  • I compiled the restoration videos to give a quick 15 minute view of the work I did on my Cub Cadet 1440. I still have this tractor and it has been one of my favorites.

Now thats a good machine. Those are the very early made MTD Cub Cadets, after they acquired them from International Harvester. It almost looks like they used left over parts from IH to build those very early ones. They did that in the beginning to have their customers remain brand loyal. It didn't last long though. I have a 1980 IH Cub Cadet 1650 by IH one of their last ones built and it is a tank. Sad they don't make anything of quality like this anymore, but it's nice to see a few still floating around.

When MTD acquired Cub Cadet, I'm sure it included all of the inventory and parts. It is built like a tank but changing to a plastic hood and the Vanguard engine. I have a Cub Cadet 106 in line to get restored. Can't wait!

@@SmallEngineDIY I have a IH Cub Cadet 107 and a 682 Cub Cadet in which I suspect that my 682 was one of the first Cubs produced by MTD with IHC parts due to the fact that my tractor doesn’t really say IH nor does it have the CCC insignia that the later 682 Cubs had.
The 682 that I have is a very heavy tractor and I use it for my “Puller” for certain situations.
So a day or so ago, I noticed a couple of 1440 Cubs being advertised and was curious what you thought the going rate would be for a decent 1440. I looked up the 1440 via TractorData.com and was surprised to see that the tractor was still around 700+ pounds pretty much like the original Cubs were.
Was the 1440 Cub Cadet pretty similar to the older Cubs that I am more familiar with or not? One of the Cubs were priced within the $500 range and I was kind of tempted to make contact with the seller. These tractors are so addictive (LOL).

@@TheIronDuke502 $500 is not bad if it is in decent shape. I think the are worth much more if in working order. It is built similar to the IH cubs except for the plastic hood and the Vangaurd engine. The Vanguard is a pretty good engine.

Wow. Fantastic job of making this machine look fabulous once again. Probably better than the machines you can buy today. Lot of time invested but sure sounds and looks great. Thanks for the video's.

The cub cadet 2500, 3000, and xt3 are all built just like this. Same basic build and transmissions but kohler commands which are superior to Briggs vanguard.

Reminds me of what they call a "driver" in classic car circles - "I'm not restoring it to show it, I'm restoring it to use it."

Is there any way you could share a video of the deck belt routing? I just picked up one of these and in the process of replacing the deck belt but the torsion spring pulley is confusing the hell out of me.
