And one for the algorithm/clickbait: World's sexiest, but it's just about animals that have absolutely wild secondary sex characteristics like a peacock's tail or the eyestalks on that one species of fly.
I would like to request world's helpfulest! Highlight animals that do a huge amount of pollination, plants that do a massive amount of carbon capture or produce oxygen, Maya's favourite detritovores! Introduce us to the critters whose absence would kill us all!
i just wanted to say that i find it super helpful when you share good food labels to look for! as someone who often feels very guilty about eating animal products but isn’t able to go vegetarian/vegan, it’s so informative and makes me feel like i’m making a little bit of a difference. i rarely eat seafood but going forward i will be looking for the MSC label, thanks maya!!
I think a cool topic could be World’s Yappiest and it would be about communication in nature (like bees and their colonies or fungi communicating with things around them)
13:18 i live in Europe and i was really surprised your hedgehogs are so tinyyy the max you talked about is what i picture in my head when i think of a hedgehog
I named my recent foster kitten Urchin (we use an alphabetical naming convention so it had to be a U). She came in underweight so she’s really small but she’s a black medium hair and her fur just sticks out in spikes. I love sea creatures and I now have a soft spot for sea urchins especially since they remind me of soot sprites
I was waiting for the hedgehog! I have a rescue from a pet store that is now shut down (thank god). She was malnourished and had a scar on her face bc she was housed with THREE OTHER individuals. Anyways she’s doing great! Yes she’s not that social but neither am I :) she lets me handle her but I value her personal space so whatever. Glad you covered them! I need more people to know about my little hedgie friends. Yes they do not make great pets if you don’t know what you’re doing. (They’re legal in Alabama)
Random manatee story: So in high school I embraced a “mean” nickname people gave me (rhino) and made it my thing so my bullies tried to up it by calling me a manatee. So that night I went on fb and uploaded a ton of adorable manatee photos and proclaimed my love for them.
I suggest world’s nicest! I’m curious about animals in the wild that for one reason or another are known to be friendly/cooperative with people or other species.
Love the show! Idea: Worlds most invasive. Spotted lantern flies are beginning to become quite a problem in my parts (PA) and learning about how to help prevent effects of invasive species and more about this subject would be amazing.
" They were originally sold under the brand name Hedgehog Flavoured Crisps and were produced by Hedgehog Foods. " bruh ...
not sure how to word it but like "world's scariest looking but actually not that dangerous" about the craziest deimatic behaviors (yes, I had to Google it bc I had only heard about it through maya)
HIII worlds wildest, I absolutely love this podcast so much, its so refreshing to see people talk about silly animals, I was wondering if you guys could make a cephalopod episode since they are so awesome and there's so much to talk about regarding them!!!!!! it would be so sick to see!!!
My sister's ex stepped on a sea urchin when they were on vacation and apparently it hurt real bad and the spikes were really hard to get out of the foot. It took several life guards and a lot of "digging" with tweezers to get them out and the wound was irritated for several days afterwards. So all in all not a very pleasant experience I'd say
Holy crap. I had no idea that sand dollars were sea urchins. Or alive. Damn.. I do remember learning that urchins are kinda pests because of how good they are at just eating everything. Same with sea stars "pisaster disaster". We think of them as sedentary. But they can really move..
The thing about having Hedgehogs as pets, because they run so much most people get them exercise wheels, but hedgehogs shit as they run, so the wheel gets all shitty every single day and they keep running so the hedgehog gets covered in shit, so you'll have to clean the hedgehog and the wheel every single day
I know all the online sources list 30cm as the high-end for the size of a hedgehog, but European hedgehogs can definitely get bigger. I've seen a couple 40+ chonkers. They are darker and... well less cute in the face. Unfortunately the most common sighting is roadkill.
the next one should be world's beautifulest, and throw in a couple from the ocean, and some from the land. I have a good creature for the sea, which is a sea angel. it really looks beautiful.
