I've got the PSI's too, amazing speakers. They just smashed all the other speakers I tested in my studio. I run them with a PSI sub, incredibly accurate. I have so much more control over the 3D content of my mixes. I would say they sound like looking over the horizon, really top notch.
Ofcourse they are amazing speakers, thats why they cost almost 4 thousand euros per set.
PSI Audio: simply the best! I have PSI A21 M since 2012. Just incredible how friends who come to listen to them, all say: I didn't new so good sound exist!
I spent a year auditioning monitors including Adam, Genelec, Focal, B&W, and JBL, but the PSI monitors stood head and shoulders above all. The A-25M 3 way and the A-225 sub are astonishingly flat (+/- 2db from 28-20k hz). Expensive, but from an accuracy standpoint, they compete with anything out there at any price.
I've recently upgraded from Rockit 6 to a pair of KSD C88 reference which is quite a jump (from 400€/pair to 2500€/pair) but the sound is unbelievable. The stereo image, the detail not to mention that they do go down to 32Hz. i have a pretty well treated room and i find myself listening much more to orchestral music because of the incredible sound stage they provide. And mixing on low levels works surprisingly well. So yeah, i'm quite happy right now.
Regarding the question: _"What speakers are you using and what are your dream speakers?"_
My answer: _"Yes."_
Basically, I am using my dream speakers. PSI A25-M in conjunction with a Neumann KH750DSP subwoofer for insane extension down to 18Hz. Only recently got them but they are SO insanely precise, open, transparent, detailed, forward... All the good buzzwords and more. My life is now complete.
PSI audio, the best phase response, impulse response is great.
I own a pair of PSI Audio A21-M monitors. In my opinion they are the best because they have built-in analog technologies such as the adaptive Output Impedance, Phase Response Compensation for producing correct phase alignment sound which is the most important feature in a speaker. Plus more...
I actually use a pair of Contours S1.4 Dynaudios, powered by a Bryston 4BST-Pro (Van Den Hul cables) for about 5 years now, in a ridiculously neutral, flat and 'calibrated' room for the speakers.
For now I cannot even think about to change anything in my life. Anyone who gets in my room just cannot believe the sound. The stage is an absurd, the extension, from top to bottom (mainly the bass extension, wow, down to 41hz), being totally linear, not hyped at all. The dispersion is another winner - basically 180 degrees, I can walk through the room and the sound keeps the same. It's my dream come true.
Even a minor change in the EQ can be noticed clearly. Reverbs, balances, everything, I feel like I'm inside the mix. Pan! Oh man, if you minimally turn right or left it's like you're wearing headphones.
My dream is to have an acoustically treateed room
Владимир Аракелян , make it
Definitely invest in the acoustic treatment of your room before you spend a lot of money on studio monitors. After having moved to a new house, I spent more than 5 times the amount on room treatment than what I spent on my entry level Rokits. Now they sound incredible. Without the treatment, even the most expensive monitors would sound like shit.
Yes a dream we share my friend
My too
100% the right dream to have!
I just designed a 5.1 studio room with 8030’s and a 7050 and a Trinnov system - sounds EPIC
But Paul from Trinnov happened to tell me on the way out that PSI’s would take it to another level
I am KEEN to find our
Currently I'm using Neumann KH420. They sound amazing!
I´m using a pair of Focal Alpha 80´s an i LOVE them!
Currently using the Adam A7X's but I have to say the tweeters and the woofers sound like 2 different speakers mashed together. I love the highs I feel the clarity and stereo imaging is great for the price but the low mids aren't as smooth as the highs are and it's hard to discern sounds from one another.
My dream monitors are the Hedd Type 30's but they cost nearly 6k for a pair and are huge. So I will probably upgrade the type 20's in a couple years time when I can afford to drop 3k on a new pair.
OSCO Music thats true, I struggle to hear bass a bit on the ax7s.
Love them though!
I cranked the low fader on the back to compensate that
Use Adam A7X from 2012 )
I would have been interested too hear more detail on your thoughts as to the comparison between the Eve 305 and the PSI A17M. By the way the second 5" driver does not go from 350 to 30k, it goes from35 Hz or so to 3k. There would be no reason not to let it go without a high pass filter-you would be throwing away a lot of bass headroom. Moreover, if it was a dedicated mid driver it would have a lighter cone and be visibly different. Other manufacturers call this configuration a 2 1/2 way, and for good reason.
I'm using those exact KRK's. I had always listened to music on bass-heavy 2.1 systems and was used to having lots of bass. In comparison, those KRK's didn't have that, so I was surprised to hear you state the opposite.I like them, but I always check the low-end of my mixes on headphones as well, I find it hard to hear on the KRK's. Not sure what my dreams monitors would be!
