Blimey that passenger train driver was a in a bit of a hurry at Rugley, it pulled away while the doors were closing. Must be late for their lunch break! :-D
Before the AWS(Automatic Warning System) there was a TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System) which looks like a grid in the track. If the signal is at danger and the TPWS deems that you are going too fast to stop at the signal, then it will activate the emergency brakes on the train.
You probably have already worked this out already, but on your approach to Colwich Junction you received a "flashing yellow" approach yet approached the junction as if you expected the protecting signal to be at Red. The way "flashing yellow" approaches work is that the junction signal is already cleared for your route - usually with a yellow aspect. The signal prior would show "flashing" single yellow, and the signal before that "flashing" double yellow. As you approach the junction signal it may clear to a less restrictive aspect. With regard to the emergency brake activation on the approach to Rugeley, that was caused by the Train Protection & Warning System (TPWS) because of your excessive speed approaching the Red signal
The emergency brake at 42:45 was probably a TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System) activation, there are beacons between the rails approaching signals protecting junctions or line changes, you can see one at 42:42, if the train passes over them faster then a certain speed when approaching a red light it will trip the emergency brake to stop the train before it becomes a danger (not neccesarily before the signal but certainly before the junction)
Also, that emergency brake application at 43:17 was caused by a set of TPWS Overspeed loops on the floor (they look like toast racks). If you pass them at over 20mph when approaching a red signal, the emergency brakes get triggered. the other set of TPWS loops are called the Train Stop loops - those are right beside the signal itself and trip if you pass it at danger, no matter what the speed. if you were going the 30 speed limit while approaching the signal from the one behind it, you wouldn't have had the red signal. They only reason why you got it was because you were going too fast.
Totally agree with you on the tech thing, I do wear a watch, but it's mostly to "keep my arm warm", it just feels strange if I don't wear one now, but rarely look at it to be honest. I definitely won't be getting a smart watch, for the same reasons you said, I prefer the take it out of my pocket thing, if I'm on a night out the phone rarely, if ever comes out. I've also got priority notifications set up (Android) which auto turns on after midnight and I usually switch it on when working, so the only people that a notification will come up is family calls and texts, everything else gets to wait. Was nice hearing you talk about your commute and how clock watching can be stressful though. Regarding that red light and emergency brake, I would've done exactly the same; gone up to the light.
I remember TCR, my friend had one. I had one that was put out around the same time called "Power Passers" by Lionel. It was similar in that you could change lanes. Very cool memories.
Brilliant video Paul, that line is well modelled, having travelled it a few times over the years....looking forward to seeing the next videos. Also the passenger trains are travelling between Stafford and London Euston.
That AWS stop almost looked like a TPWS incident, where the system decided you were going too fast to stop at the red signal ahead. But I don't think TS2015 simulates those so it was probably just not being quick enough on cancelling the AWS.
If you get the Armstrong Powerhouse Pack for this loco, more of the buttons in the cab will be functional (all of the screens above the window work, no window opening sadly). As for the reflection on the water, this is a newer route which they have probably changed the way water looks now compared to older routes.
+Squirrel I agree with your comments, train sim is a little behind the times, they should show people waiting on train platforms that are constantly playing with their phones / tablets, because i feel we've lost something with all this technology obsession. The good old face to face, eye to eye contact conversations. I've been on long train journey's where people have talked non-stop for two hours plus on their phone, but said nothing to other people in the train carriage. There is too much 'nagging' technology, and it's very distracting
Very entertaining video as always. You are definitely my favorite youtuber / streamer. Even though your knowledge on signaling etc. in TS (my favorite game) is quite sketchy :-D TS 2016 is not going to be a free update. Your TS15 will get the patches and stuff, but you don't get any of the new features and content. And to your remark at 25:25 You can have all the Memory you want. The game engine is 32bit, so it can't utilize any more than 4GB of Memory in total. I think for TS15 it's something like 3,7GB maximum. And that is VRAM and RAM put together. That is why the game often crashes when you play multiple busy scenarios on different routes without exiting the game. The brilliant Mosel valley route by Aerosoft even tells you in the manual how to put your graphics settings, because it has so detailed textures that the game on some systems crashes even when you just load the route, without any additional blueprints for rolling stock etc. So it really is time for a new engine... 37:26 I think solid yellows are for red, flashing yellows are for track changes. So the fact that the yellows were flashing told you that you will change tracks and that the 50 will be relevant for you. The last signal before track change then is a solid yellor with this white marker (39:17), telling you which track you change to. I could be wrong, since I don't play played UK routes myself, but that's what I could gather from some streams and videos. 41:11 -> solid yellow, so you had to expect red here, not a track change. 42:32 Here you get caught by TPWS. Approaching a signal at danger at too high a speed. Afaik DTG don't bother putting that into their routes, but this route is not by DTG... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_Protection_%26_Warning_System
Remember the TCR well, after having it as a xmas present when i was around 8yo, where as scalextric's track was black, the TCR's was grey if i recall correctly, plus it had the addition of a Dummy Car, that would go around the track at around half the speed of the 2 race cars....Happy times. Ps, am slowly, but surely going through all your vids, after recently subbing you, cheers for every one so far, thoroughly enjoyable.
Just to let you know, the "Ruge" in Rugeley is pronounced as in "huge" not as in "hug". The platforms at Stafford are numbered 1, 3, 4 and 5. There is no actual working platform 2, but the bay alongside platform 1 would probably have served the purpose.
This line is all too familiar to me lol. Stoke to Northampton on London Midlands (the commuters seen here), via stafford, Tamworth, Rugeley trent valley, Lichfield trent valley, rugby and a couple of others.
After watching this Scenario, it was mentioned where is Platform 1 whilst heading South! Commented maybe there may used of been a Plat 1! Just to answer that comment,Squirrel missed seeing the Bay Platform Southbound!
TS 2016 is gonna have a base game that's a free upgrade, but will have additional features that will need to be purchased. Some sort of special effects or additional gameplay or something.
If you lived in Coventry then how can you mispronounce Rugeley? Surely you'd of heard it mentioned a few times? Tempted to get this pack myself and re-create my experiences with London Midland, delays, delays and more delays!
the reason for the emergency brake is you were going too fast over the aws registration point. the train pulls the emegency brake to make shure you dont pass the red
41:48 RIP Rugeley cooling towers, reduced to rubble today. Another element of national history lost, traffic from 2500 homes will eventually merge onto already easily gridlocked roads in town :(
I used to do the same thing but with the battery of my phone, checking it constantly, checking the uptime and all that, force closing apps thinking the battery will last longer, and one day I just stoped caring ,and last time I checked the uptime like a day ago it was longer than before
just fyi if you get a flashing yellow it is warning you of an upcoming spped reduction and you'll also notice an upside down triangle with the speed on it known as a Morpeth board
+TheBarnem13 A flashing double yellow warns that you will be taking a diverging route of lower speed than the main line. You get double flashing yellow at the third-to-last signal before the divergence, then single flashing yellow at the second-to-last, then single solid yellow with feather/route indicator at the last. A speed reduction on the main line is Morpeth board only, no signals.
Extra stuff that the next game will have. Driver Assists plus Extreme Driving and weather effects or something. If you watch the advert for the new game, they kinda promote it.
On the release day of TS 2016 you will get the new UI and academy and if you own Sherman hill and/or West Rhine those will be updated too. However, to get access to the other new features you have to pay. It is explained properly in this image: train-simulator.com/ed_images/ts16path.jpg
Just curious.. this train was in east Anglia with two carriages, just curious what this train used for? as didn't think it would be used for passengers
Love all your TS15 vids. Looks like TS2016 is due to be released on 9/17/15. Do you think you will be adding it? or do you think TS15 is enough for you? Thanks.
Hi squirrel, love your vids and streams couple of questions: 1. How do you change ends in TS2015? 2. How do you hang outside the train? (Outside the drive windows) And 3. What kind do you use? (Controller or keyboard)
Hi Paul I think that you should play some older games like spin tires, next car game and beamNG drive as I liked that style of gaming and I'm sure alot of other people do so please play more older game's.
Jeesh, you had a 110mph and then 90mph speed limit and you're farting along at 35mph. Then you get to a 30 and you've only just got to 50. Infuriating. :)
Blimey that passenger train driver was a in a bit of a hurry at Rugley, it pulled away while the doors were closing. Must be late for their lunch break! :-D
I love it when Paul gets puzzled by the signaling ;)

