I really appreciate how Steve is explaining what every piece is, and why it's used. All while you're in the background showing off how the job is not remotely as easy as pros make it look. Always coming out with great content Nick!
Hi there glad to come over and take a watch on your video with Bedo! Glad to give you a go. We love Steve he make the shoe repair look so easy. He’s got the gift. Good job Stridewise!

Fascinating! Honestly. My father’s best friend, when I was growing up, had a shoe repair shop like this. I sure wish I would have learned this craft. It’s amazing. (And I miss Chris Dart too).
Bedo's craftsmanship and attention to detail is second to none. No matter how long the video is I watch all the way to the end. Always very satisfying. This is a great collab.
Hats off to Steve!! I had heard of using the machine and not being able to hit the same holes. Never had someone actually show it not work though!! Steve is a master foe sure! Thanks Nick for showing great content and kudos for teaming up with Bedos!!!
Thank you, Nick, for doing this video. I am saving my dinero to buy a pair of White's service boots. While some sites extol the virtues of White's sole construction, I gained a new level of appreciation just by listening to Steve's observations. Very instructive.
Quality and Craftsmanship= Bedo’s Leatherworks! I’ve been lucky to have some work done by Steve, and let me just say/agree: THE BEST show repair hands down! Great video Nick and cheers to Steve!
Whites Boots has changed something in the last few years. It seams like they all squeak. My Smoke Jumpers just had a rebuild and began squeaking in the first month. I have a friend that has taken his back multiple times and Whites can't seam to resolve the issue. I'm around at least 5 pair at work and if they were built or rebuilt in the last few years they squeak. All are the Rancher and Smoke Jumper models. Luckily in the PNW we have options with Nick's and Frank's in the same town. It's awfully frustrating with what these things cost.
That was great! We tradesmen love watching apprentices struggle the first day. Lol good job Nick. Steve you thought watching glue dry was tough, how about watching Nick work. Lol just kidding great job. Nick by the way hold the hammer at the bottom of the handle when swinging it. Another great vide guys fantastic. Let’s continue!!!!
This and the Redwing re-sole video are very good. I like seeing Nick do actual handiwork - not the vibe he gives off. A Participation Trophy is indeed earned!
Steve is like I thought we were doing a resolve on a Goodyear welted boot. Nick shows up with a nicks boot which is Blake stitched welted and stitched down and must be hand sewn. You could feel the tension in the room.
Wasn’t Nick’s started by someone who was trained and worked for White’s? I remember the day when White Boots were the only game in town and the along came all the knock offs, which may have improved on Whites or new owner ship of Whites declined. It seems like there are some Nick’s sycophants that want to perpetuate an “East Coast/West Coast” war between Nick’s and the rest of boot world, perhaps they have a secondary motivation$$? I have owned several pairs of Whites over the years and they served me well. Work boots I am referring to are ones used by timber fallers and loggers, not the casual style in this video. In the woods boot squeak cannot be heard over the noise of a chain saw.
People have made up in their minds that there's this war between Whites and Nicks and believe that Nicks is superior while pretending that Nicks has never sent out a bad boot.
My White's boots have the same squeak and it's really frustrating because otherwise they're amazing. EDIT: this inspired me to reach out to White's about repairs and they were great about it. Props to them.
Nice video. Great tutorial on how to trouble shoot a squeak. Too bad the machine stitch did not work, but you always have a solution. When the hand stitching began you were using blue and white thread, but the final product had white thread on both sides of the sole. What happened? Keep up the good work I love your videos.
I've got a pair of whites MP boots that are barely even broken in and they squeak bad enough to make me never want to wear them. I'm curious what something like this rebuild would cost. I'm hesitant to send them back to whites for a rebuild. When I first ordered them, I ran into this problem, sent it back to them, and got a call after 4 months saying that they accidentally destroyed the boots. The newly built ones are doing the same thing, and I'd rather send them off to someone that knows what they're doing.
my whites smoke jumpers squeak like crazy. i've sent in twice for fixing to no avail. i often work in sound stages and you can hear me coming from a mile away. i can no longer wear my work boots to work because of this. pretty frustrating for how much they cost and how much time i had to wait each time sending in for repair.
I watch his videos a lot, he not only works on shoes, but also handbags, leather jackets, he's done leather bible covers, I've seen a leather knife holder from him, so he does all kinds of things
@@Stridewise Oh man, I got that same one but it fitted me horribly and seemed so different to their short sleeve version which fitted me great. Almost like it was made of a different material. Also tried the Buck Mason pima henley, but that thin thing is like wearing bloody lingerie! Buck Mason had a thicker "surplus Henley", but they have stopped producing it, which is a shame cause it looked awesome. So now I have just bought the Merz B Schwarz & Freenote henley's which are pretty highly recommended, just waiting for them to be delivered now to see if I keep both or return 1/both. You should do a video on Henley reviews sometime mate. Especially with the Bond movie coming out, it seems like he is wearing his Rag & Bone henley half the damn movie from the trailer haha that thing will be sold out for years once the movie is released I bet

13:33 double hammer-time was something I didn't know I needed until now.
Steve is the best. Looks like he is now getting his beard ready for his winter side gig as Santa.
imagine you can take a picture with him and tell him your leather/boot fantasies, which he can fulfill at a cost
Steve the boot Santa
Watching Nick daintily hammer at those boots is the best content this youtube has produced.
Loved the video, keep it up.
Hahaha every time I hit them harder I'd bend them and have to start over, I could never get the angle right
So glad Steve made you work!
got my nails dirty, that's for sure
What an honor to be taught by the master 😎👍

Nothing really, the machine was set up with blue and white but hand stitching we use one thread for top a d bottom hence both sides were white
It’s hammer hammer time!

When Steve talks about the construction of the boots, it brings the Veldtschoen to mind. Anyone else think that?
Because it is
It looks more like a variant of the Norwegian construction, a kind of bentivegna.
