- Time lapse of painting a rose value study in oils, using a method of softening after the block in, then painting in the details for a more subtle and beautiful result.
Originally streamed over three hours as part of a live workshop.
After a break (because I have to garden!) I can see me returning to your fantastic workshops in the near future. This reminded me how good a teacher you are Paul, and how your approach to learning is just what I need. Bravo!
It'll be lovely to see you again Helen, and thank you!
Oh my! So inspiring… I’ll get the paints out now… much like hearing a beautiful piano piece, you make it look easy… thank you for sharing and inspiring
One of the best rose lessons I've ever seen. Thank you so much!
Absolutely lovely! I have been struggling to paint roses for several years now. I believe I need to do this exercise to make any kind of progress as I always seem to skip steps yet make it highly complicated.
Flowers are hard! The biggest challenge is really to simplify the form down to the basic shapes. If you can do that, you'll improve. In this study, the rose on the left is basically a cup, or a bowl. The one on the right is a cup in a saucer. You can hopefully see that near the beginning where the basic froms have been drawin in. Then, if you can get the values right for the shadow, the half tone and the light, you're most of the way there :)
@@PaulFoxton thank you so much!!!
@@PaulFoxton - I have been trying to paint flowers too, with color “ all over the place”, I have been struggling because the color seems random but yet follow some subtle patterns- my favourite master is Henri Fantin Latour , his flower painting has a mysterious feel to it - any advice on how to paint like his style?
Just a perfect little moment thanks
You're very welcome :)
Beautiful painting (& video), thank you so much
😍😍😍
Easy for you to say 😓
So beautifully rendered and clear, short and simple instructions- 💕love it!!!
Thanks Susan
Thanks Paul. Appreciate you posting this....wondering what brush you use for the blend? Thanks!
It's a big synthetic watercolour wash brush, very soft. It doens't need to be high quality really, just big and very soft!
@@PaulFoxton Thanks for the info Paul. Much appreciated.
Whoa that's so amazing! I learned a lot for 1 minute!

Divno!
Thank you!
It often amazes me how such great artists, painters and teachers have small followings and yet others that are not so.....well, great have a huge following. Here's hoping you stick to it and maybe one day you'll go viral and you can bring this greatness to more people. Oh... and more of these one minutes videos please, they're fantastic.
The problem with one minute videos is that they take me a day to make! But I will try :)
@@PaulFoxton Everything that is good takes time. That's why it's good.
