i actually volunteer on this railway its a nice little heritage line :) And to answer your question paul about Doniford Hault it is a request stop it has no road leading to it but does have a foot path from the road down to it. I See this route is not 100% to detail parts are missing it seems.
Simon Bourbage Maybe it's because of slight language differences between the UK and the US, but light rail over here (Portland, Oregon, specifically) gets up to 55-60 mph (88-96 km/h).
***** when I went they seemed to go a bit quicker then they but someone I spoke to on the Severn Valley Railway told me that before 34027 Taw Valley went into overhaul on its last run they took her up 50mph not sure how true it is
The Class 47s used to run between Glasgow and Edinburgh during the 80s up to 90mph. The sound of the engine and horn is stirring a few memories. Love the seats in the carriage. Quite relaxing, but the hammering for speeding slightly is offputting if you care about it.
For Doniford Halt, In the game it shows no entrance but in real life there is a pathway down to the countryside that connects to the station, It is a request stop because it isnt a station like Bishops Lydeard
I went to Doniford for a holiday in 2008. Had a walk down to Watchet. There is a 1,000 year old harbour there. A lovely place to visit. I found my way to a pub, called The Bell. reputedly where Coleridge penned The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. There is also a statue of The Mariner at the harbour.Needless to say, I got totally trousered on Addlestone's Cloudy cider and couldn't walk the three miles or so back to the caravan park, so got a taxi. Six pints and my legs were rubber. They do run steam trains along that line :)
Squirrel The BR Class 47 is a diesel-electric loco which means there is no actual clutch while driving because the lever controls the electric engine rather than the diesel engine which is basically only a generator.
Basically just about all heritage railways run at max 25mph, and we'll just put it down to health and safety lol. There's only one heritage railway in Britain that has a double track the Great Central Railway, the rest are just lucky enough to have a single line after the tracks were being lifted in the 60s. Simple explanation and each railway will have their own story to tell :)
Its notched on the power handle becuase that how it is in real life. Also the dial shows the amount of amps being generated by the disel generator as its a diesel electric. Love the videos and hope you do more OMSI in the future
On the subject of trees, I've built some routes myself (amateur, nothing professional) and 3D trees are lovely, but a right pain in the arse for computing power. I usually use 3D trees for stuff right by the line, and for anything more than about 150m, sometimes 200m away I use a 2D model. Works a treat, and stops my computer from catching fire. Another point on the cars. There are stationary models (like that horrible white van at Dunster) and moving models that are have a pre-drawn path. While you can get properly signalled level crossings, where the cars roll across when the train isn't there, and then stop when the train approaches, they're a huge pain to code, so most route builders simply use stationary models for queuing traffic at level crossings, as at least it looks right when the train (and, by extension, the player) is there.
I remember the days when the train carriages looked like that. I wish they would bring them back or at least have trains that have them. Really enjoyed this journey
Washfor station is correct it does have half grass covered platforms Also leaving watchet there is a builders merchant The roads to nowhere are most likely farmers crossings along the line
Haha, loved the impression of the twitter guy, and you're right, play it how you want, I'd look around a bit too. OMG, can tell we're from the same sort of generation, Lego, mechano, train sets, Scalectrix! Wow, had all that, my Lego is in mum's loft, got no end of it. Mechano and Scalectrix I've no idea what happened to it. Train stuff, mum reckons she has some bits somewhere, I brought some track and locos last year and have an on off thing with it, set it up sometimes, I got that class 47 in that livery for Christmas a year or two ago, looks really nice.
The grass at washford station isn't a middle error it is actually half grass! Also the limits because the track was built for heavy steam trains that were a lot more top heavy and had to go slower round corners.
27:35 Paul: "Genuinely feels like im not going down hill but i am..." yes Paul, there's a gradient indicator in your Driver Information window ... "1 : 120" in this instance means a 1ft drop over 120ft forward :)
DID I LIKE THAT! Don't get me wrong; I appreciate the straight "informative" style of commentary, but I just found that so funny and the West Somerset Railway is something I enjoy so much so this is a LIKE no question!
Well it's quite simple if you don't want to over-speed.....It's like when you're driving a car you always check your mirrors, just constantly have a quick glance at you HUD. Always allows you to keep a tab on speed. Even when the AWS/TPWS alarm sets off you can see the alarm set off on your HUD. I love watching the scenery too, I do both (hard-core train driver and scenery runs).....so I like your videos equally....thought I'd just give you a tip.
