Amazing, I never imagined the history of that Dalek Supreme prop could be so convoluted, especially when it comes to marrying up different top and bottom halves.
A great final episode to the series, the black and gold Planet supreme is probably my favourite design from the show, it's just so distinctive, so it's fascinating to learn so much about the prop's history. Enjoy your break, you've earned it.
The series thus far has been forensic in it's detail. I thought I knew the history of who well but this takes things to a whole new level. Well done. Your hard work really shows.
Same here I've been a fan for over 20 years! (ever since 1997) and I pride myself in my know how regarding the series (albeit the Classic stuff) and to be honest I'd say that I'm out classed.
This whole series has been amazing! The level of detail and research has been incredible. Like many comments I have waited to watch each episode to make sure I can pay full attention with no interruptions which is rare for me to do. Congratulations to all involved and thank you - please make another series!
So I'm ever so slightly confused, if two Daleks were stolen, (presumably you meant the top of the original Planet Supreme and the bottom of the stunt Dalek) what happened to the skirt that was recovered? You said one of the Dalek, (halves) was found and since the original Planet Supreme wasn't in Planet I assume the skirt was found and then left without a top half
From the record promo, the top of 11 and the skirt of 19 was stolen. So, the top of the prop destined to be the Supreme in Planet and the skirt of the Supreme from 2150 Ad. The complete stunt Dalek vanishes after the Swales motors visit. It may have been stolen as we have heard a story that one was stolen from the Selfridges display either when they were setting up or getting them ready to send back to Nation
It always amazes me how many weird and quirky Daleks came out of the 4 stage props. Different arms, guns, eyes, "ears", and of course the rainbow of colors applied. It's like a slideshow of knock off Daleks.
Honestly, I am AMAZED that there is that much info out there about old Dalek props, and that so many people have taken it upon themselves to make deductions and catalogue it.
It's great that there's going to be a season two. Loved the Gerry Haylock connection in this ep. It's always a pleasure to see his artwork. Happy Hols!
The majority of us have probably waited 40+ years for this series. I still remember diving into the bottom of the weetabix box's each week to get my Dr Who cardboard figures, and it was almost 40 years to the day that Destiny of the Daleks hit our screens. As I was almost 13 then, this is the series I remember the most as I had been counting the days since seeing an advertisment.
The quality of these videos astound me and are absolutely fantastic and are more interesting than most documentary’s put on the dvds, keep up the excellent work
I only found your Channel at the beginning of your Series and followed you since. I love how you put a lot of time, effort and research into your videos and website to make them enjoyable and full of information.
Every time I hear more about the behind the scenes info on the Daleks, the more I realize it's one gigantic mess that generally always comes down to "We don't own our villains and the owner keeps trying to do his own thing with them!" It's all really fascinating to learn about and always has some of the strangest turns.
Go Gerry Haylock! I never guessed that. Well done guys this is truly an amazing end to an astounding series that I have literally looked forward to watching every Monday! Thank you so so much and I'm looking forward to the second series!
Absolutely without a shadow of a doubt the best source of information for some of doctor who's most famous enemies. I've loved this since episode 1, keep up the great work
This channel is the best channel for infomation about these tin can machines! Please keep up the amamzing research and work!!!!!! Edit - Just became your first pateron supporter!
I have really loved this series as it has been very helpful with gaining knowledge on these props. Thank you for making these! I hope that we can get a history of more daleks soon.
Loved every minute of these episodes, I love the detail you guys went into and the amount of time you have used to research and write these. The colourisation of he photos was amazing too. Honestly was better than than most TV documentary’s I have seen! And your voice is perfect for narrating, sound classy, cool and tough. (Maybe the next David Attenborough?)
The whole series has been fantastic, the amount of research and work done to put this lot together amazing. Have a great holiday and try not to think about Daleks!
Another fascinating episode! Thanks guys. I knew about the later theft and return of two Daleks from the series, as it became a big Blue Peter event, but not about Terry Nation's personal ones being stolen. You keep coming up with great Dalek stories I don't know. Keep up the great work!
A staggering series and I thoughrouly enjoyed every moment. Such detailed research and painstaking attention to detail! Thank you for such an insightful run of videos. Good luck with the next series!
Great series of videos guys. Far more in depth than anything that could of been commissioned for a dvd extra. Fans love history, detail, insight and education on the series and films they love. You delivered big time! and more . All the best on your new projects!