I think you're addicted to the low end! Hihihihi :)
NS-10m all day but would love a pair of PSI for sure.
KRK cones are built by Focal company.... in case no one knew that hehehe.... KRK's are not fully flat monitors, they tend to be really boomy.
So when mixing and you take the mix somewhere else like a club, the mix tends to sound like you didnt put enough bass into the mix, because the monitors are colored with extra bass curve.
Im surprised you guys didnt have Genelec's & Auratones there :)
I love my Solo6BE monitors, because they still have a great balance at low volumes + my room is not ideal 'theoretically', so no need for a dream monitor. You get a good pair and work with them for a long time so you know them. That saves a lot of money! I do like the K&H (now NM) KH310 to mix on. Still I would keep the Solo6 for tracking, because I know them well.
The KH310 have a closed cabinet design with great detail. Sure there are better & more expensive speakers, but they will only be better if you have a propper treated room. ...and I do not mean foam treated with that. If you do not have a fully acoustically treated room, there is no point to spend THAT much more cash, say...i.e. on ATC, because it will marginally be a bit better. But the main question is...do you need it? Really? i mean...most people do not need it, but want to show off with expensive gear on stuff that can easilly be done on cheaper gear. Be my guest...it's your money!
I'm currently using the Adam T7V monitors. I love them and will keep them until I upgrade to the A7X's or better. I'm happy with the Adam monitors but would probably add the Yamaha NS10's for mixing rock and metal.
Currently I am using JBL LSR 308.
same, love em
Im using the lsr 305s
great, but bit to weak for bass range.
yeah i mix bass with senn hd 25 headphones
@@NicholasPanico for a 5 inch speaker the lsr305 goes pretty low, not low enough for me but I can live with it. Maybe if you buy the lsr308 you can hear more. I also can't rlly mix bass on headphones because I've got the akg k240's, great but almost bassless headphones
PSI Audio are the BEST !
found this treasure - I'm using Genelec 8050s as I Like the dynamics - my dream would be larger Genelec 1s or Neuman 3 ways with the dome midrange - KH 310s?
I'm using the KRK rockit 5, but I now got the NS10's from Ebay and wait till it's delivered. And the NS10's are my dream speakers!!!! I hope they'll help to improve my Mixes.
And? How have they been?
Great
@@chiller9601 Nice👌🏽
I'm an old guy & really used to NS 10s. trying to work on new set of speakers & enjoying the sound of it. but if i compare my mixes from Yamahas & others still prefer the sound on those mixed in yamahas. Though I kind a like the focal SM9. because it has focus mode.
Wow, no. You got both he KRK series and the NS10 wrong. The good KRK speakers looked indeed like pyramids but those were the E8, not the Rokit series. The main virtue of them was that they had no limiters on their overdesigned amps, so they didn't have that compressed sound you describe on all these active speakers you featured in this breakdown.
Except for the NS10. They are passive so they don't have a hidden limiter. As with the KRK E8, you can blow them away if you are not careful. Also, the mid-range of the NS10 is great because the crossover point is not in the middle of the vocal main range nor the snare crack, not because of the speed of the paper cone. Actually that paper cone is not too stiff which performs exactly the opposite of what you describe. What you are actually hearing is great dampening and no fake extensions due to its sealed box.
Ha. El Loco calls BS! ... XD
Well said!! There was no mention of the fact that the NS 10s are still king primarily because of their sealed enclosure, NOT their paper cones.
Did you know 'El loco' was the nickname of former Ecuadorian president Abdalá Bucaram? just a quick fact
All I know is Yamaha's NS 10 are the best for studio monitors. They sound like crap on regular music and all that have stated this. This what makes them great studio monitors. This is from web info of people that are pros and use them to mix on.
@@midiman5045 so no first hand experience but forums "wisdom"... Good.
Dream monitor speakers: EvE SC3012, of course. The “Beasts” with crisp and depth, with character and authority.
I'm using Hedd Type 05's with a Sub 7, and almost can't imagine a better setup for my room. The only way up from there is probably Genelec Ones, ATC, PMC, PSI or Neumann. Those would be endgame monitors, but deserve a better audio interface, world clock, better room and isolation, decoupling, etc. So for just production and mixing I'm right at the top-end.
My dream monitors are the PSI A17s, in white, I am glad that they are your favorites, too. My idol, Boris Blank from Yello, produces on them, so they MUST be good ;-)
I confirm they are absolutely awesome. They are outstanding. I’m easy to please but hard to impress. The PSI Audio are really impressive
I’ve got the Yamaha NS-10M Studio for the last 25 years
Currently will use hs7's and sub. My dream monitors is Focal sm9's
Vagif Mukhtarov Hey, I am considering to add a sub to my hs 7s. Could you please share your experience with and without sub?
