    very useful info Gendron! You have a good way of explaining things. Your videos help me teach HVAC and basic electrical principles to some of my younger techs out of high school plus help me learn other stuff. Keep up the great work!

    Solid video. I would recommend taking amp draw with the fan door closed. You are trying to move more air than designed and will draw more amps with the door open like that. Belt looked loose at the end of the video.

      Hmmm, I thought the amps would be lower because with the door open, the motor wouldn't work as hard due to the duct work having higher pressure. Basically more resistance (static pressure in this case) more amp draw?

    BK Precision 302, is real helpful in getting rotation right before energizing the motor. No longer in production, so, would have to search eBay for it. It can even test rotation of the motor.

    What if you have 208-230/460//190/380? With a low voltage and high voltage wiring diagrams? If I’m trying to connect for 208-230 which one would I be using?

    • @gendronhvac-r1269
      @gendronhvac-r1269  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I have never seen that ever.
      But If you only have 2 wiring diagrams Then probably low voltage.
      The motors are probably designed to handle voltage from a 190 - 230 Is that would probably be the low voltage.
      And 380-460
      And that would be the high voltage.
      But I have never seen such a thing.
      What I would do is wired in for low voltage.
      Take an amp draw and make sure it's not violating the amp draw on the name plate.
      You might need to adjust the The pully If it's about driven system.
      Make sure it's within the amperage that is outlined.
      Good luck man!

      You could probably do that that's definitely something I would have to draw out. And like test.
      I'm sorry but without being there I couldn't really advise you one way or the other but I think it's a possible approach.
      I know there's multiple kinds of windings for Motors so you would have to know what kind of winding you're dealing with and then kind of work backwards from there.
      Good luck man sorry I couldn't be more help

    When you check amp draw, are you checking between main power and starter?

    • @gendronhvac-r1269
      @gendronhvac-r1269  Рік тому

      So when I would check amdraw in a three phase set up.
      1) Make sure that The air handler is closed. You need to make sure that the panel where the motor is
      , is on, because this will Affect the air flow which will affect the amp draw.
      2) I would take the amp draw just below the motor contactor.
      There is no start capacitor in this setup. But even in that setup I would still just take amp draw below the contactor.
      I hope that helps

    Does that mean the low voltage wiring is a " Star" vs high voltage a "Delta" ? I can't seem to wrap my head around it ?

    • @gendronhvac-r1269
      @gendronhvac-r1269  Рік тому +1

      So if I'm honest I'm not super sure I would have to do some digging into it.
      But from my understanding one configuration is in series and the other configuration is in parallel.
      So if you were to imagine a pair of train tracks.
      You wire it for 230 both train tracks get voltage to it at the same time. This means current is running through both sides of the train tracks at the same time. This is in parallel.
      Line power: ------------------- neutral
      Line power: -------------------neutral
      Then if you wire it for 460. Only one set of train tracks gets the voltage but you add a connector so you connect the tracks. So you make a giant U Shape. This would mean your voltage would have to travel through both sets of tracks before it reach the end. This is in series.
      ===========>
      It's something like that so inside the compressor if there's a bunch of coil windings and what you're doing is you're running windings in series or parallel based on your voltage need.
      I believe the Delta and y variation are just configurations of the winding. If memory serves a Delta has a neutral where a y configuration does not.
      So I don't think the configuration matters I just think that running the configurations in parallel or series is the main issue.
      I hope that helps

    question if you can help me running a VFD with this kind of motor mine is the same but 3hp model number EM3611T. i want to power it with a house hold 220/240 single phase power converted to 3ph. the VFD from amazon i want o get for it puts out 3phase 220v can i run the vfd that outputs that 3phase 220v ?

    • @gendronhvac-r1269
      @gendronhvac-r1269  Рік тому +1

      I have no idea. If i'm honest.
      But using Reasoning skills.
      If the VFD runs off off 240 single phase.
      The converts that to
      208-230 3 phase 60HZ
      And the motor is rated for 208-230 3 phase
      As long as the VFD is rated for the correct amp draw I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.
      I hope that helps. As long as the voltage Output and the Amp draw rating match the motor I think it will be OK.
      But That's just my opinion I've never delt with this.
      Good luck

    Can it work with solar power?

    • @gendronhvac-r1269
      @gendronhvac-r1269  Рік тому

      I suppose it could.
      But you would need a adapter to convert the dc solar to 3 phase 208 AC .
      And it would have to be one heck of a solar source.

    Which wires you switched for different rotation?

    • @gendronhvac-r1269
      @gendronhvac-r1269  Рік тому

      I address this at 4:30 in the video.
      But all you need to do is switch any of the line power. So for example you could go over to the contactor and just switch Any of the line power with another line power and it would change the rotation.
      So for example you can just take line one And switch it with the position of line too At the contactor And it will change the direction.
      In the video I did this at the motor
      Hope that helps :)
