VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
On the 8th of June 2022, the Reserve Bank of India officially allowed users to link their credit cards to all UPI platforms. This means within some days if you if own a Rupay credit card and a mobile phone you could make your credit card transactions through your UPI app without using your credit card at all!! And as soon as this announcement happened, it became such a sensation that every single news channel and every single newspaper lauded the NPCI about how revolutionary this move is!!
and this move is so big that on one hand, it could redefine the entire credit market of India on the other side, it is a big threat to even Giant companies like VISA and Master card
The question is?
Why is the UPI linking the Credit card system such a revolution for the people of India?
How will it change the lives of people like you me and the 1000s of small businesses all across the country?
and most importantly, why is it yet another lethal threat to Giant companies like Visa and Master card!

U missed one imp thing... By breaking vsa and mastercard backbone we are removing our dependency on the 2 American companies.. Hence if tomorrow America decides to shut down visa and mastercard services in India as a part of sanctions it will have minimal effect on India... America will not be able to stop transactions happening in India... This is a huge thing
Yes it is a very good point.
I'm a American and personally this seems to be a good thing for India. I've never been a big fan of globalization and companies having way to much control over so many people.
@@DaFunkler-gp6ie I feel globalisation is good as long as it helps in respecting, Learning and helping each other out.. More of a people to people contact... It becomes a problem when the globalisation is used for control over others.. Be it colonisation in olden times or the industries of today's world.. For example.. UA-cam is helping me from India and u from America to exchange each other's opinions and understand one another's perspective but when youtube tries to block certain comments or videos that do not fit their agenda without providing any satisfactory explanation, there UA-cam is controlling the narrative and preventing one point of view to be presented.. That's where the problem lies
@@somnath1235 I actually agree with you, globalization has done some really good things. But one of the big issues of globalization is that it leaves poorer nations that need constant importing really vulnerable. The importing nation needs to agree to exporting nations terms and conditions of trading. Perhaps the exporting nation collapses, it would leave the importing nation in a sticky situation. But like what you said it has brought very good things such as communication such as right now which reminds me, the discoverer of wireless communication was Indian "Jagadish Chandra Bose" which was later developed by an Italian named Guglielmo Marconi and through countries opening them selves up to the world for the pass 100 years it has helped advance all forms of communication. Without globalization I would have never been able to hear about this youtube channel. It has its cons and most definitely has its pros.
@@DaFunkler-gp6ie very true..same aspect can be used positively as well as negatively.. To put it down to simple words.. Intention is all that matters.. U can use a fire and a knife to cook food and help a hungry person or use them to kill a person.. And I was pleasantly surprised u knew about the existence of Jagdeesh Chandra Bose.. 👍

The entire Western countries are now struggling to push their own upi systems to public since people are so used to master card and visa card payments. Proud that India has made this strategic move protecting the largest Indian economy being exploited by the card giants like Master card and Visa at the very beginning of the system.

You know it's hard to look at the big picture when it comes to India. Everywhere you go there's mostly just crowd and chaos. It's when videos like these summarise things so wonderfully, you can see what an incredible turn around our country has made within 75 years of Independence. The generation born right before 1947 is very much alive at this point and gets to witness India's days of post Independence poverty and struggle to becoming a direct competitor to the west. Oh how the turntables
Being an UPI user for over many years an seeing through all this changes in finance sector, I firmly believe with you and your team that if your suggested measures implied then it can benifit most ( reference to Bangladesh video of microfinance )
Great video.
All the best for your team
Even though there are ups and downs in economy right now I think this govt still deserves one more chance bcz after this govt came to power they faced a lot of challenges and domestically and geopolitically which the previous govt did not face
Ups and Downs are due to uncontrollable situations happening across the globe. Just look around.
US is in recession & we will be growing at approx 7-8%. Inflation is mostly due to faulty policies of US constraining the oil sources causing inflation across the world.
Just look at way they are controlling the inflation..we are far ahead than US and European countries in maintaining inflation
One more chance? It deserves 100 more chances to transform India. No dynasty no commie government anymore. Nation first, always.
Excellent description, discussion, and opinions!

Such an amazing video Think School. Hardly anyone is able to teach these things in this simple manner without losing on the content as well the interest. You will go a long long way!
Thanks for a very informative video! 👍
Terrific. Beautiful explanation .. UPI itself is a game-changer. Now linking it to a Credit card is simply a blast .. A small MDR % of say 0.05% or even less will go a long way .. For a transaction of Rs 100, -- nobody will bother to pay an MDR of Rs 0.1 ( 10 Paise). This can be slowly increased to say 0. 5% in due course ( like what they did on Security transaction TAx STT ).. But this is a game changer -- thanks to NPCI == Major risk factor is govt change .. before that NPCI has to be totally Privatized like ICICI bank ( which was initially Govt owned )
Giving time stamp and suggesting viewers to skip video ... You earned respect man
This video leaves out a very critical aspect of Credit card business
The major chunk of revenues for Credit Cards is the revolver customers who pay interest on their credit card purchases. MDR and annual fee are small proportion of pie
Why did govt start Rupay card network when Visa, MasterCard were already there? Because with 3% MDR rate, the bottom 90% of Indians wont be served...at such high transaction costs. Yes merchants/businesses pay this 3% charge..but who are they ultimately going to charge this from? Lower MDR is win for Indian consumer
When Rupay can operate at lower MDR rates, why not the foreign card networks do it at a lower price? Especially when economies of scale keep on growing?
what an imformative channel! KUDOS .... huge appreciation.
Dude. This Content is basically free. Wow 👏
The banks' risk is very much compensated for by the massive interest on late payments for credit cards. I can completely agree on the switching fee for card network providers (but it's not gigantic sums of money; maybe when they first started - should be simple with all the internet infrastructure nowadays)

When UPI started, I began using the system. It is the most easiest, convenient system I have or we have ever used. Just a registered id needed, and enter pin, and boom ...payment done. I really love the idea which is changing the patterns in Indian Economy. For several months from the very starting point, I have been using only UPI and Paytm. 🔥
Is Paytm n UPI are 2 different thing?
@@anoopjaiswal7969 Paytm offers several ways to pay, also a market place, and offers banking facility.
Upi is related to your registered mobile number related to your bank. One password, mobile number can be used to pay through any wallet app, without fees. This helps in scan and put password and pay. Simple design.
And in card system, card details need to be added, then pin, otp, and payment done. Also cards want charges later
They need to take MDR from paying customer who is paying through UPI via credit card. This way the rich class won't mind for paying a service charge and the small businesses won't incur any losses and Govt won't have to take a burden.
Ofcourse they take it from the customer!! What do you think they pay it from h their profits?? The margin for MDR is included in the MRP.
@@abhishekgiri1201 But we can't let our banks face unnecessary losses.
The interchange fee they charge will stop if there's zero MDR.

The amount spent on Credit card can also be linked to E-commerce offer, where in I can shop for thousands and pay in emi. Doing same on Debit card would be less preferred .
Also Credit cards gives more time to pay for a transaction, instead of paying today, i can pay 30 days later.
so that might be the reason why people would prefer spending more in credit rather than debit. (at least for me these are the reasons)
Credit cards give you a false sense of financial freedom. We fail to treat credit cards as loans and end up treating them as our own money. That's why we always end up spending more when using a credit card

Indian banks and RuPay could come up with some limits on credit card transactions which could be insured. Or the merchants should provide more incentives with debit card payments instead of credit card payments. One has to be rich to have a credit card and a vast majority of people using credit cards already have sufficient balance to use a debit card instead. Most use credit cards just for fun and to show off or use it while traveling abroad.