We just put down my pet hedgehog this month after 5 great years together. And I agree they do not make great pets and I would honestly discourage people from getting them… don’t get me wrong I loved him to pieces like literally with my whole heart, he was really sweet!!! BUT social media has given them this image of really cute, cuddly guys who love belly rubs and are really sociable, they aren’t like that at all, they aren’t cats or dogs, they won’t be great friends and building a relationship with them is really hard, the only person in my family who he really liked was me, like he hated my mom and would try to bite her all the time… they are also time consuming and their veterinary care is EXPENSIVE because they are considered exotic pets. They can also get cancer fairly easily and there’s a genetic disease by the name of WHS that affects a good chunk of the population and it’s super sad and painful for them and have to be put down at a relatively young age. Also, idk where Connor got the 11 years under human care? Pigmy hedgehogs definitely do not live that long, usually around 4 to 5 years at the most, my baby was considered pretty old. I’ve heard of some that have lived 6 or 7 years but they are most definitely out of the norm…
okay WW family, bear with me. I am high. However I have a fun idea for any artists if you are ever looking for a prompt. I'm being so dramatic. The Idea: while watching or listening to the pod, combine random parts of the animals, and make versions of them with the combined parts. The Example (from this episode): Hedgehog that can expand 2-3 times its size and can breathe underwater... Guys i made qwilfish Upon Further Inspection, this may just be pokemon... BUT IT WOULD STILL BE FUN
As sea urchins are concerned, we used to have a lot of them in the mediterranian, to the point that when we were little we used to hunt them on vacation and our uncle cooked them
I’ve heard they’re delicious! I’m from the southern US, closest I can relate is catching mainly brim, crappie, and the occasional catfish from lakes when I fished with my family as a kid :)
I had to look up my ruined childhood about sand dollars lmaoo! Cause inside sand dollars, are “doves”! So I was like what are the doves inside if it’s a dead creature?! The pretty doves are its teeth! 😭
I hope everyone knew what Connor meant, but in case not: manatees are related to elephants and hyraxes; they don't descend from them. They just have a common ancestor. What he was trying to say is that we don't know whether they are more closely related to elephants or hyraxes. Sorry to be that guy. It just reminded me of when some people go "Well, if humans descended from apes, why are there still chimpanzees?" And then other people go "Because humans are a type of chimpanzee" Or "Because humans and apes have a common ancestor." Maybe it's just me who gets incredibly frustrated by important details being treated as if they don't matter. It's like if you say "I did kill your mom." And then the person gets angry at you, and you go "Relax, I just forgot one word: I did *not* kill your mom."
Worlds hardest - can withstand the most force/ toughest skin Worlds highest - highest altitude Worlds dryest - longest without water Worlds longest - greatest body length
How about world's wrongest? Could be a wide field to approach, like categorized wrong, live in the wrong enviroment like being invasive, looks like a whole different animal or doesn't look like the size it really is
Guessig the animal the intro is about: Well, you said it this time, it's my 4th favourite Afrotherian: the manatee. (Number one is elephent, then elephant shrew, then dugong)
The "Epic manatee fart" is the thumbnail for a vid from the UA-cam channel Island Metal Forge. It was also one of their first vids. Credit would be appreciated if youre going to use other peoples work. Just saying.
Worlds stealthiest - animals that are the best at keeping themselves shielded simply by camouflage.
Great suggestion!
Great suggestion. But just in case there isn't enough data, since they're so stealthy, what about the world's most visible or noticeable?
yeah, Something like the spider-tailed viper would be so cool to see
I'm picturing an animal in a leather jacket and a hat with sunglasses 😎😂
For a split second I thought this said World's Sluttiest, which would also be a fun one
And one for the algorithm/clickbait: World's sexiest, but it's just about animals that have absolutely wild secondary sex characteristics like a peacock's tail or the eyestalks on that one species of fly.
One should be a sexy shrimp
THIS
@@starsgears9200 like a sexy shrimp!!
Idea: World’s Most Mythical ✨ (animals that are widespread in myths across the cultures of the world)
20:46 “And then he stepped on me! Guy was dancing on me! Look at this- broken, broken, gone, gone, broken, broken broken-!”
That was literally my first thought lmao
17:14 "theres no potato in them :("
I would like to request world's helpfulest! Highlight animals that do a huge amount of pollination, plants that do a massive amount of carbon capture or produce oxygen, Maya's favourite detritovores! Introduce us to the critters whose absence would kill us all!
SUCH A GOOD IDEA AGREED