Brilliant stuff yet again. I've loved every minute of this, and I'm so glad it's not quite over (looking forward to the snippets videos). Enjoy your holiday. You more than deserve it after producing this excellent series.
Fascinating! What more could I ask for than to feature one of my favourite supreme Daleks! I also love all things Daleks! As Davros would say...perfect!
Thoroughly enjoyable series! This channel fully deserves a wider audience... This episode got quite complicated, with all the swapping of Dalek parts and the ongoing alterations of the Nation Dalek props, but what I felt was most interesting is your research on how Terry Nation was influenced by 'Countdown' and the power of Colour to sell both the Daleks, and generate ideas. It's easy to forget that back in the early 70s colour in entertainment was very special, as it was so sparsely used - most people still watched B&W television, comics were still mostly B&W of duo-tone, and so when you had 'Countdown' arrive on the shelves this was a comic that was a cut above most others on the shelf... Colour comics offered visual appeal and an enormous Pull-factor obviously, but to a creator like Terry Nation they offered 'ideas'. Suggestions. Seeing his Dalek creations being used and illustrated so imaginatively certainly does seem to have fired his imagination, and ambitions. And while you seemed to tippy-toe around the subject of whether Gerry Haylocks work was influencing _Nation's_ approach from this point on, or whether there was something particular influencing Haylock with _his_ colour choices, you certainly did a good job in highlighting how Nation could be very strongly influenced by other media, and advertising. Today we're saturated with Multi-Media. Back in the early 70s though Media was limited, often in B&W, and it took something as imaginative and special like 'Countdown' or TV Comic to break those accepted boundaries, and show a different way to 'do' things. As a fan of that Countdown comic it's so nice to see just *how* influential it actually was...
this series has been an incredible one to watch, and i really admire the effort and precision that has gone into its creation! really looking forward to your future projects
Yay! Series 2!!! Looking forward to it :) Thanks so SO much for this series, it has been amazing - back to reading your website and awaiting the little snippets as they appear :)
Thank you for uploading this wonderful series, I'm sad to see that this is the end as I've always enjoyed watching those videos. In fact whenever you'd upload one it would be one of the main highlights of my week, no kidding! Honest! In fact I always enjoyed being told facts about our program that I never even thought to think of, which did make me feel a little like a member of the Tribe of Gum (or should that be 'the Tribe of Orb'? Never mind) which means that while I'm not completely stupid like an Ogron (otherwise I'd have been zapped by the Doctor by now) but rather ill informed, but at the same time to be capable of learning, indeed you could say that this has been quite my Dawn of Knowledge Hmm??? Dear dear, now where were we? Oh yes... Hopefully you will upload more Who related vids in the future, I also like the fact that you corresponded so nicely with your subscribers (I'm one of them by the way) and I liked the way that you enjoyed my little jokes and references to various aspects of all things (Classic) Who. Happy, Times and Places.
Thank you for those kind words Christopher! It’s been a pleasure and we are really grateful for all the nice feedback we have had. We will be back soon-ish with more. Gav really could do with a break after weeks of solid video editing!
I don’t use this word often... but this is simply gorgeous. Are there any more photos of the Selfridges 77 display? I cannot believe I have not seen anything from this before!!! Simply stunning stuff.
We have searched and searched for more images of the Selfridges display but never turned up any. I’m sure there must be some around but there are people who don’t know how important they are!
Dalek 63•88 I just can’t believe I’ve not seen that photo before. It’s a thing of beauty - the Zygon there!! I’d need to check but would this have been loaned from Blackpool at the time, as I’m sure there was only one costume on display around this time? Where did you discover if I may ask, or has it been readily available for a long time and I’ve just been completely out of the loop!? It’s amazing that we’re finding out so much more about the show as we march further and further on from its original transmission. You’re doing wonderful work for the show discovering this stuff. As a long time follower, I cannot wait for more!! ❤️❤️
I love the fantastic Supreme Dalek. Planet is a fantastic Greatest Hits Dalek story. Shocked the Thals have never come back since Genesis of the Daleks.
It's Monday night! - Oh, but it's one week after your series ended. Just shows how fantastic your series has been, as, although only a few weeks long, somehow my brain has set an internal alarm clock. Looking forward to whatever you produce next. Thanks again.
They never seem to use Dalek props to their full potential in the TV series, look at the fairly recent episodes where lots of old Daleks came back only to sit in the background whilst the 2005 models get all the lines.
I really like the look of the Daleks in DTTD, as apart from Asylum of the Daleks (and even then, their appearance was briefly visible) they never popped up in Classic DW again, not even in The Curse of Fatal Death (unless I'm wrong).