Sorry, but i cant. İ dont have sub yet. But HS7 and sub its great combo.
ua-cam.com/video/_i4IKdVX9RU/v-deo.html
4:20 You basically cannot hear frequencies below 100Hz?!
Did you ever hear 50 or 60Hz humming? I guess you were off by an order of magnitude here...
Or did you mean the NS10 specifically?
I was fortunate enough to have done a blind side-by-side monitor comparison in one of my recording classes in college. We compared Rokit 5s, NS-10, Tannoy 502 passive (older model) and active, some lower end Mackies, Adam A7x and JBL LSR 305. I liked the sound of the Adams the most, but found the active Tannoy 502s to be a close second. I've had the 502s for a couple years now and have no complaints aside from a slight lack in low end which can be attributed to the smaller driver size. If I could make the purchase again, I'd go with 802s.
got the neumann kh310. i'm very satisfied with them. dream speakers would be pmc, atc, lipinski or strauss. depends on the room. a friend of mine have b&w nautilus. same as in the abbey road or peter gabriel studio. these are amazing. for big room studios only. i'm forced to build a new studio in the next three weeks. my new control room has 40 square meter. so it's a little thin with the kh310. maybe. i'll give some atcs a try in a few month. than i will see, or better: hear :)greetings from germany/nürnberg
I’m using JBL LSR4326p’s, super rare Roland RSM 150’s, Yamaha NS10 studios and my vintage Auratone 5c mix cubes. I’m not really feeling the JBL’s so I think I’m going to save up for some focal twin 6b’s but those Eve’s look awesome! Thanks for the video!
I'm using a pair of RCF Ayra 4 (I don't have the space needed for bigger monitors, instead I add a Presonus T8 sub when dealing with bass guitar). RCF is an italian brand you don't see often. I compared them side by side to the KRK Rokit 4s which have almost the same specs. The RCF blew them away. Much more detail in the mids while the KRKs, like you say and you can read on so many forums, sound a bit compressed. Plus, the RCF have lower self-noise (hiss) than the KRKs. That choice was easier than I thought.
PSI A21-M
Are the Psis still your mains?
adam audio t5v with a yamah hs8s sub dream monitoring setup : any atc monitoring system
Hey here are some monitors for £350 (krks) let's compare them with some that cost £1500 (PSI) but fail to mention is that none of this matters without some room treatment.
I’m using the Eve sc307’s. I really
Like them. Powerful and not excessively revealing
Im using the Presonus Sceptre S8’s & Yamaha HS80’s
I am using alesis monitor ones, Behringer ms40, and Behringer truth b2031A. My dream speakers are Yamaha NS 10, ATC SCM 25A. and the Focal twin6.
I run vxt krk w/ adam 10 sub, recently in a reasonable sized room. Right now im feeling confident with my setup. Sub is so important for me, dont know how you can mix without it. An equally brilliant benefit besides hearing (and you can feel with your hand!) what youre doing down there is what they talk about in the video, my krk:s actually dont even have to try with the sub and because the sub is filtered out for them, they represent the mid and high much more effortlessly
I have been using Fostex PM841 active 3 ways for the better part of 8 years now and I love them. I only use one of them while I mix in mono and I only use both to enjoy the final product... They are an amazing monitor and it's no surprise when Fostex have been in the studio business almost longer than most... Who remembers the cassette multitrack? I was only a kid but I wanted one so bad.... Now I'm showing my age....
Hi … I used to have the Fostex X15 4 track cassette recorder - got a lot of use out of it back in the '80s.
Monitoring with Maudio BX8 but would love ATC or Barefoot monitors
I'm using the Adam audio f5s and they just sound amazing! They're very balanced without focusing too much on the mids and even if they have just 5" woofers and the manufacturer claims that they go down until 50hz' I can hear notes under 40hz! And the highs are just amazing! I could hear sounds that I wasn't able to heard in songs that I listened to over 100 times! Anyway, I'm really curious how the PSI Audio sound! They look so strange to me!
