Alright guys, we are back with Nightwish Wednesday! (Even though today is a Thursday. 🤨) I hope it's alright that I went with Buenos Aires for this series, it seems like a lot of you guys wanted this one. 😊 Let me know some facts about this song and probably correct me on how I said Buenos Aires. 😂

Hi Nikki, I am glad that you were well enough to record today - it's great to see and hear your smiling face again! This was the Argentinian leg of the 'Decades' Tour, effectively performin songs throughout the bands' career. Many of the songs will not have been played since Tarja left in 2005, so it will have been a treat for the die-hard fans who had supported Nightwish from '97 onwards. The quality is excellent as it has been liftd directly from the DVD. 'Swanheart' enables Troy to make an immediate appearance, as he won't return again for a number of songs. The original does feature vocals sung by Tarja, but here it is performed as an instrumental and works perfectly as an intro for the concert. Look after yourself please Nkki. This show is great, I'm glad you chose it.
There is so much more Nightwish to watch. You also could do the many documentaries and interviews available on UA-cam. Floor in particular has an abundance of interesting stuff uploaded on her channel.
I've watched some of Floor's videos, like her vlogs, but I definitely need to check out some documentaries too. ☺️

i remember starring at the opening, 6 years after my last Nightwish live concert (and the first with Floor)
when Troy starts that concert, i can´t hold back the tears... but when Floor starts singing they dryed as fast as they came... what a concert, what a powerhouse, the Nightwish live feeling was back in just 0,01 seconds
that was a night to remember, and it was my first Ghost Love Score live listening with the Floored ending of it... i was done after that high note

Nikki; I love your reaction/analysis. Buenos Aires is a wonderful show (many older songs with Floor in lead-vocals in front of one of the best crowds arround the world, maybe "THE BEST"-Argentina-). Greetings🇦🇷🤘🤗👏😎👍😉
Maybe it helps, if you watch the documentary "End of Innocence" (it's on YT with english subtitles) about the first years of Nightwish. There is a part, where Tuomas mentions, that after their second album "Oceanborn" he'd lost his "inner child", his hunger to experiment, cause he thought, with "Oceanborn" they had done everything they could ever create, and there wouldn't be anything more he could do. That's why their third album "Wishmaster" sounds more or less the same as "Oceanborn". I'm paraphrasing Tuomas here, and it's not quite my own impression of these two works. But it's definitely a tinier step forward than for example from their first one "Angels fall first" to "Oceanborn".
Then, with "Century child", they were digging new ground again. And if you read the lyrics, you'll find this part: "This is the birth of all hope To have what I once had". Imo Tuomas refers exactly to this topic. Feeling this old fire again, creating new sounds, new songs. I don't think, it would be about Tarja, cause he never had anything more than simple friendship with her (whether he'd wished for more or not, there was nothing he "once had"). And if I remember correctly, during the "Century child" era they were all good with each other. They've had many personal problems before, and then the real big problems started later (even according to Marcelo, Tuomas' biggest living critic)
Btw: I recommend you to listen to the original song "Swanheart" as well. It is a very beautiful ballad on "Oceanborn". But it was always standing a bit in the shadow of their big hit single "Sleeping sun" from the same time.
Nice to hear someone include Swanheart. That is the Irish Low Whistle in D flat.
The vocal version with Tarja is worth watching/hearing.
Followed by one of the great Nightwish openers.
I like the Bloodstock 2018 version of End of All Hope too.
BA. 2018 is the best concert IMO (YMMV).

Every time I watch this concert, Troy's version of Swanheart brings a tear to my eye.
Buenos Aires 2018 is the one I always go back to. But I love them all.

I remember reading somewhere that he makes some of his own instruments including the recorder he is playing at the beginning of the song.
Hope you are on the mend, this concert should help with that. I like this easily the best of the shows I have in my collection both recording wise and the setlist. There is a wonderful music video for End of All Hope with a young band and an interesting vision on the lyrics.

The low whistle is sometimes referred to as a tin whistle. A magical beginning setting the stage for traveling back in time to re-experience all of the older Nightwish songs from the past. You have heard the 2nd song in this show. However, it is worth checking out this version. Floor changed up a few of her parts to make it even better. The whole show is great.

