I've had an idea for a smartphone that would be a new type of design. I'm never gonna make it so I don't mind talking about it. They come in two interchangeable pieces: 1. Core hardware system. 2. Wireless interface. -So the core system would merely be a brick you keep in your bag or pocket or perhaps it works as something less sophisticated than a smart phone, like a watch or other accessory or piece of clothing. Or maybe even something you throw on your key chain. -The wireless interface would be the screen, camera, speakers, etc. Pros: -Hidden core system means it can be made larger and less form fitting, especially since it doesn't have to work around ergonomics and built-in interface tech. -Higher-end specs can be jammed into the device without making extra sacrifices for screen or speaker quality, battery size. Even heat management would be simpler. -The wireless interface doesn't need to be 'smartphone' in it's design. It could be designed like a pair of sunglasses, for instance. -Interchangeable pieces means it would be less complicated to repair. Cracked screen? Why repair the hardware? You can also opt to upgrade one or the other instead of both. -Wireless interface doesn't need to be a single device. It could be individual devices (if you so desire) that all interface with the same hardware that you keep in your pocket. -Display to multiple interface systems. Want to share a video with someone? Why share the file or send a link when you can just display it on their interface? -Increased security: your core device is stored in the core system. The wireless interface (what you use) is just an interface. If you lose it, break it or have it stolen, your core device and all of the information on it would still be kept safe. Cons: -Extra piece means extra battery. You'd have to keep both charged. -Extra piece means extra thing you have to remember to take with you. -Wireless interface may invite input lag, miscommunication/cross-talk, desync issues.
If they're really going to do a pop-up camera, then the camera should have a physical slide button on the back that you would slide up with one of your fingers - to get rid of the risk of having that electrical motor fail, and then you don't have a front facing camera anymore since under-screen cameras are still a few years off.
The 3.5mm jack is going to be obsolete when the bluethooh has a higher quality than a physical connection, at the moment it is stupid to remove the 3.5 jack.
For now, this is the only solution but in the future we can see phone that has front cameras and sensors embedded behind the screen or on the screen itself

One concern about popping camera is their durability. A fixed camera have less moving part so its less prone to failure. But honestly I like the popping camera compare to a stupid notch on the screen.

I don't understand why they didn't make it spring-loaded. Laptop DVD drives have switched from being motorized to spring-loaded. Wouldn't that be quicker and the absent of a motor can extend the life of the device. You can push it in once you're done with it.

I love my Bose Bluetooth headphones, but when the battery is low, or I have a log day and I am not in public I will attach the cord. I agree the 3.5 has its place, maybe though as an add-on attachment via USB C?

-The wireless interface doesn't need to be 'smartphone' in it's design. It could be designed like a pair of sunglasses, for instance.
-Interchangeable pieces means it would be less complicated to repair. Cracked screen? Why repair the hardware? You can also opt to upgrade one or the other instead of both.
-Wireless interface doesn't need to be a single device. It could be individual devices (if you so desire) that all interface with the same hardware that you keep in your pocket.
-Display to multiple interface systems. Want to share a video with someone? Why share the file or send a link when you can just display it on their interface?
-Increased security: your core device is stored in the core system. The wireless interface (what you use) is just an interface. If you lose it, break it or have it stolen, your core device and all of the information on it would still be kept safe.
Cons:
-Extra piece means extra battery. You'd have to keep both charged.
-Extra piece means extra thing you have to remember to take with you.
-Wireless interface may invite input lag, miscommunication/cross-talk, desync issues.

If they're really going to do a pop-up camera, then the camera should have a physical slide button on the back that you would slide up with one of your fingers - to get rid of the risk of having that electrical motor fail, and then you don't have a front facing camera anymore since under-screen cameras are still a few years off.

I don't understand why they didn't make it spring-loaded. Laptop DVD drives have switched from being motorized to spring-loaded. Wouldn't that be quicker and the absent of a motor can extend the life of the device. You can push it in once you're done with it.
