For officer safety purposes you have the subject keep their hands out of their pockets. I've actually seen someone take a Swiss army knife with a tiny 2 inch blade and stick it straight into the heart of another person who died instantly. That's how we work. You keep your hands out of your pockets. You can say all you want you ain't got nothing. That is until you pull an edged weapon out with a razor sharp blade on it like they did when they took over the planes on 9/11 - a box opener - and slit my throat. When looking at the registration numbers on the vessel how are you going to know if they're legit if the boat captain won't show you the registration as required by law? This Captain brought more hate on him than maybe he deserved. He could have stopped it just by showing his registration and been done with it. " I was reaching for my driver's license..." only after the handcuffs were going on. Looking at an objectively, there was something going on with the individual on that boat and that he would not make direct contact with the officer and would not follow directions given to him. He seemed hesitant about contact being made with him. That would spark my curiosity as well. If you don't have anything to hide, don't act like you're trying to hide something.

Operating a boat is a bit different than driving a car. You can be inspected at any time (for no reason) while acting as "captain" of a boat. Dude could have given his driver's license to the officer, then enjoyed a fun day on his boat after likely receiving a written warning for not having his registration on board. Boat guy was obviously not the sharpest crayon in the box.

@@SARDOGFL Folks drive / boat without reg all the time. For autos, the reg sticker is usually affixed to the windshield. Additionally, LEOs can verify the doc internally via the database. Here, the reg sticker was affixed to the boat legally. FWC officer could have simply verified the doc. The resisting will probably get dropped. As officer gave him no warning that he would be arrested before jumping on the boat and attempting to restrain the man. He's 60 -- and MAYBE his reaction time was a bit slow to respond to physical encroachment by the officer. IN any event, even if I agreed with you, once LEO verified all his info, he certainly didn't have to cart the man off to jail. That was ridiculous.

Believe it or not that piece of paper is nothing more than a money grab and a database to get folks info so in the event of they can come kick your door down and take you to jail just because they think they can and all they need is suspicion of a crime and make up some sort of exigent circumstance to do it. Happens all the time. I have personally been apart of a similar case like what I described and it got squashed quickly once all the evidence I had was presented.

If you know your stuff ole FWC gets schooled and sent packing 100% of the time. Have had multiple run ins with them and it's always a good laugh sending them on their way. I do the same thing here in georgia as well. The few cases that went to court were dropped almost immediately. I've seen them use it when, for example, a driver doesn't have a license in his possession, a reg card in his possession, or insurance in his possession. All these docs can be verified by police and pigs can also determine if they are all up to date -- not expired... so all this bootlick talk about what you SHOULD have when driving or boating doesn't mean sh*t when we all know PIGS have access to verify.

USCG and most states do not require an officer to have reasonable suspicion of a crime in order to stop and carry out safety and violation inspection on a motorized vessel. They can stop a boat on the water at anytime and require proof of registration, life jackets, throwable, horn, etc etc and they must be shown. So he legally had every right to ask for his registration and then license. This dude obstructed by not providing. Fair or not the LEO had every right to do what he did. Dude didn’t comply at all until he knew he was in trouble.

From what I saw, the DNR didn't even verify the boat belonged to that man. It could have been someone sitting there, waiting on the owner.
True but he made references towards the boat being his and the stickers being proof of registration and that he didn’t need to have papers. This DNR officer definitely went fishing for a violation but it still is a violation. That’s their job unfortunately. I want to imagine this case could be dismissed with ease.

Usually it is sold and they take the profit before you can get it back. It’s used all the time by the government. They will say the boat could have been used for drug dealing.

The bottom line here is, it didn't have to go this far. But like always did not get the attitude they like to have giving to them. This is an old timer who basically doesn't have the time for BS and silly questions. So he gives FWC a little attitude. And then of course, the officer is not going to have it. You can here at the end, when he's on the phone saying, he was just going to give him a warning. But the answers where not what he likes, so you have what you have. He approaches because at 1st he sees no FL numbers. But then they are there, just under the gunnel line. Then are you going fishing? Does it really matter? Is this a check point to find out why I put the boat in the water?? Its all BS plain and simple. But don't want you to talk down to them.
When it turns physical and dangerous for no legal reason a person does have a right to self defense.

"The officer could not see the sticker because it was blocked by a column so once he walks down there and looks at them it's over. Done!