Never apologize for health problems your health is priority number 1, I'm not a big fan of bagpipes but he does a wonderful job on the electric bagpipes I assume that's what it is. Outstanding reaction can't go wrong with nightwish.

Those are Uilleann pipes, you don't blow into those the way you would with Bagpipes.

This song was from before the breakup of tarja. Tuomas almost quit the band before during this album but decided to keep going.

EDIT: The vibe when Tuomas wrote this was bad. Bass player Sami was kicked out, but Tuomas didn't have the guts to tell it in person, prelude to the open letter several yrs later. Marko joined and basically saved the mood & band. Then Tarja announced her departure. One more album and she'd be gone. As to Buenos Aires, nothing wrong with the US pronunciation. You're American, right? Wouldn't want you guys try to pronounce Vincent van Gogh the Dutch way either, just go with Van Go 🤠
Hearing foreigners pronounce van Gogh makes my left ear bleed.

Now for the "Aires" part, say it like you were a lawyer in court, after pleading your case to the judge, you finish by saying " I rest my case". The "I res" = "Aires". Hope that helps! P.S. 'End of all hope' was a dark song because Tuomas (keyboards) wrote it during a dark time after their 3rd album 'Wishmaster'... he was depressed and felt like he had 'lost his innocence' as a songwriter... First 2 Nightwish albums, he was writing to express himself musically... By the 3rd album, he felt like he was writing songs for the record label... to please the fans... to make money... He became so despondent that he contemplated disbanding Nightwish as he wrote the 4th album 'Century Child' in 2002... The songs on the album like 'End of all hope' captured his despair... he also wrote - 'Bless the child' ... 'Dead to the world' ... 'Slaying the dreamer' ... on how he felt at the time.
Nightwish took a year off and barely toured for 'Century Child'... Tarja (vocals) went to university to study and got married during the break... Tuomas, however, had a change of heart and was inspired to write again... that was how the next album 'Once' was done and recorded by 2004. Nightwish returned to tour that year for 'Once' and even launched their 1st N. America tour... Sadly, 'Once' would be Tarja's last Nightwish album - she was fired in 2005 for financial disagreements and disrupting their touring plans.

I think it would be a good idea, when doing a reaction, to find the album the song you're reacting to came from.
This way, you can place events in the right order.
Tarja was fired in 2005.
Century Child was recorded in 2001 and released in 2002.
So the lyrics were written in 2001 or before.
About the venue...
You are trying to pronounce Aires...
So say Heidy and use that same D sound for the R. Now instead of Hei, just say a long i.
ī is the first syllable and Dez with an S is the second syllable.
So now that you have the vowels right, go back to Heidy and pay attention to tongue placement on the D and use that for the R.
Put it all together...
ī des =Aires
As far as I know Tuomas doesn't take long after their world tours to present the band with the demo for the next album.
Marko or in this case Jukka, Emppu, and Kai, meet with Tuomas and begin the "listening" process.
Then they play their parts as they see fit and Tuomas then makes suggestions or asks for certain changes to what he feels fits the song.
After the music is almost finished being recorded, Floor and Troy come in and go through the same process (but this is MONTHS later).
They usually end their tours in August and after a month break, go back to business in the studio.
You should watch "Nightwish: The Making of Album #8.
Really take you right into the process of how they conduct business when it comes to recording, it puts things in perspective and also VERY fun to see them doing it.
FYI: I would've loved nothing more than to hear them perform the actual tracks of some of the songs, unfortunately, due to the songs being recorded at the time (and not released), they didn't want to spoil anything from the album so they didn't include any actual music from it in the series.

The lyrics of this song have nothing to do with Tarja and certainly doesn't relate to her departure from Nightwish, which happened a few years later.
But I know that some Tarja fans have unfounded fantasies about the alleged romance between Tuomas and Tarja or Tuomas' unrequited love for her, which is why they sometimes mistakenly interpret some of Tuomas' lyrics as a kind of "veiled messages" to Tarja.

Maybe I am hanging to an illusion, but the time stamp fits to when Tarja started dating Marcelo...so the songs might have been written in a mood similar to as if Tuomas' crush just has been destroyed. (Quote from Marcelo (analogous): Tuomas doesn't like me, because he is jealous on me.)
P.S. Poultry stock, preferably from pigeons, will help, at least if your problems are of physical nature.
