  • Here I want to share 5 very important lessons for everyone who works with or makes decisions based on data.
The quotes are taken from the book "Factfulness: Reasons We're Wrong About the World, and Why Things Are Better Than You Think"
Book by Anna Rosling Rönnlund, Hans Rosling, and Ola Rosling.
Some TED talks by Hans Rosling:
    • The best stats you've ...
    • How not to be ignorant...
Also, check out their initiative to educate the world about the common misconceptions in worldviews.

00:00 The world is not as dramatic as we think it is
02:39 Avoid lonely numbers. Compare and show numbers in perspective
05:58 Numbers alone can't explain the world
07:47 Why do we like to blame individuals instead of systems
09:57 Why do we think of some people as heroes
11:08 A long jumper is not allowed to measure her own jumps
12:27 Only relevant and accurate data is useful

This reminds of “Better Angels of Our Nature” book where the author discusses all the reasons why violence in the world is declining rapidly and how we can make small changes that would snowball intro something meaningful :) I especially liked “numbers alone can’t explain the world” as it reminded me of NASA’s case where the numbers indicating probability of failure were inconclusive and did not give enough reason to halt the launch, leading to a tragic outcome. Following this, a new shift in the approach, that emphasized a more human and thorough review process, coupled with data, allowed for prevention of future tragedies - I read this in detail in a book called Range. Recommend both of these for reading, and thank you for reviewing this book, will check it out :)

Thanks for the video! I work with data here in Brazil, and I see people making bad decisions just because "the numbers say", without comparing numbers or considering others variables.

I just received this book and watching you talk about some nuggets from it, I sincerely feel this is going to be an eye-opening journey reading it because looking from here it absolutely goes against some of my own misconception about everything that's happening nowadays in some sense. The timing is perfect and thanks so much for this and I look forward to learning more about data and life. Cheers! 🤓

Thank you for sharing! I work as a Decision Architect for a telco over in the US and we becoming increasingly involved with sharing data-driven insights with our partners and stakeholders that help drive business strategy. What you shared already gave me some insight into how we should be presenting data to others and I’m definitely taking this back to my team. I’m ordering the book today!

I really liked your review. The book Is really interesting. I read it some months ago during the lockdown in Italy. I needed a positive perspective of the word.
The book has some analytical limits but It deservers to have so much positive reviews.
P.s in the book there are 13 questions... one of them Is a "cherry picking".

Hi Anastasia! Hope you are doing well. I wanted to know as a fresher, what should be the basic position that one should start working in as to build a career step wise and grow in this field and not only focus on ML or AI? If you could help me on that.

Depends what your goals are :) usually Junior Data Scientist in a company with medium to advanced data literacy covers a lot of areas.

@@AnastasiaKVL so tell me one thing, at present I have and still gaining knowledge about python including basics, numpy, pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, basics of stats including descriptive & inferential and this will continue to be in details till my PG is completed, upon this I don't have any practical experience on this domain, whereas I will be working on some capstone projects during this PG course. So will it be enough with academia knowledge to get a basic data analyst or junior data scientist job? And what can be the range of the pay scale if so in that case? Really appreciate if you could help out with this information.
