Beautiful painting. You captured the scene so well that the viewer, looking quietly at the scene can feel the light causing the glare on the water. And, the viewer can hear the incoming waves rushing to the beach shore line. Great painting!
We joke in my house that I'm going to watch my "painting crush"! You are so generous to share so much. Thank you! I do think the glare looks like glare.
I love what you made out of that scene, your water looks a lot more interesting than the actual scenario. Wonderful you are so patient and methodical in your process. Thanks for sharing!
Adding the dark area just below the whitewater really makes the wave come togeather...have been painting waves and watching your process is extremely helpful...you just have a great sense of waves...thanks!
Thank you for showing close ups of your brushwork! I feel like I learned a lot just watching you load the brush and especially how you apply the paint to the canvas, and that at least at first, it's thin on the canvas until you figure out your values and placement at least. As a very amateur oil painter, this is the part I never see from other painters, a deep close up of what it looks like! Much thanks!
Once again you’ve amazed us Michael . As often happens I wonder oh goodness what on earth is he going to do with this? But you got the glare right! Almost blinding in the end after arranging the values just right. Good on you !!!
Having followed your work from day 1, this seems a significant advance. Really great emphasis on the application of paint in an impressionistic way whether thet was your intent or not.. Keep going. Keep pushing . Huge potential to pull something off.
The portion of the waves you left unbroken with that gorgeous backlit green colour is fantastic! The glare certainly does look convincing. I agree with you about the problem solving. I love the puzzle of painting. The joy is in the figuring out! Hopefully, we figure it out correctly and the joy is transferred to the viewer. Beautiful, serene painting, Michael.
A beautiful start to my Monday - thank you Michael for sharing so honestly your learning and celebrating creative problem solving. The finished painting is so full of nature’s light and energy.
Love your channel. The glare is still unresolved IMHO, some tiny tiny dark horizontal patterns in the glare would help I think, plus darker adjacent water and softer where the glare meets the sky..Maybe next time. Don't you check how other artists handle it and use that to learn from? You are very inspirational to watch. I'm learning watching you. Thank you.
Very nice painting Michael! As you were painting I had doubts this was going to come together but you nailed it!! You have a great convincing glare on the water.. Thank you for describing your process.
Dear Mr. Chamberlain, your painting videos never fail to make my day. Somehow you always make me feel like I'm Peached Da Vinci, although I can hardly tell my left from right. Beautiful spirit, reflected into your paintings. Take care, stay lucky, lots of love :)
I live on the eastern shore and usually find doing paintings of the surf to be boring, (our beaches do not have any rocks and are pretty flat) but you make them come alive. I will try to do more of these thanks to you and work more with the glare. Thanks for describing the color mixes. I watch you videos regularly to keep motivated.
Such a great tip that you don’t always have to make the lights lighter but making the surrounding darks will indeed make those light areas appear lighter thank you for sharing that it was brilliant
Very nice! Thank you for your demonstration. The painting is beautiful. I just made a mess of trying to put glare on a watercolor painting and cheered myself up by considering it a learning experience.😲
Mike the wave shadows made a real difference, I wasn't sure for a while how it would go but you puled it off and the balancing of darks against the light of the glare on the water did it. Well done mate 😉👏
So maybe "glare" can mean when the darkness around it is a way to see light. I want to try that; I can't see an ocean but my little hill faces sunrise. I think the whole whole winter has been a series of breakthroughs. Thank you again for sharing them so freely.
really love that you added in the glare! i wonder if having a higly saturated color outlining the glare would add a more glowingg effect. sort of like neon signs will have a whiter center and a really strong color outlining it.
Michael, the sunlight you created on the water is more than convincing and I don’t want to use the word “glare” because that word has a negative connotation and your painting is beautiful! Very inspiring as always and I thank you again for your efforts in making these terrific videos that keep this beginner moving forward and not giving up. We have snow here in NH on the ground right now (more to come tonight) and I was wondering if you have ever painted snow scenes that you could share?
Nice one. As far as the "sage" in the glare at the horizon, it might work to ever so slightly bulge it up to fight the optical illusion. The Greeks did a similar trick with their temple columns.
I liked this one, Michael! Your waves have definitely evolved from 3 years ago (ie. Ocean ASMR - ua-cam.com/video/1rBZ81iAdUs/v-deo.html). I still watch that ASMR video from time to time. One thing I like and picked up from you is that randomness you put in your work without calculating every little thing.

Thanks Suz!! I was standing about 15 feet above sea level in this video. I noticed that the water had risen that high earlier in the morning! Fortunately there wasn't any damage.
Glare achieved ✔️ The confidence you have with your medium supports problem solving. My takeaway from this video? Lights are effective largely because of the surrounding darks.
Love the black , gold inner , frame Mike. Great added " 💥 " PoP ! to the white water imo. Is the frame a new style for a show ? Cos it looks good. Hwyl
I have been watching your videos for some time now, and as always, they are spectacular! :) I have been wanting to get into painting for some time now, but I don't really know where to begin or what medium I should start with first. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Thanks!

