*Love this unit! Using upstairs in my sons bedroom **Fastly.Cool** and he’s finally able to be comfortable upstairs without me freezing downstairs. Works for more sqft than expected!*
I live in Colorado and I’ve had this unit for about 2 years. First, it creates a tremendous amount of water (about 4.5 Qt every 6 - 8 hours.) The unit kept making gurgling sounds because the tank was full. Instead of shutting off, it would leak water out of the bottom. I resorted to making a drip pan on stilts that allow me to slide a plastic container underneath the unit to easily empty the water. They are 5.75 qt containers, which is how I know how much water it produces. Second, portable AC units create a vacuum. To make it more efficient, I had to find air leaks in the room and try to seal them (mostly the door). I ended up purchasing a magnetic insulated thermal door which works nicely. I also added foam tape around the door jam and draft stopped on the bottom. I’ve also sealed around the windows with duct tape and foam, but this does prevent opening the windows. I’ve also insulted the exhaust hose and created a vent that directs the cold air further away from the unit. With that said, in a 12 x 12 room the unit drops the temperature just a few degrees depending on how hot it is. As I write this, I’ve had the unit on for about 3 hours and the temperature has dropped from 75 to 73.
I have had one approximately 2 1/2 years and it has always been very loud when the compressor kicks on and recently the left digital number has changed from six and seven settings to one and two.
Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
P.s. they are not all the same.. this is me in 2023 just bought the 8000 btu unit thinkng it had a front facing vents, it does not.. its FACING UP! arrg.. it would be perfect if it faced forward.. now I have to return it and buy the 12btu unit to get the front facing vent.. Its very cool, easy to install.. very cold, will NOT WILL NOT cool an entire living room (800btu) maybe a small bedroom.. so now to get the larger one.
I purchased this A/C for my bedroom 3 mos. ago. I think it was used and may be defective. The reason I think this is #1 on both sides there is clear heavy-duty tape along the seam (maybe it had to be opened and repaired), also I noticed last night it was spitting out water with the cool air. I have a 12000 portable A/C in my living room and it's never done that. I've never had to empty out water from its chambers either. When I got home this afternoon, there was water coming out under the unit. I opened both drains and very little water came out. The water that did drain out was filled with little pieces of (IDK what). I just plugged it back in and it's spitting out water again!!! Have you experienced any of this? Thanks for any input.
My window opening is only 18 inches wide. will that accommodate the BLACK+DECKER BPACT08WT 8000 BTU Portable? Also, how often do I need to empty the water from the humidity?
Thank you so much for making this review. I’ve been thinking about getting this but I don’t make a lot of money and I didn’t want to buy something I didn’t know how to use so I really do appreciate it. again, thank you so much.👍
Good review. My old GE 8000 BTU (circa 2006) finally gave up on me so I was interested in the Black and Decker. The only concern I have is running it to the attic like I did for the other one. It may not like long extensions but will have to see.
Yes, the exhaust hose has to be used. All air conditioners exhaust heat that they extract from the room, and without the hose attached to vent it, it would just blow the hot air back into the room
I have this same exact model, purchased it last year 2020 was wondering if you needed to add water to it? I live in Portland Oregon in a medium sized studio apartment. It keeps my place comfortable, but I wouldn't say cool by any means. Do I need to add water?
is yours loud? Mine keeps switching from low speed to high speed on its on and the noise is really loud, it aslo causes the lights in the room to flicker when it happens any suggestions?
Does it actually cool the air though? Or is it just a fan? And how's about you let us hear it while it's on a little to judge how loud (or not loud) it actually is. Please...I'm burning up
@@tetralifestyle777 okay thank you for that. So far this is looking like the best one. Been looking for about a week now and so many of these portables seem to be such let downs according to reviews

Do you have this unit in a room thats on the 2nd floor? Im on teh 2nd floor where I live and it gets way hotter up here than downstairs in summer. Does this one do well upstairs??
@@MPDLR That's what's great about this A/C. Self-evaporating which means it uses the water to cool down the compressor. And if it can't do it fast enough it will let you know to drain. Drain port in the back comes with a clear tube.
Hi there! I was looking to get this unit for myself! Just curious how was the setup? did you need to use a saw or was it easy to adjust the boards when you placed them in your window?
I just did this same unit for my girlfriend yesterday yeah I did had to use a saw to cut the smaller window filler portion to fit in a small window reason why both pieces that came in the box was too short for the larger window side but basically a simple modification and easy setup, even though her room size is roughly a 20x12 we had a issue of it cooling the area down but we might had figure that the drain hose goes to the middle of the back of the unit instead of the one to the floor of the unit.
Question to the other guys. So I have a grow tent 4x4 if I put it inside that tent with the hose running outside of it is that fine? Or does the hose have to run out of a window
Slacks_SS I'm having trouble picturing your situation. Na matter what it is: the room you want to cool needs the best insulation you can get, most importantly sealing all places where air can escape. The hose needs to send hot air outside. Through a window, hole, whatever. Also seal around it.
@@SlackeredForLife if you run out just outside the tent, you will heat up the room the hose is run into. An air conditioner takes the heat from the area its in and blows it out the hose or outside in traditional window units.
Mine just arrived, I know it said to leave upright for 24 hours but I went ahead and turned it on anyway, its not blowing 64 degree cold air at all. It made my apartment bearable but its certainly not blowing cold air like past window AC's have. Also it shut off about 3 times in 2 hours. I shut it off and Im going to let it sit for 24 hours before turning it back on. Anyone got any ideas on something I may be doing wrong? The waiting period is to allow the coolant inside to settle back to where it should be in case the unit was not sitting upright during shipping. Hate to say it but not allowing for that probably is what messed it up. Sorry :(
