It was his choice to ride this filly, sadly, he's passed now. He was an exceptional horseman too! Bred, raised, trained and Showed ( against all the political trainers too ), and developed his mare into a World Champion HUS horse. He and his mare are on the front cover of the Quarter Horse Journal in January 1981. You all can have your opinions, but he was a true horseman in his day. I refused to not let him ride. He rode and shod horses up to the day he was hospitalized and sadly went into hospice.

So sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. But it did my heart good to see an older gent with white hair riding the buck. And that he rode up to the day before he
went into hospice. Almost died with his boots on. Condolences to your family.

Thank you, he loved horses, he was a blacksmith and the best! From the midwest, he was a superior horseman too. No matter what he was doing in this video, I wanted to lung her and take the edge off her, as she was so unpredictable at times, but he said no. Broke my heart to see him bucked off too, glad he wasn't hurt. Thank you also for your condolences, he was a good man, we were together for 39 yrs.

For all you smart ass's and know it all's..........Chuck passed away 5 yrs after this ride. He was a very good horseman that over the years, had learned from the best! He bred, raised, trained and rode his horse to a World Champion, on the front cover of the Quarter Horse Journal in 1981. This filly, had lameness issues, after this fact, many xrays, finally was able to determine her having bone on bone in her middle joint of her right hock. Goldie wasn't a fan of pain, and her training was stopped after this diagnosis. She didn't show much lameness all the time, only when she would explode would she get sore. Many vets looked at her and xrays were taken. I paid a lot of money for this filly, she was a headache from the start with her mind issues (her mother and father were fine, both were World Champions). Goldie has now passed on from a stroke, she was in foal to Suchan Ego and 8 months along. She died in the pasture and lost the foal to., I bred her prior to selling her as a broodmare. I have 2 very nice buckskin fillies from her, smart and willing. I am training both of them under saddle now with no issues. So, for all the ignorant comments, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all, For all the nice comments, Thank you, she was a part of my life, I loved her, she was a challenge and I moved on with her fillies. which are amazing!

An angry stallion bucked me off once. He wasn't having a good day and my instructor had me show him who's boss, and he finally went "No thanks" and threw me like I was a tennis ball. My leg still ain't right after that and I'm only 19. Too young to limp my whole life, am I right? Oh well, my love for horses outweighs my love for my body. Definitely won't be riding him again though. I have my own boy out in Oklahoma that I see and he's a real sweetheart. He helped me overcome the trauma I had. I was a panicking mess on his back thinking he was gonna throw me off too but I swear he understands humans or something, cause he brought his head over to mine and comforted me while I cried. I think he told me in horse language he wasn't gonna do me like crazy boy. They say to never ride a horse while panicked, but he was exceptionally calm on that trail ride. He walked very slow and didn't even try exciting me by trotting. He knows I love to trot so he'll make a happy noise and trot sometimes, but he didn't even try.

I'm so sorry you went through that, this filly at that time was a bomb. I worked with her every day all day since she was 4 months old when I got her. She would just explode or bolt. Totally unpredictable, anyway, I am glad you over came your fear, all horses aren't crazy, I have 2 fillies now, I bred and raised them, they are going good, but young and you can't trust a young horse totally. I am always ready for what they might throw at me. Geldings are the best! They don't have a care in the world. Good luck, sorry about the limp. Just one marker you will wear. I have many myself. Keep the faith and keep riding!

I was bucked off twice about a month ago. My lesson horse was also not having a good day, and instructor told me to show the horse that I was in control, and he bucked me off. I got back on, and off I went ten minutes later. I don't think it's wise to have a student continue to get on a horse that's not safe...

    • @johannaappleforest7482
      @johannaappleforest7482 11 місяців тому

@@mariluisiordia7346 I agree. Some standards need to change in the horse riding industry.
We need to learn to bond with our horse and understand their boundaries, and maybe stick to riding horses that actually enjoy it. I get sometimes horses can be stubborn and you might have to push them a bit to do the thing you want them to, but if a horse is really not feeling well, DON’T PUSH THEM. Horses are creatures who experience real emotions. Complex emotions. They may not have some complexities like ours, but they’re still very intelligent. They know if they’re having a bad day, and they know if they don’t trust you or know you well enough.
I believe when you first start riding a lesson horse, you should have about 3 groundwork lessons, so you and the horse can get to know each other and bond, and feel safe with one another. Then slowly introduce you riding the horse. Make it a love and trust thing, as well as actually learning to ride.
That’s my opinion. I just feel like it’s abuse to ‘be in control’ or ‘show the horse who’s boss’. I feel like this causes more accidents than just getting off and helping the horse with their bad day.
If they keep doing it just so you get off, maybe they just don’t like being ridden much. Forcing them to do it may make them miserable.