You proved me wrong! Thought this scene looked “boring!” Love your painting technique and use of colors, and that you tell us their names!
Thanks Debi!
Beautiful painting. You captured the scene so well that the viewer, looking quietly at the scene can feel the light causing the glare on the water. And, the viewer can hear the incoming waves rushing to the beach shore line. Great painting!

You have the greatest outdoor studio, incredible
What a beautiful “experiment.” Adding the darker colors at the end was the perfect move. Great teaching moment. Thank you.
Thanks David!
This was wonderful! It was actually suspenseful! You solved the problem! Beautiful!
Thanks Sally!
You are truly on the top of your game! You captured the light beautifully.

Thank you, Michael ... I need this, this morning ... have a great rest of you Sunday!
Thanks Robyn!
Great again. Love the close ups parts of the video while you are explaining and painting. Feeling what you are doing! THANKX!
Thanks Jan!
Yes. Something about this painting (and the video) just says 'yes' to me.
Really effective! Lovely!
Your comments were very helpful.
Thanks
Thanks Katherine!
Your attitude toward the process is what helps me the most with painting, and I think this painting is a winner!
Thanks Lesley!
You’re such a good teacher. And I love your work. Your life is a beautiful teaching. Grateful.

Oh Mike, you nailed it . Great job.

Beautiful! The close up footage on the brush strokes is great. The glare looks very on point with the right values around it.
Thanks Martin!
You nailed it!! Love the green shadow in the waves.
Thanks!
What a beauty!!! Often when I watch you paint, I think your brush has a mind of its own! Glad to see you on high ground! Stay well NM Fran
Thanks Fran!

So therapeutic watching you paint and listening to the ocean! 🌊

Problem solving in PAINT!! you did an excellent job on that glare..I have struggled with glare before and it's a challenge.!!
YES! Thanks!

Thanks Matthew! Painting became more fun and the results were better when I started focusing on problem solving.
Love this
Beautiful Michael.

I'm learning watching you. Thank you.
It's lovely, the dip is cos there is a stroke if dark sky at horizen that ends suddenly
Your painting reminds me of the work of Alexander Harrison (1853 -1930). He painted some great marines, as do you.
Thanks Andy! I love his marines. You can tell he observed very carefully and wasn't relying on formula.
Gorgeous. Loved watching this one come together - the greens, the purples, the yellows….
Thanks Maura!
I like the painting...the glare looks convincing...especially like the darkest wave at the top 1/3...keep up the good work!!!
Thanks Kerry!
So good! You nailed the waves in this one man. 🤙🏾👋🏽
Thanks brother! Painting waves never gets old. Such a fun challenge.
Very nice painting Michael! As you were painting I had doubts this was going to come together but you nailed it!! You have a great convincing glare on the water.. Thank you for describing your process.

Nicely done, sir!

You captured the glare beautifully.👌 Nice painting 👍

I like it. Sometimes I can’t see what you see. I love the results and I think where did all this come from. Wonderful.
Thanks Janis! The camera rarely captures the beauty of the real thing. That's why I paint the ocean from life. It's so much more inspiring. 😊
Such a great tip that you don’t always have to make the lights lighter but making the surrounding darks will indeed make those light areas appear lighter thank you for sharing that it was brilliant

I love this!!

Thanks Mary! You could try painting glare on a lake if you've got one nearby.
I wonder if the shape of the light reflection makes it look like the horizon line is bit dipping down. Beautiful colours. Thank you for your video
I'm watching in the middle of an ice storm in South Carolina. No plein air painting here.
Me too! Hey from Aiken!
@@jaibriaknajarai562 Rock Hill here! Lots of sleet but no snow. At least we have power.

That could be fun to experiment with!
Yes that worked out really well...impressive!
Thanks Paul!
That’s great. You did an amazing glare painting with a surfer in it some time ago and I can’t remember how you did that one - totally convincing!
Thanks Elisabeth!
Great painting!!
Thanks!
I love your work

Palette imagery at 1:32 , bottom right of the green, w/ blue , touch of burnt sienna, brush tip is lifted, “” Good Morning Michael “” 😆

Wooow thats so beautiful, amazing. #art

Nice! Good value and color tones.
Cheers
Thanks Roger!
Nice one. As far as the "sage" in the glare at the horizon, it might work to ever so slightly bulge it up to fight the optical illusion. The Greeks did a similar trick with their temple columns.
Thanks Rick! I was thinking the same thing. I noticed the "sag" in the video clip of the glare as well so I'm sure it's some sort of optical illusion.
I have really enjoyed watching and trying to follow along. I do have one question. Do you teach in person classes? 😊
Not currently. Maybe in the future!
I liked this one, Michael! Your waves have definitely evolved from 3 years ago (ie. Ocean ASMR - ua-cam.com/video/1rBZ81iAdUs/v-deo.html). I still watch that ASMR video from time to time. Glare on water is great. Just a suggestion from what I observed from the scene…wasn’t the sky above the glare on the water lighter too?
Pretty good painting, sir! I think it worked out well! A new camera I see?! Btw. I like this painting too, behind you. 11:29 lol
