Sorry about the de-listed chainsaw mill video. I've tried uploading it three times now, and the audio just isn't turning out. I'll try a new edit today.
As a solution to the issue with your chainsaw's teeth digging into your tool box; you could try screwing a scrap piece of sheet metal or plywood to that area so it wouldnt be digging directly into the box. That doesnt stop the teeth from going dull, but it's the first solution that came to mind. Just a thought. Keep up your amazing work Pocket.
Love all the little details in this. The copper rope jazz made me smile, as did many other parts of this vid, including the all too familiar chainsaw jostling about shenanigans. Thanks for sharing :) I now keep my chainsaw inside my ply quadbox, the guidebar has a little slit to stick out of...
Love the tool box. I don't have any leather to hand so I'm going to try a strip of inner tube instead. I was listening to a podcast (A Problem Squared) and one episode one of the hosts sounded really quiet, despite it sounding fine in the editing software. I turns out that one of the audio channels got flipped and was cancelling out the other channel, like noise cancelling headphones work. The strange thing was, this didn't effect all listening devices or podcast platforms. To fix the quiet audio, they just flipped one of the stereo audio channels and when the edit was compiled, the problem was resolved. I wondered if this information might be of some use with your issue. Thanks for another great video.
Perfect quarantine viewing. Box is awesome! I think there's some cool potential with the handle, and the lid is really great. Keep up the great work, Mr. Pocket! Hope you and your family are well
I like the box. nice cover and neat handel idea. if i was going to do it i would switch out the rope with a copper tube and buff it with scotch bright or maby corode it with vinegar to keep with the army theme ;)
When the handle is down, it also takes less vertical space, which is an additional benefit. You could also add latches or some other mechanism to keep the slotted pieces down and in turn hold the rope down. Nice job!
I suggest the same thing. use a strip of wood slightly thicker than the orange guard above and below the guard attached the length of the box and then a piece of plywood over the strips. like the lid for chain box, but attached to the side of the toolbox. A small scrap of wood placed at the right spot would stop the saw from sliding all the way to where the bucking bar makes contact with the box. When you arrive pull the chainsaw out with the orange guard and carry it separate from the toolbox. A simple leather strap with buckle could also be used to attach the rope to the white pvc. A pet collar would work fine for that as well.
I'm betting you could make a pretty cool "chainsaw scabbard" so that your saw mounts say on a side of your rack. Plywood and screws and a way to mount it at an upright angle (bar facing down) like folks do with their hunting rifles off ATV's. Might free up some space on the back for gas cans and bar oil.
Personally, I’d take some of that rubber roofing you used for the bottom of the box (or thicker material if available) and layer it, then attach it to the corner closest to the chainsaw’s bucking bar (the toothed part that dug into the corner of the box). If you have any old tires, this would be a perfect application! Absolutely love the box Pocket! Keep up the great work! :D
Maybe some type of vertical chain saw scaboard/sheath. I'd be interested in your take on that idea. The box lid idea is brilliant. Thanks for the video.
They make retractable ratchet straps they are awesome. The fact you don’t have a bunch of stap cord hanging all over. I was saying to hold the box down the hassle free lol
I know you like to make your own do dads, but a strip of industrial grade velcro on the bottom would grab that carpet pretty nicely I would think. ( I was looking for the mill video. Wanted to double check the chain bar attachment.) Thanks' Love this box also.
Bungee cords.. It's an overly simplistic answer but it is what it is. I always tried to find elegant fancy ways of keeping things on my bike but bungee cords always won. Mostly because I could just keep them on the bike and they're surprisingly versatile if you get creative. They get weathered and gross and the elastic goes bad if you overstretch them all the time like I do. But they're cheap, light, and get the job done.
metal plate shield on banged up box corner. ore of that copper pipe split and unrolled wold keep with the theme and is softer than the saw teeth so it wont harm them.
I imagine the lid might turn out to have alternate uses. Not that I can think of one immediately but a sturdily jointed pair of boards with lips at either end might turn out useful as a prop of some sort
Magnets in the bottoms of wood handle parts that snap to magnets in the side of the box when the handle is dropped down? Ought to hold the handle and the top in place, yet be easy to unsnap to get into the box. As for the chain saw, just add a leather flap to the factory chain cover to cover up the spikes. As a side note, that axe cover in the box looks way too much like an omelet and now i can't un-see it lol
If you are carrying the box, saw, and axe together, why not make slots or hooks on the box to tie everything together? Hooks can snag, but if you spaced another piece of wood away from one side the thickness of the chainsaw’s blade guard, you could just slide it in. No locking system necessary, just enough to help hold it in place. Maybe wrap the corner with leather to grab the blades that would otherwise dent and chip the box? As for holding everything to the atv, why not 3-4” pvc cut in half with another leather hinge on one side, and a latching system on the other side. Since golf balls are your thing, maybe you could make a larger version of a coin purse clasp that just presses two spheres together to overlap. It is probably too big and bulky, but it would be one piece and not require a pin or bolt. Plus, it’d be a fun challenge to get the tension just right so you could reach back and unlock everything with one hand.
do you know those clamp mechanisms on bikes? i mean on top of the back wheel, if you want to transport something. maybe a similar solution might work here as well
To hold the chainsaw in place, what if you cut a pvc 1/3 and screw it to the floor so the lowest part of your handel/guard can go in the pvc. Sorry english is not my first language.
Wrap the rope in some leather to give it a little more weight and stiffness and make it more like a hold down bar. Also, add a bumper similar to a 2x4 to the box to keep the chainsaw kick barbs away from the box. You could add hooks to the ends of the box, similar to a rifle rack, to hold the splitting axe and also be a bumper for the chainsaw.