I love how the standard of measurement for this podcast is Maya 😂 Her dimensions are just convenient
Really enjoyed learning about Burgers the hedgehog, even if the story was also sad. Thank you for turning their life around.
I suggested world's flattest and this made my birthday. Thank you!
Now actually for world's flattest >:D
happy birthday!

SUCH a good idea!
Yes! Like certain species of prairie dogs have insanely elaborate and detailed communication. It’s super fascinating.
This would be really cool if they talked about sperm whale communication 😈
Siren on nr one
In german a seaurchin is literally called a sea hedgehog
Also i never knew that sanddollars really exist, i thought they were an animal crossing thing
In Spanish it’s the contrary lol!!! You have to say a “land urchin” Erizo de Tierra because if you just say Erizo ppl assume its a sea urchin
Gotta say the good ol' Seeigel makes actual sense when u look at them
same in russian lol! морской еж 🌊🦔
13:18 i live in Europe and i was really surprised your hedgehogs are so tinyyy the max you talked about is what i picture in my head when i think of a hedgehog
pls do worlds most unknown, not necessarily rare, just animals that ppl don't rlly know about but should
You could do "World's Worldest" - Creatures that are found all over the world / in the most amount of habitats
This pod is so great thank you guys!! Also I think a “Worlds most creative” about animals that make cool/usefull/pretty things would be rly cool!
oooo yes, like animals who use tools!
24:30 A genuine answer given by an intelligent creature. I would have said the same. Love Conner's energy in this episode.
I named my recent foster kitten Urchin (we use an alphabetical naming convention so it had to be a U). that graffiti fact might be one of the saddest i've ever heard, up there with quokkas being used as balls.
welcome to wild about it
Connor using "Mayas" as a unit of measurement gets me every time 😂
i Just binged to all your YT episodes in two days while playing stardew valley :) i named my Farm Alveus
Apparently in medieval times they thought hedgehogs rolled around to collect fruit on their backs. (They do not)
The artwork for them is just the cutest :') I was going to mention medieval bestiaries if no one else had!
Random manatee story:
So in high school I embraced a “mean” nickname people gave me (rhino) and made it my thing so my bullies tried to up it by calling me a manatee.

I used to see hedgehogs all the time here in England. But now, the last time i saw one was 8 years ago :/
29:58 - I love when we get food label tips! Thanks Maya! 💚
I suggest world’s nicest! I’m curious about animals in the wild that for one reason or another are known to be friendly/cooperative with people or other species.

Italians make pasta with sea urchin.
very true i had it once and it was tasty
29:00 it’s called roe and it’s their eggs
it's called uni and it's their reproductive organ with eggs. the term roe is more used for fish eggs.
Thanks.

Fun fact: Sea Urchins are so-called cause Urchin is the proper name for hedgehogs, kinda like orca and killer whale :p

Can confirm my Italian immigrant grandfather used to eat sea urchin right out of the water when we’d go fishing
As sea urchins are concerned, we used to have a lot of them in the mediterranian, to the point that when we were little we used to hunt them on vacation and our uncle cooked them

can anyone find that 10ft pufferfish?

Has world's fly-est been suggested yet?
I love this podcast, can you do world’s most extreme! That would be awesome, maybe try to make it in the style of the old TV show?

for the record, i think him taking credit for my crappy thumbnail is fine by me haha
Not Connor and Maya looking and being cool