The seller was yelling good advice. Not that I was registering the advice at the time, but I was already doing it and manage to ride it out and rode it up the road and back. I didn't buy the horse.

Thank you Lorenzo for NOT slamming him, he just passed away, we were together 39 yrs. He was sick in this video also, and he wanted to work this filly. I begged him to let me take the edge off her first, she was a very feisty young filly. He said no, she would be fine, I knew she wouldn't, so I taped it. Thus what you see here in this video. She did back down until he started to jerk hard on her mouth, and that pissed her off a bunch. This mare is now my broodmare, she has produced 2 beautiful buckskin fillies for me. I can't afford all of my horses, so I am selling her, and keeping my 2 yr old from her and my weanling now from her. I have to cut back now, again, thank you for not slamming him. He rode under the best of the best quarter horse trainers. He trained his mare, and she won the world in Hunter Hack at the Congress back in 1981. and is on the cover of the QH Journal on the January issue. He knows what he's doing, ad he's very good with a horse (well was, RIP), and I was surprised to see him do this. Not his style at all, he does use draw reins though, to much for me to use in the beginning.

Yes he did Aaron, sad but Chuck wasn't healthy, and I had no idea he was as sick as he was. He just passed away of 4th stage lung cancer, he never let anyone know he was that ill, even me and we were together 39 yrs. He hid it well until the last 3 months. Chuck is in his eternal place now, and I have to watch this video a lot, to remind myself just how strong he was.

I have a thoroughbred that gets tight like that. My advice is ditch the tie downs and do some exercises that help the horse disengage the hindquarters. Also shorten up on the reins to help the horse get its up, because it makes it harder for the horse to buck, but keep it moving forward. My horse can get tight when she switches eyes so I try to help her there. Good luck and be safe. Remember the horse isn't to blame. Horsemanship is a process of working on ourselves..

Thank you Dan, for not slamming him first of all, Chuck has since passed away, he had cancer and even while he was riding her. He was a very good horseman in his day, but at the end, of coarse, he didn't care anymore. I have sold this mare, because she was lame in her hock, she had injured her hock when she was a yearling, so I am sure that was part of it. She is a broodmare now and is bred to Suchan Ego. Thank you for your input, I have 2 more I am training, I am old and don't need to get bucked off either. Buttercup and Butterscotch, both full sisters from this mare. I think I have some videos of Buttercup on here, she is 3 this year, I lightly started her last summer, only put about 30 rides on her, over 4 months, because the weather was so bad and wet, i don't have an indoor. Butterscotch is just a yearling now, I always train them in harness first, bit them, and teach them all the ground commands and voice commands. Again, thank you

@@Racehorse19542000 I am sorry to hear that he passed away. I was very fortunate to have had time riding with in my opinion the best horseman in north America. He spent a lot of time with Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt. He passed away two years ago so I am on my own with a couple of very tough horses. Good horseman shed their egos the best they can so there is no need to slam anyone or pass judgment. I firmly believe that the rider with the big ego will eventually run into a horse that will serve up a cold dish of humble pie. Instead I would rather make the world a better place for both horse and rider, and share what I learned from my mentor.

I agree, but she got lame, she injured her right hock, I bred her, and I have two amazing fillies from her, I am training them myself, and they are super smart, I have the 4 yr old doing everything, and the 2 yr old is started under saddle, Unfortunately, my mare I sold after I got my 2nd foal from her, and she died out in the pasture. She was bred to Suchan Ego too, 7 months along in her pregnancy. She had a brain anurism /stroke, AND Chuck is now in heaven too, he passed away in May 2018. But thank you for the comment, I agree with you 100%! I ride my 4 yr old, hour in my round pen and ring, then after she settles and relaxes, (slows down), I take her out on my farm, after that I take her out on the road, I have taught her and desensitized her for all traffic, to make this story short, thank you for your comment.

People, if you think having a horse's head down while riding is cruel, you gotta do some re-search. Sometimes it can be good to tie them down. Horses lift their head quite high when scared, or when they become excited. It wouldn't be too good with a very excited horse, now would it? And it could prevent them from bucking. Sometimes though, their heads are pulled down for no good reason. Those are animal abusers -_-

sydo and ponies, yes I know horses can play up, but that mare is doing a little bit more strikes me it would help if the man didn't stick his spurs in her sides, also if he rode her forward a little more she wouldn't have that much time to get her head between her front legs, and I wonder how many days the horse had been stuck in a stable. Usually horses play up when they are fresh or worried about something, don't forget horses are prey animals.

If you know anything about horses, there are no 2 the same. They won't do the same things, you don't know the history of this mare, and therefore you have no idea what you are talking about. You really should think before you speak, as you just showed how ignorant you are! Sorry, get all the facts before you speak out if you like to give an opinion.
