    1. Halo effect - professors impression of you ( eye contact, note taking, sit in front)
    2. Plan like you’ve never planned before (calendars, syllabus, highlight)
    3. Know game plan - components of each class (grading scale) ask upper class men for advice
    4. Surround self with smart, accountable friends
    5. Make projects mean something ( invest time in)
    6. Send assignments early to professors ( they will tell you what you did wrong)
    7. Be meticulous (perfection)
    8. Be efficient (each class requires different strategic study plans)
    9. Know your limits (make plan according to your preference)
    10. Eliminate distractions and say no to Netflix
    11. Study to UNDERSTAND!!! (teach yourself)
    12. Change game plan to each class
    13. Prepare for crunch time (practice problems and exams) (ready to go) ( diy study guide)
    14. “Do more than what was asked” “be extra” take resources you have and utilize them

when I am "extra" I don't realize it myself, my friends are smarter than me and they point that out like it's a bad quality I have. I just want my work to be correct, I don't understand how that's bad.

I prefer sitting in the back of the class. It makes me feel safe and comfortable. I get anxiety thinking about all the people behind me when I sit in the front. 😭 I know it sounds weird.

    • @nickykiki9817
      @nickykiki9817 4 роки тому +26

IT'S TOTALLY TRUE!! I really hate it when I need to sit at the front as most of my friend sitting at the front, and I am scared to sit behind as I have no friends to sit with. But what I can conclude, sitting at the behind DID help to prevent anxiety like you said. The most important thing is to take notes what the lecturers are talking so you can make its reference later, as oppose to sittting in front and just feeling awkward the whole lecture

It’s not weird it just that we are scared that people may hurt us with words or anything I can feel the pain I’m a student in Saudi Arabia and they hate lgbtq members and some of them can get killed of it but I’m trying to hide it but they bully me cuz my voice a bit girly so they bully me at it and the genders are in Separate school one for girls one for boys I love Saudi Arabia but i can’t live in my true me 😔

If you can slowly confront this fear and anxiety through exposure therapy, this may lessen over time.
I did this with public speaking and fear of heights (self-guided, took 10 years, slow progress, real results because I kept challenging my fears)

    1. Sit in the front. Halo effect.
    2. Plan like you've never planned before
    3. Know the game plan, the components of the class
    4. Befriend upperclassmen
    5. Surround yourself with smart and accountable friends
    6. Make your projects mean something, you get something in return
    7. Send your assignments early
    8. Give attention to details
    9. Be efficient
    10. Know your limit
    11. Eliminate distractions
    12. Study to understand
    13. Change your game plan to each class
    14. Prepare for crunch time
    15. Do more than you are asked
I would still recommend to watch the full video to get context and more tips!!

I have written 5 professional exam, i failed for each time I took this exams. for the 5th attempt, I was frustrated. I decided not to take the exams anymore. However, in March, 2018, I travelled to see a friend who just took this same exam without stress, so i wanted to know the success story and why mine is different. He actually told me he was introduced to someone who can get answer key and change grade. To cut the story short, I took the exam now and I have passed the exams without nobody would ask me how I did it but does it matters? All I know now is that I’m where i want to be. i will appreciate the effort of this name below

Not the top student but here’s an extra tip, teach others! It really helped me and truly test your understanding becos most of the time you think you know what you know but when you try to teach it but can’t, you will realise maybe some parts you are still not clear about or you do not understand the concept well enough to explain to someone else

This is great advice and worked well for me. Also, your professor may notice this as well and will use you as a basis for grading, putting you at the top in their mind even if you're not 100% sure on everything. They will have more respect for you too, which can translate into brownie points for a recommendation or real points to your grade :)

When ever my sister has a test, she gets the white board and starts pretending like she's explaining or teaching the lessons to others, and sometimes she explains it to me and then i resay what i understood, and if its correct that means she understands it too, and i think its a rlly good way to see if you understand or not, im not exactly sure if it helped her or not, but i say try it

about taking an A in a writing class .. I wrote my essay over 4 times and he kept on giving me a B every single time I told him what can I do to get an A in this essay he is like I don't know I would recommend looking at you paper more ,.. he corrected it more than once till here was nothing to correct anymore. but he still instated on giving me a B. i had another class after this .. and asked my teacher what can i do to get an A. he said no one gets an A in my class. sometimes the problem is not with us, its with the teachers themsleves

I switched from the liberal arts because of that. Most professors in the arts tend to be that way. Go for STEM. Professors there aren’t like that and either you know the answer or you don’t. That determines your grade.

