I watched Player in the practice bunker at Lytham about 30 years ago. He threw 6 balls, with force, into the bunker in different places. When the balls came out, they ran gently at the hole like putts. When he had hit them all, the worst one was 18 inches away, 2 were on the edge of the hole, and 3 were in. I've been to many opens, but watching that really stunned me.
As much as I loved Arnie and Jack in my opinion the greatest was Gary. Coming from South Africa with no money and a family back in South Africa he had the toughest road to achieve success. The best bunker player for sure. Thank you.
Wow. Makes it look so simple. I always feared bunkers, entering the sand with despondency. Having watched that over and over I now have confidence to get out 9/10 times. Thanks Mr Player.
I remember practice round muirfield 92 I was watching all the golfers then I saw Gary Player I spoke to my friend loud enough for the black knight to hear I wonder if he hit a bunker shot. Gary obliged even a 20 year old golf fan we all knew he’s the greatest bunker player of all time. Thanks for posting this video
Has anyone ever seen Gary Player leave a ball in a bunker? I have never seen it happen during lessons, practice, or tournament play, but I'm sure it has happened. Maybe the last time was when he was 10-years-old.
I use Mr Player's "Strike the Match" philosophy also with some wedge shots around the green. Instead of trying to hit the ball with the club, I have the ball on the wedge in the shortest possible time. It's greatly improved the % of my up and downs.
I do not consider myself as a weekend golfer, but I have just found out that my bunker-knowledge is so awful that Gary Player will think something else.
I had a fit in bunkers yesterday, that were at least 4" deep, I didnt choke up on the club and needless to say after multiple attempts got mad and just swung like a mad man with not setting a stance. Is it as simple as choking up on the club?
Best lesson on bunker shots I've ever seen. Thank you, Mr. Player. (And thanks for posting this, Back9Show.)

Toughest road? Sorry mate but there's this guy named Trevino who would probably disagree. 😏

Gary Player is the bunker magician.
Such an athletic person for his age. Hope I can be half as athletic when I'm forty, let alone 80 years old.
Incredible.
I remember Park City Utah Win Seniors Tournament Pro sand play
was The Greatest
Good instruction. That works, same as Seve.

Gracias Mr. Gary Player!
You know I was playing golf one day with my friend Buddy Speedbuckle and he told me the best way to learn bunker shots was to watch Gary Player
Buddy is a smart man.
@@winstonsmith11 And Gary is even smarter
"I usually put my mother in law there"!
excellent as always. a great teacher, and not a bad vid despite the DOUCHE blocking the camera.. smh
So fun while he teaches
Lee Trevino justifiably claimed that Player was the best sand player ever.
The most important thing in a bunker..... is the sand.
Wow very informative
hallmarks of a genius
Gary looks like ME doing my Gary Player impersonation.
The Bunker master.
This video should be called "Gary Player in a bunker"
nice to see the old mother-in -law gets her credit

Is it as simple as choking up on the club?
Does he have to leave the golf box in the bunker for advertising?
What is his right grip? Neutral or strong? Thks.
You have Gary Player, and hired a schmuck as a cameraman?
9 Majors !! Whoa..
It looks like your hitting towards the heel of the club. Is that correct?
Why is someone standing there blocking the camera so we can' t see the shots ?????????????
I think Seve learnt from him. But Seve was good. So is Ernie from a bunker.
They both learnt from Gary
careful!
i think hes very funny
A gentleman
2 stroke penalty on each shot for touching the sand
you can't show us you contact sand.
Love to know the reason for the dislike!?
