    Will this Fleck 5600 SXT Air Injection Iron Eater Filter work for removing colloidal iron?

    I had to do 5 back washes to get clear water. The fellow on this video doesn't spend any time telling you the unit has a 39:00 minute "BD" brine draw after the "BW" backwash, so I just kept pushing the regen button when the BD came up. I called, and the girl at Aplus said the brine draw was to draw in air. However, I waited until the water was clear to let the entire process run.

      Odd, ours ran clear after the initial back wash.

      Thanks for posting this - I wasn't sure what was going on with the 39 minute BD function. I also interrupted this and ran the backwash two more times for a total of three before letting the `brine draw' do it's thing.

    Maybe a silly question, but is it possible to back-flush/drain back into the well itself? My system is not near my septic and I know it’d be putting debris back down, but didn’t know if it would be rough to filter back through or not.. also how many gallons does the backflush typically use?

    Was Going to add this in addition to my water softener that i am going to re-bed right (anotherwords remove the gravel/Resin and replace it) now I was thinking of adding this in edition to the water softener do you advise this? I have also heard that there is no regulation of products like this out there. so many dealers sell these as a Band aid on a Bullet hole. type of situation. Some work and some are a Gimmick. Some will not do very much and if so not for Very Long. Can you Speak on this. Only Reason i say this is i know that most well systems will not produce H2O Or water one would want without Salt and Chlorine and the only way to get rid of the Sulfur or Rotten Egg Smell is to use a Water Aerator So another words spraying the water into the air to help Separate the water from the Sulfur Gas with Chlorine after you Oxidize the sulfur Gas if the iron is 5 PPM this system will clog pretty quickly correct me if im wrong and please let me know. Also non Chlorinated water is a breading ground for Bacteria as well? Now i know a little bit about this I would like to hear your thoughts on this. I don't know everything but Lets say I paid real close attention in AP Chemistry. I would like to hear your thoughts on this Please ? I see this is a 4 year old video but nothing changed in this process in 4 years its still the same Principle of H2O (Water) Iron Sulfur (FES) gas Chlorine ( CL) and Water Aeriation so to speak? Please Advise? Ps anyone reading this remember if you have a water filter with a clear housing. i know you think this is great so you can see how dirty the filter is but when you expose water to light sunlight but light in general you are making it worse you will now have Algae in your water so a clear housing is a no no. Im not trying to be a post troll i just know a little about this? Please Advise I am not saying your wrong or that this wont help but fpr how long and at what Maintenance cost ? not a set it and forget it type there is just no way.

    Was the deflector added to this kit recently? I remember not using the larger plastic resin backflush guard on riser tube they were shipping in the kit an the stainless brine line screen.not recommended to use.

    If you use Pex pipe your not going to be able to shut the left "bypass valve" unless you crush or cut the backwash tube. Also, you cannot screw on a 45 to direct the backflow out the side even with the bypass removed. It appears to be a design flaw. I have a shutoff before and after the unit, so I just let mine go straight like you did here. If I ever need to shut that valve I will have to cut the Pex.

    Are the valve heads interchangeable for a softener to an aio? For example, could you use the 5600sxt softener valve for an aio if you reconfigure the program and add a check valve where the brine draw would connect?

    • @AplusWaterLLC
      @AplusWaterLLC  Рік тому

      Hi, The valves are built very similarly, but to convert the softener valve to an air injection valve, you would need to reconfigure the programming, add a check valve where the brine line connection is, replace the flow controls to suit the difference between the softener resin and the filter media, and add a check valve to the inlet side of the valve (to make sure your air pocket does not escape). A lot of times, it ends up being fairly close (if not better) in price to buy a brand new system than try to convert everything over. Hope that helps!- Aplus Water

    Can I combine this unit with a water softener?

    • @AplusWaterLLC
      @AplusWaterLLC  2 роки тому

      Yes! Air injection systems are great at removing iron but will not remove hardness, so many people choose to have both an Iron Eater and a softener to get completely soft, iron free water! Let us know if you have any other questions, we would love to discuss this more! -Aplus Water

    what are the master settings on your valve? I have the exact same model from another company but they sent some weird instructions. I wanna make sure this is programmed correctly. it is an iron filter. they also said to let the tank fill and sit for 24 hrs to let the new media hydrate. is that a nessisary step?

    • @AplusWaterLLC
      @AplusWaterLLC  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, We have a separate video that goes through every step of the Fleck 5600 SXT air injection Iron Eater. Also, it is very important to let the media hydrate especially if you have carbon media. If you do not let it soak properly, you can cause damage to the valve! - Aplus Water

      Yes, it's how the system removed the sulfur smell - they dissipate quickly. It's just air- not carbon dioxide (like a soda)

    What does the air injection do?

    • @den0matic
      @den0matic 5 років тому +2

      I am a newbie, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but in my case, having ferrous, or clear water iron, the air injection causes the dissolved iron in the water to oxidize for the media to be able to filter it out. Which in my case seems to be doing just that.

    • @mk061g9
      @mk061g9 5 років тому

      I think it also helps to remove rotten egg smell

    • @Rottrsq
      @Rottrsq Рік тому

      It's an ion filter system & a hydrogen sulfide filter also. The air gap at the top of the tank oxidizes the sulfur smell and removes it - also makes tiny air bubbles in house water which quickly dissipate. Had same kind of system for 20 years - works well.

    How often do u have to back wash and how many estimated gallons is wasted in backwashing?

    • @AplusWaterLLC
      @AplusWaterLLC  Рік тому

      Hi! How often the system will regenerate depends on your programming. For the Iron Eaters, we recommend every single day, but depending on your water quality, there's a little bit of wiggle room there. Each regeneration uses about 100 gals of water over the entire cycle which lasts about an hour or so. Hopefully that helps!

    • @AplusWaterLLC
      @AplusWaterLLC  Рік тому

      @@markherring3513 For city water, you wouldn't need an air injection system as shown in the video since most cities pretreat the water with chlorine to remove Iron. An uplow or backwashing activated carbon filter would suffice in most city water applications to remove chlorine smells and tastes. These regenerate less often and for a shorter amount of time, or in the case of an uplow filter, not at all. -Aplus Water