I'm going to be a Junior in High school and I have been pretty much a straight A student my whole life but I'm always stressing and I procrastinate like nobody's business so I've gotten to the point where I can ONLY work well under that pressure but I think that in High school the teachers tell us that we should worry more about what we are learning rather than grades but they have already instilled in us that grades are more important and that's why kids stress, or cheat, or do drugs. But it's also that we are more stressed because we are TRYING TO GET into college. Once you're in college you are there and you can learn to work in a more efficient way but we are worried more about grades because if we don't get good grades we won't MAKE IT to college. So I think it's different kinds of stress. And adults are always like "you shouldn't be stressing this much you're just a teenager" but we are all like NO YOU DON'T BLOODY GET IT BECAUSE WE HAVE TO GET INTO COLLEGE AND IF WE DON'T WE WILL BE FAILURES FOR THE REST OF OUR FUCKING LIVES. You know??? I haven't even started school yet and I'm already stressed

    • @brealynnandersen885
      @brealynnandersen885 7 років тому +8

Divaliciousbeauty123 Most likely our parents went to college too and had to pass tests in order to get in. Our parents didn't have google to help us with research they had to go to the library and seek out different books and pin pointing information was much harder so in reality school has been hard for many generations. Sorry i just thought your comment was funny because teenagers don't know how much harder school used to be because our parents had type writers and couldn't afford to make mistakes on a paper. Don't compare their generation to ours or say they don't understand because they do😂. Btw I'm not trying to sound rude i just thought i would enlighten you on the fact that school has always been hard and will continue to do so. I hope your junior year lightens up with stress and that it won't be so rough!

    • @Divaliciousbeauty123
      @Divaliciousbeauty123 7 років тому +21

I'm not even talking about my parents I'm talking about society. And I'm well aware school has always been hard. I was talking about how they (adults) are always saying that we are teenagers and we shouldn't be stressed because we don't have to deal with what they have to as adults, but we have our own stress and shit to worry about. And scientifically speaking our brains aren't as developed so some things that are extremely important or stressful to us, won't seem as stressful to them. Albeit I'm writing this- what- a week after I posted? So I don't know exactly what I said word for word, I'll read it again. Nonetheless, I think you were missing the point in what I was saying.

    • @Divaliciousbeauty123

Also wanted to point out the outside factors that add to a student's stress. It's complete BS when a student has a hard life at home that no one knows about and then teachers are even bigger asses.

4.0 student here both in my undergraduate and graduate school. I would skip half my classes, get distracted on my phone/laptop, sit in the back of class, stay up all night due to Netflix, skip chapters in the book, BS papers... Lets just say I had every bad habit, except I rarely procrastinated, listened when it mattered, and always did my work thoroughly but not perfectly.
I think the key is to know your professor's style and to do your homework early. I would be able to study much less compared to my peers because I understood what the professors expected and their exam style. If I did my homework early, I would do quality work and catch my own mistakes.

3.85 gpa student, senior in college: the greatest thing i've done in college to help my learning is reading a book called A Mind for Numbers by Barbara Oakley. It's a cheap, short, and easy-read. It has nothing to do with numbers. It literally teaches you (in a sometimes comical and entertaining way that includes real life instances from the author) how to study in ways that work for you. This is definitely worth your time. Read it! I can't recommend it enough. Another good tip: use rate my professor before you sign up for classes. Your teachers are a big part of the grade you earn. If you suck at essays, try to find a professor that doesn't assign many essays. You need extra credit? Find a professor that gives extra credit. Also, get at least 3 people's number on the first day of class. They will be your lifeline when you can't find a study guide, you missed class, or you have a question about an assignment.

9:44 yes this works really well. I had precalculus and I broke down the amount of questions and finished a chore. Okay "5 questions then do 5 minutes of washing dishes. Try to wash 7-10 dishes in those 5 minutes. Then go back to my homework and do 5 questions then 5 minutes of dishes" and I did that and in like an hour I finished a lot of dishes, and my big homework packet. And I still got an A+. Take it from the girl who got a 110, 99, 100 on the only 3 tests of the semester. (I'm not bragging, I'm just showing an event I went through that strengthens her position) :)

I’m a 3.9 GPA student, and everything you said is SOOOOO true. Especially the advice to sit in the front! I’ve been homeschooled up until college, and I didn’t know why, but I just didn’t want to be associated with the “distant” students who sit in the back. It helped me get noticed by my coordinator and get an internship early. Glad to hear it has a name, “the halo effect”!!! ❤️❤️❤️

The part about getting sleep is really important! It is more beneficial to go to sleep rather than staying up all night studying. Your hippocampus in your brain is responsible for memory, in particular long term memory. When you are tired that part of your brain cannot retain information properly. When you go to sleep it helps your body rest and recharge, and allows you to process and retain all of the information you have learned that day. With lack of sleep it doesn't give your body and brain enough time to do that, so you may have known something at 2 am but once you wake up, it most likely didn't stick with you!

