The animation in this is glorious! I’m so happy to see this coming over to the west. I’ll be buying day 1. I think £25/game is totally reasonable looking at the amount of work that’s gone into this. I really hope this sells well as more visual novels at this budget would be fantastic!
I am sooooo looking forward to this! Never knew about famicom detective, but i was reeeaaally looking for something like this and finally this will be available! I saw it a few weeks ago and got excited for the first time in a while. I just know that i'll like it. 😊
I would not qualify both games as "visual novels" : they are simply "adventure games". Visual novels are a sub-genre of adventure games, with much less freedom, interactions and puzzles than in adventure games like the Famicom Detective Club. The problem is : people call Japanese adventure games "visual novels", only because those adventure games are made in Japan. There are also Western games that ARE visual novels though, like Katawa Shoujo, but Famicom Detective Club is not like this one.
The Switch is region free and if you switch the language to English (or any other language) that the game also supports, then the dialogue and audio will also switch. Nintendo released a website to check which languages a game supports (u have to search with Japanese keywords) @ www(.)nintendo(.)co(.)jp/lang/?lngq=%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%83%9F%E3%81%89%E3%82%93&lngtab=all They only show games that have been released so we’ll have to wait for famicom detective club to release before checking! So we might be able to import the Japanese physical editions as well
Unfortunately, the physical Japanese version has only Japanese and Chinese texts for both games. It is like the Japanese version of Hyrule Warriors : only Japanese language, even if you switch the language on your Switch.
I can’t seem to be able to buy them seperate in Europe. It’s a full €60. That’s a bit too much imo. I’ll wait for a sale. Also dissapointed there isn’t a standard physical release.

as an aa fan I do love those mystery-esque light novel kinda games, but I’m not sure I wanna buy them separately over the dgs collection... I also really like the trial sections and how it adds actual engaging gameplay to the light novel format, and I almost exclusively use the touch controls because I’m worried about wearing out my A button, haha. So I wonder if this would feel incomplete or missing elements to me. But I do like the idea of a longer-form story, and I like how good the art style is, and how the people are actually in the setting as opposed to overlaid on top
Yeah I didn’t even think about that last part. In most other VN’s it always comes off to me as cheap that the characters are cardboard cutouts in front of a background. Moreover, I need gameplay to keep me active, which is one of the only reasons I can tolerate some games in the genre like AA. Were it not for the engaging and very emotive courtroom battles with constant pointing and slamming on desks, the game would’ve lost me.
@@PikaLink91 Sounds like you're more a fan of the adventure game side of Japanese narrative games, which is the category Ace Attorney belongs to (for that matter Another Code as well). In Japan there's a distinction between narrative games with more interaction and problem solving (Adventure games) and the kind with minimal interaction, with gameplay consisting of mostly just narrative choices (Visual Novels). Western fans tend to refer to everything as VN. If you haven't already, you might want to check out games like AI: The Somnium Files, Tokyo Dark or Spirit Hunter series (Death Mark and NG) just to name a few.

The Silver Case 2425 deluxe version The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin. I say the only case that will need solving is who murdered my wallet in July?😖
For visual novels to gain more respect, the market needs more titles like Fam Detective Club and The House in Fata Morgana--not harem and furry fantasies.
I was looking at the screen of the Famicom version, and even there it is beautiful for a Famicom game! Can’t wait to play it, and Japanese voice acting is perfect! No need t’for a rubbish English Voice acting! 😉
I confirm, as an European myself. But I already bought the Japanese collector physical game (I can understand Japanese). I do not know why Europe is the only region where both games are sold together digitically, instead of two digital separate games in America and Japan. The best thing would have been to give us the two options (even three, if there was a physical Western version) : two separate digital games, or both games together in a single digital version for a price that is smaller than the two separate games.
@@Artemas_16 No, unfortunately. I checked again just now on Japanese eShop page about the game : only Japanese, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese on the Japanese version. :-( So, because this is the case on Japanese digital eShop version, I think it will be same on Japanese physical version (and I have already read this information elsewhere on Internet : no English language on Japanese physical version of the game).
"If you wanted a little hook to get you in, the Metroid guy worked on this." Considering Other M, and these games seem to be more story-based, that doesn't give me hope.
That's ridiculous. Other M was 20 years after Famicom Detective Club. They're cult classic in Japan specifically for their story. Would hate to drop the money on these 2 games and they also be short and not enough gameplay hours to justify the price.