The reason why Doniford Halt has a 15mph limit is because it's a request stop and passengers for this station should ask the conductor on the train to arrange for the train to stop, to allow them to leave.
I actually followed you progress simultaneously on Google Earth and I found it to be almost 100% correct, and, no the grass on the platform at Wash ford is not a modelling error; it is correct according to the satellite picture. 😀
If you are a heritage railway as this line is, mostly using historical line and trains then there normally is a speed limit of around 25mph. These are mostly independent railways and dont have to adhere to the rules and regulations of the main network. These routes are of much simpler design and are mostly used for tourists. Also keeping lines fit to run at faster speeds is normally outwith the budgets of these lines
Squirrel, did you know if you press 8 on the keyboard in ts 2015 it gives you a free camera and can enjoy the scenery even more! :D I would like you to use it while at the countrysides and stations so we all can see the beautiful scenery. Cheers, Luke :D
In response to the "doesn't this wear out the clutch?": Diesel trains don't actually have clutches. Less powerful units like commuter trains have hydraulic torque converters - like an automatic gearbox in a car - and larger locomotives like this one are diesel electric: the engine is linked directly to a generator, which sends electricity to motors on the wheels.
Thanks Squirrel another great video. I live at the other end of the line to Minehead and so have ridden on the line lot's! The modelling is quite accurate, however there are much more curves and less long straights than that. I have an old mod of this line for the original train sim which is actually more accurate, however the textures in TS2015 are of much better quality!
a very scenic journey i must say :) i loved it, and i totally agree that the sound of a steam engine is just beautiful so yeah please do that next time :) thanks for another awesome TSM video as always and take care Paul :)
Hi Squirrel, I have been enjoying your flight sim series, touring the UK... Northland. Your tour of the parking lot in Cardiff was one to remember! LOL Interesting to see you on the rails too.
I believe Blue harbour is also a men's clothing designer, could be wrong. Enjoyed the video and love how the scenario said it was a diesel day and yet we see a steam train?. Figure that out. Haha, keep em' coming Paul!
hi Paul the grass on the platform is not a texture error some railways put grass on the platforms to make them look nice but also sometimes if the station was abandoned and grass started naturally growing the they would not remove it because it could damage the platform.
On flight sims you are not checking for signals, AWS horns to reset and different speeds etc. So yes you can look outside with no effect to your performance!
Hi, around 35mins in you said about the cars waiting at the crossing, I live in Lowestoft, Suffolk and there is a crossing here next to a station and you can be waiting for ten mins for the train and the traffic just jams up for ages after, if you catch it at the wrong point you could be sitting/ moving very slowly for 20mins
Paul doniford halt is a request stop and is mapped in TS but scenarios only show where there is a marker for you to go via or stop as you said it was not mapped/functioning right and there is a better looking version on steam sounds supreme for free
Paul, great vid......but there is no clutch on a locomotive. Its Diesel electric. The engine runs a generator, the generator provides electric power to the motors on the driving wheels
the grass on the platform might be a modeling error but most heritage railway stations have half tarmac and half mossy as the driver should stop the train where the tarmac is if its a long platform
Margaret Paxton 95F and extremely high humidity (think South-East Asia humidity levels) in a country with no means of dealing with those kinds of temperatures.
Hi mate I herd you say about old carriages. If you ever down in the midlands then pop down th the seven valley railway it is located in Kidderminster and runs through to brigenorth it is 14 miles of steam or dmu or class 50
Hey squirrel, how does the trackIR work? like in some of your vids ill see you looking around and looking at the floor of your trucks or planes and stuff. do you actually have to look at the floor in real life or is there some sort of sensitivity setting on it?
I still just have my Scalextric, Lego and Meccano I had as a kid... They're stuffed in their boxes and waiting for future use... Because most certainly my kid won't just be playing with some stupid tablet all day long.
hey squirrel I had a question? I was wondering have you ever just see what happens if you win as fast as you can does the train derail? does it flip off the tracks ? what happens?
hey paul most of the map is not modelled correctly as there are more hills and in watchet there is a harbour and in washford on the right hand side before u go over the bridge there should be houses which is were I live and the track limit isnt 25mph normal as the steam train and diesel go past at least 30 and I know when they go past cause my room vibrates but it is an amazing line and I get to see all of the trains go past last weekend and this weekend it is Thomas the tank engine day lol. but none of the people that drive the train or work on the railway at any station get paid for doing the job as it is voluntary work.

