I love audio technica stuff, shure sm57 and 58 are awesome too
It's pretty much a coin toss between my Warm Audio WA47jr and my Lewett LCT Pro 240.
@@CrushingAxes Thanks for sharing!
@@jeremythornton433 very cool! Thanks for sharing!
My Mojave MA-300. I might be biased because it's my first and only tube mic but it sounds incredible and always delivers
This is EXACTLY how a mic should be reviewed! Actually using it, allowing us to hear, mix the tracks, give the tracks away for free! Bravo Warren and friends!
Thanks ever so much!
Wowzers. That's one helluva intro to a review!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks ever so much
Warren, just got your Home Studio Recording book. Great job. Thanks for all the wonderful help you have given us.
Awesome, thank you! I really appreciate your support!
Warren, why have I never thought to pan the reverb opposites on guitar!!! Genius!!
Aha!! You’re the man my friend!
Amazing guitar playing!!
Hey Warren, a bit off topic, but in the late 80's I worked for a very brief period at Mayfair recording studios as a tea boy/ tape op and I used to see your name on loads of multi tracks (Tears for Fears Sowing The Seeds and Woman in Chains) I used to think " Who IS this guy?" Well now I know! Amazing studio but I didn't last long there- I just wasn't mature or focused enough. I have a DAW now so love mixing and love watching your videos ❤
It good to here people with soul, Love everything about this song. Awesome vocals, awesome everything at every phase of the song. Great stuff.
Thanks for sharing Michael!
Thanks Michael!
@@lauraclappthanks ever so much
Just got this mic last month and love it! Deals with plosives and esses extremely well and doesn't pick up the room very much. Great for home recording imho. Thanks for the review Warren!
Exactly the same here, I love it so far.
@@ErixSamson thanks for that I was thinking about it
What you’re saying about the quality of the music and the musicianship is so important. These days everybody’s talking about the mics, the preamps, the processing, etc., but really, if the music isn’t good, the recording quality doesn’t matter. I think maybe $100 is the threshold for a mic to get good quality.
Thank you to all involved here on this wonderful video you all Rock
Thanks ever so much!
The song and her voice were great! Everyone did phenomenal!👌🏻
Thank you 😊
Thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed it
@@lauraclappyou rock!!
You're a good man, Warren, and thorough.
AW shucks! Thanks ever so much!
This mic sounds tremendous on this track! Fantastic.
Well you know our favorite is the SM7B , our show wouldn’t be the same without it.
Great video and recording Warren!
I agree
Glad you like it! Thanks ever so much for sharing
@@timbrown7652 very much so
While I am not in market for mics they sounded really good along with a great song. The level of performance was top notch and I wish that would return to music full stop. Two thumbs up to guitarist/bass player for using a Mesa Boogie rig. He won me over just seeing that alone, because I'm a simple man 😂 but a Mesa Boogie man 😅
Thanks for the delay tip with the deesser!!! I'm gonna do that. I mostly use deessers on vocals, guitar, overheads and sometimes the final master!!
You are so welcome!
By the way Warren, your studio is looking MAAAVELOUS.
Thanks! That’s actually at Brighton Electric
Nice! Great to see Jamie on guitar again. I always enjoy his playing.
Thanks ever so much!
Wow, that guitar solo! Nice
Jamie rules!!
Thanks for the new multi-tracks! Also, I really appreciate the breakdown of the routing with the sends and pre/post fader stuff. I'm still learning some more abstract ways of routing and side chaining with Pro Tools, and it is really handy to see them in your demonstrations with how you are using them. You rock Warren!
Nice to see a heavyweight like Shure introduce a new competitor in the current-economy-priced category. Curious how it stacks up against some established condensers in this range, like Rode NT1-A, for example.
Nice solo! Nice drum sound!
Thanks ever so much
The song is really good! Man i miss the 90's and 2000's when bands played awesome songs like this. I truely hope this genré will maken it back in mainstream again someday..
I've got plenty more tunes from this genre. I hope you'll give them a listen.
Marvellous stuff Laura!
Nice Warren
The Waves MV2 is a brilliant plugin
Marvellous! Thanks for sharing
Song, performance, production. On a related note; while the group used 47's on vocals, brian wilson used a shure 545 for leads on pet sounds. My point? A very inexpensive mic, even for back then proving it's not always the gear or cost. As long as the gear isn't scratchy, broken or pure junk, (even those might have their place, lol), great things are possible. Shure sm4 - a new one to me. Gonna take closer look. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers. 👍
The MV2 rug!
