I grew up in the 70’s and my dad who sang with a gospel quartet had that classic studio recorded Brooklyn Allstars album with this song on it. He had other albums of quartet groups, but these guys was my favorite. I really treasure those gospel groups from that era. So much of this so called gospel music today sounds so secular the message gets lost in the production. Nothing like those old classics.
The foundation these pioneers laid will outlast eternity end. Good only gets better. Classics will forever be the standard by all others are judged by. Thank you Brooklyn All Stars for being a part of that classic standard to never let us forget how it's supposed to be done !!!! Simply awesome!!!!
I will never tire of this group, loved them from my childhood and still have the same love for them many decades later. I wish we could go back to those beautiful times when gospel music was different from secular music.
I love this song! I love the original recording more but this one is great. Hardie Clifton had one of the greatest voices in music history. R.I.P. Hardie.
LORD KNOWS I'VE STOOD ON THE BANKS OF JORDAN BUT HE DID'NT LEAVE ME ALONE, HE STILL COMFORT MY HEART WHEN I NEED HIM. THANK YOU LORD FOR BLESSING ME WITH MY MOTHER AND FATHER, I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER MAMA AND DADDY. REST IN PEACE MAMA AND DADDY, YOU ARE ALWAYS REMEMBERED WITH LOVE
Wow, this is the original group, I grew up listening to the Brooklyn All Stars and so many other Gospel greats, Most of them are gone home to be with the Lord, I am so grateful that my granny and my parents were praying folks, they laid a Christian foundation for us, even though we strayed away we did not deviate too far from our upbringing and I do believe in my heart that their prayers, the bible verses, and the Christian music we were exposed to is what kept us safe and secured. I love this old music and the performers. I just want to take the time to say thank you for keeping their legacy alive.
I saw them sing this at the met in Philadelphia it must have been around 1970 or so...and quite a few groups were there that night...gospel greats....the Dixie Hummingbirds , Mighty Clouds , The Nightingales , you name them and they were probably there ,and I'll never forget when Hardie Clifton began to sing this song, all the famous singers came from back stage to see him and the group perform ,and they were great , then they gave them a standing ovation... they were show stoppers
This is truly quartet singing. Black Gospel quartets of today do not do the four part harmony of bass, baritone and high and low tenor no more. Rev. Spann is still killing that bass. Hardie was awesome. The All Stars, Soul Stirrers and Swan Silverstones of the 60s and 70s had some awesome vocals.
Hardie and Eddie Huffman of the Soul Stirrers were two awesome tenors. No offense to Johnnie from the Swannees or Shot and Dannie of the Violinaires or even Jimmie Rogers of the Soul Stirrers, but Hardie and Eddie were on another plain.
I remember Frank Rev. Spann is my father these guys raised me I remember going on the road every summer learned so much from these guys specially my pops
The late Hardie Clifton is the one sitting on the far right, he's the one that's leading this song, and Thomas Spann who's still living at the age of 93 or 94 and still singing with the group as of 2017 at this time is the one sitting in the middle that's singing bass on this song. This is not the original song they are singing, they recorded this song 2 times before if I'm not mistaken, and a few more times with other lead singer trying to sound like the late Hardie Clifton. The second recording by them is the best to me, I think it was recorded back in around 1968, I think they recorded it also in around 1964.
Love it it never gets old it good everything you hear it

Old time gospel. Great memories. It don’t get no better than this. ❤
Every time I think of my dear Mother who passed away December 21, 1990. Walk around heaven all day Mom.

Spann wasn't much a bass. He was more of a bass-baritone. He couldn't sing that low.