+Nite creeper (Nitecreeper) AWS is older than TPWS. TPWS was introduced in 1999, AWS much, much earlier.
+RiceBTS he means before as in position not time
Alexis Karfopoulos Ah, the TPWS overspeed loops. Right.
@@Coolerics2011 AWS was introduced during the 50s

3:40 into video and speeding while looking at scenery already! Awsome vid Paul, keep up the good work :)
Another calm, precise and informative video, keep them coming Paul
I drive past that power station when i go banger racing at Cannock (Hednesford Hills) that was so cool to watch thanks Paul.
Notice at 8:42 how the train is moving whilst the doors are still closing!
I know I saw it how did he not notice!
The Emergency Brakes have been applied as you were going faster than 20mph over the TPWS.

I live In rugby, it's pretty cool to seen in train simulator the platforms are pretty accurate.
Can you continue the three country corner route on TS2015
+xboxgamer Puuuush! This needs to get to the top!
Im ios
I live just off this line :) Rugeley pronunciation catches everyone out though! Roo sh Lee :)
Lol the emergency braking points was literally right there lol
Brilliant video Paul, that line is well modelled, having travelled it a few times over the years....looking forward to seeing the next videos. Also the passenger trains are travelling between Stafford and London Euston.
I actually live by cannock...it's countryside and especially Cannock Chase is such a nice, welcoming place.
a consist is actually 2 or more locomotives together, a collection of wagon or coaches is called a rake!
Recently discovered your channel, enjoying the British train simulations, they have inspired me to upgrade my P.C so I can play them.
That AWS stop almost looked like a TPWS incident, where the system decided you were going too fast to stop at the red signal ahead. But I don't think TS2015 simulates those so it was probably just not being quick enough on cancelling the AWS.

