I’ve lived in Barcelona for seven years now, and had visited the outside of Sagrada Familia maybe 100 times before finally entering it a year ago. When I eventually took a look up for the first time, I unfortunately just muttered to myself out loud “fuck fuck holy fuck, holy shit” 😂 For the first time in my life, I witnessed something truly breathtaking. All of these comments sound like exaggerations, but I can relate to them on a real level. I didn’t cry by any means, but I soaked in every moment while inside to admire the thousands of details that Gaudí had envisioned. To anyone reading this, I highly recommend taking the tower tours as well if they’re available when you go to visit.
Not only from England, Scotland, France, Iran and Montjuic comes the stone for the Sagrada Familia, also from Cantabria, Galicia, Andalusia and it is in the province of Lugo where the stone from Galicia is worked and sent to Barcelona already molded, there they were made the capitals of the central columns, with millimetric precision and many parts of the towers and stained glass windows, the Galician technology in stone work It is very advanced, sending its work to many parts of the world

1- Antoni Gaudí was arrested on Septiembre 11, during la Diada (Catalonia nacional day) for speaking Catalan and spent four hours in jail for wanting to attend a mass. We can also mention the Güell family; Eusebi Güell was one of the promoters of the "Memorial de Greuges", which initially was in catalan as "Manifesto in defense of the moral and material interests of Catalonia". 2- Since the beginning, la Sagrada Familia has been financed with contributions, donations, inheritances and in recent years mainly thanks to the incessant influx of visitors. All sources and funds obtained are private without participation of the public administration... How does it has related to Spain, the spanish nationalism or the spaniards? 3- Sagrada Familia Beng in Spain, could be explained as an "accidental" matter, because spanish government didn't intervene in its ideological, religious or architectonical conception or in its financing. 4- It is a cathedral. Christianity is ecumenical and universal, the Sagrada Familia is above all a religious monument, let's leave politics aside.😅

Do you know that in northern France, during the spread of the gothic style in the 13th century, in a town called Beauvais, you can still visit the highest church ever build? Its roof can contain a 13 storey building inside. And in spite of the immense cost, the cathedral wasn't ever completed. But the interesting fact is: it had the tallest gothic tower in Europe, reaching the astounding 176m. Then it collapsed 20 years later during a storm, and they rebuilt a 155m spire on the cross. Eventually, even the second spire collapsed after being hit by a lightning, so they had to stabilise the rest of the building. It was mind-blowing, considered that America wasn't even discovered during the construction of that building. Today St Pierre cathedral is known as the symbol of french high Gothic style and set a standard that centuries later even the Sagrada familia is struggling to achieve, using cranes, modern machineries and concrete. Every Cristian should visit St Pierre, the ruins are nothing short than spectacular and a strong testament to the strong faith of the town of Beauvais ❤ Even if I'm Italian and we have huge cathedrals here too, the completion of the St Pierre cathedral would have been insane. The estimated cost would be really high, almost five times the cost of restoring Notre Dame in Paris😢
I looked it up. Interesting history behind it but it's ugly and depressing like most churches. Sagrada Familia is different. It has a unique vibe of potential, optimism and possibilities rather than the gothic imposing style that make you feel small and depressed.

"But if pride wants to erect a tower of vanity within me without the foundation of a solid rock, and if that tower must become higher and higher than other towers around me, alas, who will come to my aid?" Hildegard von Bingen
The Cathedral Basilic of my city has 1.000 years , my city more than 2.000 were Heritage Human , including my University with only 800 years old . It’s normal . Granite and good construction.
Never since seen style is a little far from truth. He worked in organic style but there were multiple great architects in that style for example Imre Makovecz.
And like we have seen all thru history with the massive churches- the money runs out, maintenance is curtailed and then cut, stone starts cracking and falling off, roofs leak, and then the city winds up stuck with them after the congregation abandons the building. With this monstrosity, every time some repair or maint is needed up top they will have to construct expensive scaffolding and hire cranes. LOL "Earthquake proof towers" sounds alot like the "Unsinkable Titanic" to me...
It will be 11 meters taller than the Ulm cathedral that is the taller now so yes, it will be the tallest this year 2026 they just finishing the tower. Cry about it
@ I live in barcelona just 5 minutes walking from sagrada familia and this documentary is old, the the 5 towers are already done and the last one is finished this year. Keep crying
This makes me think of the emperors new clothes story. Everyone is lauding the beauty of this monstrosity of modern “art.” Go to nearby barcelona cathedral to see what Catholic art could really look like.
Funny you say that because that cathedral is not an example of anything, it was built basically at the end of the XIX century by a romanticized nationalism, copying oldest styles in a very bad way. You could have mentioned Burgos cathedral and maybe you would have had a point.
Burgos is also extremely beautiful. I mean, every Spanish city has beautiful churches. Why praise the ugliest of them all? Barcelona cathedral, at least, has beauty, order, style & gorgeous art. The sagrada familia has multiple style art(the oldest on the backside being decently good) and the most modern stuff is wretchedly chaotic and twisted in a most ugly form of “sculpture.” A communist would be pleased with the art form.