Paul all heritage lines have max speed of 25mph this is because they are classed as a light railway and and the max speed of a light railway is 25 mph
Simon Bourbage Ah cool, I did not know that, thanks :)
Simon Bourbage Maybe it's because of slight language differences between the UK and the US, but light rail over here (Portland, Oregon, specifically) gets up to 55-60 mph (88-96 km/h).
Simon Bourbage @ The North Yorkshire Moors Railway, yes it is 25mph but drivers always go 30 - 35mph. Causing A lot of engine failures. :)
***** when I went they seemed to go a bit quicker then they but someone I spoke to on the Severn Valley Railway told me that before 34027 Taw Valley went into overhaul on its last run they took her up 50mph not sure how true it is
Simon Bourbage that's good information. I didn't know about that.
The Class 47s used to run between Glasgow and Edinburgh during the 80s up to 90mph. The sound of the engine and horn is stirring a few memories. Love the seats in the carriage. Quite relaxing, but the hammering for speeding slightly is offputting if you care about it.
"Good afternoon ladies." Flirting with the honey's like an absolute boss.
Lol!
For Doniford Halt, In the game it shows no entrance but in real life there is a pathway down to the countryside that connects to the station, It is a request stop because it isnt a station like Bishops Lydeard
*Also there is grass on the actual Washford station at the WSR
I went to Doniford for a holiday in 2008. Had a walk down to Watchet. There is a 1,000 year old harbour there. A lovely place to visit. I've been on that steam train a few times. It runs from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard every day. And it's all run by volunteers
Well done on the increase in vids! Loving it!
From Minehead, on a clear day you can only JUST see Wales