+Squirrel
@43:00 ... it tripped the emergency brake, because you passed the AWS too fast.
pretty accurate landscape but for an area highly populated with Virgin Pendolino's it was unrealistic to not see any
You can buy the Pendolino train that does run in this senario. I agree looks much better.

if u use a class 390 career mode there will be 390s but dtg are to lazy to make them on all career modes
Single and Double flashing yellows mean that you need to slow down for a diversion speed limit - they don't indicate a red signal.
Love the new intro.
Very entertaining video as always. You are definitely my favorite youtuber / streamer. Even though your knowledge on signaling etc. in TS (my favorite game) is quite sketchy :-D

40:46 - The 65 mph speed limit was for the track that peeled of to the right.

FYI a flashing yellow doesn't mean prepare to stop, it is a warning that you're about to switch track/line.
GTA5 streams in objects really well that's why it's so mod able. Great video BTW
You were going above 20mph when you went over the TPWS system, which activated the emergency brakes.
platform 1 is a shorter platform. it could be briefly seen at about 31:16 on the fat left hand side of the screen
It was TPWS that stopped you because you were going above 20 mph
They sound exactly like the 201 class locomotives here in Ireland
Amtrak Acela Express Tran.
18:40 you have the banner repeater to your right (black bar on a white disc) showing a proceed aspect
the reason for the emergency brake is you were going too fast over the aws registration point. the train pulls the emegency brake to make shure you dont pass the red
I live near Stafford, Stafford station has 5 platforms, Numbers are 1,3,4,5,6
you need to be doing less than 45mph after a double yellow, other wise the tws will kick in and pull the emergency brake.
In the most positive way....your videos send me to sleep. I love it! listen to your vids most nights.
41:48 RIP Rugeley cooling towers, reduced to rubble today. Another element of national history lost, traffic from 2500 homes will eventually merge onto already easily gridlocked roads in town :(
Paul its pronounced, roo ger ley lol
Awesome video Squirrel!
35:12 Massive? More like minuscule!
OOOOOH NEW INTRO *love it*
Nice, 350's from Rugby to Stafford next?
I think the driver of that passenger train needs the sack... He set off before the doors had shut lol
I used to do the same thing but with the battery of my phone, checking it constantly, checking the uptime and all that, force closing apps thinking the battery will last longer, and one day I just stoped caring ,and last time I checked the uptime like a day ago it was longer than before
Anybody else stare at the speedo saying "SPEED UP!!!" Lol you drive at half the speed limit -.-
just fyi if you get a flashing yellow it is warning you of an upcoming spped reduction and you'll also notice an upside down triangle with the speed on it known as a Morpeth board
+TheBarnem13 A flashing double yellow warns that you will be taking a diverging route of lower speed than the main line. +lcmortensen Right ok then thanks for setting me straight there I'll remember to keep quiet in future
some trains have the ability to calculate the needed distance to stop.
T:ANE streams it as well. I think MSTS used to do as well.
OK, has anyone noticed the second class 350 to depart RTV departs while it's doors are still open?
I live by Lichfield Trent Valley and catch the London Midland Desiro 350- do a video of the passenger service!
In Scotland you have to wait a day for the next train
I own an apple watch and yes you are right I look at it everytime it goes off but it's also a great bit of tech to have if you use it a lot
Good and true storry about watch.
Paul the window does work
You do have to pay for TS 2016 Paul although it hasn't got the unreal engine.
Its just not ready yet. Read the engine driver posts.
+Narciso Daniel You get a free upgrade to the same engine as ts 2016 from ts 2015 but none of the new content if you already own ts 2015
+Narciso Daniel The base game will be a free upgrade, but the special features in the new game will need to be purchased.

Stafford station goes platform 1,3,4 and 5 no plat form 2 as such
I'm sure that loco is the one Eddie Stobart use
DRS has the contract for Stobart Rail and also Malcolm Distribution
Speed limit with arrow is for track changing train
Hi squirrel, love your vids and streams couple of questions:

Can we get a first look video of TS16
Great Video
I live on this line very good likeness
I like trains.

cool a shed on wheels
Greater then the game needed memorie is not sufficiënt only for editing.
Wait a minute... *checks start and end of video* THE START POINT IS THE END POINT?!?!
Yeah my dad drives trains and he said that it always happens to him
What game is that you where playing . Looks interesting!
Hello Squirrel, I live outside rugeley you have pronouced it wrong :)....I am a massive fan of you and the video's you make, just letting you know :D
Would love to play this but too costly

I know this because i live 10 mins from there
do you think that euro truck simulator 2 on the ps4 pls answer
Squirrel, can you do a LOT Polish Airlines flight?
I calculated the speed and distance. you would have gone pass the red
Jeesh, you had a 110mph and then 90mph speed limit and you're farting along at 35mph. Then you get to a 30 and you've only just got to 50. Infuriating. :)

Nice
Those company names ahaha
you put the marker lights on instead of the day head lights
it doesn't go that far, dovetail games chopped the route short
i thought drs stands for drag reduction system