Aha! Indeed
Damn, that's a good song and stunning performance. And of course it sounds good too!!!
Thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you Alex.
@@lauraclappyou rock!!
Wow, Jamie Humphries! So many memories of watching his Lick Library lessons.
Marvellous!
11:00 ducking the OH to make the toms audible on the snare mic, that's a cool little trick! great stuff as always Warren
Shure is a classic, I love 1176 on everything 😅😅😅😅 it really helps on the bottom snare, I disagree I really need expensive stuff, or at least that's what I tell my wife 😂😂😂
Haha thanks for sharing!
The guitar solo was awesome. Wasnt expecting that. it could have gone a very different route.
Thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
This was great fun Cheers! 🥁
Thanks ever so much
That Ray 35 sounds suprisingly pro.
So do you recommend this mic or looking for sth else above 300 usd? Thank you.
I found it to be an excellent mic in its price range!
Great stuff as usual, thanks for doing these
Thanks Jeremy!
I don’t need this mic but still tempted . It’s only $270 @ Sweetwater
Thanks for sharing
Absolutely amazing performance from everyone of you 🔥
Thank you.😊
Thanks ever so much Vitto!

Thanks Tito! I appreciate the shout out. ❤
Great song, great performances. I downloaded the multitracks and did a mix by myself. It was really fun and I wanted to add it to my portfolio but Instagram refused to publish the song due to copyrights… I thought the multitracks by PLAP are free to use for building a portfolio. Can anybody help?
Yes, the multitracks can be used on your website to promote yourself! However, they cannot be used for monetising, they are owned by the artist.
Thanks great show. Nice to learn from you.
You're very welcome!!
Have you any experience with a Rode K2 tube mic? It has its own power supply, multiple pick up patterns, etc. I got mine for around $700.
I believe I may have used one a couple of times at other people's studios although not for vocals so I can't comment from great experience
very gooooood!
Thanks ever so much
So what's your final opinion on this mic? I'm not sure I got it from the video.
Great value for money!! Reproduces what you give it! The rest is up to you! It’s my job to demo it, let you Dowlings the multi tracks and make up your own mind!
Wow great song...awesome music!!
Thanks for sharing
how does it deal with horrible eSSes? I have an artists who has Rode NT USB and the esses completely take your head off.
Download the tracks and hear for yourself! No processing at all
Another Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Ha! Heard what you did there, sir. You don't go out mixing a song dressed like that, do you? On a weekday?
Yes I do! Pretty much what I wear most days! Haha unless I’m at the beach!
❤😊
Thanks ever so much!
I enjoyed this video and learned a fair bit - as usual with anything Warren makes - but it's really not a review of the SM4 in any way, shape, or form. The title's pretty misleading and silly. (Also was anything recorded in a home studio besides the vocals, again despite the title?)
"Working with the new SM4" or something like that would actually represent what it's the video. And, hey, what a valuable kind of video to make - there's often loads of actual review videos where you only hear the mic in isolation. Seeing how it might fit into a pro studio workflow's and a whole recording mix is valuable.
But if someone came here looking to learn much about the SM4 in itself or how it might be useful for their home recording, I think they're gonna be disappointed and need to look elsewhere.
The drums were recorded in an untreated rehearsal room with a lap top and an 8 input 10 year old Focusrite interface (in the same room wearing headphones) couldn’t more basic than that! The vocals were recorded in a home studio, as were the guitars and bass in 2 input low budget interfaces.
This is EXACTLY how a mic should be reviewed. Record with it, I am constantly mystified by the 99.9% of UA-camrs who don't use the mic, don't know how to record and still have a following
Recording drums in a rehearsal room on a lap top with a cheap interface is about as real world as you can get. There's so many times in this video you can hear the mic in isolation AND you c ban download the multi tracks and listen in your environment that you know
@@timbrown7652 thanks ever so much! Yes, it was the most makeshift rock and roll recording! Rehearsal room and home studios!
@@timbrown7652 plus of course a cheap interface!
Glad its not TEMU sponworship
Temu? Don’t know what that is?
