    You're a saint man. Thanks! Went from 4 minutes to 1 minute per frame just by changing the reflectivity depth and removing unnecessary blur.

    Just watched this again after a long time (too long) and it is still one of the best render settings tutorials around. You keep it to the point and don't ramble on a lot, continuously repeating the same things over and over again. Well done, bravo and good work, mate. Keep them coming.

    A really helpful and honest video. Thank You. Cinema 4D is really great but I use to wonder why so many projects are very short and cool-looking. It's because the render times are ridiculous! You can't even experiment adequately to really get the project you want unless you sacrifice something in the render options.

      This will always be a characteristic of 3D work so long as people turn all the features on. Perhaps consider this, if you made a film of the quality found in Toy Story, your render times on a modern machine would be a few seconds per frame. If you can live without AO, GI and all the rest, you can certainly make an hour long epic.

      3DFluff Hello 3DFluff, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I will consider investing in a better machine to handle the effects I want to create. The machine I have at the moment is a Sony Vaio. I have had it for well over four years now and it has honestly served me well but when I started buying all these top software's, Adobe, Premiere Pro, C4D my Laptop has struggled a bit, however it still gets the job done but then again I am limited in terms of what I want to create. I will remember what you've said as I progress into the future with video creation and effects.

    3DFluff,
    I wanted to take the time to write you a thank you.
    If it wasn't for you I would've have been learning from more mistakes than one might care to make. Over the past year I have been self teaching myself how to use SVP 12 and After Effects, which I'm sure you already know that those programs already have tons of tutorials.
    Today I figured I would give Cinema 4D a go and try to learn all I could about this amazing software before I even started the program. To my surprise unlike AE and SVP the tutorials for C4D are far and few between, and whenever I had thought I'd found a good tutorial I was let down by poor communication skills and a clear lack of experience from most of the TUT creators.
    And then, hours later, I come across someone who goes by the name "3DFluff" chuckling at the humor in the name I figured I'd give it one last go and watched this video.
    If I tried to say I wasn't in awe listening to your tutorial then I'd be a liar. Assuming you aren't being paid to do this It's amazing that you not only took time to make a video to help others out, but also took the time to make sure it did just that, helped others learn this awesome medium of art.
    You (in a single video mind you) have proven to many of us how incredibly fluent and helpful you can be. Unlike most others you aren't blowing smoke up our asses with bullshit "tips + tricks", you aren't watching another persons tutorial and posting it as your own video, no.
    You are helping people understand a craft that your clearly experienced in and I respect that, a lot. I can undertstand if it may seem overdramatic to practically write a "School paper" of a comment, but you deserve the praise.
    Thanks again for helping me out, I can't wait to see what I accomplish using C4D and I hope you continue to spread your knowledge of C4D+.
    -Jack

    My renders are 10x faster now. From 24 minutes down to about 2.
    I just have to do some tweaking now to make them look a little better and less grainy.

    I have cinema 4D lite, when i go to export my animation in adobe after effects or adobe media encoder, the estimated render time is ridiculously long. My animation is only 225 frames long. I can't figure out how to shorten my render time.

      go to edit > preferences > memory tab > then put how much memory you want to allocate on rendering. Enjoy :)

    • @elikay2101
      @elikay2101 8 років тому

      8x3 = 24? 2x8 + 2x4 = 24? he just has a different ram stick probably, not that uncommon

    • @3DFluff
      @3DFluff  8 років тому

      You don't. You want the software to use as little memory as possible. Think of memory like the trunk/boot of your car. You go shopping, you buy stuff, you need to get it home; it takes up as much of your trunk as it needs. Spreading it out and making it take up more trunk space doesn't get you home any faster. In fact you want it to take as little space as you can, so when you stop off on the way home and grab some beer, theres still some space left.
      TLDR; Using more memory doesnt make it render faster, it probably just makes it render slower.

    • @3DFluff
      @3DFluff  8 років тому

      There is no setting for how much memory to use on rendering, C4D uses as much as it needs, all you can do is reduce how much memory it uses for certain tasks (caching textures, caching rendered images)

    the part of antialiasing... mmmm let me think, you are saying that I can't put a minimum of 16 and maxmimuk of 16 with best mode? ok, that's the reason because I render in 1 hour a simple image at the quality of 1080p of youtube

    • @3DFluff
      @3DFluff  8 років тому

      That.... that would be a bad idea. 16x16 antialising will increase your rendertimes by 256 times.

    • @TheMine2002
      @TheMine2002 8 років тому

      3DFluff Well, maybe not at that time, but now I use it some times. My i7 is powerful enough to render that and if I can get images with a superior definition and only have to wait some minutes I'll do it.