So many people are seduced by the story, the size, the tourist attraction, and don't see the enormous ugliness of this monstruous and pretentious building, that in its expression has nothing related to Christianity - the building 'reads' like satire. The eclectic components don't blend, are mutually exclusive, the proportions are all dissonant and don't answer mathematical integration and 'nesting', etc. etc. and the fin-de-siècle aesthetics are remarkably repulsive for anyone with a residu of taste. Only subjective reaction? Just compare it with real churches and try to understand the underlying dynamics of the structures... like the great European cathedrals, or even the renaissance or baroque churches like St Pauls, St Pieter's basilica, or - something entirely different the Hagia Sophia or Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Gaudi's absurd design falls lamentably short in terms of aesthetics, expression, structure, proportion, execution. It is a very expensive and useless flop.
Over the years, several companies have offered to sponsor its completion. It has never been accepted. It must be finished as Gaudí wanted. With donations tickets or whatever. He said, my client is God And he does not rush you
I was in Barcelona two weeks ago. I thank all those involved in the construction of this work. One thing interests me. The streets are full of immigrants - and here at the construction site there is not one. Interesting. DEI does not work in this case? Where are the engineers from Africa? 😂
It took soooo long to build this magnificent church and now you’re rushing things by introducing steel?!?! Doesn’t make sense does it… This church was meant to be standing there for thousands of years, hence the idea to build it with stone only..!! Now you’re introducing steel structures (that has a life span of 50+/- years when not maintained) to the towers in the center of the church and at its highest point, a death blow in my opinion!!! When nobody’s maintaining the steel sometime in the future the steel will crumble and the rest of the towers will collapse and be taking the rest of the building with them…!!! Just the opposite of what Gaudi intended for this church..!! After all this time spent to build it there was no need to rush things now in order to save time!!!
The dome of St Peter in Rome built in 1590 was in so much in danger of failing that in 1750 six rows of iron bands were tied around the base of the dome to preserve it against collapse. The dome of St Mark in Venice had been similarly reinforced in 1523. These have held it up for more 250 years. so I think adequate precedent for use of something other than brick and stone in cathedrals has been well established, particularly in the period contemporary with Gaudi. The increasing extensive use of iron and steel in the construction of cathedrals in the 19th century is nicely discussed in an article by Herbert Eller titled "The iron structures of the roof o frame and central tower of Cologne Cathedral" which can be easily found by internet search
Sagrada is paid by itself with ticketing and donations and thats why its still on construction. No church or public money was never put on it so if it wasnt for being a tourist attraction it would not be able to be paid and finished.
Sagrada Familia is just under 150 feet high... Beauvais , the highest Gothic nave , is just over 150 feet high... Gaudi respects his mediaeval masters... Nice
Related with that, Gaudí famously said that the Sagrada Família should not be taller than Montjuïc (the taller of Barcelona's hills), cause humans can not surpass God's creation (nature).
Why? It's just a bunch of empty space. I'm just speaking from a practical perspective. People use emotion to bypass usefulness. Just think of all the people that could have been helped with the money used in going overboard on trying to be better than other churches. I'm pretty sure God couldn't care less about people being impressed with a building.
There is no money spent, the money is generated by the temple (for the tickets), if there is no temple there is no money. I agree with God, but not with the issue of money, since Gaudí said that he should not receive money from the public or any institution.
Why?. Spend that money on the poor and homeless. You don't need to build to heaven. God can see abd hear you close to the vround. What a waste of money and time.
Sagrada familia construction is payed just by donations and since tourism became a big thing in the city also the entrance ticketing thats the reason its still in construction after 140 years. The construction has been on stand by many times back in the xx century by lack of money. No public money was never put on it.

