Really enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing. Gorgeous painting! I love the rhythm of the shapes you created with the branches; those little bits of visible underpainting really make the light sing!
beautiful painting and great video. i love seeing the scenery and blue sky over there, we are buried in snow and ice here on the east coast and seeing a lot of grey!
Very nice. Couldn’t help but notice those trunks behind you around the 1:30 mark. They had some gorgeous warm reflected light on their undersides coupled with cooler shadows casting on the ground. Would love to see you work your magic with that too. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Unfortunately I could only see those colors while standing under the trees, in the shade. Maybe I'll paint a composition from under the trees next time 😊
What a beautiful place and painting. Watching you paint and hearing the waves is magic. Thank you again Michael for sharing so much of your creative process.
Beautiful painting as always! I love the contrast between dark trees and ocean and white water. I especially appreciate your sharing a description of your struggle with choosing the right colors in the shadows. You did an amazing job as the colors you settled on are luminous and shadowy at the same time! Would love to see a video on how you arrived at those. Love them. Thanks for another superb video!
Yes, now that's what Im talking about, like the design, like under paint burnt siena showing through, I have always liked back light scenes, impasto over thin, I feel treats subtle depth. great sense of colour, Thanks for sharing.
Love it! The water pattern and colors look great. I bought some art supplies a couple of days ago so I can go back to paint and the inspiration is most welcome.
Your strong sense of dynamic brushwork is again happening in this painting.. I love the MONTEREY Cypress and have painted them before...They have such a STRONG horizontal design so I was hoping you'd go horizontal to emphasize their unique structure!!! pleeezz try it next time!
Thanks. I'll try a horizontal composition when I paint the distant view. I was mostly interested in capturing the feel of being on the edge of a cliff, looking down into the water. The vertical composition seemed to work best for portraying a sense of height.
I really like this one. Even with the darks, it is good because it creates a strong pattern. I like the warm burnt sienna that peeks around the edges of the tree trucks and branches as it suggests the light hitting the other side and that is often where the light show up in a backlit subject.
Thanks Kathy! Yes, I agree regarding the burnt sienna. I always have to remind myself to leaves some peeking through. Once you've painted over it it's gone!
I know this spot!😉, really nice painting . Those trees are so hard to paint so many branches and foliage shapes, but you got them looking great and your water is beautiful
Amazing location! So beautiful! The painting is awesome, sir! I like the water and the rest. You know, I can feel the windy weather from this painting. Great effect! Have a good one!
I loved this…I hope when you go back you do the zoomed out version of that same group of trees because they had a nice shape. And all of the burnt sienna popping through was wonderful!
@@chamberlainpaintings I looked up Moss Beach to see if I had been there and I hadn’t but there’s a “Secret Cypress Trail” there with a beautiful path through a giant cypress grove. You’ll love it!
Beautiful location, beautiful painting ! Moments of peace and tranquility, thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to include everyone of us in your life
Michael - 0:02 - just left of center foreground , in the opening new video /painting location , red tipped amber rests in sunlight of the backlit composition’s shadow, your commentary speaks of seeking color , possibilities of experimentation after drying, love this view you’ve chosen, Good morning 😌
, , , your suspenseful commentary, and in open dialog , and a cliffhanger painting, or sequel , the world watch’s and wonders, actually a beautiful painting too as is, you mix mystery , intrigue , imagination, love your creativity ❤️
Given me some ideas on a work I did last week Mike where yhe clojd was very lilac to purple and having the reflected colour in yhe white water, nice one mate 👍
A new location with a dramatic view Another video deserving a billet-doux Needs to decide to zoom in or out Focused on design throughout Values shift to Poseidon’s steady hum Shadows use cadmium yellow medium Strong simple shapes, convincing feeling of light Check out Patreon, you’ll be feeling alright 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 What a dramatic scene! I hope you get the time to do a zoomed out version too. The painting is simply incredible. Really beautiful. The way you captured looking into the light is very dramatic but not too stark. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
How do you keep your Liquin itself from drying up in the jar. Everytime I buy a bottle, it hardens within a month or so to become unusable. Very nice effort. I feel like there's quite a bit of color there and the shadows are my favorite thing. Hope you don't tweak it too much!
Thanks Mel! I think I'm going to leave it as is. As for Liquin, I buy it in very large containers and so far I haven't had a problem with it drying out. I pour out smaller amounts into an old vitamin bottle which I bring into the field.
@@chamberlainpaintings I believe I have tried all of the Gamblin mediums and Neo-Megilp is my favorite. I just love the texture and that it doesn't seem to effect colors later (no yellowing). It is so silky. From the Gamblin website: "Neo Megilp is a contemporary version of Maroger. This soft gel medium maintains the body of oil colors, increases transparency and flow, and imparts a smooth, silky feel. Neo Megilp dries at a moderate rate and remains workable for hours. Neo Megilp gives colors a satin gloss."
There is something great in the negative painting around the trees. I also love how much is suggested rather than painted. Another awesome painting.
Thanks Carl!
Nice one! I really appreciate the frequent close-ups of the painting in progress
Thanks Mark!
Gorgeous location and composition. The thick whitewater brushstrokes next to the transparent rocks are lovely, as are the aqua and blues in the water.
Thanks Maura!
It seems that the color of this painting can be richer and stronger, especially the brightness of the light between the sea and the shade.
I love the way you paint water. Great light coming through
😊🙏

I love the composition.
I really love the design. It was working before you even started the second layer when you stood back it was like wow, it already looks nice. Great!!
Thanks Lesley!
This is an absolute beautifully place to paint ! And also the sound of the waves make it so pleasant to watch 🧘🏽♀️
I can't wait to go back. The only challenge with that location is the wind. I'm going back the next calm day!
I really like this one. Back lit is difficult no doubt. Love it.
Glad you like! Backlit is rough on the eyes 😂
Love the feeling of light you created in this one!
😊
Love your composition!
Every successful painting! Love the dark variety in the trees without using black. Lot of life in those darks.
Thanks Edith! 😊
Sweet dreams Mike 😇💫
Another great video
Thanks for the tips on mixing colour
Going to try purple and yellow ochre
You are inspiring Michael
Thanks Barb! Yes, give it a try! It's become my favorite color mix for establishing the darks.

Thanks Martin! Glad you're getting back to painting!
I like how the burnt sienna/ultramarine, and purple/yel ochre create variations of warm and cool shadows on the tree trunks.
one of my favorites... subtle value control at the very extremities

Really like the shapes in the trees and rocks and the tones in both the darks as well as in the water. It gives a very dynamic feeling.

As always a good time learning from you. Do you see that you have tangents? The branches and the waves. The eye will always go to a tangent.
There are always a few things missed in during the process. I usually do minor touch ups after the painting dries.
Great design, very strong. I reallyblike it!
