Really loved steve in this interview, no nonsense... "wear your boots, the creases will come back"... seriously, we wear heritage boots, these arent yeezys. creases, wrinkles, scuffs, ect all tell the story of what you are wearing, take care of them and they will patina beautifully
Yeezys don’t crease
@@SuperKickerAss isn’t that what he said?
Yess! If thats your thing, ay do you! But i dont think people new to these boots should automatically think they gotta be precious about them. Heritage fashion is rooted in longing for the days where you didn’t have to baby your stuff for it to last. Its not about your boots always being “catwalk ready” lol. If people wanna judge ya creases- let em! Haha
Can't wait for the Yeezy x Red Wing collab
Seeing Steve on another channel gives me warm fuzzy feelings.
Steve is a genius in his profession- ultimately stop being prissy about your shoes and enjoy wearing them!!!
Steve did a pair of shoes for me. The best thing I've ever done. You get what you pay for. I get more compliments on that pair than any other I wear. He is a master craftsman. Great video and I appreciate you bringing in experts to make us smarter. Very cool
that's nice of you to say Mark! Steve is like no one else, I swear he casts spells or knows some kind of leather alchemy
Steve from Bedos is one of the best voices in youtube. plus rational wise, the guy is super rational, has no agenda or propaganda
I don't know but I really the boots with creases. There's something unique about them because creases aren't the same from person to person, from one boots to another. They show journey and story behind them.
Two of my favorites together! I live how the boot/shoe community comes together in these videos!! And the those Indys are 🔥!
Great collaboration! Steve’s channel is so cathartic. I love watching him work. “Let’s continue!”
Great tips! I tried the 50/50 water alchohol solution, I applied it with a cloth and in minutes the leather became super soft and I massaged all the creases away, you still see them but they are not as obvious as before. Also put some shoe trees in them.
Steve!! I love that fact that Steve is always on point. Knows his stuff and doesn’t sugarcoat it. That’s precisely the reason no one else will touch my shoes but him!
Thumbs up for Steve!
Steve is fantastic at what he does, his work is impeccable... but, more importantly, he's a great guy.
Steve is a fuckin legend, and I'm glad to see you guys team up. Fuckin hype
That's right!!! Wear them and enjoy them!!! I love when my boot's get on the older side!!! Great video!!!
This guy speaks the truth. No fluff. I appreciate him
THE LEGEND
Love Steve and his channel. Awesome crossover vid. Thanks, boys!
Steve is a boss, nice you teamed up for video
My 2 favourite channels join forces! YESSSSS!
A well maintained beat up shoe/boot looks better than fresh out of the box most of the time
Awesome colab! Thank you gentlemen
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, the shoe trees and steam works for minimizing the creases. Learned so much from both of your channels, wealth of knowledge.
omg these collaborations
I've got 4 different guys in the next one bwahah
Steve is a true master with the awards to prove it. Though, it's not fancy trophies and plaques that keep people coming back for his work. It's his daily attention he puts into each recrafting he does.
Love the motivation.
Steve is a master. It's amazing to watch what he can do with shoes. Good interview and he's the best to gain information from IMHO.
I have been watching Bedo's channel for a long time. He made a pair of shoes out of just 2 chucks of leather from a warn-out shoe. I was like wow.
Love this Nick, a video with my favorite You Tuber, the one the only "Steveroo" from Bedo's...!! Steve is amazing and a tremendously skilled repair artist of leather goods, shoes, bags, jackets, he's amazing and I love to watch him work...! Love your video's too and great to see your corroboration with people like Steve and Trenton & Heath...!
Love both of these channels! Steve is a master craftsman when it comes to leatherworking. Can't wait to see more from this visit!
8:26 First time I've heard a rolled "R" in "thrifting"! Love it....
Dude, your videos are like a lost craft. They’re always great to watch man. Therapeutic even. Thanks bro
I appreciate that Jose! I've always wondered if anyone would think my videos fit into the 'soothing' category of shoe videos, glad at least one guy does!
Woah, nice collabo....nick got Trenton and heath, rose and now bedo?! nice work
Thank you for the information I have gained watching you on UA-cam. I've learnt alot. As someone that has taken up the hobby of reconditioning old boots, (my dr martens are 25 years old) I look be watching and learning from you two.
I’ve been watching this channel for a long time, and I don’t know how there isn’t way more subscribers. Always great content!
Isn't it brutal?? Glad you like it at least :)
Steve is awesome
Wow my favorite cobbler and boot reviewer in one video! This is awesome!
