If you think that the western sense of individuality and 周りを気にしない is healthy, I can assure you this is not the case. The entire western world is suffering a mental health crisis with skyrocketing suicide rates, drug use, and incidence of depression and anxiety all brought on by the crushing sense of social isolation that is the natural reward of excessive individualism. No doubt Japan has its own social issues that will need to be dealt with, but please, PLEASE don’t look at the west as a social model to emulate.
First of all, your English is remarkable!!!! my english proficiency can not even come close to your even though I am nikkey and studied from high school throughout college in english native country, living in homestay and boarding housing on campus. My father was from Kagoshima so I feel an affinity and whenever I visit there I feel like home, even the scenery remind me of my birth place in south America. What I like about japanese culture is how it emphasizes on "maintaining harmony and order" above oneself, this is also (indirectly) reinforced in the book " How to influence people and win friends" by Darne Carnage. Also there are thing in life that are absolute like gravity, time and biology. My point is, unfortunately, age matter when looking for a quality partner; over the year you could have noticed that attention from opposite gender have diminished that means that every year that passes by, your options will diminish as well. Statistically, women that achieves career success at the cost of starting a family regret it later in life.
She is definitely not your average Japanese. More like the type we see on Japanese variety shows. There's a chance that she was an I.B.S. student in Kagoshima. DON'T visit Kagoshima in summer. Its insanely hot and humid. Anytime from October to the beginning of June is better. Kagoshima is on the low side for foreigner presence. Youll see more foreigners in one minute in Tokyo than you will in a week in Kagoshima. I sometimes see foreign workers at convenience stores in Kagoshima. Its not as prevalent as in Tokyo. More often they are working at McDonald's. Quite a few are Nepalese. I see Vietnamese who work in many rural labour intensive jobs.
Maybe there is a precedent in traditional mythology as well. There is the Russian princess frog fairytale… where a boy kissed a frog and she turned into a beautiful princess!
the frontal cortex may not be fully developed in some cases but once you hit a certain age (18,19,20) you're an adult capable of making adult decisions...25 is not bad...but like riko says the earlier the better...that clock is ticking away...

16:00 I live in Japan, but I've never heard of Christmas cake things around me. In the first place, the average age of marriage in Japan today is 31, and it's normal to be unmarried at 25, so I think no one would care. The story about Christmas cake sounds like something from the bubble era, and it's not common in Japan today.
No...as i remember "christmas cake" is a woman who reach 25 yrs old still a *virgin* and a deadline of being a young girl lol this pressure a girls to lose their v-card in their younger days.... yes girls who are 14 or 16, 18 they lose that card to someone they didn't love...ahh the depression. its a good thing i grow up in a christian family so my conscience is base on christianity in the bible(not catholic ok).
WRONG. The whole point is the Japanese think we celebrate Christmas with cake in the West. (Fried chicken too, so KFC is huge.) But a cake made for Christmas, the 25th, is bad the next day, the 26th, so this is where the expression came from to match with the culture of the time. Married by 25 as a female, then, or you're past your prime.
Actually, a half Japanese guy in Vegas was found by the police eating a man on the sidewalk. I knew it couldn't have been Max since he is based in Japan.
i can be wrong but having seen how some people get overconfident i feel she has an edgy part in her that she got from being in LA. She gave me the vibes of someone who doesn't mess around & got some street attitude. Obviously you can take anything to the extremes or just use it when needed
I want to live in Tokyo as a cutie gyaru. It’s so clean and so many fun things. Also, people leave me alone there besides uncles in conbini hitting on me or being so strict. lol.
This is so good! I think this is why Anna Sawai said she got so emotional when japanese girls came up to her telling her they feel good to see more outspoken, bold and strong women. It must feel good to not feel like an outcast simply because you have a different personality and be able to relate to someone.
Her character is more resonnated to English Langauge. I think she chosed what her soul correctly aligned with her expression. I think Japanese langauge is not suitable for her. Best to talk in English if she would like to stay with her character. Thats perfectly suit her.
Stereotypical American "valley girl" accent, "content creator", lived abroad a year, jokes and expressions that sound like they come from a netflix series... No she's not unique or special she just traded a cliché for another. But yeah at least it shows people Japanese people and especially women are not a monolith. Yet it has to be said that she's also very good looking and from n economically privileged background with an international resume so she definitely doesn't represent the people of Japan, whom like most in the world don't travel outside of their borders and struggle to live decently.
Mediia in Japan is no different than media in the Philippines when it comes to Hiding the Real True Ugly Evil side oof the Filipinos, but on other topics specially vital and relevant to who the Japanese are Better than most cultures worldwide, which is why I love Japan compared to any other country 🎉
So, a different language can reshape even a mind from a conservative background. This explains a lot why most Japanese simply can't speak English or almost no other language other than theirs. It is more than a language barrier it looks like a narrow minded lifestyle of staying in a comfort zone.
