- Harare (/həˈrɑːreɪ/ hə-RAR-ay), formerly known as Salisbury (/ˈsɔːlzbəri/ SAWLZ-bər-ee), is the capital and largest city of Zimbabwe. The city proper has an area of 982.3 km2 (379.3 sq mi), a population of 1,849,600 as of the 2022 census and an estimated 2,487,209 people in its metropolitan province. The city is situated in north-eastern Zimbabwe in the country's Mashonaland region. Harare is a metropolitan province, which also incorporates the municipalities of Chitungwiza and Epworth. The city sits on a plateau at an elevation of 1,483 metres (4,865 feet) above sea level, and its climate falls into the subtropical highland category.
The city was founded in 1890 by the Pioneer Column, a small military force of the British South Africa Company, and named Fort Salisbury after the British Prime Minister Lord Salisbury. Company administrators demarcated the city and ran it until Southern Rhodesia achieved responsible government in 1923. Salisbury was thereafter the seat of the Southern Rhodesian (later Rhodesian) government and, between 1953 and 1963, the capital of the Central African Federation. It retained the name Salisbury until 1982 when it was renamed Harare on the second anniversary of Zimbabwe's independence from the United Kingdom. The parliamentary wing was removed from Harare upon completion of the New Parliament of Zimbabwe in April 2022, meaning that Zimbabwe has two capital cities at the moment, Mount Hampden and Harare.
Long the commercial capital of Zimbabwe, Harare has seen recent economic turbulence. It remains an important centre of commerce, government, finance, real estate, manufacturing, healthcare, design, education, art, culture, tourism, agriculture, mining and regional affairs. Harare has the second-highest number of embassies in Southern Africa and serves as the location of the African headquarters of the World Health Organization, which it shares with Brazzaville.
Harare has hosted multiple international conferences and events, including the 1995 All-Africa Games and the 2003 Cricket World Cup. In 2018, Harare was ranked as a Gamma World City. The city's marquee festival is the Harare International Festival of the Arts, modelled on the Edinburgh Festival and one of the largest arts festivals in the southern hemisphere. It is also home to Dynamos FC, the club with the most titles in Zimbabwean football.

I lived there between -84 to -86😊
Impressively clean and orderly
Thank you so much for posting this video, I haven't been home to Harare in 24 years and this brought back so many memories ❤
You can still slightly sense that this city was once a well organised place but now has gone greatly downhill
They threw the whites out…nuff said.
It looks like there’s no traffic rules
@@dinerics me when I have the analysing power of a 5 year old child
هراري مدينة عصرية جميلة ورحبة. شكرا انا❤ زيمبابوي
harare is way more developed than i expected
Can you maybe paint a picture of you expected Harare to be like
@@earthlycitizen2155 iam intrested to know as well
The city is dirty lol having skyscrapers or tall buildings doesn't mean development 😂😂
@@TheHardcoreboy747you need to travel around more to know that Harare is developed.
@@tzar2984 there's nothing special in Harare, look how dusty & empty the city is 😂😂 they're all in south Africa 🇿🇦 & Zambia 🇿🇲
I THINK THIS CITY is Clean and safe than Mumbai
Thanks for the video. I have nostalgia for my birth city, it's been long since I have been there. It could have been better if you were narrating a bit, telling us street names etc.
Magnifique
Very interesting
Much more cleaner than India.
زيمبابوي. تُبلي البلاء الحسن نحو التنمية والحداثة و الإزدهار 🇲🇦🇿🇼
I loved my visit to zim. My brother lived in Kariba and I spent a month there Beautiful part of the world
Let's take our country seriously....compare our infrastructure to neighboring countries and all our travels should make us realize where we lack
Harare is better than anywhere in Indian subcontinent.
I’d rather move to harare
Traffic wise I agree, I was studying in India
@@Thabomazhu must be aware of the population of India compared to Zimbabwe ,so naturally there will be rush in traffic...Bt plzz don't compare the road infrastructure of New Delhi to this city ...for god sake...😂😂😂😂😂
Have u ever seen Gurgaon city??Noida City?? Hitech City Hyderabad?? Bengaluru??People are free to speak shit ,just because of social media nowadays 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Do u even know abt the inflation & unemployment rate of Zimbabwe at current times??Plzz settle there as soon as possible.... people like u deserves an eye opener.. 😉😉
@@Thabomazh what were you studying in that shithole😂😂 Are you still there? Nvm china is the best.
