Hello O.D., your very welcome. You know, for years I have had aquariums. I've got 4 right now. I always make my own lids for the tanks. So that would be great for a terrarium. Good luck!
I don't know why you aren't that much popular as you should be. Your working skill & instruction are awesome. Your glass breaking technique seems different then other. I am interested for a close view of that, or you could make an tutorial video about it.
Hello, Thanks for the compliment. Are you referring to breaking the box apart? Or are you referring to me cutting the original pieces with which I built the box? I could made a short little tutorial if you thought it would be helpful. Let me know. Thanks, John
I was referring those original glass pieces breaking style of yours. Seems like you put something under the cut and break them quiet easily. When i try to break, the glass often doesn't apart according to the cut.
I really enjoyed this video and really learned. I think I have the confidence to build the box I want from bevelled panes. What type of glue did you use and what is the name of your silicone? Thanks very much. I'll let you know how my project comes out. Blessings!
I am using this method to hinge 4 glass aquarium lids for a savings(including the glass, silicone and pull knobs)of about $100, and from what I have researched, if done properly, can last over a year with once or twice a day use; and heck, if the joint fails, scrape it off and try again. :)
Hey FangBlah, I just did the same for my aquarium. I was doing a thorough cleaning on my tank and my wife accidentely stepped on my lids and broke them. Your silicone hinge should outlast those plastic hinges the aquarium stores provide. And your right... if it does rip, you can just make it again. Way cheaper than buying new. Thanks for commenting!
@@cornerstone-glassworks So far so good. I used GE #1 silicone because it is very safe for fish when cured, and it has held up as a hinge for a few months with no tearing at all for now; and they even stay open. I used silicone to glue marbles on for pull handles and they are holding up good as well.
Hey, that's awful nice of you to say. Thanks for taking the time to watch. Let me know if there are any techniques you might be interested in seeing done. Thanks again!
Hello Bonnie, Just about any ole silicone will do. Just look for something that says 100% silicone. Something that claims to be water proof. Used in bathrooms. Good luck.
@@cornerstone-glassworks thank you for a quick response. Just wanted to make sure. My concern is how to make a good straight even line. I'll have to practice before I do the real project.
@@bonniewilliams9171 Well, going back to the video.......the tape we put down was to give us a straight line on both sides of the silicone after trolling it on. Just a reminder, you pull the tape off while the silicone is wet. Ciao
@@cornerstone-glassworks thank you I will rewatch it for sure. I had been looking for this video but just found it lately and I was happy because I really want to build this box.
Very cool, thank you. I want to make my own fish tank lid. ❤️🇦🇺
Thank you for making this video! I’m going to make a terrarium using this hinge method

Me too I’m here for the same thing…Just get silicone with no fungicide…I got aquarium silicone at petco petsmart doesn’t carry it.

great video. think this may solve my problem. have a 2 piece glass rear window on my convertible top in which the extruded hinge has failed.

This vs soldering? This seems so incredible easy and low cost compared to soldering.
Great information . Thank you sir.
Thanks for saying. I'm glad you found it useful.
What glue were you using to make the box? Thanks for the detailed instructions on making a silicone hinge I will definitely be trying that myself.
Hello! Need to know what type silicone do I need? Im subscribed!