Western girl goes to Asian country to learn foreign language: Comments: That’s amazing. Great for her! She will surely succeed in life. Japanese girl goes to America and self teaches herself English and learns to speak incredibly fluently after 1 year: Comments: She’s so westernized. She should have stayed Japanese. This is bad for Japan. Jokes aside I think most people are supportive 😂 I also found it funny.
I'm a black guy. Born and raised in Florida and one of our most famous bands is Cannibal Corpse. Very interesting to watch new Gyaru, Gen Z. I am delighted to see there are some of you. I left Japan because of too much conformity of Japan. Not all conformity is bad but Japan still overall do not accept independence. 出る釘は打たれる。Unless you are like Ohtani of Dodgers or Sanada who acted and also became producer of recent Emmy winning Shogun. It took Sanada long time to have his independence thinking recognized. In my days, it was Ozawa Seiji, the world famous conductor. He was not accepted initially in Japan. Don’t give up, Gen Z, gyaru of Japan.
I don’t get the insisting on making Florida look bad. We say that for memes, everywhere has stories like those(not that one though). She’s cool though so far.
From what I have seen women like her are not popular with most Japanese guys and most of them stay single, leave Japan or marry a foreigner in Japan. Which is fine of course.
Is next gen going to push Japan government to make reparations to East Asia for WWII or is it really just like the old gen and current gen that don't care?
Do people actually like the "sumimasen" over-coy japanese friend/gf? I've met more people wanting the opposite haha. When I meet japanese friends in the states, usually they are all rowdy and fun (notice I never said disrespectful); I love that, but it's sad when the go back and overpolite-nize as soon as the go back home. TL; DR: Namara menkoi gyaru, doko? lol. Shout out to the cool party who invited to karaoke with them on my last visit~.
Funny how she says adopting other cultural norms/personal traits could help adapt to a modern society. From what I can tell having spent a decent amount of time in Japan, the country adopted the things it wanted and left the things it didn’t. And part of the reason Japan was so economically successful was exactly because of Japanese personality and cultural traits. Honestly she just comes across like a likeable yet slightly immature young person who has a bit of a fetish for another culture and way of being and wishes her own country could be more like that. She needs to travel more. She’ll stop viewing elsewhere with rose tinted glasses and hopefully stop basing her whole persona on being a contrarian

Also, I had to pause to look up Gojo Sensei & am still not quite sure what it is. Also who is this other UA-camr you talked about, Cameo or Kamio?! I still can’t find it. Thanks again. I was glad to see a full Japanese person like Riko, speaking English.
I assume Gojo Sensei is Satoru Gojo, the character from the manga and anime Jujutsu Kaisen, since it has to be someone that isn't real.
Kemio. @mmkemio
Yaaay! Rikodonworld! I click so fast since I follow her instagram😆
And my dad is from Kagoshima too🩷
I love people from Kagoshima! They are so sweet and funny✨
It would be great if you could have Japanese subtitle on this video interview so that young people can hear what she is talking about and be inspired to make them feel it’s ok to get out of the box sometimes and to encourage them to learn English
日本人の視聴者さん達の為に日本語の字幕があるといいね。
Statistically, women that achieves career success at the cost of starting a family regret it later in life.
her english is really good!
Riko reminds me of my younger sister, choooo yabai!!! w
She should stay in LA.
she is dope,
love her spirit.
Keep on keeping on!
Bijuu generation, I was like "what" Naruto Bijuu " Bijuu damaaa!!!"
wow what a brilliant mind is she!
こんな人もいるんだね、、、
wow Gen Z👏
You mean those braindead ones on variety shows?
I’ve been to Tokyo and definitely saw a lot of Japanese people in コーヒー。 quite a few Indian people at McDonalds though.
Max got a poster of Bucciarati :D the goat !!!
Sticky fingers! 🤣
日本語を勉強しています。りこさん、英語がほんとじょうず!
My best guess for the origin of kaeruka カエル変 (turn into a frog) is Final Fantasy, where it's a status affliction inflicted by grotesque monsters.
Maybe there is a precedent in traditional mythology as well. There is the Russian princess frog fairytale… where a boy kissed a frog and she turned into a beautiful princess!
I love Rico chan ❤
love her!
the frontal cortex may not be fully developed in some cases but once you hit a certain age (18,19,20) you're an adult capable of making adult decisions...25 is not bad...but like riko says the earlier the better...that clock is ticking away...