I’m getting tired of seeing the bronze time war Daleks. Could we get some other colors please? And no just turning the dome black isn’t enough, we need more.
Best video yet ,they lead a rough life now someone has daleks out there, i think some disappeared on a promotion tour of USA after the films, also the sugar puffs Dalek giveaway . Great to see how they changed and being modular swapped about, so some unknown added the torch and made the new neck to repair damage, this is going to take some re watching, also there was the book the Dalek special that had the special Dalek on it, Terry was famous for re hashing his own scripts I know with my dads generation the Daleks were seen as something separate to the program
@@Dalek6388 I'd love to know what the eye is made up of. both the white slotted plastic tube over the torch and the barrel of the torch, I don't think were actually part of a real torch. I notice the mirrored cone of the light isn't fixed into the housing (as it wobbles in its housing as the dome turns) which makes me think that something behind the bulb/wiring was pushing it out or wasn't countersunk. The barrel/handle also looks like it had a piece of acrylic tube placed over it with a bolt going through to secure it to the end of the stalk.
Thanks for an amazing series. 1: Surprised how often the publicity pics used props with just 2 busted tubes instead of an arm & a gun! 2: First time I've ever known about Nation's two 'Mark 7' toys - wonder where they each ended up? 3: I always thought the stolen Dalek prop stories were a myth or prank - it'd be incredible to know their actual fate? 4: With Nation's props having different origins & ownership to the BBC classic props seen on TV, there must be a whole other story about those & where they've all ended up? Can't wait for series 2.
There's an entire article on the Mark 7 Daleks given away in the Radio Times competition in Issue 3 of Nothing at the End of the Lane (www.endofthelane.co.uk).
Absolutely fascinating and well put together ... Loving the little videos and lots to consider and see! I do worry a little though that you might be putting 2 and 2 together too much re the colours ... For example, when I made my own Dalek from the Radio Times plans, I painted it black with Red/Orange balls, slats and dome ... but I never saw the Haylock strips as I didn't get the comics ... the reason I painted it those colours: because those were the paints we had in the garage, and I liked the contrast of the red with the black ... I'm not sure it registered with me that there were pics in that RT Special either ... Wasn't Nation still writing and working in TV very successfully in the 70s? So I suspect worrying about what colours his Daleks were or whether they had been used on TV or not was not top of his mind. And you do mention that the TV colours were pretty much down to the BBC rather than anyone else ... Also, colours of Daleks as toys depended at the time on available colours of plastics and so on ... so again it might just all be coincidence ... As we can't ask Nation or Haylock or anyone else what was in their minds, it's all speculation anyway, but I know from my discussions with MANY Visual Effects and Merchandise people that often things which seem preconceived or 'worked out' are anything but, and are usually as a result of coincidence or luck!
Glad you are enjoying the videos David! It’s interesting to speculate on some things isn’t it. With regards to the merchandise there is definitely links between the 10th anniversary RT and some of the merchandise. The Weetabix cards drew on them and the Denys Fisher Dalek would have to be a hell of a coincidence if it wasn’t based on Nations Dalek. Even their Cyberman has hints of the Cyberman on the cover. We have footage from goodwood of two Daleks based on the RT Dalek plans that are coloured in the way they suggest so again there is evidence it happened. Maybe the stuff about nations choice of colours AFTER Planet is a bit speculative but it’s clear that beforehand he was making sure he had a Supreme Dalek ready for use on TV. And we know he wanted a red Dalek for his aborted USA idea. So he did have previous! 🙂
I just discovered this series yesterday, and it's great! If you ever wanna branch out into other old Doctor Who stories, I'd definitely be interested in watching that!
Loving all this content, I have been building Dalek kits ever since Sevans produced that mostly accurate but infuriatingly tricky to build kit. Comet miniatures also brilliant kits, now working on a fantastic 3d printed kit
I waited all day at work to come home and catch this episode, and it did NOT disappoint! I love all the extra details you have brought to our collective attention! A suggestion for a future series topic, Daleks on Display - covering the Tussaud, Wilkie, and other Daleks that were displayed to the public. Was there a Dalek in the USA Exhibition trailer? Good luck to all the subscribers for the giveaway.
Superb stuff, as usual. Again, been a fan of your website for many a year, but to see all that info, and new, painstakingly researched stuff is amazing. Thanks, keep it up. Jon. (Thats my real name, not a nod to Pertwee or Green)!
