Unironically Sonic Heroes was the first ever Sonic game I played. I knew about Sonic but never understood the appeal until I played this at my Nana’s place. After that I just loved the series and upon reading and understanding the lore and characters my love for the series has grown more despite the iffy world building of the games at least. So yeah this little game has a soft spot in my heart.

I also have the PS2 version and I honestly enjoy it despite it’s flaws, but that might be nostalgia. Lost the game 4 separate times, never completed the game fully (as in beat the Final Story) and the Chaos Emeralds are infuriating to collect, but I will always hold this game near and dear to my heart. to me, it's Silent Hill. Specifically SH: Shattered Memories (and on PS2 on top of that). People said that SH:SM is one of the sub-par SH games and the PS2 port is bad. But it's my first SH game and without any knowledge of prior SH games, i think the game was creepy but also emotional. The game wasn't that scary but it can really set the atmosphere really well. I think the game and whole SH franchise (and also Fatal Frame series) was the reason i love abandoned buildings and cities aesthetic. I used to be intrigued with abandoned or unfinished building in my city when i was a kid. i also subscribed to numerous yt channel documenting dead malls and abandoned sites to relive those SH moments

snapcube playing my FAVE sonic game... (of the 2 and a half ive played lol) also i played the ps2 version on an emulator and BEAT It only minorly cheating (by making it so i didnt have to replay bingo highway over and over to get the third emerald bc i got sick of it by saving the spot via the emulator) ps if anyone wants to get the emeralds just stay on the ceiling.. and if it doesnt work for the third emerald play as the power character....... those emerald stages are rough lmao

@@ellagage1256 The controls are imprecise, some of the levels lack any real direction (Team Dark's Rail Canyon, anyone?), getting to the special stage is straight up frustrating for anyone other than Team Rose, the special stages themselves are absolute garbage, Team Chaotix gets some points for being unique, but that's literally it, points for doing something different but the different is pretty garbage... Do I need to continue? As for the moveset not being straight up broken... you can do pretty much 90-95% of every stage as Power Formation. Speed is never really needed and flight is only needed when you need to fly and beyond that... yeah.
@@ShadowdaHedgie11 "Speed is never really needed" except for tornado poles, homing attack chains, light dashing, or cannon formations... listen I can agree with a lot of your points but honestly what pisses me off about your original comment is implying there are genuinely no positives to the game's design choices... or the fact that you come off like you haven't played the game in years which would be fine if you didn't act like an objective A-hole about it Speed characters are the only ones that can really beat the entire level themselves because Rocket Accel and Tornados give them a lot of versatility like the Spin Dash and Bounce from SA2, Except Blue/Black Tornado are way better than the Bounce since you can use it in midair, gain another jump out of it and can even use the Tornado to launch yourself up towards higher enemies. The flexibility they bring makes them great for going fast in a lot of places if the player has the skill to use them right. Unfortunately Amy and Espio don't have the cooler, more flexible tornado move but Amy can launch hers like projectiles from a distance and has a unique Hammer Glide. Espio can obviously turn invisible using his tornado on top of the ranged throwables, But I guess the characters are just the exact same and not comparable to the previous entry SA2 at all right? Besides helping you not fall to your death, Flight is weirdly better at performing long level skips like on the rail sections or when used in tandem with the speed boost from Rocket Accel, giving them a lot of horizontal freedom in the way you can approach each stage, which are already designed to be more open-ended which was personally a breath of fresh air coming from SA2's speed stages. Also if you got lost in Rail Canyon as Team Dark despite all the massive arrows littered everywhere pointing you where to go... that sounds like a you issue. Better yet you could have just skipped some sections if you were actually paying attention and used each type's strengths Speaking of strength, Power types have temporary I-frames when performing certain attacks so holding onto keys is a little easier alongside their safe ranged attacks. The AoE attacks they have make chaining combo points quick and easy, and can make a huge difference in bumping your fast time from a C rank to a A rank. Also their glide ability can inherit the momentum from rails and Rocket Accel so you can still travel far distances like before. Plus Big and Vector's slam moves can let you instantly run at top speed by just switching to the speed characters after performing it, giving them just a better "Boost Formula" Stomp. All of that is on top of Team Blast which have unique benefits for each team. Team Sonic gets access to the Light Speed Attack and can let you do even more skips in certain areas. Team Dark can freeze time which is great for their longer levels but is also the most difficult and punishing when used in the wrong spot. Team Rose get a free shield, a level up for each member and temporary invincibility. Team Chaotix can turn enemies into rings which makes looping their Team Blast a lot easier Like most Sonic games you can get to the end without going off of the "main path" but they usually rewarded memorization, experimentation and good reaction times with being able to take a faster or easier path. All of those things are present in Sonic Heroes, and the fact that your main problem seems to be the game's level/character design makes me think you wanted something more like SA2 or Sonic 06 with characters just having their own restricted area to do their thing, rather than letting them use their abilities in the same area as every other character and letting the player experiment with how they traverse the level. I actually find it to be a strength of the game with how flexible you can approach each section. Just because Sonic Heroes doesn't always force you to play as a certain type, doesn't mean it isn't encouraging you to figure out what type is the fastest, or most optimal for each section But hey this game has like... no good qualities right? Nothing unique that would stick with Sonic fans for the rest of their lives? 🙂