Comprehensive video of Harare
I am surprised that this part of the world is still living without any written traffic laws. Amazing!
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
😅😅😅
Come to India
Road markings please.....
I miss my old Salisbury 😢
more beautiful than nairobi
Harare Zimbabwe nice city cuntry patel family business man Zimbabwe 😊
Serious need to install latest traffic lights, new kerbing, new road markings on all roads. Otherwise harare is a beautiful city.
Por que no hay semáforos en Zimbabwe? En Kinshasa hay algunos pero la gente no los respeta. Saludos desde Buenos Aires Argentina.
Looks like an organised Kampala. Stuck in time
Wow even Harare looks better than Delhi..m
What a fucking delhi🤮
No it does not lmao
Какие ровные дороги! Но где разметка и светофоры?
Looks better than Russia😀
Rhodesia ❤
Definately looks better than Pyongyang.
3:39 Rotten Row Street 😊
Take note. The route has been carefully chosen to avoid the potholed roads especially in Southerton etc etc etc
Former Rhodesia.
What happened to Salisbury man they ruined 😕.
Harare's infrastructure now looks like a growth point that is half done, but anyway still has a long way to become morden.
Harare needs serious TLC
The number of BMW's I've seen in this video paints a different picture of what the notion about the economic status of Zimbabwe is...
house cleaners, gardeners in Jhb are from Zim and Malawi.
Mist likely stolen vehicles from Europe or North America, namely Canada and the US.
Nah they all right hand drives. So you a wrong. It's a city as you can see people are going to drive cars😂
@@tatianavorobiova8015so you believe Gardners in South Africa drive BMWs. Ignorance will kill you one day.
Sent from uk to zim. Stolen
Roads are only built in Harare side you will never hear anything about Bulawayo. When are roads going to be constructed in Matabeleland. Still a question mark.
Hai zimbawe super Sachin dravid sawag in Harare stadium o k
Harare are look better than whole of my homeland cambodia
It sad our country cambodia look more poorest than this 😢
They use now and then, white chalk to paint the road markings in the night, when there is hardly any traffic. The 10 million USD tender was awarded to Sir wicknell. But his share is only 1,5 million.
I invite people of Zimbabwe drink everyday rose tea , UA-cam/drinks everyday rose tea with honey , share that video to kith and kin
Southern African cities are way different to west African
How so?
Cleea and beautiful @@tzar2984
Southern african cities look a lot like north American cities .@@tzar2984
Because white build the cities in south african cities
Southern cities and eastern cities are very similar ,west and central Africa are similar too
Govt could yuhang the zim flags upthereplizlovely drive
Looks old building.. era Ian Smith
Same 1970s buildings. lol, they haven't changed this city 🤣 🤣 now it's a ruined waste land. Great
Looks like an abandoned city with solid foundations.
Lies it just looks nice. Be honest
All builds by white at downtown
Why they don't paint buildings, those colors make me think that Harare is a dusty city, not to mention the lack of trees which almost don't exist
Even though the country is recovering somewhat it was devastated by the monstruous senile and very dangerous Mugabe. I talked to people from the said country and they told me in the end it was his wife who ran the country. From what was once a prosperous country it ended up brancrupt and devastated by Mugabe the ultimate senile dictator. As for visiting the country I would prefer North Korea first.
It wasn't destroyed by Mugabe but by Sanctions by the West requested by the opposition party. So don't blame Mugabe for the issues he doesn't know about. Get first-hand information not I heard that it was blah blah blah.
@@AUTOEASEGROUPTVno. Robert Mugabe was a dictator, destroyed Zimbabwe and left the country in a hyperinflation crisis
Salisbury was much more prosperous, cleaner and safer.
For who?
@@AlanDoherty-ru6iq For everyone but especially for the colored people.
@@aheat3036 Fair enough I have never been but follow the politics a little. I thought for all its woes Zimbabwe is thoroughly christian and very safe.
@@AlanDoherty-ru6iqYou should really study more about history. Zim became a dump with Mugabe and I assume the same under his sons.
@@friscostreetstories5403 Thanks I have looked at the data. This is a very safe country. Political mess sure.
Harare, Zimbabwe 2020 is Salisbury, Rhodesia, 1975
Zimbabwe was a beautiful place until the EU destroyed it
Even comparing old name Rhodesia to Zimbabwe tells it all...
This video is not in 4k resolution.
It is now (6 days later). Sometimes YT takes a bit longer to fully process the video and have all resolutions available.