Cool, but I'd like if the original NES versions get localised too, because I prefer the aesthetics (and real hardware) of older consoles -and I don't have a Switch.-
16:50 So maybe it really isn’t so horrible when localizations change names to something that is more convenient for us non-Japanese after all huh? I played this horror game called White Day which takes place in Korea, and all of the names, I guess for the sake of immersion, were kept in Korean, so I struggled really hard to remember or even distinguish who was who. Even my character’s love interest who drives the whole plot I would repeatedly forget the name of. They were names like Han So-young, Han Na-young, Choi Eun-mi, Kim Seong-a, Seol Ji-hyeon. Like I’m not trying to be racist here, but are these names, or am I learning how to code? I have a slightly easier time with Japanese names, but let’s just say that in Ace Attorney, while I don’t buy for a second that the game itself doesn’t take place in Japan but the US, I am happy the names were changed to things like Phoenix, Larry, Mia etc.

makes sense you named your character shinji, im pretty sure they share a voice actress judging by the trailer
The animation in this is glorious! I’m so happy to see this coming over to the west. I’ll be buying day 1. I think £25/game is totally reasonable looking at the amount of work that’s gone into this. I really hope this sells well as more visual novels at this budget would be fantastic!
Stop supporting digital-only English releases, for fucks sake
I am sooooo looking forward to this! Never knew about famicom detective, but i was reeeaaally looking for something like this and finally this will be available! I saw it a few weeks ago and got excited for the first time in a while. I just know that i'll like it. 😊
A game that pronounces your name is Teddy Together for the 3DS. It's weird. It's really cheap, so I recommend trying it out. :D
No one is talking about Bond Buddy Missions, Nintendo x Koei-Tecmo visual novel collaboration, exclusive to Japan on Switch.
I am playing Buddy Mission BOND and this game is very nice, I like it. Like an "interactive manga", with some puzzles.
Played the English patched rom 15 years ago. Very good game and was happy that they finally localized it with a full remake to the switch.
I would love to see Ayumi in smash. I'd definitely prefer Phoenix Wright but both would be fun

I'm genuinely hype for this game. The ost give me strong Ace Attorney vibes
I wish this was getting a physical release in he US like Great Ace Attorney.
Is EU getting one?
@@mechashadow As far as I know only Japan is getting a collector's edition. If I knew it had English I would order it, but I can't find information.
A G Sadly, I get the feeling it won’t have English text, if it did...at least you can import.
@@AG-bp3ll The Japanese eshop lists only Japanese and Chinese, so it's probably safe to say the physical version is no different.
@@mechashadow It seems like Japanese and Chinese only. I'm thinking we are stuck digital only outside Japan.
The Switch is region free and if you switch the language to English (or any other language) that the game also supports, then the dialogue and audio will also switch. Nintendo released a website to check which languages a game supports (u have to search with Japanese keywords) @ www(.)nintendo(.)co(.)jp/lang/?lngq=%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%83%9F%E3%81%89%E3%82%93&lngtab=all
They only show games that have been released so we’ll have to wait for famicom detective club to release before checking! So we might be able to import the Japanese physical editions as well
Unfortunately, the physical Japanese version has only Japanese and Chinese texts for both games. It is like the Japanese version of Hyrule Warriors : only Japanese language, even if you switch the language on your Switch.
@@Rudolphhhhhh Aw what a shame!
I was thinking of buying both of these and you guys and gvg helped me to decide for sure to get them
0:51i din't know jon is in this game!!
😂
I can’t seem to be able to buy them seperate in Europe. It’s a full €60. That’s a bit too much imo. I’ll wait for a sale. Also dissapointed there isn’t a standard physical release.
they arent sold separately in uk/ireland
I just saw them like 2 months ago in smash while i was looking at some spirits to see if i maybe can find some that are from games that i didnt play yet. And the ones from this series got my attention since i am a huge phoenix wright fan so i am very happy that we are getting them :D
I am legit excited for this! This and the Ace Attorney chronicles. I wouldve preferred Ayumi over Pichu. Maybe she'll be the end of the new Fighter Pass????
Anyone know if this will be a physical release?
It got a collectors edition in Japan, but there’s no news on if it’s coming west.
famicom detective club or very good on switch Nintendo life UA-cam, this is so amazing Nintendo switch game.
How long is this?
Jon, I checked the UK eShop and you can pre-order Famicom Detective Club for £50 and it includes both titles.
