    Fusion 360 is such a good software, you have to watch multiple online tutorials just to find the save files...

  • @RodanChi

    "Files taking up too much space", "saving files inside of the auto desk application is better", your kidding me right? Autodesk (by design) is putting you in a position that makes it difficult for you to migrate to a competitors product. Autodesk is holding your work hostage.
    Fusion 360 is an amazing product but be mindful of this "Feature".

    I found FUSION 360 and could NOT figure it out. Then I found your videos, you're a great teacher! THANK YOU! Designed a nine piece project, then went back to your videos and found out how to draw each component with dimensions. THANK YOU AGAIN!! So the question is, can I group it all together so I can share it all with just one link and if so how?

    Bah, the traditional saving method should be included too, I don't want to live my life in the cloud (plus this menu system is just confusing). I know this is not your fault, please forward my frustration to the developers. Thank you for the video.

    Great video as always Lars. I have a question for you:
    My cache is currently set to 60 days, but files and projects that are a lot older, are still showing in the data panel and they open without any issues at all. Is it that the older (than 60 days) files are being re-downloaded from the cloud to my local cache.
    I'm just wondering if, after the 60 days, I will still have access to all my files (however old they are) directly within Fusion 360?
    Hope this makes sense

    If cloud functionality were for the benefit of the user, it would be an option. The fact that it's mandatory makes it clear that this is for the benefit of Autodesk.

      There is the option to turn off syncing to the cloud within Fusion. There are also a program called Autodesk Inventor. It only runs local.

    • @jasonburbank2047

      @@cadcamstuff How do I turn off cloud syncing? I can't find the option and Autodesk says on their website that this is not possible. knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Can-cloud-storage-in-Fusion-360-be-disabled-in-favor-of-a-local-on-premise-server.html
      It looks like Inventor is going for around $2000. Fusion360 is free to home users for 12 months. (Not exactly apples to apples.) What happens after 12 months? Who knows?

  • @grappler185

    You explained how we could limit the time a file is stored locally. Is there a way to limit how long it stays in the cloud. Can we prevent our files from going to the cloud at all?

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 років тому

      Hi grappler185 Thank you for watching!
      You can. If you go offline and clear your cache. But, the software is really not meant not to be connected to the cloud.
      Inventor would be an Autodesk product that would be really good at that.

    It's simple. It's hard not to spill a big rant but it's so typical of vendors pushing the whole cloud b/s these days. Why lock this down? Maybe the user doesn't want or need version control. Autodesk "forcing" saves to their storage is very shifty indeed.
    Deal breaker for me. Off to find another app from a choice of many. Sad because this looked like a good option and Lars your tutorials are exceptionally good.

    • @marklowe7431
      @marklowe7431 6 років тому

      Thanks Lars. I'm all for the sharing library and collaboration with others. It has it's obvious benefits for all. Autodesk just don't need to lock out local save to maintain cloud integration. It sends a signal that they use force to steer market rather than leading by demonstrating its merit.

    • @voiceforjusticeandproporti5543
      @voiceforjusticeandproporti5543 5 років тому

      @@marklowe7431 Lars, thanks for the tutorial and the time ... ... Unfortunately, I agree with Mark. Its really seems like a coercive tactic by Autodesk to force users to put their work onto the cloud and make it incredibly cumbersome to save locally at a location of your choosing. Mark, I recommend you donate to the Linux Development projects. FreeCad www.freecadweb.org/ is working hard to develop an open source and free solution to CAD/CAM on linux. Its still very much unpolished and in development (for obvious reasons related to funding). But recently they have released tools for toolpath/CAM control. I'm donating to them - I'm slowly switching my work flow completely to Linux and open-source tools. But they need all the support they can get: www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Donate

    • @marklowe7431
      @marklowe7431 5 років тому

      @@voiceforjusticeandproporti5543 Funny you should say that. I'm now using freecad. I'm also a long term user of Eagle and with Autodesk now owning that too, its future looks dim. It already requires online login and i'm assuming they will cloud mandate its usage at the cost of the customer. I renewed my license for Eagle about two weeks ago. Logged a support ticket to find out where it is and still no response. I've since swapped to KiCad which is open source as well. It's also very good. Short term pain learning it but it's less pain than dealing with cloud crazy vendors. Only losing clients will make these vendors realize cloud is not always appropriate. Their initiative to host user community and share is a great one. Forcing it isn't imo.
      I'd be very happy to pay a sensible license fee for both and be able to save local. Their call, but their loss. The irony is open source software is not only amazing, I pay them a donation each year anyway. They deserve it.

      @@marklowe7431 I hear you there. I also used to be an avid user of eagle! ... I've switched away from it and I'm now using Kicad as well! This cloud business really is frustrating. Autodesk .. guys really - you are producing some great software. But this cloud business .... I second Mark on this don't force users.

    Hello Chris, I'm moving from SW and I want to program G code. I have 4 parts to make from the same piece of material and I have the modeled the raw material also, now the question is how do I position the machined bodies with respect to the raw material faces?, let say at 0.02" measured at the sides of the raw material. If you ever used Solidoworks, the mate called DISTANCE is what I'm trying to find in FUSION. That mate allows me to position planar faces at an especific distance each other.

    I'm starting from the beginning here, so excuse me if i'm going over old info but looking at #LarsLive 24 you state in the File drop down menu you have "New Design from File" I'm using Fusion 360 on a startup licence and this is not and option. I do have the option of "New Drawing From File" is this just a play on words or is it something completely different?

    confusing? It doesn't upload files!!! They are stuck, says the autohelp - the suggestion is to redesign your computer, make your own camera, order some 35mm film and get Elon to drop it off from one of his rockets! Thesolution is to grab a pencil, ruler, and cartridge paper, and design the damn thing yourself! These programmes are all the same, 'all fur coat and no knickers'!