JBL LSR308 and KRK 10" sub baby! I've listened to it vs. HS8's and I gotta say, the HS8's have a flatter response, but my setup is just pleasing to listen to
I use the PSI A17M. Love them! ;)
Kii 3 My dream monitor speakers (with the bass extender) ... but the price... OMG... even selling my house will not help to get them :(((
Currently using M-AUDIO AV32 & YAMAHA HS5. Dream speakers? I don't know, maybe some Adam or Genelec but - most importantly - a larger and quieter place :))
Adams work just fine for me
My current setup is a pair of JBL 305 mk2's with me currently deciding on grabbing a second pair. My friend just sent me his old Mackie MCU Pro with the extender's on the way. Headphones are beyerdynamic DT 880 pro's for my mixing and mastering with my JBL's. (Yes, I AB between my speakers and headphones and I've learned the translation between them). But honestly, what you have to work with is what you got. I originally started making music with some $20 headphones I bought from an fye.
uff that 02:54 moment, really got me
😂😂psi
I am using Alesis Elevate 5 for mixing and Yamaha HS8 for master.
Both informative and funny!
Just bought some Eve sc307. But my DREAM monitors are ATC SCM24a (of course)
Avantone CLA-10s as mains. Rokit6 CL’s as secondary’s, auratone 5Cs as reference.
neumann KH120A and adam sub8
fantastic combo. love it
Hey Doctor Mix,
I noticed in your older videos that you got PMC TB2Sa+ (or whatever edition) there. Actually the speakers combo was the same as mine "A7x" and PMC's... The only thing is that I can't get any of the low end from the PMC's unless I make at least ~2 meters (~6 feet) triangle with them... So the moment I try to make a smaller equidistant triangle I loose almost everything bellow 100hz and they sound like a cardboard. I read somewhere that PMC themselves recommended placing them in at least 6 feet triangle. I even tried to pseudo anechoic measure them and the results were ugly, like nothing bellow 100hz with measurment mic close to the membrane, while A7xs start to roll off @50hz.
But placing them in a 2 meters triangle brings all the bass back, my guess it had something with transmission line design. The problem is, my room is not that big that I can place them that way and be in the sweet spot of both A7x's and PMC's...
So I guess you were acoustically treating your room properly, and were measuring your room response, do you remember what measurements you got with PMC's and how did they behave ?
Hope that you going to respond.
Cheers
Got the Genelecs 8040B today and they make me feel more awesome in the studio ;)
Im using the fostex pm04, and i would love the adam a77x
Nuemaan kh120s. Flattest monitors ever. Love em.
I'm using the wonderful Neumann KH 120A. Having the sub from Neumann to complete the set would be great
I am currently using Genelec 8020's that I've used for over a decade, and also Genelec 8010's that are my portable monitors. I have Yamaha MT8 headphones for headphones mixing and that's my monitoring set up at the moment.
I would love to add the Neumann KH310A 3 way monitors to my studio to fine detail my mixes and mastering. Either those or the Genelec 8351APM 3 way monitors which would be my first choice if I had the budget.
Yeah I love the 8020, I think they have a great performance for the price and size. Not a fan of the larger models, they sound a bit hollow to me in the mid range (just MHO). But I used to love the 1032C. Otherwise we haven't had any Genelecs in the studio for a long time.
So are you still on the PSI A17M's or have you moved on? Surprised you guys didn't go for the A21M's.
using KRK Rokit 5's atm, had them for a number of years now, I dunno bout dream speakers but I've heard good things about Genelec's and Kali's
Very important to - the Audio Interfaces !! Cause different interface have different sound, for me very important clear, crystal sound and I used for like a 20 years just the RME Interface, pair RME with ADAM - THE BEST !!!
rme baby face pro +adam a7x is good?
All RME is very good, and Adam A7X the same very very cool !!! I use just this companies
@@jimmyacha6888 negative review say over midlow boosting and more high frequency. Don't trust this review?
HALLO THIS IS THE PERFECTION !
CAN YOU SUGGEST ME WHAT STUDIO MONITORS TO BUY
FOR ELECTRONIC MUSIC PRODUCTION
A KEF LS50 WIRELESS
B GENELEC 8050
OR SOMETHING ELSE ?
Krk Rokit RP5
I'm a happy user of Adam S2X. I love them. Dream monitors would be PMC MB3S-A
Only $7,153 CDN/month for 12 months, what could possibly be holding you back.
I'm running:
Focal csm 65
Yamaha Hs8
Avatone Mixcubes
Yamaha hs50 w Subs.....
Just got rid of a pair of
Yamaha ns-10m
Yamaha ns-40m
Those psi's are my dream speaker
Awesome 100k! Love you guys!
Nice vid, thanks! I heard unreal "monitors" (bigger drivers, more for home use- speakers really) that used a helium electric arc, for the highs. I was only a kid, saw them at my friends house, the dad told me all about them. I've still never heard anything quite like it... Spendy, not practical- but very unique.
Congrats on the 100,000!