I hope if these games do well that we could see some sort of rerelease of the Satellaview Famicom Detective Club title, for all I know it didn't even get a rerelease in Japan
Edit: I just saw that the protagonist is voiced by the same guy who played Shinji Ikari in Evangellion, so maybe Zion had him in mind subconciously because of that voice? Also as far as I know the protag does not have a canon name
It says a lot when I say I’m excited for this game, when I don’t even like visual novels
I’ve just completed the girl who looked behind and the only thing that upset me was that it ended. I shall be jumping into the missing heir but will be even more sad when I complete that because there aren’t any more yet
as an aa fan I do love those mystery-esque light novel kinda games, but I’m not sure I wanna buy them separately over the dgs collection...
@@sadpotato4931 I admittedly refer to everything that has a lot of reading and static images as VNs as well, but I guess that’s just because I didn’t know better until now. I think you’re right that it is indeed the narrative adventure genre I’m more a fan of. It is nice to know the distinction and I will indeed check out those you mentioned.
I was hoping the art style would look a lot more interesting than this, but I'm still looking forward to them either way.
Yea it looks nice and crisp but too plain.
@@dcta51 Exactly. Better to just stick with the original graphics and an English translation than to try to update it without the proper budget to go all the way and do it right. =/
What exactly were you hoping for? I think it looks pretty good
Add it to the pile of generic looking VN artstyles.
Real shame we're not getting a physical release for these games. I'll definitely get them both but it'd be nice to have it physical.
I can think of one other game off the top of my head where you push the control stick while moving it: RE5. Using a dedicated "Run" button is still an option, however.
Oooh!
I'm excited for this!
I need to know if this is getting a physical American version! I really want it but I only buy physical games because I'm weird lol, devevsating if I miss this AND Phoneix Wright for Switch.
You do know that the physical Japanese version of Ace Attorney on Switch has English text too, right? If you pop it into your English Switch the thumbnail will even correct itself to say Ace Attorney Trilogy.
@@PikaLink91 I knew the physical Japanese version worked but i didnt know how and would prefer to wait if an American version somehow came out lol
@@SMALLSandJOE Didn’t know how? Errr you put it in? Also, why is it important that it’s explicitly an American version? Isn’t it more important that it has English text? I live in Europe and will get European copies whenever possible, so I sort of get where you’re coming from, but I am also not the type to just sit around and wait and hope that something gets released for a certain region, if it’s already available in a language I understand. Like the upcoming Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, I am furious that Capcom once again, as with ALL their other Switch compilations, are giving Europe the finger and only releasing that shit digitally here, so I have to import the physical American version instead.
@@PikaLink91 alright wise guy relax. I just prefer to have a native version if it's available. How is that hard to understand lol
@@SMALLSandJOE First off, drop that wiseguy shit, I was merely stating my opinion, plus I did somewhat agree with you, so dunno where you are getting that attitude from. Second, nothing is hard to understand, if you even read my message. I literally said that I too was frustrated to not be able to get a native version of TGAAC, but that I would still import it if necessary.
This is really intriguing. I'm curious what kind of play time one can expect for each of these, and whether there's anything that would compel multiple playthroughs. Also, Zion, I see your collection in the background of some of your videos, you are fine with the hardcore gamer definition haha.
Will these only be released digitally or will there be physical releases?
Jon is here.
Just waiting for a physical release of Famicom Detective Club!
Played through both games, really found the stories interesting the whole way.
There's a third game in the series, and I hope that comes out too... although since it was a Satellaview exclusive, I'm doubting it.
Huh... I wasn't expecting you to mention it X'D
Jon was wrong btw, in the UK the two games are being sold exclusively as a package, you can't get one without the other.
Super excited to play these games! Hopefully we can also get a physical edition.
How long is each of the games?
its hard for me to imagine Ayumi wavedashing and doing crazy combos in Melee lol
Finally, the mystery to whether the game is good or not has been solved.
Damn. I’m conflicted on these games. I love detective stories, but I could never got into visual novels. I’m not sure if I want give these games a purchase...
i don't think they're split here in the uk, and maybe europe? i dont even know if theyve had pan-europe translations. but im fairly sure it's one sku with both games.
I love detective/mystery games! If you pre order one Famicom Detective game you get $10 off the other one.
So you get a bit of a discount which is good but still the month of July has a ton of releases.
The Silver Case 2425 deluxe version
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin.
I say the only case that will need solving is who murdered my wallet in July?😖
Do I have a surprise for you, comes out on May 14.