    • @rebeccamarcott371
      @rebeccamarcott371 6 років тому

Lol what. No, do studying before bed and review notecards then sleep. It WILL help you retain that information. This is completely contradicting

If you still need assurance when someone says "understand not memorize" I hope you find my personal experience helpful.
For my history test something like that idk what's it called in English, I did not study one bit and the test was two days away. On Sunday, I wanted to study history but I had a lot of topics to cover and I just had no idea where to start. In my class group chat they said that the teacher will be telling us what topics will be coming out so I freaked out less and decided to study other subjects for the remainder of the day. The next day, the teacher came in and she said "I'm sorry but I cannot tell you what topics that are specifically gonna come out because I haven't fully seen the paper but I'll tell you what I know." I almost broke down after she said that. The test was literally tomorrow and I haven't studied crap so I just sat at my table and stare into the wall. What the teacher said was not that helpful as the scope of what I needed to learn in ONE DAY was still large. Finally I got up from my chair and I asked my teacher, "can't you really tell us anything at all?" She looked at me and said sorry but she can't. I was about to turn around and walk away saddened by what she said when she stopped me and said "hey, don't memorize just read and understand." I nodded my head and tried to lift my mood up.
When I went home I just crammed and read as much as possible. I took out my highlighter and just started reading and highlighting and understanding as much as possible. I even woke up at about 4am to pick up other topics that I haven't touched.
During the test I just wrote everything what I thought was right cause I remember one thing my teacher said to me that had me more confident in history, "there's nothing wrong in history because as long as your answer is logical it's correct unless your answer is completely off topic then you're wrong." This is my tip to you if you have no idea what the answer is gonna be on your history test/exam; don't leave anything empty and bullshit your way through it even if you think it's wrong just bullshit your way through.
When it was time for results I got really nervous cause for my country if you fail history you fail everything. Lo and behold I got an A. A fucking A. Do you know how amazing I felt? I never gotten an A on history ever.
For my real history exam on the other hand I did this method too, of course I studied before hand like weeks earlier. And would you look at that I got an A again.
    Summary:
    1) understand not memorize
    2) don't leave the answer sheet empty
    3) just bullshit your way through. That long essay that you have no idea what to write down? Just bullshit it, write everything you remember, write everything you think is right and hand your paper in. That's it. Remember, they can't deduct marks because you are wrong so the only time your marks alter is when you get something *right*
I hope I helped some of you. Sorry for the long comment

super true about sitting in the front & mixing w smart ppl!! Last year I did that and from failing in my prelims, I passed all of my subjects with flying colours end of year !! but honestly it actually starts from urself. you need to want to improve and thn u have to see what you're weak in. You also need to keep a good eye of ur journal. You should plan ahead what u should do on the actual day. You should also try to re-do worksheets your lectures give you to ensure you 100% understand it and obvly if you dont understand you should firstly ask your smarter friends and if not ask your lecturer privately. & dont be easily distracted because you need to know what is more important ! you need to know what to prioritize!!

Thank you!! I will apply those tips. I really liked your advice on understanding rather than simply memorising. It’s definitely the way to actually remember the material which could be of use in the future. I hope everyone watching this video benefits a lot and exchanges their own experience and results. My best way to focus study is early in the morning after having a cold shower.

Dropped out when I was 16. Went hunting for 5 years. Finally found what I want to do. Got certified in a bunch of things. Felt lost tobmy passions. Noy everyone needs to be a teenage prodigy by the time they are 24. I traveled, tested different degrees, found myself.

I’m a straight A student and people ask me all the time how I do it. They say they studied but still failed quizzes and tests. One thing I do know why they are failing is because they dont CARE. If you don’t care for your future then it’s gonna fade away and soon you’ll find yourself lost not knowing what to do.

Yaasss! Best study guide everrr even though i do some of these things especially the one where I talk to myself and make myself understand. But hearing this from someone else just reassures me that I am doing the right thing, you know 😅 and people who get good grades are friends with people who also get good grades is sooo freaking true. It's like we push each other into doing better and not slacking behind.

This video was really helpful. I am a first year university student with probably the worst kind of work ethic because I procrastinate on everything and push all my assignments back until the day before it’s due. This is ineffective and I’m not putting any effort in fixing it. After your video I will try my hardest to not procrastinate and maybe I will see a huge change in my marks. Thank you for this video!! ❤️❤️

I like how you emphasized on making sure to understand the information instead of just memorizing it! That’s good advice for me in particular because I was the one in high school that would procrastinate a lot and cram information, so fully understanding the subject wasn’t in my best interest. In turn, I forgot a lot of things that I learned in past classes.
LONG STORY SHORT... very helpful advice!😁

Guys listened to this video before I started my freshmen year of high school (1year ago) and the results I got were shocking. On all of my classes I had A’s including a challenging AP class. If I did not watch these kinds of videos before I started that year I would’ve probably been lost and not end up with the results that I have now. I highly recommend you reminding yourself of these key aspects of getting A’s BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY WORK IF YOU WORK HARD ENOUGH.