Unusual, but beautiful ? No, Disneyland type building 🤷🏰

So beautiful
Could do without the annoying background music. But otherwise, great video,
What about earthquakes or high winds?
Spain is completely safe because there are no earthquake. Because lack of fault line and there are no signs of earthquake many years.
The Cathedral Basilic of my city has 1.000 years , my city more than 2.000 were Heritage Human , including my University with only 800 years old . It’s normal . Granite and good construction.
New and old never match.
Never since seen style is a little far from truth. He worked in organic style but there were multiple great architects in that style for example Imre Makovecz.
🇵🇹viva Portugal sempre.
The Sagrada Familia needs MORE SPIRES... More GEE-GAWS...s/
👍
And like we have seen all thru history with the massive churches- the money runs out, maintenance is curtailed and then cut, stone starts cracking and falling off, roofs leak, and then the city winds up stuck with them after the congregation abandons the building.
With this monstrosity, every time some repair or maint is needed up top they will have to construct expensive scaffolding and hire cranes.
LOL "Earthquake proof towers" sounds alot like the "Unsinkable Titanic" to me...
Terrible, yes terrible editing
2 second shots
Jumping jumping around
get dizzy
that's all
It’s not the tallest church!
It wants to be when it’s finished.
But till then, it’s not the tallest!
And I doubt it will be then!
It will be 11 meters taller than the Ulm cathedral that is the taller now so yes, it will be the tallest this year 2026 they just finishing the tower. Cry about it
@ will be! Not now! Can’t you read? People predict much, and often fail
@ I live in barcelona just 5 minutes walking from sagrada familia and this documentary is old, the the 5 towers are already done and the last one is finished this year. Keep crying
@ You’re crying about my comment. Still you say nothing new
@ you live 5 min away? Sorry I hurt your feelings 😂
No hairline fractures???
Great moseum
And still they’ll walk around with that goddamn collection plate😂
Modular construction, CNC machines , prefabrication , CAD...
Burgos 🤣🤣🤣
Not high enough!
It's not a church, it's a basilica.
Amazing Engineering To The Glory Of G~d In Gratitude Of Our Salvation Given By Christ~Yeshua Through No Efforts Of Our Own.. kdagPlymouthUK. 2025Jan1st1624hrGMT
My beautiful Catholic. In the faith of the Catholic church, we can build the next Church of such marvel in Asia and Africa.
Tourism
Did that guy just say they are building it with one millimeter tolerance 😂. Please don’t make me laugh
It is a very expensive and useless flop.
of course its being completed for tourism money, not for the church.
and funded by tourism money by the way
How much do you think this costs? ...and maintenance?
Over the years, several companies have offered to sponsor its completion. It has never been accepted. It must be finished as Gaudí wanted. With donations tickets or whatever. He said, my client is God And he does not rush you
Nice catholic church. Unfortunately Barcelona is becoming more muslim every day and it is losing its identity.
WHY...Don't WE start buiding a SPACESHIP to travel ???inted of spending on this?????
I was in Barcelona two weeks ago. I thank all those involved in the construction of this work. One thing interests me. The streets are full of immigrants - and here at the construction site there is not one. Interesting. DEI does not work in this case? Where are the engineers from Africa? 😂
Are you saying they are racists? Because there's no need to find excuses if that's what you want to say.
@framegrace1 I'm saying that immigrants don't make your place better. They are not qualified. Unable to do such work.
better that way, we don't need those doctors and engineers destroying our beautiful art.
It took soooo long to build this magnificent church and now you’re rushing things by introducing steel?!?!
Doesn’t make sense does it…
This church was meant to be standing there for thousands of years, hence the idea to build it with stone only..!!
I kind of agree but it is not iron rods locking the thing but stainless steel so I suppose it is way longer lived
They didn't earthquake-proof buildings when this one was started.
Ignorant Protestant fanatic detected.
I thought the same until i heard they are using stainless steel. A good quality stainless steel should have a durability measured in centuries.
Sorry for spending money on a church at this day. To be honest is just a tourist attraction now.
Soulless
Sagrada is paid by itself with ticketing and donations and thats why its still on construction. No church or public money was never put on it so if it wasnt for being a tourist attraction it would not be able to be paid and finished.
There's a point at witch there's simply too much going on and it looks horrendous, that is the state of that church.
@@pizzaipinya2442simply beauty
@lauce3998 good to know
Hideous looking thing!
Creepy. The church is the most deadly place many people will encounter.
I agree, it looks very creepy and not holy in my opinion..
Disagree. It looks like a living structure. Not creepy at all

Didn't mean a thing just only a piece of art, because it didn't Glorify God and Jesus the Doesn't in it,He live in a believer's hearts
and would you scoff at your son or daughter building you a good looking house, sometimes you need try to see the good in what people do, your faith means nothing if you look at things negatively, innit?
You need a new pair of eyes AND a new brain.... don't be blinded with religion or God....
Not true, Jesus is also present in the bread and wine when the priest consecrates it in communion
Oh 👍

It's a symbol to the unlimited greed of the money machine and the authoritarian rule of the oligarchy that owns it.
I think you mean to say the largest charity organization in the world adn the largest non-governmental provider of health care and education in the world, which established the modern systems of education and health care systems. The single largest institution for the transfer of wealth from the rich to the poor
i'm sorry but imo its one of the ugliest church ever
Pure waste.
Thits monolithic church will be sold . within two years to Muslims groups as as appeasement ,