Golden Hand Steve!!!! 😁😁😁 I love that analogy and will use it 🤗
That was great!
i've started to accept the creases as part of the patina 😁
But gentlemen, please put in your boot/shoe trees, other than maintaining the shape, that thing's gonna lengthen your boot's longevity.
Your feet will sweat more than other parts of our body. Let the leather boots "rest" for a while.
Just curious, how do you detect 'loose grain' though?
That was very interesting. I myself don't mind a few creases, but I always use shoe trees. Maybe I have a little OCD, but I just can't imagine not putting shoe trees in when I take my footwear off. I enjoy the videos that you make with other interesting folks.
The perfect colab
Glad you think so
Bedo’s is right down the street from me! Always heard great things about his work, pretty cool seeing it here.
Very cool! We'll invite you over next tie
Steve is like me.
Oh look. Creases! Oh look. Patina! Let's continue!
Thanks Nick. If I have to live with wrinkles on my face I can surely deal with wrinkles on my shoes!
Steve is a shoe god !
I got some Vintage Timberland boots that have Krymp Oxide leather and i was tryin to figure out how would one condition such leather.
This is where the fun begins
Superb ! Steve is great to listen to. The dude from New Zealand has a weird accent though. I'M KEEEEEDING !
The most ambitious crossover in history
I don’t mind a few wrinkles in the vamp area. The shoes need to flex to be worn. However, I make sure I use shoe/boot trees (immediately after taking my shoes off) and conditioner, regularly, to avoid cracking the leather which is far more destructive to the shoe. I’ve never heard of heating the shoe with an iron, but it seems difficult to avoid lasting damage, so I’ll probably avoid it. Thanks, Steve, for another great video!
Damn Nick you get everywhere!
good video
Steve is awesome! I send him my shoes and boots when work is needed. Hes an awesome dude with a plethora of knowledge
he's a demigod, very lucky to hang out with him
@@Stridewise he's so busy now too. Probably at least a 2 month wait to get things back. I always tell him, no rush, i have plenty of shoes.
Maestro!
Omg, better than an MCU cross-over. My heart!
Hooray, delighted you're delighted AJ!
I enjoyed this
I use cotton socks instead of cedar or plastic shoe tress for all my shoes. They are nice on the heels
I had an issue with my Thursday boots that I do not think was very good on their part. Part of the reason they charge pennies for their boots is because the QC isn’t the same as let’s say, red wing, Grant Stone, viberg, etc.
I had a pair where the left boot had tons of grain break but the right boot was perfectly fine. All I expect is that both boots have the same grain break, not that there shouldn’t be any in the first place.
I spent just a bit more for Grant Stone diesel boots in chromexcel and they are creasing beautifully.
Do your best to avoid creases but after a point just embrace them. In my opinion, they make it look all the better and are a part of the charm like the patina.
Does this works to timberland full grain boots?
Ayye, Steve's the best.
While UA-cam had its downsides, it is great to watch artisans do their work - and Bedo's Leatherworks provides precisely exactly that for zero pounds zero pence zero dollars zero cents.
It’s the channel UA-cam needs
i noticed that with shoe trees, it causes the shoes to bulge at the tips. does that cause permanent bulges? i took my shoe trees out as soon as I see the bulge, if shown when I put in for the first time.
Thanks,
You mention here Alcohol. Is that rubbing alcohol?
STEVE!
also do let me know if the bone method works or not
Hei im first stridewise. Great videos. Im from indonesian and im new into leathergoods 🙏
love these collaboration videos
Hey thanks Basel! Glad you found this one
QUESTION: Can shoe trees have an impact on how leather footwear ages and develops a patina?
I have a couple of pairs of boots made from natural, pull-up leather. They have all been developing the same curious patina.
They are all beginning to resemble saddle shoes. The upper on the toe area and heal counter are still the original color. But, the leather part of the upper around the lace hardware and my ankle is darkening nicely.
If I press on this upper leather from the inside, the leather lightens in color to a tone that resembles the toe area.
I have begun to wonder if the pressure from the shoe trees is squeezing out the oil, which is slowing and retarding the leather from developing a patina.
I see three different types of trees on the table. I am using the trees similar to the middle pair. They have the split straight down the middle, and come from Rochester Tree Company, and the round brass knob on the heel part of the tree.