The box looks nice! A big sticker of your favorite band would be the finishing touch :D
free advertising? hell no

Excellent design and build. I found this video because I was interested in the leather strap hinge.
Bungee cords to secure everything and you're good to go. Nice functional build!
Awesome solution!! Digging it. I might build one for my tractor instead of buying a box.
Like the lid too. Maybe an added rail out of pvc towards the base of the box with a pool noodle to keep it in tight?

well done - clever - maybe adding a wooden sheath to the length of the box that the chainsaw could slide into would help secure both box and saw?? 😊

you and andrew camarata are my top 2 youtubers to relax to.
Very neat as always!
Maybe have some kind of swinging hooks that pivot around the back fence of the ATV?

Hey pocket, love you. Keep up the amazing videos ❤

Could you replace the rope with a thick dowel or a length of pvc pipe to make it less awkward to use with one hand?
I love the lid!

1:58 For a split second, my brain was trying to figure out what kind of chainsaw-powered vehicle you were driving. :D
If you use the rough side of Velcro on the bottom of the box, it'll stop it sliding around on carpet. Useful in the car also.
Add some rings to the rear bar of the ATV, some loops to the box and then just use some s hooks or carabiners to attach them together

You could always add a sacrificial board to absorb the impact of the chainsaw

bungee cords to hold things down?
I'm probably not in much company of any sort in this camp, but I rather like the color of that box.
If Walt Whitman made a box it
would look like this.
We used to have a mango crate on the back of our four-wheeler with a quick release function

Use two quick-release seat belts for the chainsaw and replace the rug(?) like material on the ATV with some kind of thick rubber or gripping material.
So is this like an Apollo 13 style problem? We know you have golf balls, bicycle inner tubes, pvc pipe, and plywood available...
You could put a piece of that rubber on the side of the box so the chainsaw doesn't damage it
@5:01: " for a barbarian like myself"... Pocket circa 2020... Love it
I love how your projects are like 100% not like Andrew Camaratas. Both awesome though.
I really like the lid design. why can't they design a cooler with a lid like that? It would be perfect.
Bungee cords are inescapable in this usecase I'm afraid 😅
i would say add a section of thick leather or thick rubber on the chainsaw side so the teeth don't dig in
Nothing a bungee cord won't handle.
2 bungee cords would keep them secured down without a problem
I actually like the color :(
i thought it was candy in the bottles
where's the food?
i'd load that box with water, apples, a cereal bar, a banana, one or two sandwiches...
bungee cords
Bungee them down.