Roland DS7's & happy with them :)
Like the look of the PSI A17M
Your videos always uplift me cause of your positive attitude . Thanks for the great work!
I'm on KRK VXT8, looking forward to buy Adam A8X. And my dream is a pair of Barefoots )))
Currently I'm using the JBL LSR 305, and hoping to purchase the Avantone Pro Abbey soon, but my dream speakers are the Genelec The Ones (8351A).
Have been woriking a7x for a long time. Now looking for a second pair. I guess i'm going either with krk or avantone mixcubes.
using event 20/20 v3 for 6years now, my dream speakers are atc 150asl but i can only dream about them, but i will probably buy psi a21m in the near future, at least i hope to :)
Suprised to see no genelec monitors. Some of the best monitors around imo. Currenty using 8050B.
Yeah, we just don't have a pair.. I mean we don't really need any more speakers, do we? Hahahaha. But yes, the modern Genelecs sound to me a bit hollow in the mids, especially the bigger ones. They have a pleasant round bass, hi-fi top end, but they are too... optimisitc! (in my view, it's Claudio speaking). I used to love the 1030C though. I'm waiting to see what they'll come up with in the future. But for now we're just so in love with the PSI Audio that I don't see us changing them anytime soon as our mains ;)
I dont think you have enough rings. But anyway my secondary set is a pair of lsr30x. Theyre basically lsr305s except theyre matched within half a db.
Im fortunate to have a pair of ATC SCM100's but passives that im tri amping each drive unit with its own mono block. And have done some major tweaks to the configuration (long story) but there are a few i would like. The Kii 3 looks and gets rave reviews. And i like and think the way they work as cordioid arrangement is a elegant solution to compensating for boundary effects.
I have the tannoy reveal 18 years old now stil going strong here.
Neumann KH 310 with Sub KH 810.
My Dream: Martion Orgon in combination with Martion Bullfrog and Martion Bass Horn!
why no JBL LSR 308 ?
That's for bedroom producers.
krk too
dr mix your grate thank you i use krk 10 and they great but im thinking to get the adams what you think ?
I use KRK rockit 6 (earlier version). Have trouble mixing, considering switching to yamahas or adding auratones
Yamaha is a good choice as a step up from the rokit 6
What's the point of comparing 2600 EURO monitors to much cheeper ones and say they are the best? compare it to ADAM S2V or something in that grade and it will be much more reliable comparison .
APS Aeon and Klassik monitors crush every one of these
I sometimes dare to dream of ATC SCM25As at night. buddy has them in his studio, absolutely insane monitors
Apparently JBL 708Ps are directly comparable, if not slightly better than the SCM25A, but half the price, so you should check them out as well. I know of a smallish room for auditioning microphone designs, designed by one of the leading names in studio design where the decision was made to substitute the 708s for the planned SCM25As because they were thought to sound better, in spite of being two ways and half the price.
Rokkit 5's but they are killing me, they are way to bottom heavy. Takes a while to adjust yourself to them so you don't accidnetly take out too much low end when you are EQing / mixing. The first time I tried to finalise a mix on them and then played it back on another system I was like WTF, where has the bass gone !!!!
Currently using A7X. Clear as fuck. Those PSI's are over $2500. A bit above my budget but I'm sure they are amazing
PSI $2500 for each speaker I assume?
just happened to see this video, Claudio, what do you think about the KRK VXT series? they seem to be not bad
Using HS7s, LSR305 w/ Subs and PreSonus E5...Would love to have the Dynaudio LYD48, Sceptre S8 and Genelec SAM
I don't know if i may ask, but since i'm goin to buy some speaker, and i'd like to not spend too much.... i'd ask, since you mentioned that, which models of the rock it are better and which are best? sorry for bad english and thanks in advance. All the best!:)
Found my dream in the Eve Audio SC3010 *__*
Personnaly, I have a Yamaha cinema Subwoofer in my studio (the Yamaha YST-SW325), and I think that NS10M or SC305 are a really good choice for monitoring with the Sub. Actually I don't have some... just a 5.1 Tehcnics SA EX-320 (amp and speakers). But I bought some AudioQuest cables! And that made a really new quality... the sound is so clear and clean...!!! Would you talk about cables Doc?
So I really would have to buy the a14m because the a17m is way more expensive.. And I'm not making the money to buy them easily hehe but atm I'm using the adam audio T5V and I have to say they are not bad for this amount. So If I have the money at some day in the future I would buy a17m or a14m definetely.
Greetings Cryzor Beatz
I am using Alesis Elevate 5 .I am using this around 1.5 years .what is your openion about this monitors? and l can you give us some tips please.
