I bought one of these a while back not seeing this post before. I was scared that I wasted my money. I hooked it up today for the first time. I was very pleased with mine. Mine seems to be balanced fine. I started out slow then ran 40 gallon through . I am very pleased with it
Awesome, you got a good one then. You’ll chew through the teeth pretty fast. I’ve already chewed through most of mine on the RUT. And they are twice the size of the cat. Try to source some teeth now before you need to replace them
Man i will say i bought one and use it on my JD 333 and it does vibrate a little but it does pretty well. I have already made twice what i paid for it and its still going strong. Mulched all day yesterday with it.
Wish I had the same luck. I knew there would be some vibration, but this was bad. It’s hard to see it in the video. It would have ultimately ruined my machine.
Thanks for the Top Cat Warning!👍 I was online for an auction today. Came close to bidding on a Brand New TOP CAT SSDFM60 80 in Disc Skid Steer Mulcher. One went for $ 2300 and one for $ 2500. I had watched your other video on the Rut Manufacturing Skid Steer Forestry Disc Mulcher Annihilator(Listed for $ 16,148 online) and did not know the Major Balance issue with the Top Cat until watching this video now😬. I never thought about a possible balance issue with one of these🥴. I'm debating whether I'll buy a TOP CAT SSDFM60 80 in Disc in a few months at the next auction if it goes around the same price at that time. I am thinking that they might be sending their defective ones to the auction! 🤔The retailer you bought from may have bought his Top Cat inventory from an auction!
It’s quite possible, another person who bought one from an auction had a terrible out of balance, he said he spent a lot in trying to rebalance and it still wasn’t great, after all said he done I think he said he had over 10k in it. To me, it’s not worth it. The teeth are very small and so are the mounting bolts. You’ll have to source new teeth through china because most places here don’t carry them. Rut mfg teeth are readily available, thicker, and attached with thicker heavier duty bolts. I’m Running a 331g with max 36gpm high flow, I think I would be more efficient with the 48” model.
I bought a Top Cat disk Mulcher at an Auction. Had the same experience with bad vibration. I ended up spending $4000 for a machine shop to balance the disk... Thats a whole story in its self as they were confident they could balance it but 4000 later its still no completely balanced as the disk is warped. The balancing helped a little. Basically I run it on low flow and it does the job. I can run it at almost idle and still get quite a bit done. I occasionally ramp it up but it vibrates worse faster. I break the carbide teeth off the bottom quite frequently but can buy them from China pretty cheap. So I like that it is lighter then alot of them so I can run it with a 10000 lb Case TR 340 pretty well on hills etc. Anyhow the motor so far is pretty nice because its can run on quite a range of flows... Otherwise, I am not sure I would do it again I also had to adapt the hose for the case drain. And initially after a little use one of the mounting brackets bent and the thing fell off the skidsteer. We reinforce that... We do have a usuable machine but for what I have into It I could not buy a Rutt american made monster... Live and learn.
@@SteveDoesEverything and you know I had been looking at getting a Rut mulcher but was too cheap. Having bought mine at auction, I couldn't return it... Glad you were able to.
Nothing I could find. No missing teeth. Everything tightened, just manufactured defective. My guess is the mount holes were not true centered, Because I could see the rotation running out as it was spinning.
Have not watched all your videos so maybe you have window protection now. I've watched a bunch of various disk mulcher demo videos and I think running without protection could be deadly😬! Metal Shrapnel can go through the glass window and hit someone in the face or another area! I've seen on youtube a Skid Steer that someone fastened an approx 1 inch thick piece of Plexiglass in front of the window.
Strange I've got the Handy brand mulcher which is a better made chineese brand and I've not had any issues I must have either got a good one or they sent you a dud lol
Moral of the story, was it’s was so bad I couldn’t use it. Thanks for watching though, My follow up video with the RUT Mfg disc mulcher which, I replaced the Top Cat with, did get used

I use rut myself. Rut has the best equipment for the price

Anybody actually have a video of this running through a tree on standard flow?

Sounds like a mad mess. Happy you were able to make it work out for you

I would like to know how this turned out. Part 2 please!
Part 2 is coming. Probably tomorrow ☺️
Steve, where did you buy your TopCat disc mulcher? Did you get it on auction or from a supplier?
Hi, I bought from a supplier. At initial inspection I was impressed and excited. Unfortunately the disc was out of round or not balanced properly.
Also did the mulcher come with 3/4 or 1/2 flat faced couplers?
Hi, mulcher came with 3/4 flat faced couplers.
What was wrong with it? Was it missing any teeth to cause it to be out of balance??
Nothing I could find. No missing teeth. Everything tightened, just manufactured defective. My guess is the mount holes were not true centered, Because I could see the rotation running out as it was spinning.
Have anyone had any problems with blowing seal on the bottom of motor? And wear do I get seals?
Have you tried getting the seal matched up at a hydraulic shop?

Thanks for the heads up, am planning to do this

The supplier I bought from had sold 4, apparently I got the bad one out of the group. Statistically 25% dud rate
I’ve got a handy Harley rake that is working great also.. almost bought a top cat one. Lucky break
Wouldn't hook that knock off stuff up to a 100k$ machine
I just wasted 11 minutes of my life for nothing. U need to add that in the title. (NOT actually used,... just complained about alot)