For visual novels to gain more respect, the market needs more titles like Fam Detective Club and The House in Fata Morgana--not harem and furry fantasies.
I got this and i'm loving it alot so far
I bought them and excited to play both of them!😊❤️💙
I was looking at the screen of the Famicom version, and even there it is beautiful for a Famicom game! Can’t wait to play it, and Japanese voice acting is perfect! No need t’for a rubbish English Voice acting! 😉
I am glad there's no dubs the game is set in Japan and most Japanese don't know english
My name is Jackson so I will call my character Jakku-San
I'm pretty sure you can only buy them together in Europe
I confirm, as an European myself. But I already bought the Japanese collector physical game (I can understand Japanese). I do not know why Europe is the only region where both games are sold together digitically, instead of two digital separate games in America and Japan. The best thing would have been to give us the two options (even three, if there was a physical Western version) : two separate digital games, or both games together in a single digital version for a price that is smaller than the two separate games.
@@Rudolphhhhhh Isn't japanese edition still have english included?
@@Artemas_16 No, unfortunately. I checked again just now on Japanese eShop page about the game : only Japanese, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese on the Japanese version. :-(
So, because this is the case on Japanese digital eShop version, I think it will be same on Japanese physical version (and I have already read this information elsewhere on Internet : no English language on Japanese physical version of the game).
Let me know if we get a physical release or not.
"If you wanted a little hook to get you in, the Metroid guy worked on this."
Considering Other M, and these games seem to be more story-based, that doesn't give me hope.
That's ridiculous. Other M was 20 years after Famicom Detective Club. They're cult classic in Japan specifically for their story. I only played the second one thanks to the fan translation of the Super Famicom remake, but it's a great gruesome story about murder and ghost mysteries.
People really need to stop bringing up that single one lame game whenever Sakamoto's impressive career is talked about. We heard it, you guys hate that game, we know.
I'm really excited for this game!
I don't get it, the trailer was pretty clear that these were two different games of the same franchise. Why you thought they were like Pokémon, the same with minor changes? Seriously, it really is strange how a lot of people thought the two Detective Club games were the same with minor changes. Please comment how you reached that conclusion.
I Looovvveee games like this. Loved Hotel Dusk back in the day.
I haven't got a switch buuuut now??
I think I want one...
But would these games work on switch light ?? Silly question but I know nothing of the switch.... :/
Yep, they would work perfectly on the Lite :). Most Switch games work well on the lite, apart from a handful of games that don't support handheld mode like Just dance and 1-2 switch. You can also buy separate joy-cons to use with some games if you prefer. Hope you enjoy if you get them!
@@Emma-iu1te Ooooh good to know. Thanx for that. Appreciate it. 😄😄
Never really given the Switch any thoughts bcos Nintendo don't usually do enough of what I call "real grown up games" for my liking.
Used to play the Nes, Snes, GBA etc back in the day and I loved to bits but growing into my teenage yrs I switched (pun intended. 😉) to the Ps2, then 3, now 4...
But ooooh man happy days if I could get one.
And I was even surprised to find that DOOM'S of all games is out for it!! Never thought I'd live to see the day?? #verysurprised. Lol 😆🤣😂
Yet another game that I would be so excited to buy if it had a physical release, but I’ll probably skip out on this one until then...
Are these games worth the price?? That's my only concern. I recently purchased Tangle Tower after great reviews and while it was a very good game, it felt short and not worth the $20, I actually regretted buying it after I finished it.
Would hate to drop the money on these 2 games and they also be short and not enough gameplay hours to justify the price.
I just checked the total playtime and it's pretty short for a visual novel
Also have to consider that it originates from the Famicom.
Really want them but going to wait and see if they do a physical release in the future🤞🏻😭
Cool, but I'd like if the original NES versions get localised too, because I prefer the aesthetics (and real hardware) of older consoles -and I don't have a Switch.-
Im really excited for these games! LEGIT
Jealous of the fact zion can play this text heavy game in a car. Would be dead from travel sickness in 1 minute.
Hay can y'all do a vedio on good nintendo switch lite games when someone first buys a switch lite
Cool. I might get it after playing Buried Stars
I love detective games. 🕵️♂️. My genre
Hope umineko when they cry will be the next remake on switch
I am really mad there is 0 english voice acting? I may not get it because of this , Is it worth getting even with 0 english?
I know I'd love this game, just not at full price. I love VNs and Ace Attorney so this is definitely up my alley, but not at 50 quid.
I miss Hotel Dusk and Another Code...🥲