This is fabulous - Terry Nations' estate once sent me a C&D letter as I used to loan out my old Dalek to charity events and fundraisers (Never for profit).... So I had to remove the website and all online contacts for it.
Blackburn stole the Dalek I KNEW IT ALL ALONG!!!!!
A Purple Dalek I want one now 😁 nice to know I'm not the only person who loves these pepperpots maybe even more than their parent series 👍
I’ve heard the Dalek Time Strategist is colored purple

Ha!

Still don't know how you condense all this research into 20ish minutes and yet keep it so compelling.
It’s the casual mention of Cliff Culley’s diary that made my head fall off.
How on Earth (or Venus or Mars) do you do this? Amazing. Don’t stop.

Wonderful series. Thank you. I recall in the mid 60s a huge Dalek presence in TV21...
Thanks!
love those comics
FYI, those 2 missing daleks weren't stolen. They escaped.
I heard they are hiding in the UK countryside. Waiting...
and have lurked for decades, planning to overthrow humanity with a plague that keeps everyone indoors while they run amok outside
I heard they moved into the London sewers as the streets were getting a bit rough...

Best video yet ,they lead a rough life now someone has daleks out there, i think some disappeared on a promotion tour of USA after the films, also the sugar puffs Dalek giveaway .
Great to see how they changed and being modular swapped about, so some unknown added the torch and made the new neck to repair damage, this is going to take some re watching, also there was the book the Dalek special that had the special Dalek on it, Terry was famous for re hashing his own scripts
I know with my dads generation the Daleks were seen as something separate to the program
Watched all five...fascinating and brilliant!
Thank you very much. There should be six though!👍🏻
Brilliant and fascinating. Thank you so much!
Wow! I never knew this. What a history about these props.
Thank you for this series so fascinating and brilliant so many new Dalek facts & they look beautiful
You are welcome!
Fantastic work. I'm not surprised it took 15 years of research. there's not one iota of detail missing. Good work!
Still a few grey areas we’d like to uncover yet though!
Mark Smith I think somebody had spotted it was, in part at least, an Ever Ready torch?
Thanks for an amazing series.
1: Surprised how often the publicity pics used props with just 2 busted tubes instead of an arm & a gun!
2: First time I've ever known about Nation's two 'Mark 7' toys - wonder where they each ended up?
3: I always thought the stolen Dalek prop stories were a myth or prank - it'd be incredible to know their actual fate?
4: With Nation's props having different origins & ownership to the BBC classic props seen on TV, there must be a whole other story about those & where they've all ended up?
Can't wait for series 2.
We have some details on our website about the whereabouts of some of the classic Daleks
There's an entire article on the Mark 7 Daleks given away in the Radio Times competition in Issue 3 of Nothing at the End of the Lane (www.endofthelane.co.uk).
Highly recommended too! I’ve just bought the PDFs for myself to read on my week away! (Jon)
Absolutely brilliant please do more after the holiday!
We will do. Gav deserves a well earned break!
Incredible research and utterly compelling. Thank you. 🥂
Thank you Roger!

Dalek 63•88 you’re welcome. I hope you now have a good rest with a nice cup of tea.
I just discovered this series yesterday, and it's great! If you ever wanna branch out into other old Doctor Who stories, I'd definitely be interested in watching that!
We will see! We will be sticking mainly to Daleks for the time being but you never know!
This series has been amazing 👌 I've learnt so much from these episodes!
Only just found your channel. Great stuff, thanks!!!
Glad you like the videos! 🙂
Loving all this content, I have been building Dalek kits ever since Sevans produced that mostly accurate but infuriatingly tricky to build kit.
Comet miniatures also brilliant kits, now working on a fantastic 3d printed kit
Excellent series, well done !
Thank you!
Thanks so much ,absolutely splendid.
That’s a good idea. One to ponder!

Superb stuff, as usual. Again, been a fan of your website for many a year, but to see all that info, and new, painstakingly researched stuff is amazing. Thanks, keep it up.
Jon. (Thats my real name, not a nod to Pertwee or Green)!
Thank you Jon!
Wonderful piece of investigative work.
Well done.
Enjoyed a lot.
Thank you!
This is fabulous - Terry Nations' estate once sent me a C&D letter as I used to loan out my old Dalek to charity events and fundraisers (Never for profit).... So I had to remove the website and all online contacts for it.
🙁
Found your channel through recommended, very informative and ineresting content
Glad you enjoyed it!
