I came here, genuinely, to learn something new, as I try to decide on a longer snorkelling fin...I tried to focus...I really did... Might have to take this class twice. This teacher is so fine 😏
Thanks, Im wanting to get new Fins for diving & snorkeling! This was very helpful for choosing the right Fins! My old Fins broke while i was diving because i have been using them for over 18 years, they had perfect Blades for swimming, Sadly their alot expensive now, they were cheaper when i bought them 18 years ago. Thanks for this info!
Hi! I was wondering... What about the c4 Pershing? They have that rubber thing that protects the fins! Does it make them the best carbon fiber fins ever??
Hi Tj, The Pershing blades are ideal for spearfishing and collecting, in particular chasing Crayfish and Abalone in the shallows as the reduced size of the blades allow for less movement caused by swell and waves. However, these are still fantastic fins that we would recommend to divers who are diving down to 30m Max.
Hi there, thanks for the video. I'm looking for a pair of fins to spearfish with and to dive down to catch crays with. I'm usually in waters 5-10m deep. I weigh a 100kg and am 6 foot 3 with a reasonably athletic build. I'm looking for the goldy locks fins that will actually push me under water but won't gas my legs out/raise my heart rate too much. I'm a US 13 and think I have a wider foot. Can you recommend some entry level to intermediate fins, please? Thanks in advance!
Good stuff! I just have a question. I'm a beginner freediver and I have a pair of Beuchat Mundial One fins. I want to upgrade to a fiber glass or similar. But I don't know which stiffness to choose. I'm upgrading because I researched that fiber glass ones are better and I'm always really having a hard time using the Mundial One; my ankles get tired even though I'm using it for almost a year now. I don't know what's the stiffness of the Mundial One and I haven't used any fiber glass ones yet so I don't know if I should get a soft or a medium.
Hey mate, great question. Most divers will tend towards soft these days as it requires less energy. However, if you're a large guy or swim in really strong current then medium may be better for you. Feel free to live chat with us over at spearfishing.com.au or give us a call anytime to discuss what stiffness of freediving fins would suit you. Cheers!
My 2 cents: As you are still a beginner, you may be better off sticking with the Mundial Ones until you have gained more experience - otherwise you may end up wasting a lot of money with little or no improvement; Mundial Ones are decent fins. Meantime, see if you can borrow some other fins to try out. Footpockets vary as well as blades ;)
Long fins = legs move slower, with no burst of speed. Rocket fins = not as much efficiency but you can make bursts of power and speed. Also the Rockets fins you're going to spook game with faster kicks.
I live in the carribean and use open heel fins for spearfishing, is that bad? Most of the time I just float around reefs and shallow water for snappers, but sometimes I go to the drop offs for bigger fish. Is it a problem to use open heel fins with spearfishing/freediving?
if it works for you its fine but most freedivers wear a close hill one with a bigger size to fit their neoprene socks the idea is that with a closed hill or full pocket you transfer better the kick thro the entire blade
I have been diving for many years, yet my calves always get cramps when I use full foot fins. I'd love use use long blade fins, can you recommend a brand that helps this issue? Is it the angle of the blade to foot? Thanks!
Hey mate Ik it’s a bit of a stretch to see if you’ll see this but either try the diveR fins with the marez razor foot pocket or try the c4 tank 25 fins with their c400 foot pockets
the split fin was pioneered by apollo they said it was to reduce the return kick water movement and thus reduce sanding mb thats why he thought its good for cave diving (if it have sand on the bottom)
I’m new to the sport and only have my snorkel fins. I don’t know if I want to invest in carbon fins because I will be fishing water 25 feet and below. Do you think that I need carbon fins/freediving fins?
No, you don't need carbon blades - esp. as a beginner - plastic blades work well and are quite tough, should last years. Replaceable blades can be a useful feature, it keeps your options open - although not a huge deal either way. I broke a blade in extreme conditions after 10 years using the same fins (some months after I lost a blade clip) and I was able to replace the blade & clip (needed to buy a fitting kit for the clip). BTW Some spearos prefer/recommend fibre glass over carbon fibre. Other options are available for my footpockets but I've found plastic blades work very well for me, diving from shore.
How long is a piece of string? Like all shoes and boots: aim for a good fit but not tight. You can pad a slightly loose fin by wearing thicker booties (e.g. 2mm-5mm) but if they are too small there is nothing you can do but return the fins. Also, I find my feet swell significantly in warm Summer water and so I often dive without booties (which also helps stop me overheating in my 5mm spearo suit), in winter my feet shrink significantly and I usually wear 3-5mm thick booties.
Hello, is there any advantage in using the belted fins to the ones that you just slide your feets in? I personally prefer those with no adjustable belt just because of the simple design, more good looking let's say, but, is there any advantage to the belted ones or it's just a question of fitting any feet size? Thank you
Yes, you can often wear diving boots with a proper sole and tread inside strap-back SCUBA fins - handy for special forces and just walking about. I use full foot fins for spearing tho' - specialist spearing/freediving fins usually have full foot pockets but of course you can spear with any fins or without, it is just easier/better with ones designed for the job.
we have so many different fins because the manufacturers keep trying to come up with different gimmicks in hopes you will spend your hard earned cash on their products. I bet this guy could do a video on the different needs and purposes between angle cut sandwiches and straight cut sandwiches ;0)

does dive fins help non swimmers ??
you dont need to know swimming to use fins
finning is a different skill than surface swimming

Does the foot pocket bracket/rail sized standard? What i mean is can I purchase a Mares Razor Fins and change to Omer's blade on it?
Nice video, keep making more
brilliant analysis
Fantastic info!
Great summary, thanks.

Pros and cons on glass vs carbon please, also where they are made I like to buy Aus when I can
Many spearos prefer glass but it is heavier than carbon.
How should my foot sit in the fin? Rather lose (a little movement) or a little tight (a little pressure)?

U dont mention open vs closed toe
I thought that was just personal preference
Did you seriously reccomend split fins for precision and cave diving?? Clearly you've never used one in that environment.
👍
For start short fins are beter i recomend not to dive with long fins in curents.
Aquamundo
Don't talk about scuba if you don't scuba dive, you CAN NOT use split fin in cave diving
