and used for further calculations of reactions, wich where allready set in motion, and thus, in usual conditions there arent any decisions to be taken in the process absent reason, wich could possibly change their course of movement, allowing him to calculate how they would react almost as absolute, by their estimating positions. But that guy was the only "value" that wasnt in motion between the series of events on flow, and thus it couldn't be any calculation more than "guy sitting in (x,y) position 0 velocity". He had to force him in the crash position as a response to the fallen pencil, wich is a result of choice. Normally a guy seeing a pencil fall, even if somehow made this specific person interested most likely wouldnt stand up at all, and even if he did, he wouldnt do it instantly, or even make the required steps at the required time to be in that specific position in order to crush with the bicycle. So because he doesnt know the way this person behaves, he couldnt make such valid assumptions, thus he could only hope that the guy would react this way and without this required behavior there would be no crush with the rider and the next chain events wouldnt happen and turn otherwise. Even more we can say that, because the "culprit" is the only one who can trigger such an accident in this situatuin, for sure he does the only necessary moves to make it happen, so missing the necessary event of the crush, it wouldnt conclude to this accident. So in this case, we probably dont have a crime, though most likely we would in case he used an object of value such as money, because we know that usually an average person would react in a way to check it up or get it, thus being in the spot in time to crush with the bicycle.

Well, before thinking about courts and proof about this case we, first we should know which actions are considered by the law as crimes, from the way it is written on it because " Whatever action snt prohibited by the law, means that it is permitted". So in order to know if this case is considered as a crime, and specifically as homicide or murder, we have to check if this case fits the meaning of the crime called murder as the law describes it.
Checking the law, murder is discribed as" Anyone who commits (= does anything, any action) intentionally(= does this action knowing or even more aiming to make harm) homicide(= a person losing his life as a result of this intentional action), or simply "kills (= Takes the life of someone, with every possible way or means capable of such) another, gets penalty "x" years in prison.
So the crime of homicide is consisted of every action that can result to death and the intention of doing so. Every crime consists of the action (corpus) and the intention (animus) and when it gets proven that one of these aspects is missing, because they werent present in the case the way the law describes them to be as such, then we dont have a crime.
So putting a pencil somewhere knowing that by doing so it would trigger a series if events that usually CAN result to an accident=> death, its murder. So there is a third component of the crime not writen in the text witch is the very relation between intentional action and the result of death, and this is the common sense or knowledge that this action, will affect or will be followed by some events present in this situation, wich usually it is known or it can be proved afterwards that they conclude to the death of another person.
So in other words in this specific conditions and place of events, if placing a pencil placing a pencil on a mailbox, expecting that a passing car will force it down, CAN draw the attention some guy to result in a crush with a bicycle etc, resuls to the death of a lady, almost as absolute because of the usual turning of events, it is murder, and of COURSE as long as you can prove exactly why and how the events turn this way, because you know, that the the atturney of the victim or the public prosecutor have to prove that a crime has taken place, because of the "Everyone is inocent until it is PROOVED he is guilty".
Mosy likely in this case we dont have a case of murder, because its difficult to prove that he placed the pencil there with the intention or knowing this action woukd conclude ti the death of somone in comparison to other reasons and intentions from such an action.
If you tried to do so though, in this turn of events, you could prove that this guy commited murder if you prove somehow that he had very good knowledge of psysics and maths so that he would have the ability to make such calculations and even present measurments of known distances, velocities, with calculations proving specificily that he could predict thst this chain of events can conclude to the death of the woman, but you cant prove somehow that he calculated the response of the guy drinking his coffee, for it seems a person he doesnt know at all, so he couldnt make any valid assumption that he can be forced this way to end up in a specific spot in the very specific time, to crush with the bicycle so that the other chain events will follow to lead to the womans death. I will advance this specific topic right away as "PROOF"

So, about PROOF, Assuming that the guy is a physics prodigy with very good sense of aerodynamics and calculation skills or something, even if he could calculate the Velocity and the distances of the car,the becicle, the bus, the position of sitting guy, the height and force of the rain drops forcing the pencil to fall etc, you defenetely cant predict a complicated behavior of a person you dont know, that he would be so interested in a fallen pencil so much that he would stand up, leave his coffee, make the rewuired specific steps in time, to the position of the crash with the bicycle. All the other values had to do with,time,velocity forces and positions knowledge witch can be known and used for further calculations of reactions, wich where allready set in motion, and thus, in usual conditions there arent any decisions to be taken in the process absent reason, wich could possibly change their course of movement, allowing him to calculate how they would react almost as absolute, by their estimating positions. But that guy was the only "value" that wasnt in motion between the series of events on flow, and thus it couldn't be any calculation more than "guy sitting in (x,y) position 0 velocity". He had to force him in the crash position as a response to the fallen pencil, wich is a result of choice.
Normally a guy seeing a pencil fall, even if somehow made this specific person interested most likely wouldnt stand up at all, and even if he did, he wouldnt do it instantly, or even make the required steps at the required time to be in that specific position in order to crush with the bicycle.
So because he doesnt know the way this person behaves, he couldnt make such valid assumptions, thus he could only hope that the guy would react this way and without this required behavior there would be no crush with the rider and the next chain events wouldnt happen and turn otherwise. Even more we can say that, because the "culprit" is the only one who can trigger such an accident in this situatuin, for sure he does the only necessary moves to make it happen, so missing the necessary event of the crush, it wouldnt conclude to this accident.
So in this case, we probably dont have a crime, though most likely we would in case he used an object of value such as money, because we know that usually an average person would react in a way to check it up or get it, thus being in the spot in time to crush with the bicycle.