But how to choose the right shape for shoe trees ?, most of RTW /MTO leather footwears do not sell lasted shoe trees.😁
What shoe trees would you recommend for moc toe boots? I have a pair of Red Wings.
Oh, any will do! Just make em cedar
@@Stridewise thanks I found some on your website. The cheap one I have aren’t stretching the crease on these high toe boxes. I like the collaboration videos you’re doing. Keep up the good work
I put saphir on the creases of my red wing blacksmiths and it made the leather roll, now one boot has way more wrinkles than the other and it bugs me what do i do? what did i do wrong
As Steve says, wear your shoes! Clean them, condition them, but don't baby them. They are there to protect your feet at the end of the day
Nick, did you notice the arch/heel area on the outsole of your Aldens separating when you put your foot on the steps towards the end of the video? Pretty noticeable gap. Time to hand them over to Steve.
I think in his review of his Indy's he mentioned the sizable gap and how disappointed he was with it
Steve, nice mustache!
Watched at 2x playback, it was intense.
❤️
The pair of black prairie blacksmiths I recently got creased normally on one foot, but the other has one massive canyon looking crease that looks off putting. Drives me nuts
I have everyday boots, and a pair that use when I need to dress up, that way they look crisp. But I don't really care really, if I feel like using the crisp one on a motorcycle day, I just do it.
I've seen shoe guys talk about rubbing the creases with a deer bone to remove creases.
he actually talked about that! but it applies only to cordovan and we'd already talked a lot about cordovan so I cut it out to save time.
What's going on with your posture?
I have an excessively weak core, thanks Harry!
So it’s a hit or miss to get leather on the vamp which won’t have loose grain. I’ve even seen Whites with loose grain on the vamp and toe box so buying expensive shoes doesn’t guarantee they’ll cut from the best part of the hide. That sucks.
As Steve says, lighten up.
So the gist of the video, nothing can be done, just live with it.
Why do some people try to get rid of creases..I love it on my boots and especially my jeans to give a complete rugged . I don't like a boot that is too smooth with jeans.
Hi Nick. I'd love to see you do a video sometime with Dan the cobbler over in the UK . I think you guys would have a blast together . Plus I would love the accent overload . :-D
*Regarding Shoe Trees:* Has anyone experienced wear on the inside heel of their shoes as a result of using them?
I use a shoe horn to slide the shoe trees in. Seems to help.
I use cotton socks instead of shoe trees, they dont wear out the inside heels
What is Tom segura doing here?
I for one love the look of the rolls and creases in boots, because that's where the patina usually starts to happen. The only time creases look terrible, is with patent leather like you find in a lot of Doc Martens and kidskin leather that the Stacy Adams Madison cap toes are made with. Ya can't really moisturize the leather because of the coatings they use, so they eventually end up just cracking at all the creases.
Untrue! Most good leather has no unnatural coating. The era of bookbinder leather(corrected grain) is over. Good leather needs regular treatment with a good conditioner, otherwise it will crack and good bye shoes!!
Buy shell cordavan is 1000$ a pair
Can’t they just start putting tin inside the top of the leather shoes to stop them from creasing? I don’t need the flexibility lol
I see he is wearing a rolex submariner . He is doing well ! Lol
It is not a RS. He mentioned that fact in one of his videos. That doesn't mean he is not doing well, though. Cheers.
I use crease protectors in all my leather boots and shoes and it keeps the creasing in the toe box to a minimum....
Is that those arch things you put inside?
@@aurthordunne They are the polyurethane inserts that you put inside the front of your shoes. They work good in sneakers and boots. "Sneaker Shields"
@@joeflores3274 how do they feel while walking? Do they affect fit/size?
@@aurthordunne If you have a wide foot you can also cut them on the sides for more comfort. That's what I did and they feel good. My son wears them as is and he has no complaints. Their interchangeable too so you really only need one pair until they wear out.
@@aurthordunne They didn't effect sizing for me.
I have never understood the desire to get rid of, or minimise, creases.
👍👍👍👍👍👋
Wonder how Steve put up with this lightweight UA-camr
Creases are part of patina. I like creases.
Moral of the story, if you don't want to spend a little bit of money on and use shoe trees, then don't complain if your boots get a little wrinkled when your not using them.
Shoes will crease when you wear them. Let’s continue!
In order for the new shoes to not wrinkle or fold, you need to sprinkle them with WD-40 from new. Yes, the one for cars. I've been doing this for years, and no new shoe has buckled like any other shoe that I haven't sprinkled on WD-40. I recommend!