Being a Japanese-American growing up in America, it's interesting to see how Gen Z is shifting the culture and it's really sick to see 🙌
And huge shoutout ITO EN 🙌🙌
Rikooooo
Her code switching in this reminds me of mflo.
Ask verbal or lisa from mflo for an interview. They might do it!!
Oh man, I thought I couldn't understand my GenZ kids in English, I just realized I don't know any of these Japanese terms either.. LOL まじかいな。。レッスンありがとう御座います。まいった、自分もう終わってる。(笑)
she is barely gen-z by definition (the first year of gen-z 1997), but she is more gen y in practicality. like she said, "she is not high school (age)"

I live in Japan, but I've never heard of Christmas cake things around me. In the first place, the average age of marriage in Japan today is 31, and it's normal to be unmarried at 25, so I think no one would care. The story about Christmas cake sounds like something from the bubble era, and it's not common in Japan today.
Yeah, it's changed. It was definitely a thing in the late 80s, 90s. The pressure was tangible.
えーおーいお茶こんなスポンサーしてるんだ。でも話しの内容とあんまり関係なくない?笑
2人の話の内容はとても共感出来るものばかりでした。しっかり子供達に伝えていきたいです。
Actually, a half Japanese guy in Vegas was found by the police eating a man on the sidewalk. I knew it couldn't have been Max since he is based in Japan.
i can be wrong but having seen how some people get overconfident i feel she has an edgy part in her that she got from being in LA. She gave me the vibes of someone who doesn't mess around & got some street attitude. Obviously you can take anything to the extremes or just use it when needed
I want to live in Tokyo as a cutie gyaru. It’s so clean and so many fun things. Also, people leave me alone there besides uncles in conbini hitting on me or being so strict. lol.
I recommend Chichibu
She is gen z sensie ❤
This is so good! I think this is why Anna Sawai said she got so emotional when japanese girls came up to her telling her they feel good to see more outspoken, bold and strong women. It must feel good to not feel like an outcast simply because you have a different personality and be able to relate to someone.
Kareru ka is coming from the fairy tail The frong Prince but reversed. Your bf was a prince but did something that turned you off and became a frog.
I think she would be an example for a lot of young Japanese girls. To follow their own path
The bigger question is why women don’t want to get married and have kids. To see Japan fall culturally as Europe has would be devastating.
I like it...I like it...❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mediia in Japan is no different than media in the Philippines when it comes to Hiding the Real True Ugly Evil side oof the Filipinos, but on other topics specially vital and relevant to who the Japanese are Better than most cultures worldwide, which is why I love Japan compared to any other country 🎉
Max's biju is exploding 🥵🤤😜
It does like Florida
SAURRR SLAY!!!🎉
She pretty cool
I need a friend like her. She'd make a great Japanese teacher.
Japan toward casshern world
Hopefully, in the future almost Japanese girls gonna be like her. 😊
So, a different language can reshape even a mind from a conservative background. This explains a lot why most Japanese simply can't speak English or almost no other language other than theirs. It is more than a language barrier it looks like a narrow minded lifestyle of staying in a comfort zone.
Riko is Awesome! Would love to have such a wonderful friend as Riko Chan! 😊❤Yeah Xmas Cake 25 years old! Expired!
27years old is Generation Y and Generation Z is13 years old between 22years old
The comments here are hilarious lol! Let the girl live her best life 😂 Typical Americans telling other countries how to be.
Western girl goes to Asian country to learn foreign language:
Comments: That’s amazing. Great for her! She will surely succeed in life.
Japanese girl goes to America and self teaches herself English and learns to speak incredibly fluently after 1 year:
Comments: She’s so westernized. She should have stayed Japanese. This is bad for Japan.
Jokes aside I think most people are supportive 😂 I also found it funny.
I'm a black guy. Born and raised in Florida and one of our most famous bands is Cannibal Corpse. It isn't all I listen to but because of my musical tastes and tendency to use English that people can understand, I can sympathize with Riko who gets judged as being strange because of others' inability to perceive individuals out of stereotypical preconceptions.
ムカツクよな!そして惚れてないけどリコの英語と日本語組み合わせる喋り方大好き!ギャル最高じゃない?
2:50 - this is where every western man stops watching.
..time to find something better.
lol western men hentai
I don’t get the insisting on making Florida look bad. We say that for memes, everywhere has stories like those(not that one though). She’s cool though so far.
From what I have seen women like her are not popular with most Japanese guys and most of them stay single, leave Japan or marry a foreigner in Japan. Which is fine of course.
Even foreigner don’t want girls like her, because she’s too focused on herself.
MGTOW was there because of this.
More women in Japan need the independence, i like that answer... "learn how to say no"
Funny how she says adopting other cultural norms/personal traits could help adapt to a modern society.