Re-watching your old vids, also high level clouds can move faster then the low level clouds so not weird at all. Nice to watch them all again.
On the subject of trees, I've built some routes myself (amateur, nothing professional) and 3D trees are lovely, but a right pain in the arse for computing power. Brilliant episode again buddy. Love the way that you chat to the passengers brilliantly done

Washfor station is correct it does have half grass covered platforms

23:38 - there's a lot more wind at high altitude so high level clouds usually go faster than low level clouds.
Haha, loved the impression of the twitter guy, and you're right, play it how you want, I'd look around a bit too.

As someone that lives near the west somerset railway, i approve the attention to detail on this :D
That was a good one, Paul. I quite enjoyed that relaxing drive.

Wow, Watchet was suprisingly accurate! except from the boat museum never actually seems to be open.
From what I have understood about trains, is that if it within less then 1K to good barriers are down.
If you are a heritage railway as this line is, mostly using historical line and trains then there normally is a speed limit of around 25mph. Hey Paul. That caravan park you saw at blue anchor is called hoburne (that's the park) and I have been staying there for a week!
In response to the "doesn't this wear out the clutch?":

Many times me and my brother and grandparents went up and down this train line. Happy times.
Hi Squirrel, I have been enjoying your flight sim series, touring the UK... Northland. Your tour of the parking lot in Cardiff was one to remember! LOL
Interesting to see you on the rails too.
***** LOL
I believe Blue harbour is also a men's clothing designer, could be wrong. Enjoyed the video and love how the scenario said it was a diesel day and yet we see a steam train?. Figure that out. Haha, keep em' coming Paul!
That would have looked beautiful covered in snow with the sun shining dont you think?.
great journey Paul always a pleasure to travel with you.
Loved the journey Squirrel! The commentary is hilarious. Keep it up
Hey Squirrel, could you maybe do an American route for your next train sim video?
I quite often go from bishop lydeards to minehead with my family on the steam trains
I went to Minehead last year and went on this very railway line but on a steam train it all looks like the real thing.
The sign at the crossing said "Stop Look and Listen"
hi Paul the grass on the platform is not a texture error some railways put grass on the platforms to make them look nice but also sometimes if the station was abandoned and grass started naturally growing the they would not remove it because it could damage the platform.
On flight sims you are not checking for signals, AWS horns to reset and different speeds etc. So yes you can look outside with no effect to your performance!
I actually go on that railway every year and it took me 35 mins to work out what railway it was
Hi, around 35mins in you said about the cars waiting at the crossing, I live in Lowestoft, Suffolk and there is a crossing here next to a station and you can be waiting for ten mins for the train and the traffic just jams up for ages after, if you catch it at the wrong point you could be sitting/ moving very slowly for 20mins
squirrel ur not the only one that loves class 47's I like them this well
"GOOD MORNING!" Hahaha! Squirrel , you really had me laughing! GG as always, sir!! See you on your next stream :)
Haha, I've been to the blue anchor train station, I live 30 min away! :D Great vid Squirrel!
Paul doniford halt is a request stop and is mapped in TS but scenarios only show where there is a marker for you to go via or stop as you said it was not mapped/functioning right and there is a better looking version on steam sounds supreme for free
i have been on this very route. The station Blue Anchor was featured in Hercule Poriot
Happy driving!
The slow speed limits I believe would be there so Passengers get more time to see the views, after all it is a heritage railway.
Squirrel it is funny when you say about stop looking at your watch to the passengers, and in real life it's all mobile phones nowadays.
I go on this track every summer!
Lucky :)
There's caravan parks on the cliffs near Filey and Scarborough
I do miss those private compartments... Many a good time in them.
Heritage railways are restricted to 25mph running due to the light railway act. :-)
this route is very realistic. Some of the old signs are there in real life.
Paul, great vid......but there is no clutch on a locomotive. Its Diesel electric. The engine runs a generator, the generator provides electric power to the motors on the driving wheels
I think that sign says "Stop, Look, Listen" at 36:53.
That is what Watchet is exactly like
Lol you also missed butlins when you saw the beach
the grass on the platform might be a modeling error but most heritage railway stations have half tarmac and half mossy as the driver should stop the train where the tarmac is if its a long platform
Wow, its been 95F in the UK, well that's measly because its been nearly 107F IN WASHINGTON!
Margaret Paxton 95F and extremely high humidity (think South-East Asia humidity levels) in a country with no means of dealing with those kinds of temperatures.
heritage lines generally are slow speed becauseof confort and old locos
I don't normally watch your train video but due to going past my house I thought il make a exception
Could you continue your Three Countries Series?
I work in williton and I see the trains pass by when i look out the window and I live in minehead :)
Very nice video. Excellent scenery.
They Actually Modelled Butlins!!
This route on its self was amazing, can't wait until the unreal engine when 2016 version comes out.
When you were taking About the Tract IR Im Just wondering if it will work on a single Screen
Doniford Holt in real life has a track down the road but it is only used by seten time
Would love you to do a steam train on this route - great video as always!!
1V53...one Victor five three...that's it's headcode.
Hi mate
I herd you say about old carriages. If you ever down in the midlands then pop down th the seven valley railway it is located in Kidderminster and runs through to brigenorth it is 14 miles of steam or dmu or class 50
At least it's not like the London Underground train simulator where they shoot you on site if you do 26 on a 25.
if i where to buy TRACK IR, do i need to buy the track click seperate?
Hey squirrel, how does the trackIR work? like in some of your vids ill see you looking around and looking at the floor of your trucks or planes and stuff. do you actually have to look at the floor in real life or is there some sort of sensitivity setting on it?
***** Nah it's all configured - you adjust how much head movement translates to how much camera change happens, across all axis
Squirrel no clutch on a diesel electric locomotive, so you're not wearing it out :-)
I still just have my Scalextric, Lego and Meccano I had as a kid... They're stuffed in their boxes and waiting for future use... Because most certainly my kid won't just be playing with some stupid tablet all day long.
Who needs TrackIR when VR goggles are just around the corner?
The top speed on the line is 25mph and there is grass on parts of the platforms
What a nicé old train it's like Harry Potter, Liked the Scenery, i hope there will be more like this, Great Video!
good work Paul when you got into watchet you were in the national park I like when you get out of the cot pit.
2:30 over exitement
nice video the detail is fantastic the stations are quintessentially english
hey squirrel I had a question? I was wondering have you ever just see what happens if you win as fast as you can does the train derail? does it flip off the tracks ? what happens?
Oh, convenient upload time! :)
Thx mate i love the video as im from the West Somerset Railway Area so thx again you are the best
Please tell me this goes through my home town, Wellington.
This would be so cool with a steam locomotive... is there a mod to leave from station 9 3/4?
Squirrel, trains don't have clutches, there isn't a single train that has one. Because trains don't have gears.
the grass on the platform is not an error it can happen on old heritage lines. to and age and class
Oh and the steam train goes down that line every hour or so every day
hey paul most of the map is not modelled correctly as there are more hills and in watchet there is a harbour and in washford on the right hand side before u go over the bridge there should be houses which is were I live and the track limit isnt 25mph normal as the steam train and diesel go past at least 30 and I know when they go past cause my room vibrates but it is an amazing line and I get to see all of the trains go past last weekend and this weekend it is Thomas the tank engine day lol.
but none of the people that drive the train or work on the railway at any station get paid for doing the job as it is voluntary work.
Do you know ","??
People looking at their watches really bugs him lol
