    curious of all the hardness test which ones are the numbers corresponding to the ratings on concrete bags , wood boards , and other materials. I get how to compute these tests and how the testing tools are designed from a high level. What i don't get is which ones are the actual ratings on materials a contractor purchases and a structural engineer uses to compute safe loads on things. Most of the hardness test is just to distinguish how much hard an object is in relation to another object which is good for some but not good enough for structural engineers

    Rockwell hardness test uses a conical diamond indentor with 150 kg load for HRC and 1/16" steel or WC ball indentor for HRB. Please teach correctly.

      @@coolvigu but in most cases we just make a slight indentation right ? So the material can be used for the future purpose . We do not fail the material

    • @coolvigu
      @coolvigu  4 роки тому

      Yes but as we have made the indentation, that spot will act as a weak spot

      Brinell hardness no longer uses hardened steel balls. Only tungsten carbide balls are used. Also it is not only 10mm ball, even 5mm and 2.5mm balls are used.
